    Baked salmon

The pictures online made this place look very appealing however it wasn't that. We arrived 2 hours past opening, the location was dead and the sushi bar wasn't stocked with fresh fish yet. When we sat down to order, it seemed like there were really only 2 people working the room. Only captured 2 photos and didn't finish it all. We ordered: Peppered Salmon- looked good, very smokey, was ok 3/5 Egg rolls- good Tempura veggies - good Japanese lasagna- the sauce on top wasn't good Baked salmon roll- eh Rainbow roll- was very messy and did not look appetizing. Only ate half of it bc I didn't want to seem rude. The fish wasn't fresh Las Vegas roll- poorly done, the sauce on top was drenching so the fried part was soggy, also didn't finish it All in all, was definitely not a fan of the sushi When another table came in for hibachi, they waited for awhile (probably bc the chef was making our sushi first) but came out and didn't talk much. Didn't put on an entertaining show, more soo cooked in silence to get the family their food. I was disappointed for them. Maybe they're better at night with more workers or a crowd, however we were not happy with our time there and will not be going back.

Thank you for always being so amazing with my seniors. Today is our last trip together with this community of seniors. I am moving to a new job and will miss our time at your wonderful restaurant. The food always fresh and well done. The attention you provided for my seniors was very much appreciated. We always loved the food and had a great time. Thank you.

Harry was our sushi chef. He was fast and very kind. The sushi wasn't as tasty as I had hoped (but to be fair I ordered vegan and there aren't many options only Avocado or cucumber roll and vegetable roll) the inari roll however, (which is made of sweet soybean paste) was made exceptionally by Happy. The hostess also made really great drinks, I had a lychee martini. They were both so kind.

So let the photos be self-explanatory that they're such bad pictures that I didn't have the patience to wait to eat the food. I like this place I will be returning to it from here forward customer service could step it up a little bit, but overall the food was amazing and I have no complaints.

I wanted to give Wabi Sabi a better review but it fell short for me. First off, I have to address the Chicken Fried Rice I ordered along with my New York Steak and Shrimp dinner, it was just plain fried rice. No other ingredients included. Just the fried rice. Has the recipe changed? The steak and shrimp were both delicious. Both flavorful and well seasoned. Cooked exactly as requested. The side of vegetables were a mixture of soggy and crisp. Caterpillar Roll, I've had fresher and better. Salad was "A" standard. No complaints. Delivery service was great. Food was delivered hot and well within expected delivery time. No contact delivery is offered. The price range is high considering the quality of food served.

The food is generally decent, but I don't go so much for the food, as I like the concept of a dinner and show for our celebration. So when my youngest had his 8th grade promotion, I found Shogun in La Verne that I made reservations for. I've been to the Pasadena location several times in the past so I am confident with their food and service. The La Verne location is in a big shopping plaza with plenty of parking. We arrived and were seated immediately. I guess our reservation time at 6:00 pm was early enough to avoid the crowds since there was hardly anyone there yet. FYI, there's a happy hour from 3:00 - 6:00 pm. Our server was great, he got us everything we needed and stopped by frequently to check on us. We each ordered a combo, and was so excited to see the "show". I don't know if our chef was new or what, but he was so soft spoken and not very enthusiastic about what he was doing. I couldn't hear anything he was saying and even the train whistle that he blew was so quiet. I clapped and cheered in the beginning to get him going, but he wasn't really engaging, so I was really disappointed. It was so boring. To top that off, our "yakisoba" that came with our meal was linguini noodles. Seriously? Can you get any less authentic? If Panda Express can get Chow Mein noodles in Alaska, you can get yakisoba noodles in SoCal.

Two years later, Kazama has become our go to sushi spot. My wife and I have been back more times than I can count and it's one of those places where we already know we're going to leave happy. The sushi is consistently fresh and delicious, the sauces are amazing, and the spicy garlic edamame is STILL one of my favorites. We've tried plenty of different rolls since that first visit and have found quite a few favorites along the way. The service has also continued to be friendly and welcoming every time we come in. We love the hole in the wall vibes this spot gives. I always think the best compliment you can give a restaurant is becoming a regular. We said we found our new favorite spot two years ago and Kazama has definitely earned that title. Still an easy 5 stars from us!

