Took the family to lunch at Applebees in Gig Harbor. At the table next to us a contractor set up a ladder into the ceiling and proceeded to drill and hammer very loudly. We could not hear ourselves talk and dust was falling on the table and food. We complained to the server but he said there was nothing he could do. It looked like the contractor was running electrical line for a new light switch. Seems like this work could have been done outside of peak meal hiurs. read more

Updated review: Stopped by today after grocery shopping. The hostess said to seat ourselves in the bar, and that the server would be right with us. After a few minutes the hostess brought us menus and told us that the server would be right over. It was not busy, and there were many staff working, nobody appeared rushed or in a hurry. Terrible service, clear staffing issues, especially at 7pm on a Sunday night.... Walked in and was told a 10 minute wait which is fine but the restaurant was half empty. When we got sat our server only had 1 maybe 2 other tables in his section. Didn't get greeted until 20 minutes, didn't introduce himself or nothing, just went straight into our order. Me and my partner both got the endless boneless wings, he came back a few minutes later and asked if we wanted to order our refills of wings now because they were apparently taking a long time to come out. Which they didn't take that long, and the refills came before the actual first order of wings. One of the refills was the wrong flavor, the plates barely came with any fries, we asked if we could get some extra and he never gave us any. He used the excuse of how the kitchen had some more coming out in a minute. You could tell he was only worried about his big top that already had entrees and everything and neglected our table. I could have killed a slug with the amount of salt on my french fries. The bun for my bacon cheeseburger was very dry but it actually helped absorb the abnormal amount of grease leaking from the burger. Bacon wasn't crispy and I asked for no pink in my burger and it was very pink. Seems like our server never returned to the table since there is a POS kiosks for payment at every table. You're reading a review for Applebee's, so you've already got some sort of preconceived notion of what this place is. If you're on Yelp, you probably hate that several hundred other restaurants share the same name and menu. It's a corporate restaurant, with a corporate menu... Eating good in the neighborhood. Blah. We're all individuals and we deserve to be treated as such. Well, if you stopped reading at the end of the previous paragraph you've done yourself a disservice. Granted, you'll probably never set foot inside this building and quite honestly, they don't need your negative attitude, because the culture at THIS Neighborhood Bar and Grill is top notch. Everybody is appreciated, everybody is treated as a special guest, and that starts at the top with management. Brenda, a manager at this location, is a whirling dervish of quick rebuttals, one liners, stories, and everything else that one could possibly ask for from a person is the food service industry. She's quirky and outspoken, hilarious and helpful, but also completely lovable all at once. Her team also follows her friendly lead. We go to restaurants for things that we can't replicate at home. Many diners confuse this irreplicable Je ne sais quai with food items on the menu. It isn't. What we really crave is to be treated better than we are in our own kitchens. Grilled chicken breast will always be grilled chicken breast whether it's cedar, gas, or whatever. We just trick ourselves into believing the wizardry lies in the kitchen. While the men and women in the kitchen deserve tons of credit, HOW their menu is presented is what brings customers back. I'll be coming back here again. I just watched a bartender get overwhelmed because the world descended upon her restaurant all at once.. It happens to the best of us. But what I saw next was what spawned this review. Brenda and her staff jumped into action to take care of every customer in the bar and at the rail. They were ALL friendly, polite and sincere. Though they won't be tipped out at the end of the shift for their help, they did so because they're a part of a team. They stabilized the bar and gave the reigns back to the bartender with everybody having a drink in hand and a food order on the way. Though it hasn't always been this busy on all of my visits, I've always received this level of service here. The people make any restaurant succeed, and this restaurant has them in spades. Fantastic service from an energetic wait staff. We recently moved out here from the city and after 3 trips to Applebees I had to write a review sharing my positive experiences. We've had a different waitress each time and all 3 have been terribly nice. The food has always come out quickly and the restaurant itself is usually decked out in seasonal gear, not to mention the Seattle sports wall on one end (hey, even Sounders coverage - sweet!). The food is good, in my opinion. Anyone coming to Applebees expecting a Ruth's Chris steak WILL be disappointed. The steak is $10 here for a reason, folks. I don't beat up my Kia salesman so much because the car doesn't have air conditioned seats, you know? ;) Despite being a national chain, they do have some good food items. I absolutely love the pretzel stick & cheese dip appetizer. I haven't seen this anywhere else and it's good just by itself. I've had the burger, a chicken dish, and the steak. None of it was award-winning, but if you were expecting that you don't come to Applebees. I come here because it is inexpensive, consistent, and the staff always puts a smile on my face. If there were an option to give zero stars, I would do that. But one star because the restaurant appeared to be clean. We used to go there about twice a month. However, service has been steadily going down hill. Yesterday, when we came in, the person that we think was the manager greeted us with a friendly "Looks like you brought the sunshine in with you." That was the last interaction we had with anyone. We asked the hostess for a table and she simply grabbed 2 menus, rapidly walked to the far side of the restaurant, dropped them on a table, and met us half way back to her spot at the hostess station. No words. No wait staff in sight, but there was another party sitting in the same section so we figured our person would be along soon. 5 minutes pass and finally the other table gets their drinks, delivered one at time, with a total of 2 trips to deliver a glass of water and then a cup of coffee. Surely, she will stop by our table, since she passed us twice. She passes by us again to take their food orders. No acknowledgement for us at all, so we flag her down by basically shouting, "Excuse me,excuse me ma'm. Are we one of your stations?" Response: "I don't know", turns away and goes to the computer to put in her order. We've been there now for 10 minutes and decided that these were 10 minutes we'd never get back in our lives and left. Perhaps by now they've figured out we're gone. Save yourself some hassle and go to Hop and Drop, which is near Fred Meyer on the other side of Olympia. Same kind of food, but tastier and super friendly, prompt service. read more

