We are looking for a quant get away for Thanksgiving and this popped up in our search. We went this past Saturday. It's about 90 mins from Santa Monica so we left early. Despite the heavy down pouring rain and avoiding 5 major car accidents and one bridge wash out we made it safe! It was a lovely country kitchen nestled in the San Bernardino mountains at elevation. It is part of Oak Mountain Park, a craft and activity enclave. Because of the rain only the bakery and kitchen were open. Hi dry and ready to audit their food for the big day... we got started. Our waitress was awesome and greeted us with her country small town warmth. We ordered a chicken pot pie, house chopped salad and the fried chicken dinner plate. Decent food with large portions but expect a long wait time especially around lunch time on the weekends. They were unfortunately all out of their famous chicken pot pie but we got a cheeseburger and the kids chicken tenders to split along with a slice of apple pie. The location is beautiful and the restaurant is super cute. We sat outside on the covered deck over looking gorgeous views of the mountains. Only downside to that were a lot of yellow jackets flying around and harassing people while they were eating. I ordered the roast beef dip, my boyfriend ordered the pulled pork sandwich. Both came out freshly made. They both were tasty and reasonably portioned. The freshly made apple cider was good and refreshing. Servers were all very nice and efficient. It's a popular spot so there was quite a bit of wait for our food to come out which certainly wasn't the server's fault or anyone's actually. There are two lines - one for in-person dining and another for the to-go bakery! The to-go line went pretty quick: we stopped by for a slice of apple pie. It was absolutely delicious - loads of apple, not too sweat. I only wish there were more crust. But sad that we didn't get an entire pie. Came here for breakfast with my large family (15). The restaurant wasn't busy and we were seated quickly. The waitress was patience with us being a large party with plenty of kids. We were excited to visit Apple Annie's, but it turned out to be the biggest mistake of our entire trip. We waited 45 minutes just to be seated, and once at our table, it took another 20 minutes before anyone came to take our order. Strangely, the food arrived only 10 minutes after ordering, which felt rushed and suspicious. We ordered the French Dip and the chicken with seasonal vegetables (more on that in a moment). The food was disappointing the chicken was dry and flavorless, and the "seasonal vegetables" turned out to be plain steamed broccoli. The coleslaw came in a tiny sauce cup and looked more like a garnish than a side. For the price they charged ($25), the quality simply wasn't there. Service was practically nonexistent after our food arrived. We were completely ignored and had to track down staff just to ask for basic things like condiments. To make matters worse, wasps constantly hovered around our table, making it impossible to enjoy the meal. When we finally decided to leave we asked for the check and waited another 15 minutes. We asked a staff member who told us, "That's not my table," and offered no help. Another staff member gave the same response. Eventually, one of us had to go into the kitchen to find our server just so we could pay and leave. Overall, this place was a complete letdown. Between the poor service, mediocre food, and constant wasps, it was easily the worst dining experience of our trip. The fries were decent, I guess, but that's about the only positive thing I can say. We don't normally come to this area, but after a work trip we decided to give it a try! This place was literally on a mountain (halfway) and there was plenty of parking left the day we went. However it was also a rainy weekday. On the plus side, there was no line! We got seated right away and the workers came to take our orders very quickly. Fried chicken- Hands down- one of the best fried chickens we had! Their chicken was crispy on the outside and tender in the inside. The chicken inside was also sooo flavorful (with a sweet kick to it). They also give some veggies on the side and we substituted the mash potatoes with french fries. Chicken pot pie- Did not expect this to be this big! This dish is definitely shareable with two people. It came out hot and the crust was just like a pie crust (you will get full quickly when eating this). There were a lot more veggies than chunks of chicken. However, it was still delicious! I've been in this area for about three years now, but never had the opportunity to go to Apple Annie's. The service was great, we were seated right away, Drinks come soon after. Had our appetizer of onion rings that were done to perfection right away and the food came shortly after. The sourdough chili bowl is enough for two people maybe even three, pulled pork was really very good and the fries were exceptional, the French dip had an abundant amount of beef and the apple coleslaw was really good. Hubby and I stopped by for some pie. There's a restaurant side and a strictly dessert side. We