Just had the most bizarre experience here. My sister and I walk in and there's a sign that says please seat yourself so we do just that - found a clean booth and sat. Place is dead. I'm assuming the manager or owner says loudly, rudely to the closest waitress "I guess you'll take this table since they sat themselves" the waitress looks at us and smiles uncomfortably. So I said "Oh the sign says seat yourself so that's what we did?" Trying to see what the problem was the manager says back "good for you" in a rude tone. Super bizarre experience I'm guessing the woman was planning on closing early. Definitely wouldn't give this place my time or money since it appears they want no one in there. Not only the staff is so rude. I called to ask if they have shrimp and ordered a Large Greek salad with shrimp. When I come to pick up my order my salad wasn't made and the waitress blamed me for not picking up my phone. One no one called, two no one has left a message. Not only to mention next time when I ordered Large Greek salad with shrimp, but shrimps also looked like there were picked from someone else customer who didn't eat them. Shrimp were covered with mustard and something else. I am afraid I didn't pay attention and ate some of them and when I picked shrimp I looked at them and almost throw up! What the heck! It's covid and if the restaurant does this is not only unacceptable to do that plus it's pandemic! What if the person who had the shrimps had covid! Ewww I will not leave this like that I will make phone calls! I do not recommend eating or ordering anything unless you wanna eat leftovers from other costumers!!!! read more

Really great marinated chicken and Greek dressing! This is worth the extra cost! Frozen veggies as a side, not so great. They charge for a lot of little extras, such as more dressing, chopping a salad, or chicken on the side, etc. Also they will not allow kids meals for carry-out. Not so convenient. Apovini Grill tries to be the Capital Grille of Coney Island Restaurants, but that is impossible, and they try to hide their efforts by leaving out the E in "Grille." They even try to hide the fact that it is a Coney Island Restaurant by not including "Coney Island" in their name. If they want to be the Capital Grille of any style of restaurant, the first step is to offer better service and disclose the extra money that they charge for everything. Our bill was $55 for the five of us for brunch, not including tip, which seemed like a lot considering that the food was identical to what you could get at a Leo's Coney Island. $45 would have been more appropriate for the food that we ordered. Honestly, I wish we would have gone to Leo's because then we could have avoided this terrible dining experience and we would have got what we paid for-delicious food at a good value. It took a while for us to get our orders taken and at one point the waitress actually yelled, "No!" To one of the other waitresses who was seating some people in her section. The waitress had no etiquette as her boisterous "no" interrupted my buddy while he was giving her his order. Then she explained to us, "I'm sorry, that girl has no idea what she is doing." I ordered the Apovini Special, which came with three eggs any style, two strips of bacon, American fries, two sausage links, and some ham. The dish was pretty good-the eggs were perfectly scrambled and the bacon was crispy. My buddy ordered the same thing, but he ordered his eggs poached and they were awful. It took a long time for us to get refills on waters, pops, and coffee, and every time our waitress came to the table she seemed flustered and upset. It also took fifteen minutes for us to get our food, which was long considering there only five other tables with people seated at them. It took even longer for us to get our bill and when we finally got our bill, it was clear that nothing was included in the price of the dishes. My niece ordered lemon rice soup, which was $3, and her Coney dog was $3, and so were her fries. That's $9 for a meal that maybe costs $6 at a different Coney Island restaurant and what that tells me is that they serve everything a la carte. Who knew that a Coney Island restaurant would use the same standards for pricing food that you would find at a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse? The Coney dog and fries should have at least been included as a combo with a reduced price. The orange juice was $3 for eight ounces, which would have been fine, but I saw the Simply Orange bottle on the counter, which they probably purchased at Meijer that day. For $3, the orange juice should have been freshly squeezed. The bill was confusing too, it was handwritten with the main courses listed on the left and then random prices with no descriptions listed on the right. So, my buddy asked the waitress why it was $55 and she reviewed every item with him and it did in fact come to $55. To add insult to injury, she said to him, "I know. This place is a rip-off. Everything is over-priced." Save yourself the headache and go to Kirby's Coney Island down the street. They serve similar food, but at more reasonable prices, with better service, and you won't be shocked when your bill arrives. read more