We thought it was an anomaly until yesterday when we had one of our favorites, the salmon skin hand roll and it came with salmon skin that was undercooked, not crispy. I saw that Yelp offers reservations and I booked a table for tomorrow for a celebratory dinner, with a memo asking if the teppan table was low enough for a wheelchair. I never received a response. I called to verify this question and they told me that there were no more teppan seats available. I couldn't understand what she was talking about, and I said I made a reservation online, and was told by here that I would have to sit at a regular table. WTF??? Apparently they have regular tables for you to order off the menu I think? And she never did answer my question if their teppan tables were wheelchair height. No apologies, just blamed Yelp for their reservation system and that I needed to make reservations weeks in advanced for a teppan table. This place needs to work with Yelp to figure out how to specify making reservations teppan vs. regular tables or just have people call and talk to a person to make reservations for a teppan table. Good thing I called otherwise I would've shown up for dinner tomorrow only to find out that I wouldn't have a seat at the table and disappoint my whole family. I ended up cancelling my reservation and making one at another teppan restaurant who did confirm they could accommodate a wheelchair.

We made a reservation here to celebrate my birthday and I enjoyed how spacious it was! It was nice…read morethat they also placed us in a more secluded room. We went ahead and ordered a variety of items as this was our first time here. Also honestly haven't had a teppan style meal since middle school haha. We got to order the Sashimi Adventure, several sushi rolls, the celebration style sets and just some of their specialty sets. It started off with salad, then miso soup, then sushi; however, the service was extremely slow... it seemed like there were only two teppan chefs in the restaurant, which there were already two big parties before us. We waited basically 45 mins until he was able to grill for us, and we were losing our patience lol. Salad, miso soup, and sushi were all pretty standard. Not terrible, but at least decently quality. Presentation were all pretty nice. As for the teppan grilling, I didn't catch his name, but he was pretty cool. He said his voice wasn't in the best shape that day, so tbh it was hard for me to understand him, especially since everything else was pretty loud haha. So we had all chicken fried rice, filet mignon, chicken, scallop, shrimps, zucchini, onion, and mushrooms. The chicken fried rice was pretty nice actually, he cooked it very well. Filet Mignon was kinda toooo meaty? mainly the quality of the meat. Chicken was pretty nice. The scallops were actually my favorite, it was a right amount of soft and chewy! The chef cooked everything pretty well, and the amount of items we ordered had us extremely full... One thing I would say though is that I believe there was a lot of MSG on all the items. It makes us extremelyyyy thirsty. Got back home and just kept feeling thirsty no matter how much water you drink lol. At the end, since celebrating birthday, they were nice to also prepare and sing for cake cutting. You can also get $30 off for celebrating your birthday here for signing up in their 'membership'. Gratuity already included for big parties. Overall, it was still a nice experience, however the service was just sooo slow. Probably they are understaffed? There wasn't that many people dining here besides us and the two parties, so there were still plenty of empty dining tables and teppan stations. The food here is better than benihana, but makes you feel soooo thirsty. It's not as theatrical as benihana I would say, but the food quality makes up for it a bit. Nice to try here once only.

During our visit, we went with the Chef's Recommendation menu and also added mentaiko buttered scallops. I love the interior of this place. The service was also impeccable. Braised Beef Tongue - Practically melts in your mouth Wagyu Carppacio - This dish had so many textures to it. You have the raw beef carpaccio, the salad with sauce on top adds flavor to it, and finally it has the Lays chips on top to give it some crunchy texture. Japanese Wagyu Sukiyaki - My favorite thing from this evening. They do such a great show of preparing this for you and you get a dipping plate with a raw egg to get all the flavors in this. The sukiyaki sauce in the bowl was super flavorful and strong. Wagyu Short Rib - This definitely tastes better using the spices they give for your meal. It's more on the lean side so it was very easy to eat iWagyu Prime Short Rib - This has a little bit more fat and on the chewier side when ate plain. But with the dipping spices, it definitely brings out the saltiness the meat needs Wagyu Bibimbap - The staff will mix this in front of you and make sure all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed so you can get a little bit of seaweed, wagyu, sauce, and rice in every bite. Of course by the time we got to this, we were way too full so I only got a few bites in before I had to call it and to-go the rest. Mentaiko Buttered Scallops - This was amazingly creamy. However I did make a mistake by adding this to the chef's recommendation. The Chef's Recommendation is curated where everything compliments each other. The mentaiko buttered scallops had their usual strong salty taste and super creamy due to the butter, but it was too strong when added to the Chef's Recommendation that I could barely eat it during the meal. Our next return, I will go with just the chef's recommendation to avoid messing up the balance. But the chef's recommendation was curated very well if you're not sure what to get!
