We came here one night to eat out and the service was terrible . Multiple waiters walking around with very few customers and we were sitting there for a while to have our order taken. Our food eventually came but the person who brought us our food was using his sleeves to bring out plates out to us. The rice flew off the plate and on to my mom and on the table . All he did was apologize and than walk away. It's took almost 30 minutes before someone came to our table to get the payment mind you we tried getting there attention multiple times . An no one wanted to come to our table. Wouldn't recommend going unless you don't mind waiting an hour to get any kind of service. I'm no food critic but I think people have the right to know about my experience. read more

First off I'd like to say that my waitress was amazing it's too bad the manager was way too busy for his customers. So one thing you need to understand about Applebee's in Corpus Christi, this is the place I always go, or at least I did. It's close to the campus where I work. I work very long hours and usually late into the night. I would come here after work because I could get good service and good food along with their happy hour specials. Things have really changed since last spring when I was last there. I went in tonight to find several things were changed, these changes are why I won't be back. The first thing I found was that upon ordering one of my favorite apps the pretzel breadsticks and beer cheese dip. I found Applebee's no longer gives a good portion of cheese sauce. They used to give you more than you needed which was fine because you could dip things like your fries or something in it. Now I find that they only give you enough for 2 1/2 maybe three breadsticks but never four. I wouldn't mind this but the actual sauce is in the title of the appetizer if you're not going to serve enough cheese dip then change the name to pretzel sticks and dips. Upon asking for more cheese sauce I was told that I would have to order an entirely new order of pretzel breadsticks and cheese dip ridiculous, I shouldn't have to order that much food just to get a little more cheese sauce. I was told that I'd have to speak with the manager if I wanted just cheese sauce. This is also ridiculous, but thinking OK I will talk to the manager and then maybe he can figure out a way to change the policy. However, the manager was too busy chitchatting with the other workers in the restaurant, literally he was 5 feet away chitchatting, he would not come over to my table but said, "make sure she understands next time she'll be charged for the extra cheese sauce and pretzel sticks". The next thing was I ordered an 8 ounce steak when I've come to Applebee's before the steaks have always looked really good and tasted amazing. Unfortunately this time this steak probably shouldn't even be called a steak you can see the picture I'm about to post on yelp, but it was a pathetic looking piece of meat. We ordered a medium done steak and it was way too overcooked as if it were a very, well-done steak and unbelievably dry. Also ordered battered fish and chips; the batter on the fish was soggy, the fries weren't even warm and they tasted old, and my side of mac and cheese, was very plain with little to no taste and barely any cheese. It's an Applebee's people. All of the folks on here that are stone cold bitching make me sad for the future of our country. It's a mid level chain restaurant-were you expecting five star service and food for the cheap prices on the menu? It's open super late, so that's good. I agree with the others, the wait staff had a real "I don't give a shit" attitude. The food doesn't look anywhere as good as the pics on the menu (no surprise there). My tiny steak in the salad I got (they did clearly state it was only 4 ounces of steak) was half gristle. My wife's chicken was kind of gross - tasted like the fried was turned up too high and burnt the batter. So three stars for average stuff. Good taste to the food, not the best I've ever had but not outside of what I was expecting. Would have liked to see the servers care a little bit more. Or at all. Pedestrian food in an average atmosphere at a decent price. Anyone who came in here expecting more than that should be sterilized before they have kids. Me= "yeah"... 15 MORE minutes later they bring my order out with French fries no onion rings like I requested (to tell you the truth I didn't' think they were going to get it right).... The Quesadilla cheeseburger was meh, OK... the onion rings were terrible. No flavor, no Seasoning. Just batter with a taste of cooking grease. I didn't even finish my meal. I stood up, and the woman said "are you ready for your check sir "? Me= "yes I am". Didn't even ask what was wrong, Didn't even ask how I liked the meal. So what does all this tell us ? Poor management for starters, an IDGS attitude from staff, probably due to very low pay and low morale. So all I have to say about that experience is if you are ever in Corpus Christi looking for something good, run run run away from this place. Staying next door for business and wanted a quick lunch. After a 10 minute hold on the phone I ordered. I pick up the food and bring it back to my hotel. I bite in to the sandwich and find a tiny pube-like black hair. I remove it and keep eating because I am starving and understand Ive probably eaten worse in my life. AS I continue to eat, I find FIVE more tiny black hairs. Perhaps they are running a barber in the back of the kitchen. Or perhaps the Hairy chef just needs to do better grooming. By far the worse service and food I've ever had in Corpus. I've lived here for 5 years and this was the first time at Applebee's as we enjoy "chain restaurant " food every once in a while. Service was slow, I had to take my glass of tea to the front hostess to get a refill, we got our salads with our food. When we did get the food it was cold and the only thing edible was the meat in the plate and it wasn't cooked