I went here with a girlfriend for lunch during the week. This was my first time at this location. I ordered the grilled chicken pita and my friend ordered the grilled chicken salad. Both were very nice sizes. My pita was so fresh and delicious. My mouth is literally watering as I write this thinking about it. The staff was very attentive and courteous. The food came out quickly and was reasonably priced. And no one pressured us to leave or tried to rush us out when we ordered coffee after our meals and lingered while we caught up. It was a surprisingly nice experience. So much more than I would expect from a "Coney Grill." Will definitely be back again soon! :) read more

I will never be coming here again. The first issue was the food, my plain cheeseburger bun was so soggy it looked like a sponge. My father ordered a chicken sandwich which was so dry he had to use sauce even though he didn't want to. After we finished we got our bill and found out our food was 50 dollars! This food was the equivalent to what you would get at Coney so I don't understand how it was so much more expensive. 1/5 stars because at least the food came pretty quick. read more

Everything about my experience was an epic disappointment. We went for breakfast on a Sunday. When we walked in the place had a smell. There was one other table occupied. We were seated at a table that had something stuck on it. Like it had been wiped down with no effort. I ordered a coffee and it came in a mug that had 2 chips on it. Not cracks, 2 chunks of mug missing. I ordered an omelet with American cheese and mushrooms, American fries crispy and rye toast. My friend ordered oatmeal with bananas. The server asked if she'd like brown sugar and my friend said yes. When our food was brought to the table it was cold. It wasn't even room temperature. The cheese in my omelet was crunchy. I was given white toast covered in a yellow goo. It wasn't butter. I don't even think it was margarine. My friends oatmeal came with packets of sugar in the raw. How has this place lasted so long? Great salads. I love their marinated chicken that comes on the Aprovini salad. It's an upgraded coney island with great breakfast, greek pitas and salads. Reliable and consistently good food with reasonable prices. A great place for a quick lunch, even if you're eating alone. Be forewarned, it draws a strong lunch crowd from local businesses so it fills up, especially on a friday. Arriving before 12:00 or after 1:00 is recommended. read more

The salad is a great size, the House apovini dressing is amazing, such a awesome salad. The first 3 times I did not receive the pita with my salad even though it is stated on the menu it is included. I cannot speak to much of the other food here so my review is going to be extremely limited. I work nearby and get one thing...greek salad with marinated chicken. It is simply the best of the best. I think they mix the greek dressing with red wine vinegar giving it a pink appearance. Whatever is in it, the combination of flavors in this fresh delicious salad is simply fabulous. This place has your typical Greek-American coney joint/family diner menu. However, I will say the quality of the food is much better than the chain restaurants like National or Kerbys. It is clean inside and our waitress was very nice. It's a little pricier than the others, as some have reviewed, but you can taste the difference. I could taste every ingredient in the reuben, and the battered mushrooms tasted like mushrooms, not fryer oil. My wife had the "small" greek salad, which could feed two people, and the potato skins. She said both were very good as well. Try this place out if you're just looking for a good meal , it's worth the little bit extra! read more

Went for breakfast with the family yesterday. Food was very substandard, with extremely dry potatoes, poorly prepared omelette that was missing requested ingredients, and toast with one large clump of "butter" slopped the the middle of it. Pancakes were barely warm and were served with a big plastic bottle of watery Log Cabin syrup plunked down in front of the guest. Charming. The service was terrible with a waitress that was distracted, appeared sporadically, and never returned once food was served. Prices are higher than average for a coney style place, and they won't do substitutions! Orders were wrong when brought out as well! Floor and restrooms were extremely dirty. Yuck. We will never go back. Try the Maple Leaf instead on 15 Mile. The food is much better and the place is much cleaner and more pleasant all around. read more

