Since this business moved out of San Jose I have not been to their new location in Sunnyvale. Too bad it's so difficult to get to, and reading the reviews about them being closed at odd hours when they're suppose to be open. I really want to rent their Thermax steam carpet cleaner as I cannot find anywhere else to rent it, and they have always been fair with price. I'm not going to drive 15 miles to find the doors closed as others have discovered, so maybe they just lost my business, unless someone can verify they are open when they say they are open? read more

We had ARE do a warranty repair on a new Rowenta power steam iron. I know about customer service as a 40-year retail storeowner. ARE provided the worst service I've experienced in 10 years. Two to three week turn-around took 2 months. They don't answer the phone, don't return calls left on their machine, and when I was able to get through they lied three times about shipping it out. I had to finally contact Rowenta multiple times to get them to send our iron back. When we finally received it I was surprised it even worked the way they uncaringly loosely piled all the components in the box as if they wanted UPS to damage it. Long story short I took my Hoover vac to them for repair and they lost the receipt I provided that was required for them to get the approval code to do the mandated repair work. Again, I was REQUIRED to leave my receipt per Hoover and I did. It was misplaced by A.R.E. and they blamed me and harassed me multiple times via text trying to get me to replace the receipt. It was my only copy, silly me I didn't think the designated Hoover repair shop would be this inept so I didn't make a copy of it. Neither A.R.E. or Hoover will make me whole so they just get to keep my broken vac and I'm out the cost of the machine. If I could give 0 stars at this point I would. The lack of customer service is ridiculous! I have called multiple times and no response. They have had my Delonghi Espresso Maker for over a month now and never called with an update. When we finally got through to someone, they said the part was on backorder and did not give us an ETA!! The amount that I have had to spend on getting coffee out has more than exceeded the cost of a new maker at this point! Very, very awful service and I definitely will never go here again. This shop did a warranty-covered fix of my Bissel steam cleaner after it stopped working. They called to let me know it was available to come pick up. I live 35-40 minutes away, in Palo Alto, but came here because it was the closest business that did repairs under warranty. I made the drive there on a Saturday morning to find that no one was there during their open hours. I waited in the parking lot for 45 minutes- no one. I've called about 10 times this week trying to find out when someone will be there next- no one ever picks up the phone. So this place has my machine but I cannot retrieve it since they aren't open during posted business hours and no one will pick up my call. I'm going to call Bissel and see if they can help me get my machine back. Stay away unless you want to spend hours of your time driving back and forth trying to retrieve your belongings and trying to reach someone. read more

My KitchenAid stand mixer started making this horrible grinding sound. A search for KitchenAid service centers showed up Appliance Repair Express. I was initially a little apprehensive reading the other reviews. But I figured I'd give it a shot (especially since the alternative was to ship the very heavy mixer to KitchenAid in PA). I'm here to tell you, they were fantastic! They told me I'd be contacted in a weeks time. Unfortunately this was around the week of Valentine's Day (cupcakes!!). I called and asked if they could rush it. Next day I get a call back saying the gears need replacing and it'll be ready for pickup the next day. Next day, my mixer is ready, it works flawlessly, and has been till today. I use my mixer a LOT! I was reluctant to take my coffee maker here for repair based on the reviews because customer service is important to me. But alas, it was the only place near me to repair my brand of coffee maker so I decided to give it a shot. I will start by saying that they did a great job fixing my coffee maker and even repaired some things I didn't ask them to. They repaired what was broken and made sure it was in tip top working order. It's like I have a brand new coffee maker. They were straight up with me on the length of time it might take. So why the one star off? The customer service isn't the best. The lady running the front wasn't the friendliest but hey, not everyone has a cheery disposition right? No one called me to tell me what the cost would be. I did have to call back twice before someone called back with the estimated price. And this was a week after they said they would have a chance to look at at it. *BUT* when they called back with the estimated price, they said it would be ready in just a day or two. YAY! This is a "mom and pop" shop that has been in the community for many years and I've used them before. They are a man and woman couple but they are not the same people whom I've done business with before. Unfortunately, this is the worst business I've had to deal with in very many years. When I dropped off my carpet cleaner September 3rd, it seemed innocent enough that the lady at the front did not give a receipt or statement of my machine being dropped off. Mistake #1 Instead they say they'll call me when it's ready. I should have considered that a sign for a lack of accountability. However, I trusted them as a local small business that I had used before. Mistake #2. I call back two weeks and two days later and the lady who was at the front counter said they ordered the part and they're waiting for it. I said it's been over two weeks. Parts would be received within two weeks if it were shipped from ANYWHERE within the United States. They said they're still waiting. I listened because I couldn't do anything at the time. Mistake #3. After another week and them having my machine for almost a month, I call them again and the guy who does the repairs answers saying the part they received was broken so they had to order another part. I state the fact of such a lengthy timeframe. The guy says I can come pick up my carpet cleaner if I want. But I give them another chance. Mistake #4 At this point I'm smelling something very fishy and my patience runs thin. It's now more than 6 weeks and they have never made the initiative to call for an update or anything. Tomorrow I'm picking up my cleaner and taking my business elsewhere and never returning for anything. I would be very embarrassed if I was the business owner. read more

