What better way to end the most amazing girls trip with the most amazing bagels? We spent the weekend commenting on the crowd inside Apollo but my friends told me it was surprisingly empty when they went on Sunday morning. That's right, I didn't even have to get out of the hotel bed for these bagels (which were insane by the way). Shout out to girlhood for real. EVERYTHING BAGEL WITH BUTTER AND JAM: 5/5. "Ew, mixing savory and sweet?" Look, if you're not evolved, just say that because this was perfection. When you're using so few ingredients, they better be damn good, and damn good they were. SESAME BAGEL WITH TOMATO AND CREAM CHEESE: 5/5. Such a classic combination. A GOOD ripe, juicy tomato with tart, velvety cream cheese and a sprinkle of S&P will do it for me every single time. Unfortunately, California bagels are and have historically been greatly disappointing, but the desperation that I've been left with after having Apollo's has me trying bagels (and making my own jam) out in the west again.
This was my first bagel of the New York trip, and I'll admit I was skeptical. As someone from LA, I always wondered if NY bagels were really thaaatt different from bagels everywhere else or if the hype was just.... hype. (I still need to try Courage and Layla !!) We came on a Saturday around noon and there was already a pretty long line. It took about 20 minutes to order, and luckily we managed to find a table as someone left when we just finished ordering. We ordered the smoked salmon bagel with scallion cream cheese, and I can definitely see why people love this place now. The bagel had a very crispy exterior with a chewy interior, and the scallion cream cheese was perfect with it. It added just enough flavor without taking away from the salmon. The salmon itself was fresh and generously portioned. My only complaint is that the bagel was oily and greasy. It felt like they drizzled extra olive oil or something?? It was so rich that I couldn't even finish half of it, and I definitely think it needs a coffee alongside it to balance out. Overall, I enjoyed it and I'm glad I tried it. Would I come back? Yes. Would I be the one suggesting it? Probably not. But if a friend wanted to go, I'd happily join!!
My friend and I both ordered the smoked salmon bagels on a sesame and everything bagel. As a heads up, the bagels here are sourdough-based and toasted. I love how this place doesn't smear too much cream cheese on the bagels to allow the chance for the lox, capers, dill, and red onions to shine. The flavor was bright and refreshing, and remains my top bagel spot for a reason! The service was fast given this place has been expanding a lot lately. There's a chance to snag an open table with a little bit of time but the ambiance isn't as chaotic as you may think.
Visited this place while in NYC and I dream about it every day! Food: I got the Smoked Salmon on the everything bagel and all of the flavors on the bagel just fit perfectly! I also loved the tanginess of it all. They were pretty generous with the smoked salmon, I loved it. Service: Staff was kind and quick! Ambiance: Lots of seating inside and it was pretty clean and spacious. Overall coming back when I'm back in NYC!
The best bagels I've ever had! Workers are always so nice, and they're fast. Bagels are fresh and hot. The sourdough makes such a huge difference - the combination of the crust + soft pillowy inside that has the perfect bagel chew while still being airy is phenom!! HOT TIP: My go to order is the Tomato bagel but substitute the cream cheese to their scallion cream cheese Don't forget to get their orange juice - elite combo!
Weeks later I'm still salivating. This bagel was incredible. I had a craving for lox and Apollo fulfilled it and then some. Their smoked salmon bagel is perfection. The bagel is a bit crunchier than I typically like it but the flavors came together so well and it was absolutely delicious. The lines can get long so come early! There are two lines - one for ordering and another for picking up food. It didn't strike me as a dine-in place, would recommend picking up and eating elsewhere. The place isn't too big. Classic NYC spot! Next time I want to get the scallion cream cheese too.
People always talk about NY bagels and I always raise an eyebrow and think "How good could they actually be?" Well, turns out, they can be really, really good. FLAVOR (5/5): 1. EVERYTHING BAGEL WITH SMOKED SALMON, CREAM CHEESE, CAPERS, RED ONION, DILL (vegan): I got this vegan because I'm lactose intolerant and wow this was still delicious. The texture of the bagel is a big part of what makes this a top-tier bagel; it's crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside, so you just get this beautiful-sounding bite right when you dive in. And the combination of toppings really elevate it. The dill brightens up the smoked salmon (and I think they put some sort of lemon/oil on top as well?) and... wow. I'm already craving it again. SERVICE (5/5): Service was quick, efficient, and great. TAKEAWAYS: Admittedly, I'm no bagel connoisseur, and my bagel experience is quite limited, but this bagel was out of this world. I heard from friends that I need to try the tomato one (there's debate on whether or not the tomato beats the smoked salmon)! I guess I'll have to buy another ticket out to NY.
SERVICE: counter service, quick. Many cooks in the back, so not too long of a wait. AMBIANCE: lots of seating, tables were a bit crumby but I think as adults we should be considerate and clean after ourselves Restroom: one restroom and it's a black door that doesn't have a sign PARKING: scarce, street FOOD: 10/10 only had the salmon bagel but OMG, amazing. I don't like smoked salmon and this didn't give off that smokiness I hate. Plain Bagel was a perfect softness and chewiness.
I actually really liked this bagel! I fell into the tik tok type so I decided to try this place out. The line was not long and service was pretty fast. However, they did forget our order and we had to remind them. Aside from that, I thought that the salmon was very fresh, a good amount of cream cheese and toppings. I would definitely want to come back again!
I stopped by on the way to go on Staten Island ferry and it was worth the detour. Despite the small menu, the quality of the food made up for it since the bagel was crispy and makes bagels from Panera Bread look pale in comparison. I had the smoked salmon bagel, but I will try the whitefish bagel the next time I'm in NYC.
Must-Have NYC Bagels Alert! You absolutely HAVE to try Apollo Bagels! They are known for their naturally fermented, boiled technique, these beauties are made fresh every morning, resulting in that perfect super crusty exterior and wonderfully airy texture. This is it. Pure bagel perfection. Limited varieties of bagels and limited preparations, but simply amazing! Everything Bagel w/ Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese, Caper, Red Onion, Dill: Oh the times I've paid 2-3x more than this for a disappointing brunch bagel. Everything here was just right. The bagel had a nice chew and a good crusty exterior with lots of great everything spices. The cream cheese seemed high end, not that gray block from the grocery store. The salmon was perfectly pink, none of those fishy dark meat areas. And the veggies could pass for some bougie California farmers market freshness with some seriously delicious onion slices and dill. BEST BAGEL I had on my trip. I ordered the Tomato on an everything bagel. So simple, yet sooo delicious. The bagel was fresh, soft, and flavorful, and both sides of the bagel were perfectly crispy and seasoned. I wish I hadn't waited until my last morning to try it, otherwise I would've stopped by each morning on my trip. I went early on a Sunday and there was a line, but it moved very fast and the wait was minimal. Will definitely be back on my next visit! read more
Apollo Bagels definitely deserves the hype for providing one of the best New York bagel you can get! Ambiance was simple and neat as the restaurant seems to be a grab and go service. It's a very cool place! The store is minimalistic but spacious and easy to navigate. There was a line during the week lunch hour, but it moved quickly. I ordered the viral tomato bagel ($7) on an everything bagel and it was good! It's really refreshing, flavorful, and the perfect light lunch. Service was notably pleasant. Simple but fancy (?) bagel place in FiDi. Stopped by on a Saturday morning and there was a long line so took about 20 mins to get our bagels. Tried the smoked salmon sandwich with sesame seed bagels but skipped the red onion for obvious reasons. Bagels were pretty quick to come out. Delicious along with the fresh squeezed OJ. Not quite the NYC bagel I was expecting but still very good. Small tables as well as bar stools along the side for eat in. Good way to start the day! read more

