One day we walked in our room and couldn't tell that it had been cleaned aside from making the bed. However, when we requested towels they came immediately. We needed a band aid and had to have security come. I thought that was thorough but the security guy was not very friendly. The bathrooms could use some updating but it did the job. Very great access to the beach. Was decent for traveling with family.

The only issue is I have to wake up at 5 o'clock in the morning to take my place and they open at seven and before seven most chairs are taken.The only issue I have with this place is the fact that there's not enough chairs around the pool. I wish I could get them at 4 1/2 star, but it's not able to. The location is fantastic is right on the water. If you wanna swim don't swim in that part of the beach go farther when you're looking at the ocean to the left of it because in front of this hotel, there's a lot of rocks that can hurt your feet. The beach restaurant is unbelievable specially if you wanna order food while you're sitting at the pool, everything was incredible. I had the Caesar salad the burger. The pokey was all incredible. So much history as shown throughout the resort especially on the second floor, but also the open Victorian architecture which presents a relaxing atmosphere. Our friends thought we were "rich" for being able to stay here but I don't recall the prices being too different than other hotels in the area. We also got a great offering through the American Express card. We arrived on island early afternoon and attempted to stay up as late as possible. However, we were given a room on the second floor of the historic side of the hotel where they host events on the patio area outside our room. While we were trying to sleep at 8-9pm, a festive wedding was going on with their DJ blasting music, people dancing, yelling, the DJ trying to motivate the audience, etc. It was not a fun night as my wife complained to the hotel staff about the noise interfering with our ability to sleep. It's not the fact the wedding was occuring, but rather the fact the hotel staff didn't let us know they were putting us next to the hotel night club of sorts. Hawaii is typically laid back and quiet, which this was not. The hotel staff sympathisized and mentioned the wedding would be finished by 10pm which it was, and tried to make things better. On day 3 around 4am, the hotel fire alarm sounded and advised everyone to vacate the building. When we vacated, we learned it was a false alarm. This was our last day at the Moana Surfrider which we assumed was a sign the resort wasn't meant to be a relaxing experience for us. The hotel has activities associated with the resort fee such as yoga, that we registered for. It was my first time doing yoga despite mention by my wife over the years to do it. I figured it would be a pleasant surprise for her if I signed us up, and it was a great class out on the same patio area as the wedding. I won't say it was fun for me, but it was an experience that we both enjoyed. The room itself was small which I assume is because it was part of the historic side of the hotel. There wasn't a balcony which we've come to appreciate especially in Hawaii to be able to go outside, view the water, and smell the air. Instead there was a window which we tried to orient ourselves in to get a picture of us with our welcome leis and Waikiki Beach in the background. Very challenging to appreciate a window as well as find space in the room to lay out two large suitcases without having to relocate furniture. The shower leaked water onto the bathroom floor as the cracks in the glass were not sealed so there was a constant wet towel on the floor. The bathroom in general didn't seem very modern considering the hotel had recently undergone years of modernization. Housekeeping was good and treated us well with towels and drinking water. I believe the Tower rooms of the hotel might be more modern and larger, as well as away from the event area of the hotel. I think we would look at other options in the future as we also spent a few days each during this trip at the Sheraton and The Royal Hawaiian which provided a much different experience in comparison.

What is really cool is the tree in the center of the village. There are restaurants and souvenir shops in the village. I came here for the Honolulu Cookie stores. The village is quite busy. It is a busy and pretty village. There is also the ABC store here. The village itself isn't big. Yes there are plenty of parking on site. There is a couple floor parkage at this village. If you are a tourist, I highly recommend coming here to check it out.

