Didn't expect much from this place. Not a big fan of American fast food diners either, but holy the service was terrible! Came in with my Asian family and was treated by a white waitress who was mean to us from the moment we sat down. She was impatient with my family even when I spoke decent English to her. Had a mean and bitc** face on the whole time. The food wasn't that good (expected). When the salad came, it was mostly browned and going bad. I asked her while pointing at the salad why it is like this, she told me that's how the salad is today. But the thing was the table next to us had perfectly fine salad. Stopped here becaus we were starving and from out of town. Sat at the bar and the gentleman was very nice. However, nothing behind the bar was clean. The wells had crap all over them as well as the dishwasher. Even the sink had mold around it where the ice was!!! And on the water line!! I was sick to my stomach by the time we left. The best thing is here the service! I was really so hungry when I offered my food, and it takes less than 20 mins to get it! The only point lost because of the mozerrella sticks. My granddaughter and I stopped in for lunch. 15 minutes or so after ordering the manager came to our table to apologize for our wait and to inform us that my meal wasn't ready. She offered us an appetizer while we waited. After our lunch came the manager and our server, Brenda, stopped by the table numerous times to check on us. Mediocre food at high prices. Mozzarella sticks are dry and lukewarm. I ordered the caprese chicken with basalmic dressing. It was gross. My daughter said her hamburger bun tasted doughy. Plus the air conditioner was not on and it was so stuffy inside. I will not be coming back. Ever. read more