Apollo Bagels has been quite hyped up to me, but I hadn't gotten the chance to try it until they opened their new location! I had originally tried to go on a weekend, but the line was pretty long (basically all the way back to the door). I chose to wait until a weekday to give it a shot, and luckily, when I went, there was no line! Smoked salmon sandwich - very solid, salmon was good quality and flavors all melded together nicely. It was a bit on the oily side, so I think they may add some olive oil to the sandwich as well Everything bagel - good, really liked the seasoning and texture of the bagel. Less sweet than other bagels in the area, outside was also crunchier than other bagel shops nearby. Scallion Cream Cheese - one of the better scallion CCs I've had Friendly service, and since I hit the timing well, received my food fresh and quickly! Not sure I'd ever wait in a long line for it, but it made for a delicious weekday lunch. read more
Listed as one of the top 10 bagels in the city, so I had to verify. Came in on a Monday morning at 845a, and the line wasn't too crazy. Crispy on the outside, but light on the inside! I really enjoyed the everything bagel w/ smoked salmon, and all the fixings. Also had to pair it with the fresh squeezed OJ. As for aesthetics, it's very industrial and clean. Searing along one wall, meant for groups of 2-3 max. Definitely worth a try. read more
Excited to have new bagel stop in the neighborhood. Got both Smoked Salmon and Whitefish Salad on everything bagel to try. Things I love: *Open face - earlier to eat for me. *Seasoning all over - crunchy seed texture. *Crunchy shells *Flavor - I especially enjoyed the whitefish salad more, I think the balance was great and more complex. Things that might not work for you: *They are relatively small, they might be the smallest/thinnest bagel I've got in NYC aside from the mini bagel from Russ & Daughters, yet still $15! *The whitefish and smoked salmon are a thin layer compare to any other places, I am not a lox bagel fan so it doesn't matter but if you expect your lox to be lox, uhmmm. *I also find the Smoked Salmon one sorta basic compares to Whitefish salad. Space is insanity huge! I will come back to try the tomato one think that sounds like a good one as well. read more