We had been making a lot of homemade pizza dough during COVID and managed to bring our Kitchen Aid stand mixer to its knees. Hubby replaced the plastic gear but was still unable to get it started again. Waited forever to take it down to San Jose to get fixed, but once I decided that today was the day, I drove down in the early afternoon. The repairman carried it from my car, took my $20 analysis fee, and was able to tell me the problem within 5 minutes. He said it would take him 15-20 more minutes to adjust the speeds and service the rear bearings. I was happy to wait. 3 other customers came by to get help while I was waiting, so clearly this is an in-demand service. 15 minutes later I was driving away, having paid an additional $45 for labor/parts. So, a total of $65 to repair it-sweet! The service couldn't have been friendlier, faster, or more professional. I dropped off my Saeco Espresso Machine to be repaired. He had the machine for 3 Months and never fixed it. During those 3 Months I called dozens of times and left a dozen voicemails. Despite all my calling, I was only able to get ahold of them 2 times during the 3 Months. As an "Authorized Krups Repair Center" I drove 65 miles to bring in my machine which was leaking coffee. After paying $20 I was told after much pestering for two months it would take a month. A month later it hadn't been touched. They handed back and by then the entire machine was completely moldy. I had read all the mixed Yelp reviews for Appliance Repair Express but our KitchenAid mixer was on the fritz, my wife (a cookbook author) wanted to bake and we needed help. The next nearest KitchenAid-authorized repair center for countertop appliances is in Los Altos, so I headed to Cambrian Park. I found Appliance Repair Express next to the front door to Cambrian Bowl. The shop has lots of merchandise stored everywhere, both for sale and in for repair. I had a really positive experience. Appliance Repair Express diagnosed my (mixer's) problem and fixed it on the spot in about 10 minutes. They charged me the shop minimum repair rate ($10), they were friendly and I appreciated their help. Granted, as it turned out, my repair was simple. I can imagine that more complicated repairs can take much longer, and given that a lot of our devices these days aren't really designed to be serviced or repaired, I can see why some customers could leave here or anywhere else less than completely satisfied. These folks are in a tough line of work and I'm sure they often deal with upset, frustrated customers with stuff I'm sure they wish they could fix even more quickly and efficiently. FYI, when I was in the shop, two other customers brought in countertop automatic espresso makers - I guess they fix a lot of those, plus mixers, vacuums and lots of other small, portable appliances. What a nightmare. I was worried taking my mixer in after reading so many mixed experiences. But it needed repair and this place is down the street from me so I decided to take my chances. I dropped it off about a week and a half before thanksgiving, paid the $20 diagnostic fee upfront and was told they would try and get it back before thanksgiving. When I hadn't heard anything the next week I called. No answer, so I left a message with my number. Still nothing. Kept calling back and finally got a hold of someone. All they said was they were still working on it and would update me when they had a chance to diagnose it. Thanksgiving came and went. Still nothing. They don't answer the phone regularly. Finally my husband went down. They told him they'd diagnosed the problem but hadn't completed the repair because they hadn't been able to get a hold of anyone to approve it (they NEVER called me). He approved the $45 repair and they said it would be ready in a day or two. I thought it was fishy that they "couldn't" tell him what it was that needed repair. A few more days went by, several more attempted phone calls. They finally answered and said it was ready. Got it home only to find out that it turned on again, but now made a god awful high pitched screech. We took it back and they said they'd try again. We tried calling a few more times over the last week it was there. Never any answers. My husband finally got a hold of some one today. They said a bracket was loose, but it was fixed now and we could come get it. Got it home and the same problem- it's still making a god awful high pitched screech when turned on. So $65 later and I still have a mixer that can't be used and I'm tired of playing their games of calling and calling with no answer, not returning calls, and not even attempting to communicate with their customers. read more