So I had not gone to an Applebee's in probably over 10 years because of past bad experiences BUT I was pleasantly surprised to have a very decent experience at the Gilroy Applebee's . My friend had suggested we go for the October "dollaritas" and not horrible actually pretty decent especially for a buck . I can't stand walking into a restaurant and not feeling welcome. The hosts here need to at least pretend to be happy to see the people coming in. The girl was also smacking bubblegum. Gross. One of the worst restaurants I've been to in regards to service. Food was mediocre and not worth the 10 minute seating wait, and the 30 minute wait to actually get the food. When seated, we ordered a hot chocolate and two waters from the electronic menu they have. Our server was very prompt in bringing us one water and a hot chocolate. Offered me a spoon for my hot chocolate which was pouring over the sides of my mug. Never brought it. On the bright side, the hot chocolate tasted delicious after mixing it with my fork. Appetizer (chips and spinach dip) took 20 minutes to be brought to our table, and the chips ended up being stale. I guess that didn't really matter considering how scarce they were. Ended up asking their food runner to ask the server to bring us a different appetizer (mozzarella sticks) because our server, Jamie, had such a lovely time checking in on all the guests surrounding our table but not us. I counted the number of times she asked how our other tables were doing (7). I counted nothing for how many times she asked my mother and I. More chips were brought in addition to the mozzarella sticks that we requested from the food runner. She told us she took it off the receipt for us, a kind gesture. Too bad she didn't, and we had to request a receipt in person so that we could pay for our food and have her actually take the mozzarella sticks off. A man ended up sitting next to us, and he tried flagging down our server for a few minutes before I had to tell her that he needed her attention. Food: I ordered the spinach and artichoke penne. It was pretty good, relatively bland, but nothing salt and pepper can't fix. My mother enjoyed her chicken and shrimp, but she felt as if there were vegetables missing from the dish. I'm not sure if it's just a coincidence that the two tables Jamie decided to neglect were seated with people of color, but it sure as hell felt intentional. I've never been in Gilroy except to shop, but my mom and I made the stop because we were hungry and had another hour to go before reaching home. Thanks to this restaurant, I can proudly say I would rather wait a few hours to eat than make any future stops in any restaurants in Gilroy, if their service is similar. Placed online order for a second time with this Applebees and they screwed up again. I left Hollister and placed online order for pick up asap. Get there 20 minutes later and order hasn't been started. Manager 1 says sorry we will make right now. Making excuses of the previous nights power outage. Manager 2 says it's not supposed to be ready until 11:27, and I say yes it's 11:34. Really should have been reimbursed or compensated somehow for the troubles and the fact that they made me 1/2 hour late to work. The service was good, that is what earned this Applebee's Four Stars. From when we walked in, until we left, our experience was outstanding. We ordered our meals and it seemed to come out really fast. Almost like they knew what we were going to order, and boom, there it was. I had ordered the Herb Shrimp and Steak off the weight watchers, now I was skeptical at first, no longer, this was delicious. Yikes! It's been years since I've been to this (or any) Applebee's, but my husband and I decided to stop by for lunch since I had a gift card. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because our server was very sweet and attentive. Other than that...eep! The restaurant was hot, muggy and smelled like mildew. The table was sticky and there was food crusted in between the pages of some of the menus. There was food on the ground under the tables. When our meal arrived it was kind of slopped on the plate, with sauce flung to one side, sides on the other...zero presentation. What my husband ordered looked like a Lean Cuisine that had been heated in the microwave and them dumped upside down onto the plate. Like I said, our server was kind so that's a plus. Do yourself a favor- go over to In-n-Out again, or Mc Donalds, or even the Hot dog stand at the Home Depot (great guy and a local secret favorite by the way). BUT AVOID THIS STICKY, SMELLY, HONEY BOO-BOO DATE NIGHT DESTINATION OF INDIGESTION AT ANY COST! Really. I wish I could say otherwise, but as one of the busiest Applebees in the country you would think that they would: 1: Understand that it smells like a shuttered up zookeepers shower room in Orlando in August. 2: Understand that occasionally wiping the last 30 diners sputum off the table with actual cleanser is a positive thing. 3: Wilted, soggy, cold, unseasoned greens placed in a jumble with boiled until deceased (and likewise completely unseasoned) new potatoes holding hands with what could only be described as a cadaverous excuse for poor Flossy the milk cow's tumerous beef growth is not a steak dinner. 4. Mac and Cheese, covered with dried chicken (I hope) tenders, and then drenched with a brown embalming fluid is not American, comfort food, or even possibly legal in some states. 5. Artichoke what? on Salmon? Wha? Ew. Wilted, wet and uncomfortable once again. 6. There are beers that you say you have but you don't because they are only in some restaurants but not this one? But they are on the friggin menu but your server can't get them for you 'cause whatever 'cause whatever 'cause well to hell with it. (Try some alcohol in your mixed drinks too, if you can afford to put another lump of coal on the fire Uncle Scrooggelebee.) I could go on, but won't. I think you get it. Recommendations to Applebees parent company or otherwise: 1. Every single night clean the **** out of this place. Stem to Stern. Figure out with cadaver dogs or otherwise where that smell is coming from. (Carpet, chairs and tables probably in that order Mr. Manager.) 2. Send your head chef ( the guy who makes up dishes such as the aforementioned wouldn't serve it to Gitmo prisoners Mac -n-Cheese) well..... to Gitmo (before it closes down or just leave them there.) Good grief- everything was just awful- even to look at. 3. Retrain the entire staff- they probably thought one of the perks of working there was eating for free...I feel so sorry for them. Please give them meaning in life by allowing them to serve decent, non-hybridized, over reaching, godawful attempts at some sort of American cuisine. Tone it down in the kitchen. just make it good. Simple. Tasty. Your customers are the tired and newly poor (Outlet Malls again) and need to treated as such. Not given literally what could be their last meal before they contact some incurable virus from the environs and cross the dark divide. 4. Remember what it means to be in charge of what was once one of the most sought after restaurant chains for groups such as the Ladies Auxiliary retirement club, or the speed dater's anonymous Wednesday group, or the Holiday Inn Express next door go to place. C'mon people, you were great once. ( I think) ( I heard it somewhere). This isn't complicated. Throw on some clean socks, slick back your hair, hike up you khakis, and make Gilroy's Applebees the apple of your eye! James, our waiter was the highlight of the lunch meal. He was very attentive, funny, thorough and we tipped him well. The meal was as expected at Applebee's. Nothing to rave about but edible. We loved James and think he should be made Server of the month if they have such a thing. If you go for lunch as for James he is worth it. Funny bathroom situation..........line out the door into the hallway for the two holer women's room so we started using the men's. When the last man standing came out of the men's he stood guard so the ladies could use the facilities. And this was a lunch, can't imagine the back up during happy hours. read more