Let that be the baseline for the customer service you'll receive if you choose to stay at this hotel. We arrived in late July with our friend and two young kids. We get to our "ocean view" at the Rainbow Tower which we paid extra for only to find a gigantic tree blocking the view we believed we paid for. We called to the front desk and Annie very rudely dismissed us before telling us to come downstairs to prove that our view wasn't as the pictures showed when we booked it. She told us to head down to the Mail Drop line and when we got there we're told we were at the wrong place. We then argued with a manager (can't remember her name anymore) for I'd say a good hour. First, we were actually told the manager bounces between towers and wasn't at the Rainbow Tower which ended up being untrue as we saw her in the back when we came down and she ended up being the one to talk to us. We asked to be moved to a different room and we were told this very partial ocean view we got with the room we paid for titled "ocean view" was exactly what we paid for because if we wanted an ocean view we had to book "ocean front". Yet, if you book an ocean view room on their website or through Expedia, the view they advertise is a full ocean view. We definitely felt gaslit and like we were crazy for asking to be moved to a room we paid for. They finally agreed to move us to a "lagoon view" saying they didn't have any ocean front rooms because they're so busy that they're full 365 days of the year. (Meaning they don't really need our business, I'm guessing.) We were not happy with the lagoon view because we paid for an ocean view, but we ultimately had no choice but to concede and they said they would reimburse our resort fees. What's sad is that the employee knew how to work the system more than the manager. Also, another man came down with the same complaints as us, but no employees acknowledged him so he waved his hand, and stormed off. It's been over a month since this happened, and my friend who booked separately from us (who had the same issue) has yet to receive her reimbursement. They said they mailed the check and she never received it. She's been calling them and has received no reply. The elevator situation at the Rainbow Tower is also horrible. Supposedly, they're working out the kinks, but be prepared for long waits and very crowded elevators when you want to go anywhere. Another tip if you choose to stay here. Do NOT bother paying for the cabana at the Tapa pool. We did and no one walks you to the cabana. They tell you to open it up and set it up yourself after they hand you a few waters at the towel stand. There's no food or drink service, and you have to go to the bar next to it to get your food or drinks. It's also very isolated from anything fun. We booked 2 Casabellas at the Super Pool the next day. They were cheaper and MUCH better. They had food and drink service and the server was awesome and the towel desk takes you to them and opens them up for you. Cabanas are a bust and a total waste of money. Overall, the customer service at this hotel is awful and I can only assume it's because they don't need our business since they're full 365 days a year... as they informed us. The nice thing about the hotel is that it has shops and restaurants attached, but it's extremely crowded. Do yourself a favor and book elsewhere.

Even if I had spoken with a different person, they kept impeccable notes and went above and beyond to help us. I am beyond grateful that even though we had to deal with craziness of the hurricane, this hotel was the bright spot in our day. Cleanliness was also good. Out of the 3 rooms we had, I only called housekeeping once for a minor pillowcase and sheet change which they did immediately and apologized for. I recommend this hotel to all and look forward to staying here for pleasure in the future too.

The burger came with about a 3 oz patty, and the fries were as hard as a rock. For the $24 we paid, we probably got a $6 fast food combo meal. We also ordered a Caesar salad - that was a single romaine heart, split lengthwise, with 4 small shavings of Parmesan cheese and a tablespoon of bottled Caesar dressing; $24 too! Soft drinks were $8 each. I know hotel resort poolside food is expensive but I did expect something a little better. The best thing is the valet parking service; very fast and efficient since they always have about 6 valets working all the time. But be advised that this service is not cheap - $52 per day with a $5 tip each in/out trip!

I mentioned to Caren that this was a special birthday trip for me, and she truly went above and beyond to make sure my stay felt special. Caren took the time to look into different options and was able to find me an upgrade at a very reasonable price with a MUCH better view -- and I am absolutely blown away! The view is breathtaking, and I genuinely cannot stop looking at it. It completely changed the experience for me and made my birthday stay feel that much more special. On top of that, Caren even gave me a sweet birthday welcome gift since they were out of the chocolates they normally provide. It was such a thoughtful gesture and really showed how much she cared about making sure I felt welcomed and celebrated. I truly appreciate all of the time, effort, and kindness Caren showed me. She turned what could have been a small disappointment into such a positive experience and made sure my stay started off as a 10/10. Customer service like this makes such a difference, especially when you're celebrating a milestone birthday away from home. The room also had numerous scuffs, patched walls and signs of deferred maintenance throughout. The location and staff saved the stay, but the condition of the room fell well below the standard I'd expect from this brand, especially at this price point.