The food (especially salads) are fantastic! For anyone complaining about cleanliness should look at how many police officers dine there. They work hand in hand with city health inspectors. My good friend is a police officer and told me that's how you know a place is clean (which of course - it is!). I go at least once a week (proximity to work) and highly recommend! I've been to Apovini a few of times and it's a standard decent diner place that works in a pinch. Burgers, fries, sandwiches, and the like are safe bets and they do a decent job at them. I would stay away from the pricier "Daily specials" and higher priced items as they don't normally turn out to be worth it and the quality is lacking. If you need a place to just eat then it can be a safe bet but I wouldn't go out of your way for sure to stop by. read more

I don't know where to start. The shredded lettuce "garnish" that is unnecessarily used under every appetizer is just plain disgusting. They use American cheese on their potato skins which leaves a waxy, filthy feeling in your mouth and tastes just plain nasty. Very over priced and not worth the $30 I paid. read more

I have been here before and it was "ok" but this visit was horrible. It was my 2 children... 6.5 and 10.5 as well as my mom. It was around 2:15 on a Sunday and we stopped in for a late lunch. There were maybe 6 other tables. After waiting a solid 5 mins to be served, we ordered a kids hamburger (plain), kids spaghetti, side salad, a regular cheeseburger and a western omelette. Drinks took a bit longer to get refilled but no biggie. When our orders arrived, the kids burger was the size of a small breakfast sausage patty and was gross to look at. The bowl of spaghetti literally had a teaspoon of marinara sauce, toast was burnt with just a tiny smear of butter and was cold. We sent the burger back as the waitress agreed that it didn't look appetizing. She brought us more sauce for spaghetti and we never mentioned the toast to her because we thought there would be butter on the table (which there was not). Did I mention we had to get up and find someone to get place settings for everyone? When the server came back she relayed from the cook (owner) that the burger we received is the kids portion in a tone like they were taken back that we dare question the size (or appearance). The server pulled some strings and put in a new regular size burger and said she would still charge us kid price. Cool! But she didn't leave fries and our kid was left staring at everyone eating. The regular cheeseburger was fine and the western omelette had barely any ingredients. When it came time for the bill and the famous question was asked "how was everything?" the server knew we had a poor experience. The total came to $33.45 and was hand written so it was near impossible to see how they got to that price. Needless to say we were not satisfied and this seemed like an inflated amount to pay for 2 kids meals, a burger and a subpar omelette. So she brought the manager over (who must also be an owner). She warned us that the kitchen seemed distracted as family was three picking up a large carry out. She came to our table annoyed that she was being bothered and was actually somewhat on the attack questioning each item we were unhappy with. We didn't come to lunch looking for a discount or a sucky experience. She told me sometimes this can happen and there's nothing she can do about the price. I couldn't believe it. A small $5-10 discount would've been plenty as a show of sympathy to our experience. They will never get our business again and I hope you take warning that their inadequate food is over priced and under portioned. And their people only care about their own. read more

I've been to Apovini several times, but today's experience really ticked me off. As other reviewers have mentioned, they have great salads and the grilled chicken they add is really tasty. Now what you'll pay for that "great salad" is another thing altogether. I called in for a SMALL Apovini salad with no dressing. When I picked it up, it was $11 and change. And that's without the $2.95 chopping fee (which is absurd)! I had to wonder how much a large salad would've cost! But, having been there before, I wasn't too surprised...that is, until I got back to my office and realized they'd given me the wrong salad. I was pretty irritated (if you pay 11 bucks for a salad, you want it to be the salad you ordered!). I was also far enough away that going back was debatable. When I called to tell them about their mistake, the woman who answered wasn't apologetic and didn't offer any kind of "make-good," like, "Sorry...when you come back, we'll take $2 off." She asked if I was far and I said, "Far enough." Then she says I can come back. I asked if it would be ready and she asks me what I'd ordered again. So basically, she was going to have me come all the way back and not have my salad ready?! So I said I'd be back and then changed my mind and called back to cancel the order. At least I had the courtesy to tell them I changed my mind, which is frankly, more than they deserved. I'm over them. read more
