Ok... since I've been servicing real estate for over 18 years, there have been few repairmen I've acquainted with in the past. I had to turn to App Doc for the first time because of other reasons... I am definitely happy with Paul and App Doc.. I found him via Yelp around 2: 45 pm. He returned the call to confirm the apt at 3:45pm. He got there before I did (I was late by 3 min)... Paul and his crew got into the house, skillfully removed the screws, electrical powers, and the entire oven from the cabinetry. The property manager for my rental left it up to me to locate a repair service and I found the Appliance Doc on Yelp. Paul, who I assume is the owner/technician called back within 5 minutes of the phone message that I left. He came out the very next day and within 10 minutes he disassembled the washer and diagnosed the problem which required ordering a special part. A week later Paul came out to install the new part and within a few minutes he was done. After he was gone I immediately started washing a load of clothes and noticed a strange noise. Nevertheless I proceeded and 30 minutes later I went to remove the clothes and stick them in the dryer and I noticed the washer was leaking more than before and the tub had not drained. What the heck? I immediately called Paul and arranged for him to come back out at 6pm that same day. Well to make the story short, Paul apparently had disconnected the pump during the initial diagnostic visit and didn't remember doing so. When he came to install the new part he forgot to reconnect the pump. Paul was able to get everything working again in short order. In the whole scope of things this was a minor inconvenience to have him come back a 3rd time but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt. He seemed like a nice man and boy does he work fast and efficient and returns calls promptly. He also removed his shoes before entering my place and I didn't even have to ask him :-). I paid $152 total, 60 of which was just for the initial service call to diagnose the problem. I don't know if this is a good deal or not but happy to have my washing machine working again. read more

Our 10 year old Kenmore washer kept getting the same error message (FH) until it finally stopped working this past June. On the strength of the Yelp reviews, I called Paul. He came out that same day...but get this.....he called to let me know he was running late (!!). Who does that anymore?? He knew what the problem was, ordered a new board for it, and came back two days later to install it. We were up and running and out a little over $300 for parts and labor. Wouldn't you know I got the same #@! error message this week. I called Paul again. He asked what I paid for the last repair and advised me that I would be better off buying a new washer than repairing it again. Now....this speaks to the integrity of who Paul is. Clearly he could have offered to get us another board and make more money but he didn't. Had 3 appliances that were having problems. Water sitting in the bottom of the dishwasher icked me out finally and decided to have them all fixed at once if the price was reasonable. He answered the phone, came the same day, had the parts in his truck for 2 of 3 appliances that needed work, fixed them quickly after explaining the problem, and charged a reasonable price. Coming back in a few days to fix the one appliance he didn't have parts for. As a bonus, he told me how to avoid the calcification on my fridge water/ice tray, and quickly fixed a broken part on my washer that would have meant replacing it otherwise (because of the cost of the part). Our washing machine broke down after 8 years of service. I called other appliance repair companies most had long lead times and one company, who has high reviews on yelp, would not even touch my washer as they said it was a problematic model and they choose not to service them. Called Paul and he was out the next day and at the time he scheduled. He was very familiar with my model of washer and knew the problem right away and had the part in his truck. Great attitude and very professional. Assessed the damage to refrigerator and let us know that it was probably still under warranty. The then helped us process an on-line claim to have the problem fixed. When we asked if he could do the warranty repair, he said that he could, but we would have to pay out of pocket and work with the warranty company for compensation since he is not on the network to repair our brand. I called Appliance Doc to check on my refrigerator defrosting issue based on the feedback here. Paul arrives promptly. However the experience thereafter goes downhill. He opens the refrigerator and looks inside. Then goes on to open motherboard behind. Knocks on the motherboard with his phillip screwdriver (ouch) first and shorts the two terminals with the screw driver (ouch again). Claims it is a faulty motherboard! I ask him why he thinks it is the motherboard. Condescendingly he looks at me and says "do you want me to explain the circuit to you?". I ask him to check the diagnostic panel and read me the error code. He refuses to do that. Clearly he can't explain me the problem but wants me to pay $300 to replace motherboard. Not convinced I decline to get motherboard replaced. I want to give him benefit of the doubt based on the feedbacks here. But he has to understand that people have right to know the problem before they can approve repairs. Also valley is full of very educated computer science and electronics engineers - who not only understand circuitry better than him but actually design it for living. Anyways, I go to repairclinic.com on a friend's recommendation and submit my query. The customer service responds with-in 24 hours with complete diagnostics and steps to identify problem and repair. Needless to say I was able to diagnose and repair it myself. Here is the rub - motherboard had no issue. The thermostat clamp had gone loose and