Staff doesn't know their own menu. I asked if one omission from a dish were possible and was assured absolutely. It came with the ingredient. Sent back. About 15 minutes later was told it wouldn't be possible to make it without. Food finally arrived (To Go) while half of my party had finished, and left! Management was good enough to comp my replacement meal but the whole thing was a bit too-late to save the dinner. It's good for small children. And the mashed potatoes are super garlicy and good. Oh, the steak was scary (I know, no shock). But it has some sort of thick, rubber tendons running through the middle. I give a half star to this place simply because they have decent sport decor. They microwave their steaks, food is terrible. Friends pasta was half cooked, Mac n cheese half frozen. Came in for a drink with friends, the bartender brought her kid to the bar area and was playing with him, having him walk on the tables. Bartender doesn't even know simple cocktail recipes. Went at 2:50 for a late, but hopefully quick, lunch. Ordered and by 3:15 I still didn't have food. The waitress said that it didn't print when she put the order in because they were changing the paper so she rushed my appetizer. Got that and then my food. When I got my food, I asked for a box, a drink refill, and the check. The burger was warm, but not hot, which would be expected, and reddish pink on the inside. The check was wrong - they tried to charge me $6 more than the lunch special. I'm still waiting for the box and the drink. And there was no apology or discount offered and clearly the waitress is aware of how long this is taking. read more

Very happy to be able to get true no-contact curbside pickup! I placed an order on their website, pulled up to the curb and called to ask if they could load the order in the back of the car without a signature. Pickup went smoothly, employee wore a mask, and I didn't have to come within 6 feet of anyone. Best of all, the employee had a great attitude- no deep sighs or eye rolls! read more

Having frequented Applebee's often I am so disappointed that they (as so many restaurants) are using the pandemic to reduce their menu options. Not only have they quit making bake potatoes and flame grilled veggies but the have also greatly reduced their portions. They are now serving coleslaw in dipping cups. They are reducing their portions but not their prices. They are making the same decisions that Dickeys BBQ made, and Dickeys went out of business. I would like to continue eating at Applebee's but apparently Applebee's no longer cares about their customers. I have gone from a several times a week customer to a couple times a month, soon it will cease. Disappointing is the term that comes to mind. read more

Received email on Tuesday, Dec 20th, saying "All You Can Eat Riblets on THURSDAYS" so we came in on Thursday, Dec 22nd and they said the All You Can Eat Riblets is on Wednesday's ... WHAT?!? They did honor the ad, but the service was ridiculously slow. We also had different menu's, one said 2 for $20 and the others said 2 for $22 ... again ... SAY WHAT?!? They server was upset that we asked about either of the items. When this location opened a few years back they were really well staffed, however, has gone down hill ever since. We have not been back for over a year because of the service and this being our first time back, VERY DISAPPOINTED! Our table was a family of 4, two ordering the All You Can Eat Riblets, and the other two ordering the 2 for $20 (or is it $22). FINALLY, the last straw was when we received the bill they charged us $15.99 rather than $12.99 for the Riblets and 2 for $22 ... not right!!! read more

I've only been to an Applebees in Bellevue once. I went to the Gig Harbor Applebees out of desperation (my boyfriend is really picky) and we knew we'd have a better chance of both finding something to eat on a big menu. We just moved to the area and were unfamiliar with the "good" restaurants in town and figured we'd go here. We've been here now 4 times - and every time we go, we are seated quickly, the servers are top notch and we are treated like royalty. Exaggerating? Absolutely not. It's ridiculous how nice and courteous these folks are. Oh, yeah and the food is fantastic. Each time, the food has been consistent in it's goodness and the staff consistent in their courteousness. Each time, I've given the staff a 40% tip. And I'm pretty cheap so that tells you something. I'm not sure if this experience is across the board in all Applebee's - but this one in Gig Harbor has done it right. Kudos to all the staff at Applebees in Gig Harbor. I usually try to patronize local restaurants, before choosing a chain establishment. But, one night I decided to try the new-ish Applebee's in Gig Harbor. I've now been back a few times, only for take-out. The reason I keep coming back is 1) the diversity of the menu 2) the staff. The staff at this location is just outstanding!! There hasn't been one visit there I didn't leave feeling like a valued customer. Seriously.. the bar, door, and serving staff, were stellar. That is what I usually visit location restaurants for.. the personal service. The Applebee's menu is extremely diverse, with lots of new items. The portions aren't huge, which is actually great. I've never been disappointed with my food choices, though I was bummed that my pasta entrees were completely cold last time. :( I will continue to visit this location. The food is standard family chain restaurant, but their menu is imaginative, with so many choices. The prices are good, and the decor is interesting. All Applebee's are very loud, though, I think that's what they're going for. And okay, the only real "con" of this location is the heater turned up to 80 degrees most of the time, it's unbearable, but I guess it makes people buy more drinks. lol read more

Great service, great food. I requested a drink that wasn't on the menu (pomegranate mojito) and they were delighted to make it and did a great job! Also modified items on their menu to accommodate my vegetarian diet with no fuss (they even made suggestions), and deducted $ from my meal because I removed the chicken that came with the pasta. What happened to the "neighborhood grill"? I just ate there. We had Salsa Verde Nachos, Chopped chicken salad and Thai Shrimp salad. Water for drinks and the bill was over $30, without tax. The nachos had about 1 oz. of meat, a drizzle of cheese and a hint of Pico de Gallo. Flavor was ok. The chopped salad was decent size and good flavor. The Thai shrimp salad was tiny! But, it did come in a large bowl!! Flavor was alright but it really was side salad size. Those details should be explained in advance. Our waitress was pleasant but not very helpful.
