Five stars for the service we received, five stars for the view of the surroundings, including the mountains, and five stars for the cabin-like vibe of the restaurant. Here is where my review is only one star: the food. The food left much to be desired. The chicken pot pie was mushy, unlike just about every other restaurant that serves chicken pot pie with chunks of chicken. The only decent thing was the crust. This pie filling resembled oatmeal. No exaggeration. My vegetable soup bowl was so small that I felt as though I had mistakenly ordered from the kids' menu. The bread used to complete the bowl was stale and did NOT taste like sourdough. I was genuinely disappointed. My +1 and I make the trip to Oak Glen about once a year, and we always stop at Apple Annie's restaurant. It's been a tradition. Last year we were pleasantly surprised by improvements to both the quality of food and the service, so I left a 5-star update. This time I had to drop it significantly, mostly on the service - though changes to the menu and the lack of apple pie didn't help. We stood in line for about 20 minutes before being seated. They asked if we were ok being seated indoors despite the weather being 70 degrees and more than half the patio being empty. We asked to sit outside and got a table completely in the sun. Oh well. We were greeted quickly enough and given refreshments while waiting for our orders. I asked for the fish and chips and my +1 ordered the chili and cornbread. We asked for an extra plate to share with our little one. Well, the food came out quickly, but not the extra plate...or even utensils. We had to flag down another server because ours was nowhere to be found. He came back long after we were finished, asking if we wanted drink refills (a little late) or dessert. When we asked about apple pie, he stuttered something about being out of a lot of desserts. We asked him to find out what they still had, and eventually we got a slice of apple cherry pie with ice cream, and the tab right next to it, because he said he had to go. The fish and chips was actually really good, with just the right amount of batter on the fish and perfectly crispy. It also came with a small cup of coleslaw that had chopped apple in it, which was really delicious. The chili was decent, and the cornbread tasted homemade, but we missed the bread bowl that was missing from the menu. The pie stood out and was incredible, though it was a shame the regular apple was sold out. My biggest complaint on the food was that the portions were small, and the prices keep rising. One of the only places you can eat at by the orchards. They have a bakery and a restaurant. The restaurant is super busy and on a Saturday during Apple season there was a huge line. On Saturdays exactly at 11 they stop serving breakfast and only offer lunch. Not a ton of options to choose from. The service was mid -- not friendly at all. The food was also okay -- wouldn't choose to go again. The pies are pretty pricey and I've also had better. For the experience, it's a cool day trip to take from LA though after Apple picking. We stopped at Apple Annie's for a late lunch after a day of Apple picking. We were only second in line and waited for what seemed like a long time. After not being acknowledged we walked in and stood inside so someone could see us waiting for a table. They seemed busy for a Monday at 3pm, but we were finally able to get sat. I can only imagine how it is on the weekends. Service was ok, could have been better. Food prices were pretty high but I guess since it's located in a touristy area. Apple Annie's was one of the only places open on a rainy weekday so we stopped here for a quick lunch. It was so busy as again, one of the only places open. Their menu is huge, so are their portions. The restaurant was cozy but not exceptional, nominally clean but carrying the well-trodden appearance of a location frequented by a constant influx and efflux of hungry inpatient customers. The bathrooms were particularly poor, in need of cleaning, and additional soap refills. A twice-daily clean and restock for a busy weekend is crucially in need here. The food was surprisingly good despite the reputation. I got the beef dip which was superbly spiced and savory ($21) with excellent French fries which were crusp and well seasoned. The hot apple pie a la mode ($13.50) was generous and delectable, and the perfect finish for the meal. Our waitress was quite friendly and attentive, taking good care of us with a fast turnaround. Prices were a little high, but this is perhaps expected for such a touristy area. Apple Annie's is a classic location in Oak Glen. We came here for their world famous apple pie. It's huge! It also comes with their apple pie sauce in a small cute jar so you can pour it over your apple pie. It was definitely fun eating this pie. It took us several days and this is after we split it in half with our friends. The pie itself is your typical pie. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary but it was a fun treat to eat! I was Definitely looking for a chicken pot pie and found one!! It was homemade and maybe not like the one from the yard house but it really hit thr spot. This was my first time here and it was a nice little stop on our way back home. OK. So this restaurant is extremely popular. Part of me wonders why. When I came, it was super packed. The weight wasn't entirely too long, but there needs to be somebody out there with a line kind of wrapped around the building to let people know which is the line for the Bakery, which is the line for the restaurant. One thing that I did not like about the seating situation for the restaurant is that when I got to the host, stand, there was nobody there. I feel like they should always be one person there to help to regulate the line to guide people. But also, because there was only one person at the host stand, when they returned from wherever it is that they had gone, they snapped and yelled, and not only me and other people in my party, but also the party in front