it needed readjusting. Cost of repair 0. Time spent 10 minutes. Replacing a part is not a solution every time as was in my case. More importantly all will agree that being respectful to customers and being collaborative earns repeat business. I had used this company a few times, and they did ok on my dishwasher and a dryer problem. Then my Bosch dishwasher was leaking and damaging my hardwood floors. Gilbert came out and couldn't find a problem. He said the only possibility was the main board, which his partner Paul had replaced 9 mos. before ($400 and it would be the same cost to replace again). I then researched on the internet and found a known problem with this d/w's drain valve. I called Bishop Appliance who called their partner Appliance Saver and Wilson confirmed my diagnosis over the phone. He came within 2 hours and fixed it. These guys are shady. I was referred to them by my home warranty company. The first time I called them, I scheduled an appointment during a 2 hour window. I took time off work to be available and the guy didn't show. When I called to ask about this, they informed me he was running 2 hrs behind...but I wouldn't have known unless I called. When he finally showed up at another appointment 2 days later, he spent about an hour in my house examining my appliance while YELLING over his cell phone to headquarters. He then had to use my phone and spend another 30 minutes discussing parts. After writing them a check, he asked me to sign a document that the work had been completed despite no work. He left explaining that he had to look up the part to see if they could get it for the repair. Then a day later, I received a call that they do no support my model of stove. Interesting data point, since I told them over the phone multiple times the brand of my unit prior to the initial visit. My advice: STAY AWAY read more

I called the number three times and while I got the call picked up three times, I also wasn't able to schedule an appointment. I'm used to having people call me back when they're busy, not me call the vendor back because the vendor picked up while they're busy. I think Yelp has given this company a great deal of business, but so much so that perhaps he is now too busy. When you call the number as well, all you get is a 'hello', no 'hi, this is so and so' so I didn't even know if I was calling the right number. I like this guy. Getting my washing machine fixed was so easy! My washing machine had been spazzing out for the last two years. Finally, I made the call and Paul came out the same day within a couple hours. I've had a problem with my built-in refigerator/freezer being on a GFI outlet and tripping the circuit every few years. The house was originally built that way (Shea Homes) and I'm not sure why anyone would wire a dedicated appliance outlet to a GFI circuit. Anyways, Paul and his assistant came out to find the short. He basically decided to pull the unit out and dismantle the compressor assembly. After an hour of "trouble shooting" he plugs the refrigerator into a regular outlet and announces that there's nothing wrong with the refrigerator, but the GFI looks like it need to be replaced. He packs up his stuff and charges me $120 for his time... thanks! The worse part of this whole thing is that the refrigerator is now making a knocking noise every time the compressor motor runs. My Whirlpool Accubake oven/stove was acting up. The "Bake" Button and a few others were not working properly. I googled the symptoms and found several websites stating that the control card needed to be replaced. I called Paul and set up an appointment. He came over and told me that he thought only the control membrane needed to be replaced and not the entire control card. He ordered the part and returned the next day to install it. This is why you hire a professional. He saved me about $300 by replacing only the membrane instead of the card. Five stars. Prompt, friendly, and fair prices. I have Bosch dishwasher. It's about 7 years old. It would not start cycle. I called Paul and he diagnosed it over the phone to a problem where water leaked into the motor compartment. That's why the motor was stuck in drainage. I tried to google this problem and most information I found was simply useless. Paul came in the next day with his partner Wilson and they replaced the motor. Took about 1hr. However the new motor did not work properly so they had to go and get another motor from a different vendor. Both Paul and Wilson came in the next day and replaced the motor again. Problem solved. I called the "Appliance Doc" to fix a dishwasher that wasn't cleaning properly. He came in the morning at 9am said he identified the problem, left to get the part and came back that afternoon around 3pm with the part he thought it needed and came back and installed it (for over $350). Meanwhile I had to spend the whole day at home waiting for him to leave and come back. I called him the next day and let him know this only fixed the problem with he bottom shelf of the dishwasher, the first shelf still didn't clean properly. He came back and said the part needed for the top shelf wasn't in stock and he would call me when it arrived. I still haven't heard from him. I already spent a day and a half waiting for his previous repairs so I won't call him again, his inadequate work is not worth wasting my time or money on. He told me that it sounded like the water pump was dead and that it would need to be replaced, though he couldn't be sure unless he came out to take a look at it, and he gave me an approximate price range. He informed me that to come out would include a service fee of $65 but that the fee would be included in any work he did for me. He told me to think about it and call him back once I reached a decision. I decided to forego the service call and instead look for a new washer, but I was pleased with the promptness of the reply and the professionalism of the technician.