I don't usually leave reviews but, given the mixed reviews here, I wanted to just share my positive experience. We took our Gaggia Brera superautomatic espresso machine that had some serious flow issues (caused probably by a lack of descaling) to the Appliance Repair Express shop on a Saturday morning. They charged us the $20 for diagnostic and said they'd call on Monday or Tuesday with a total. On Monday morning they called and said the problem was the pump that needed to be exchanged. They quoted $229.6, which seemed reasonable, given that the pump itself costs around $35 and they said they charged $98 the hour of labor. We agreed to the price and around two hours later they called again to let us know it was ready for pickup. I was honestly surprised, especially because I had read some reviews that said it took them forever to have it fixed, but it took less than three days to have our espresso machine back and working. We've been using it for a week now and it seems to work just fine. We'll be descaling it regularly now! read more

I had a broken Bissell Vaccum/steam mop. Was referred to them by Bissell as they are an authorized service center. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and received good customer service. I was told they would repair it or hear from them in a week or two. 4-5 weeks later, still no call or voicemail from them. I ended up calling them and leaving a voicemail. An hour later I get a call back saying that it is ready for pick up. Overall I am happy that they fixed my Bissell and it works like new again. Came buy with our DeLonghi Magnifica Espresso Machine, which needed repair. Was expecting a couple of weeks to diagnose, order replacement parts, and repair. However, Dean said he could diagnose it while I was there. After 15 minutes, he provided a repair estimate. Then since he had all the necessary parts, he said to come back in an hour and the machine would be repaired and tuned up! My jaw dropped. I never expected that level of service from any repair shop. I then brought the machine home, buffed out and polished the stainless steel tray, and it now works and looks as good as new, brewing perfect short shots of espresso. These guys saved my day! My wife arrived from a one week trip out of town, the next morning. I scored major brownie points by having the espresso machine back, all restored, and ready to perform! Appliance Repair Express is devoid of integrity or customer service. Anyone looking to have their appliances repaired would be well-advised to take their business elsewhere. I took a chance on Appliance Repair Express, despite negative the reviews on the Internet, because they were the only authorized Rowenta service center in the area. But as it turns out, Rowenta is also lacking in integrity and customer service. Rowenta refused any form of assistance when its authorized service center breached its contract with me and, presumably, failed to uphold the standards inherent in being deemed an authorized service center. When I first contacted Appliance Repair Express by email, it was to inquire if they could repair my steam iron. It was a simple Yes/No question, complete with a photograph of the broken part and information provided by Rowenta regarding what the part was. Appliance Repair Express promptly responded to my first email, then stopped communicating with me. It took three more emails over five days before they would answer me. But instead of giving me a simple yes or no that this was something they could fix, they insisted that I bring them the steam iron and pay $20 for an estimate. So I did as they asked. At that point, we had a contract for service: (1) Appliance Repair Express's offer to provide an estimate for repairs, (2) my acceptance of that offer, and (3) consideration in the form of the $20 that I paid. But then Appliance Repair Express breached the contract. I heard nothing from Appliance Repair Express for two weeks. First I phoned and reached only a recording. So I left a voicemail message. I followed up with an email, which they ignored. I sent two more emails before they finally responded, nearly three weeks after they took my iron from me. The broken part was a very straightforward problem requiring no diagnostics. Generating an estimate required no more than five minutes of Appliance Repair Express's time. If they weren't going to provide a timely estimate, they had an obligation to inform me of that before entering into a contract with me so that I could make an informed decision whether to do business with them or to go elsewhere. But that's not what they did. They led me to believe that they would provide a timely estimate, with no unreasonable delays. When Appliance Repair Express finally sent me an estimate, they told me that the part had to be obtained from France and that it would take several weeks to receive it. They also made clear that they would continue to slow-walk the repairs even once the part was received. That's when I turned to Rowenta for help. All I wanted from Appliance Repair Express and Rowenta is for them to expedite shipping of the replacement part so that my iron could be repaired without further unnecessary delays. But neither Appliance Repair Express nor Rowenta would do anything to help. They wouldn't expedite shipping of the replacement part or expedite the repairs once the part was received. They wouldn't send me the part so that I could repair the iron myself. Nor would they replace the iron--which clearly had a manufacturing defect, design defect, or both. Further, no one from either Appliance Repair Express or Rowenta ever apologized for the unreasonable and unnecessary delays. I suspect that Appliance Repair Express was deliberately slow-walking the estimate and repairs, in part, so that they could charge an extra "storage fee" for items left more than 30 days. Ultimately, Appliance Repair Express declined to repair my iron and shipped it back to me. I'm certain they spent more time and money shipping it back to me than it would have cost them to simply repair my iron and let me pick it up. read more