Can't believe it took me this long to try Apollo Bagels! I placed an order for pickup on a Friday morning and was relieved I ordered in advance because the line was out the door when I arrived. I am usually not the biggest fan of raw tomatoes, but I wanted to try their tomato bagel since it is so popular. Turns out it is an amazing pairing. The tomato was fresh and sweet, and the warm chewy bagel brought everything together. I will definitely be back to try more. read more

Love, love, love!!! 100% worth the hype. I wouldn't call myself a big bagel fan, and I usually don't go for sourdough... but these were something else. On my first visit, I ordered the tomato bagel on sesame, and it was amazing. I loved it so much that I went back the next day to try the lox bagel, which was even better! I can't wait to come back here on my next NYC trip. read more

Yum, solid lox bagel with fresh salmon and crisp dill. Also tried the white fish bagel and while the salmon was better, it was pleasantly refreshing especially with the cucumbers. Can't wait to try their tomato bagel. There's typically long lines that move decently fast. read more

I was really happy to eat a few bagels in NYC that were unique and tasty. Typically, I'm a cream cheese, lox, or breakfast sandwich girl. I wasn't sure if the Whitefish Salad (pickled peppers, mustard, and cucumbers) would be too briny for me, but it was one of my tastiest bites. The fish salad was spread lightly and topped with thin and crispy Persian cucumber slices and lots of dill. The Tomato was a surprise hit. Two thin tomato slices, olive oil and black pepper on a thin layer of cream cheese actually tasted very meaty. The bagels (everything and sesame) were sliced and toasted. The exterior was crispy while the inside was a little fluffy. read more

Apollo Bagels blew me out of the water, I am by no means a huge bagel fanatic but this was single-handedly the best bite I had throughout my entire Manhattan food crawl weekend trip! I kept seeing people talking about Apollo Bagels online but thought how good could it really be... it's just a bagel... and man o man was I so dead wrong I don't even like lox or tomatoes, in fact I HATE tomatoes and will avoid them at all cost, however something made me try both their lox and tomato bagels and I am so glad I did, I will be dreaming of these bagels forever (or until I book another trip solely to get my hands on them again) read more

This bagel place deserves all the hype they get online and was probably the best New York bagel I've tried. We came around 9 am on a Monday and there was thankfully no line. The wait was also not long and there was plenty of seating with a lot of small circle tables and some booth seating. We got the lox on everything and a tomato on everything and both were not to disappoint. My friend and I are not exactly salmon on bagel lovers but this changed our minds completely. Also my friend usually avoids tomatoes at all costs but she even finished this one. The bagels are perfectly crunchy with a non overwhelming amount of cream cheese. They also top these off with some olive oil which compliments it well. read more