properly. I'm going to go 3 stars as neutral on Applebee's. It'd been 3 years at least since we'd come here and honestly neither of us could remember why we quit coming here. it's in the close neighborhood. Well a dinner visit and then a lunch visit the next day and we basically came to the same conclusion we reached (and went "oh...yeah" for why we got there: value.) The service varies in quick and slow...and in the slow, I think it falls back on the kitchen. Neither time were we in a packed house and with the slow service it seemed that all the wait staff were making excuses from what we could hear...they were tending the drinks as best they could, but the food and apps weren't coming out in a timely manner...for us included. On the dinner visit, I ordered an 8oz steak (basic...no toppings...which they seem to be getting away from TG) but the thing...while tasty was really full of gristle or fat that was impossible to chew and hard to cut out. On the lunch visit, we both ordered "American standard" hamburgers or something like that....and while the patty was cooked well, the burger falls apart due to the bun being so small. You basically have to re-assemble the thing if you put it down to wipe your mouth or hands. It's very messy. The portions are sized well and not so much you can't finish and need a "doggie bad"...but the prices are still set for those other places that provide too much for one sitting. I appreciate proper portions, but would further appreciate prices that reflect the smaller portions. read more

Early last week, I ordered an online pick up and everything was delicious! Chicken in the wonton chicken tacos could have been hotter but the wontons were crisp and tasted amazing. Like, I craved them for days! Last night, I ordered the exact same meal(s) and it was very disappointing. Wontons were soggy, all the food (but the mashed potatoes which were at least warm) were cold and the addt'l charge for the grilled veggies was a joke since it consisted of 3 slices of zucchini, 2 slices of squash and 3 slivers of red pepper. The staff is always super nice and it's always happy hour and they always have excellent deals. Goodbye Applebee ... I have not been to any Applebee's over 2 years, but my husband and son like Applebee's, so I said, "Let's go". I was kind of hoping I will like Applebee's as much as my husband and son do. It was Friday, night, our wait was about 30 min. While we were waiting, we saw a group of 4 adults (3 men + 1 woman) and 2 young kids (2~3 yrs?) in waiting area. The adults ordered alcoholic beverages, got their drinks served, and started drinking in the waiting area. I totally understand that we had to wait until we were seated without a reservation. I think We (customers in general) are more patient to wait in waiting area until we are seated, than waiting for 10 minutes until a server to get to our table to take drink order. If your staff is not ready to take care of a new table, why do they seat a group of new customers? I ordered Grilled Dijon Chicken & Portobellos: This is what I was supposed to get .. Marinated chicken breast grilled and topped with roasted red peppers, onions, portobello mushrooms, Dijon sauce and aged white cheddar. Served with steamed herb potatoes and seasonal vegetables Marinated chicken was WAAAAY too salty. I got roasted red peppers, but NO Portobelos at all! and Red Pepper slices (not small cubes, but thick slices) were not cooked at all. It seemed that they just put raw red pepper slices on top of chicken. Aged white cheddar was slightly melted on the top, but not all the way. Steamed herb potatoes was a salty gooey mess. What's the point of asking 'how would you like your stake' if it's all gonna be cooked well done? Waitress didn't even ask what I wanted for the sides with it either (but guess it wouldn't matter because they'll probably get me what they want to give me; ie the steak). Took forever for our food to get to the table and place wasn't even that packed. And they gave me about 10 diced potatoes and one was rotten (and I'm pretty sure it was not over cooked on one spot). Walked in and hostess was oblivious. I walked in holding my 10 month old and she asked if I needed a kids menu but no question or assumption that I needs a high chair. (She is petite it's not like she's a huge baby) Then I witnessed her be rude to a customer who parked out front for curb side service and was obviously visually impaired and did not offer to go out of her way to help her but instead told the elderly lady she could go to the bar to get help. I must confess that I had expected better from this place. Service-wise, it was lacking miserably. I was never offered a refill on my drink and I was informed as my steak arrived that they were out of all kinds of steak-sauce. One, the server should have known that fact and informed me as I was ordering and, two, what kind of restaurant runs out of steak sauce? Especially during this period of time where they are having limited seating. By that rule, there are only half as many customers as usual. The food itself was hit or miss. My wife loved her Four Cheese mac-n-cheese with chicken tenders. My steak was cooked well. But, my friend's steak was overcooked. The sides of fries and mashed potatoes were average to poor at best. Even the two pina coladas that we ordered tasted like they were made like they were made by someone who doesn't have much experience in making them. Then the food came... no silverware or anything. I believe it was the chicken lime nachos we had. The food tasted like it could give me salmonella at any point. In addition, I ordered another margarita because I wasn't satisfied with the presentation or the one that I was given. That margarita looked exact same and didn't even include some of the stuff of the picture had advertised. By that point I called the manager and told him that I'm not eating this food, it taste disgusting and the drink was poorly made again. Didn't even bother touching or paying for anything.
