We have always loved eating at Apache Trout Grill. This visit was the first in several years. The building is lovely and the setting is amazing. We had a wonderful waitperson who was very attentive. The food was the problem. The ciabatta and pesto were disappointing because the pesto was rather tasteless. The bread was wonderful. My husband's dinner was the sea scallops with risotto. For $45 he was given FOUR scallops and a good helping of the risotto. Four??? For $45??? Sheesh. I had the whitefish with shrimp. The sauce was a bit odd. I would rather have had it without sauce, if I had known the sauce was so bland. The whitefish was superb. The risotto was very heavy. Did not like it at all. When we used to come, we would have the whitefish and a baked sweet potato (with maple syrup and pecans!) with side vegetable or ribs. There were no cooked baked potatoes on the menu, sadly. The worst thing was seeing a "surcharge" on our bill. What the heck? Our waiter told us that the surcharge was to cover the difference between the printed menu price of each dish and the actual price we should have been charged. Really???? As lovely as ATG is, we will not be returning. I understand that menus have to change due to changing tastes and younger clientele, but the changes we experienced were not for the better. read more

The waiters and waitresses here were awesome and always had drinks supplied for us but it was a little pricey which is understandable. My black napkin was dirty with food debris. We are still waiting for food after being seated for 10 minutes. Yelp rates this restaurant with $$$ the restaurant claims the are $$. It tasted like a flat tire. Be prepared for your ketchup to come out when the checks are delivered. Our waiter, Trey had more attitude than James Charles. Cant believe this is a real restaurant. She fit right in with our group! Lots of food. Surf and turf is what I had and the prime rib was cooked to perfection for me. My lobster and butter were not hot but it was still great. One in our party had Scallops and they were huge. Bruschetta was 3 pieces and they were huge too. Drinks were very good as well. Reasonable prices for a really great dinner. We each had a glass of wine, and ordered the bruschetta, which is the best that we had ever tasted. Carol ordered the bourbon glazed chicken salad and I ordered the French Dip. Excellent customer service and amazing seafood options! This restaurant does not take reservations but the staff made it easy for our group of 10. We visited on a Saturday for dinner so I knew it was going to be difficult to get a table so I called them months in advance in order to find out what we can do. The staff over the phone advised me to call them ahead of time (4:30pm same day if I would like to be seated around 5:15 to 5:30pm) to get ourselves on the wait list, which is what I did. By 5:15pm that day, our table was ready. It was perfect timing for us! The restaurant was bustling but the waitress was calm and checked up on us multiple times. We ordered the walleye and seared scallops and both were delicious. The prices are on the higher end but normal for seafood in a classy restaurant in my opinion. Parking was pretty difficult. We had to park across the street because the parking lot was completely full. Not a big deal but definitely need to allocate some extra time for that next time! We loved our experience. You put your name in and then can go hang out at the Tiki bar outside for your table. The amazing view of dozens of sailing boats hanging out off shore in Lake Michigan, is so serene, you really don't mind waiting. Then we went in for dinner, the vibe inside is really nice, they have multiple sections on slightly higher levels, so everyone has a good view of the lake. We started with the smoked whitefish dip, it was the best we've ever had. The consistency was perfect, the flavor was rich, Smokey and the naan dippers were a big hit. Our main course choices were the haddock, the trout and the seafood pasta. We were all happy with our choices. It tasted so fresh and delicately seasoned. We tried each other's food and each one was uniquely seasoned. Our server was Monet, she was really good, I would recommend asking for her by name! I'm not one to leave reviews but this experience was not an enjoyable one. I will preface the service was very good but man the food was not... The fried calamari was not crispy and pretty bland. The salmon was dry and the sauce was there to cover up the dryness it seemed. The shrimp and scallop Alfredo was "kinda gross" verbatim from my girlfriend. We were hoping to dine al fresco on the waterfront. Because of low staffing that day they were only serving drinks outside. We dined inside, we had Sprouts, Western BBQ Shrimp, and Rainbow Trout. All the portions were very generous.The Sprouts were tasty, so were the Shrimp. The Trout was delicious! The only problem was the Tarragon Butter Sauce made it mushy, that was great for the bed of Wild Rice but not for the fish which was suppose to be the highlight of the dish. My family and I used to frequent Apache Trout Grill when I was much younger. It was a favorite of theirs even 20+ years ago. We hadn't been in a while, so we went for dinner recently. We were able to put our names on the wait list prior to arriving, and luckily, there was a table available when we arrived! Everything was fantastic. They clearly consider every detail and make dining an experience. The bread with their balsamic pesto is to die for! I could have drunk the pesto from the plate if it was appropriate to do so. The calamari was crispy and fresh. The lobster bisque was truly some of the best I've ever had. I wish there was less potato and more seafood, but doesn't everyone? The soup was phenomenal. My mom and I shared the scallops and salmon. The scallops were perfectly seared and the risotto was rich and creamy. The salmon was great, but I do wish it had stronger jalapeño and honey flavors. The green beans as the vegetable were delish! Wild rice is... wild rice. For wild rice, it was good haha. My dad loved his halibut! We couldn't leave without some key lime pie and carrot cake. While you wait for your food, Apache Trout Grill also brings out freshly baked bread with a balsamic + pesto dipping oil that is so good I want to drink it! I ate here about 14 months ago. The portions were generous and the food was delicious. Last night I ordered takeout consisting of one whitefish sandwich and one seafood roll. We tried calling several times but according to other reviews they just won't answer the phone. 14 months ago I had the whitefish sandwich and the size of the fish was way bigger than the roll. The breading was slight in comparison to the fullness of the delicious fish. Last night when we got home with our order, I couldn't believe how bad things had changed. They forgot to give us tartar sauce (last year I remember the sauce was delicious). Of course I called them and of course they didn't answer. I did leave a message for Victoria, the GM but she did not return the call. The worst part of this very expensive sandwich was that it was a piece of fried batter with very little fish that you couldn't even see until you opened the bun. And it tasted worse than it looked. I understand the economy is challenged but I would rather pay more money (although it is currently not inexpensive), than feel like a victim of robbery. What a waste of money. Better off buying a filet of fish at McDonald's which costs less money and you'll get way more fish that you can actually taste, and not just fried bread crumbs. read more