You know this Applebee's has some harsh critics. Ill tell you what... Ask for Monica. She is amazing. You can't beat the 2 for 20. Tv's with a bar. I mean really, what are you gonna expect, five star hospitality. It's a chain restaurant. I guess you just have to know what's good and what's not. Let me tell ya what. If you get to the restaurant and do not know what you want and just gonna wing it and it's no good, well that's your fault I would say most people who come in here know what to expect. I personally enjoy eating at applebee's but this applebee's was something else. Our server, was very attentative at first to our needs despite the massive crowd that appears to be common here however as dinner progressed that attention as well as getting any server's attention was non-existant. When we were first seated (a booth) my girlfriend's seat was wet along with scraps of meat and bread on the unwiped table, which happened to also have small flies around (as do all the other booths to pur surprise). Our appetizer took 15 minutes to receive and our mealstook another 15 minutes. The chicken penne (the limited time one) along with the happy and energetic nature of our server, steph, is the only reasons why this place is even receiving a star. The audacity of the other waiters to be rude and failing to respond to a simple "excuse me" is let alone a let down on it's own. To be honest, you're better off waiting the line at in-n-out or going mcdonalds haha. read more

We have usually had good food and service here. The problem we have noticed is the management is clearly lacking. The final straw for us ever going there again was the week before last when we saw the bartender refuse to serve an underaged girl at a table with two other legal aged ladies. These ladies just kept feeding the underaged girl their drinks. After a while the very busy bartender caught on and removed all the drinks from the table(which she legally had to do, since I have been a bartender myself). The bartender went to management to 86 the three people since they were pretty much yelling cuss words at her and the management would not back her up. It looked like the bartender quit on the spot because of this type of thing happening before. That was the last time we go!!! read more

I had came to Applebee's today when Hometown Buffet across the way didn't open on time. So decided to go to Applebee's. Service from the start was great!! Wonderful greeting at the door, friendly service, great advice on Bourbon steak from our waitress Amy. Two out of four of our plates came out cold. My mom ordered a well done cheeseburger and it came out cold and medium. Our waiter was also absent for most of our meal and didn't check on us. We had to flag down the manager and tell him about our cold meal. read more

For a party of 8, we were seated very promptly as they prepared our table. Our waiter was very kind and very attentive bringing us refills and extra sauces without asking. The appetizers that we chose, about 4-5 different kinds, came out within 15 mins. The appetizers tastes really fresh and delicious. I highly recommend the chicken wonton tacos soooo good! Three people at our table ordered spirits and those didn't take too long to come from the full bar. Our dinner was out before we knew it, hot and delicious! I had the bourbon street style chicken and shrimp with mashed potatoes, yummy! I would definitely go back!! read more

This is your standard Applebee's with the standard menu. With that being said, our meal was what we expected for the price that we were expecting. This place sealed the deal. Applebees is on the "will not ever again" list. Our original server (Jimmy) paid us close attention but after he switched with another waitress all went to hell. Don't even bother ordering an alcoholic drink. We both ordered one and both were basically a child's fruity drink. I'd like to at least taste some alcohol so I know its not just some crappy punch. The food was okay. We received our appetizers at the same time as the rest of our meal. Poor kitchen management. read more

ONE STAR ONLY BECAUSE I HAVE TO. Horrible service . We stopped by on a weekday , ("less busy day)" my daughter wa hungry so i figured we can stop by and grab early lunch... Well I was WRONG. We get there and it already takes FOREVER just for waitress to take our drinks order ... I order a cocktail.... Then a couple came after us. They got there order and drinks before us... Well that was annoying, okay then we FINALLY GOT our phone order mind u still NO DRINKS. Then after 15 min we FINALLY GOT OUR DRINKS... Okay the couple across from us order right after us and their food was ready... Okay we waited for ANOTHER ten minutes and we asked a random waitress if we can get the manager... After 15 minutes NOTHING. no food no manager... It seemed like all the "managers" we're in a meeting .. So my lovely mother went over there and the so called "manger" said "ok ill be right there in a VERY RUDE manner so we decided to just leave... the manger tried to apologize but it was already tooooo late...