Stopped by Apollo Bagel near the Financial District on a Friday morning and there was no line at all and super quick service, which was a nice surprise. I tried the smoked salmon bagel and while the fish itself was flavorful, it wasn't anything too special. What really stood out was the bagel itself--fresh, chewy, and delicious. Overall, a solid spot if you're in the area and want something quick and satisfying. Highly recommend having this as a snack on the walk to the statue of Liberty tour (if you're doing touristy stuff of course) read more

Found this spot on TikTok and had to check it out -- totally lived up to the hype. I got the whitefish salad on a sesame bagel and it was amazing. My friend got the lox bagel which she said was one of the best she's ever had. The bagel was crispy on the outside, super soft on the inside, and loaded with flavor. The whitefish and cucumbers on top were so fresh and balanced everything perfectly. Yeah, the line was long, but honestly so worth the wait. I loved it so much I went back twice during my 4-day trip. No notes!! After the sign went up, I've been stalking Apollo Bagels's Instagram to find out when they were opening. Quickly stopped by for lunch when I saw they were open today! I had the Whitefish Salad on an Everything Bagel, and it was delicious!! The bagel was nice and chewy, whitefish was tangy, and the cucumber was the perfect bit of freshness and crunch. This location is also HUGE! I had been to the EV location previously, and there is sooo much more seating here! Tables and chairs along each wall with additional seating outside. Would totally make the trek out here just for the convenience factor (and no line)!! read more

The bagel itself was perfectly crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and had just the right amount of cream cheese to balance everything out. The smoked salmon was super fresh and flavorful, and the whole thing just hit the spot. The portions are generous, so I'd definitely recommend splitting one unless you're really hungry. read more
Amazing bagel combo. If you come here, go all in and try their everything bagel with salmon lox, cream cheese, dill, capers, and red onions. Whoever though of putting olive oil, lemon, and fresh cracked black pepper on top is a genius. We did 3 bagels spots in NY and this was by FAR the best. And to only serve one type of cream cheese and two types of bagel AND STILL out beat other places is AMAZING. The bagel texture is sooooo yummy and crispy. I got cream cheese, tomato, and cucumber and the only seasoning my they did was black pepper and salt and I was blown away. Even the orange juice they squeeze right in front of you. 110% recommend everyone to come to this place when in town. Seating is a little limited so prepare to take it to go! read more

Many new bagel places down here. I loved this one because: served in a box with slices facing up, it's much easier to eat, and the filling won't squish outside. I had an everything bagel cream cheese with tomato slice, it was sprinkled with olive oil and seasoned salt, a very pleasant finish. Only 3 bagels (plain, sesame, everything) with a few toppings to choose from so it's pretty simple. read more
Probably the best open-faced bagel sandwich I had during my time in NYC. The presentation is amazing with the dill, onion, and capers spread out on the bagel. The amount of cream cheese and fish was just right and the flavors just blended so well. I have no notes, this was a perfect bagel all around. read more

Nicely toasted bagels with a satisfying crunch that went perfectly with the lox sandwich. Line went out the door at a 10 AM on a Saturday but moved quickly. A bit tougher grabbing a table, but those moved quickly too. read more

This place is worth the hype. We went back a second time during our weekend trip because we enjoyed the food so much. We got the smoked salmon bagel and it was probably the best bagel I've had in NYC. Toasted edges, soft in the middle, with well balanced flavors, what's not to love? There is a bunch of little tables for seating indoors and outdoors. The seating is more ideal for smaller groups (2-3) larger groups may have a bit of trouble finding seating but we were fine. Everyone was super friendly and helpful and service was relatively quick. There was a line both times, but it moved pretty quickly. We also tried the fresh ginger lemonade which had a nice kick from the ginger and the fresh orange juice which was also refreshing. My friend also tried the coffee and said it was good. All in all, try this if you're in the area! read more
