I think this is the most underrated sushi in La Verne. It's located in the downtown area and often quiet so the service is so fast with a fabulous patio. Food was okay but service was HORRIBLE. The woman who owns the place got mad at me when I accidentally put no tip on the card reader. I clicked the wrong option totally on accident, and before I could ask her to possibly manually add one or go back she got so mad and went "ah ah ah! Where's my tip?! ". It's not mandatory to provide a tip either even though I planned on tipping because I always do so I felt worse. It was so rude ! She demanded a tip and made me feel awful. She yelled at me in front of other people too. I rushed to bank and came back to give her cash. And she switched up so fast and was super sweet to me. One of my favorite places to eat in La Verne, it's still really undiscovered by most in the area. It's a family run business that is really a mom and pop type of sushi restaurant, with the owners (who are married) running the day to day operations. The miso soup is the best I've ever had, with a very rich taste that makes you wanting more. My favorite plate is the Chirashi bowl, which I refer to as my usual when I visit. There are many other options available at an affordable price for both sushi and non sushi lovers. I highly recommend you visit and give Aoki a chance! read more

Aoki is tucked in Downtown La Verne. They have great lunch specials and get the food out quickly. I love to support my local small business and this is one of my favorites. Probably the saddest sushi rolls I've seen outside of a gas station. For sure not worth the $20 price tag for a lunch box. Wasabi had no bite and was watery, the ginger had no ginger flavor and the avocado tasted sour for some reason. As if some food additive was in it. The potato salad that came with it was the best part and that was 100% from a box. Never coming back to this spot. This place would make more sense as a drive thru with this level of quality... Update: I got to the salmon roll and threw the box out. It doesn't have a fish flour rather a tart flavor. Tart like lemon or something sour but crisp. Friday night (5/12/23) was my second time at Aoki. It's a small little quaint spot nestled in Downtown La Verne run by husband and wife. I wanted to introduce this hidden gem of a spot to my daughter who is also a foodie! We walked in at 8:30pm and the wife (sorry I didn't catch your name) reminded us they close at 9! We quickly ordered spicy garlic edamame, tuna sashimi, three amigo roll and volcano roll and shortly after our food was brought out! The sushi was super fresh and I'm not big on sashimi but my daughter kept insisting that I try it, so I did! It was like BUTTER! Smooth, clean and no fishy taste whatsoever! We love this place!!! The owners are two of the kindest people you've ever met. We found parking outside down the street which is fine because the area is so cute. We were there on a Saturday night which we imagined would be busy but the opposite was true. Empty! We wanted sushi and found this gem. There was no one inside. We sat at the bar. They had some nice music playing and the TV blasting. I asked if they could turn it off because the music was nice. They did. And hey, it's Saturday night, I'm enjoying some nigori sake, my husband is a hottie, so we decided to have a little party and started dancing right there. Miki ( the owner) moved some tables over and the four of us had a great time. Her husband makes the sushi. We had a wonderful time. My friend invited me to come eat at this place. I'm not a huge fanatic of sushi but I had to see this place since the outside is covered in succulents it's a cute mom and pop shop when we walked in we were greeted by I'm assuming the owner or the wife she sat us down we had the spicy garlic edamame for appetizer it was good nothing to complain about I had ordered the Aoki sushi roll with eel and avocado topped with eel sauce I enjoyed it. I cleared my plate my friend enjoyed her meal as well. I would say ambience is a 10/10. Food was a good 8.5/10 it was good! For service it was only the one lady and other than our table she was helping out 3 other tables she came over about 3 times: 1 to start our order, 2 to order the main entree,and one last time to ask if we wanted the check all in one and also to refill our water. She was nice BUT yes there's a but when my friend got up to pay the lady asked my friend if she had skipped the tip button my friend said yes and then the lady asked why? My friend said it was because she didn't have enough on her card my friend then felt obligated to give a tip and gave her a 10 since we were honestly a little taken aback the owner then went ahead and gave us back a 5 since a 10 would be too much. Our experience was good up until that last part where we just were puzzled I worked as a server at a restaurant for 3 years it was also a mom and pop shop but I never ever felt the need to ask someone to give me a tip I always appreciated it and that's why every time I go to a restaurant I tip but I always try my best to tip the actual person who gave us excellent service.