of me and the party in back of me. I can understand that maybe they were flustered and very overwhelmed by the number of people wanting to be seated at the restaurant. However, the restaurant should know that if they are a novice or cannot handle pressure like that, they should not be the ones to work that line in to see people. That was definitely something that made my dying experience. Begin with a very sour taste in my mouth. The menu is very limited. They have maybe three different kinds of burgers and another one or two different types of sandwiches. They don't have an extensive menu, but I think that's all that they can really handle. Their breakfast menu actually looks pretty good. French fries and things are overdone and super hard and crispy here. They also were a little overly salted. My burger, however, I will admit was very good. The meat patty was very meaty and not extra fatty. And it literally comes dressed the way that it says it will. Nothing extra. One of the people in my party ordered fish and chips and actually was very hesitant in doing so. The thing that they wanted to know was what type of tartar sauce it is that they used. So, they asked to try a small sample of the tartar sauce before ordering their fish and chips. What the waitress brought out was not tartar sauce. It was mayonnaise. And then it was ranch. I understand tartar sauce is white, but you need to get your sauces right. After getting mayonnaise and ranch a few more times, we asked another server to bring out tartar sauce. She kind of rolled her eyes and licked us and discussed, but hey, we wanted to know what we were dealing with. Luckily the person in our group who wanted to try the tartar sauce, was content with what it is that they were serving because just a few moments later a platter Fish and chips came out. We kept thinking to ourselves, and chatting amongst ourselves about what if they didn't like the tartar sauce, what if they didn't want to order fish and chips anymore?!?! They would've had to take that whole order back because of a misunderstanding. From what we could tell most of the employees here are young kids. There might've been one or two adults were a bit older, but most of them look like this is their weekend job. There are a lot of little things that bothered us but again, we figured that we couldn't have such high standards. Prices are decent. There's nothing to outrageously expensive. The outdoor seating is perfect for kids or large parties, with a nice open atmosphere that feels much more fun than the inside seating (which doesn't have much to look at). I am not sure why the reviews are so poor here and what most people were expecting. Maybe the price is a bit high? We had a great experience though, and our food was good (especially for being nestled a mile-high in the hills of Oak Glen). They have your typical American food, such as burgers, soups, salads, sandwiches, fried chicken, fish and chips and potpie. We ordered the kid's grilled cheese ($9.85) which came with seasoned fries. The kid's meal was surprisingly large. I also ordered the Annie's Famous Chicken Pot Pie ($19.85), and the pot pie was a standout -- the crust was baked right onto the plate, perfectly crispy and so satisfying. We also got the Moutain BBQ Burger ($21.95) which was also a good portion and came with seasoned french fries, which was said to also be good. They also sell a super large apple pie at their bakery that looked amazing, but we were way too stuffed from lunch to try it this time. We had no lines when we were seated and was able to pick whatever table that we liked. The service was great, and the food came out quickly. Since it's located within Oak Tree Mountain, there's plenty for families to do after eating -- from strolling around to enjoying the outdoor activities. The vibe is a small town feel, rustic, and family oriented. The first time I was here around 9:00am (no line) and ordered an Old Fashioned Apple Pie ($24.85) and some brownies with walnuts. The person helping me seemed rushed and wasn't too friendly when I asked a couple questions and told her it was my first time here. My total came out to $34.70. The following weekend, I came here with my mom. This time we got friendly customer service and ordered a whole French Crumb Apple pie ($24.85) and a giant cookie for my husband. My total came out to $35.97. I gave some slices of pie for my mom to take home. The pie this time around was not good. The slices of apple inside were large and hard, the crust was super dry and the pie overall was not flavorful. I followed up with my mom to see how she liked it and unfortunately her feedback was it was very dry as well. She said she still had an apple pie craving and went to Marie Callender's for one. Strangely, the food arrived only 10 minutes after ordering, which felt rushed and suspicious. We ordered the French Dip and the chicken with seasonal vegetables (more on that in a moment). The food was disappointing the chicken was dry and flavorless, and the "seasonal vegetables" turned out to be plain steamed broccoli. The coleslaw came in a tiny sauce cup and looked more like a garnish than a side. For the price they charged ($25), the quality simply wasn't there. Service was practically nonexistent after our food arrived. We were completely ignored and had to track down staff just to ask for basic things like condiments. To make matters worse, wasps constantly hovered around our table, making it impossible to enjoy the meal. When we finally decided to leave we asked for the check and waited another 15 minutes. We asked a staff member who told us, "That's not my table," and offered no help. Another staff member gave the same response. Eventually, one of us had to go into the kitchen to find our server just so we could pay and leave. Overall, this place was a complete letdown. Between the poor service, mediocre food, and constant wasps, it was easily the worst dining experience of our trip. The fries were decent, I guess, but that's about the only positive thing I can say.