went to the sweets side and they had so many pies and other pastries. We opted for a slice of pie a la mode. Cost about 12 bucks but was worth it! Was more than enough for 2 ppl!! We got to chose between regular pie, mile high, or the crumb topped one. Love, love, love the pies here. We drive all the way to Oak Glen for them and have been for years. Service is great, the gals who work here are very sweet. I've tried most everything there and it doesn't disappoint. Sometimes the line can be long (which isn't a bad thing because it shows the love for the pies), but it moves pretty fast as you pass through. We came in for a late lunch, right after a bus pulled in. Yikes. There was just one waitress and two interns. The waitress did a great job handling the customer load, and the pace worked fine for us affording us the opportunity to watch the cat greet customers on the patio! I just drove up here for the apple pies from south Torrance. I nice 81 mile drive each way on a Saturday. yep as soon as I pulled over and parked at about 10:45am there where already crowds. So I went to the side of the restaurant to the little booth that sold numerous items. Pies pies and pies lol. I bought a 5 pound apple pie and also grabbed two traditional pies, one apple and one cherry. I placed them in my car and walked around for awhile, had lunch and started my trek back home. Apple annies is a great place. The surrounding areas covered in trees orchards and little spots to buy other items. I recommend stopping by if you like, it is family friendly and a great spot to enjoy a day out with some apple pie and lunch. Despite the long line, the wait wasn't too bad. We had already mentally acknowledged it would be a while. Service was friendly and the food came out rather quickly. The chili was good and so was the cornbread. The chicken pie was big, too big. The crust was great, but the filling had very little chicken and it was very doughy. Too much flour. The fish and chips were pretty good but the portion of fish was small and we're not big eaters. The mile high apple pie was average. Again, good crust but the apples were hard. The pie did not hold together at all and when it arrived it looked like a pile of apples heaped in a plate, not a slice of pie. The à la mode was an extra $4.95. The apple empanada was huge but same problem with the apples and then it was drenched in a syrup which was too sweet. I understand that it was busy and we were fairly satisfied with most the food. The hard cider was $19 per bottle/serving and the price was not on the menu, but the prices of the other ciders were significantly lower. That was a shocker as we ordered two. The coffee was priced like a specialty coffee shop, $4.85, but a terrible cup of coffee. I never saw the restrooms because there was a constant line which appeared to take 10-15 minutes to get through. There's no way one can visit Oak Glen and leave without a slice of Apple Annie's pie! First off, there are two lines for Apple Annie's - the bakery and the restaurant. If you just want pie - whether a whole pie, a slice ala mode, or baked pastries in general, there's the bakery line that is usually longer but goes by quicker. The other line is for the restaurant. Either way, both lines require a wait so pick your poison. I do think that as far as food options go for a day trip out to Oak Glen, Apple Annie's is a solid option! We chose to eat at the restaurant because we wanted actual hot food, and the wait was about 20-30 minutes. Both my friend and I ordered chicken tenders from the kids menu and a slice of apple pie ala mode, and I got a cup of cider while my friend got a cup of apple wine. The beverages were both refreshing - HIGHLY recommend the apple wine, it had the perfect flavor of apples in it. The pie with the kids menu size of food was perfect for one person. I will say that while the pie is delicious, it clashed with the ice cream and there was a LOT of ice cream. The pie is delicately sweetened, not as dense or overly sweet as some cobbers or berry pies - but ice cream is usually added to cut that sweetness. We went up to Oak Glen which is a tourist place up the hill from Beaumont California. It's really fun up,there during apple season in the fall. This place is a bakery and a restaurant. The bakery is pretty good but I hear the food at the restaurant isn't great so just visit the bakery. The apple pie and apple pastry were really good and reasonable . About $13. My biggest complaint is that she packaged my piece of pie to go without much crust but it did have lots of good apples. The trade off is the variety since the normal plates were a few dollars cheaper, but good nonetheless. It's best to go here on the chaotic weekend rather than try to beat the crowd...or not at all. My family and I thought we would have a joyful experience but the attitudes and distasteful manors of Donna from the bakery and Zoe from the restaurant left us never wanting to come back. We understand the staffing problem you may have on the weekdays but that doesn't mean you have to express your frustration to the customers. The irritation was clear as day.