As many mention, the property itself is pristine--calm, spotless rooms, excellent toilets, and comfortably sized showers and tubs. The nightly turndown treats from housekeeping (ranging from chapstick to custom coasters) were a delightful detail we looked forward to each evening. Breakfast was included and decent, though it skews heavily toward traditional Japanese options. As a pregnant guest, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of basics like oatmeal, and the requested toast turned out to be basic white bread. We encountered some exceptional team members. Donna at the front desk was wonderfully warm, remembering my son's name from our second day. A lovely woman at the pool with very long hair and a gentleman who plays in a band were also fantastic--he consistently helped us set up cabanas so I could stay out of the direct sun. Unfortunately, two major issues significantly impacted our stay: * Unprofessional Pool Management: The pool manager (who did not wear a nametag) was surprisingly rude. After another attendant helped us secure a shaded cabana the day prior to ensure I had sun protection while watching my son play, the manager confronted me about "saving" cabanas. Considering the hotel was not full, the aggressive tone taken with a heavily pregnant guest was completely unwarranted and unlike anything I've experienced at a property of this tier. * Misleading Beachfront Experience: The hotel advertises itself as a beachfront resort, but the accessible beach area is extremely minimal with choppy water. Between the lack of loungers or shade and the large Mai Tai catamarans constantly docking right next door, swimming isn't practical, nor is relaxing on the sand if you need sun relief. We truly wanted to love our stay, but given the premium price point, the combination of poor beach access and an unnecessarily hostile interaction at the pool left us thoroughly disappointed.

We met her at check in also. All the staff are pretty helpful and nice. The rooms are so comfortable and the kitchenette is not the normal "kitchenette". The stove has 2 hot plates- no oven. A microwave. The dishware and cutlery. Subzero mini fridge & freezer. Breville toaster & blender. Zoriushi rice pot. Nespresso make and pods. The knives are German made Zwilling. Impressive. The sofa bed was comfortable - the mattress was like a memory foam type?! Or it felt like it. The gym has dumbbells up to 75#, yoga mats, medicine balls, kettlebell, cardio machines- bike- treadmill- elliptical and even a peleton too, they have circuit training cables and machines. Even filtered water, cold towels, fruits and towels to use. The infinity pool and hot tub were a joy. They offer towel service, lounge chairs, drink service, and complementary smoothie and ice cream with toppings (caramel, chocolate, and sprinkles) The business center or library has computers (good speed too), phone charger, printer and couch with additional chairs. We also used our American Express Platinum Hotel Credit benefit, and it was great that this hotel qualified for it. Ka Laʻi is one block from the beach, backing up to Fort DeRussy Park, a military reservation, and is surrounded by many shops and restaurants, especially along Luxury Row, which is a non-negotiable visit for us. There is so much aloha felt here, with the staff always greeting us with genuine smiles and a willingness to help. The hotel is quiet and soothing, perfect for a relaxing stay. We checked in seamlessly and were provided with cold, refreshing water upon our arrival. Our room was spacious and felt very cozy, with beige carpet and tile flooring, brown furniture, and dark cabinetry in the kitchen. In the seating area, there was a large full-size sofa, an upholstered side chair, and a coffee table. The long dresser and closet provided plenty of storage. A lovely welcome treat was left in our room: two Ka Laʻi reusable water bottles, Hawaiian semi-sweet chocolate, and Beach Brittle. These items were a very nice touch. If you feel inclined to enjoy more Beach Brittle, you can purchase it downstairs in the small shop next to the spa. The bathroom had a double-sink vanity with plenty of counter space, which is a must for me, a large soaking tub, and a wet shower area. It was a generously sized bathroom with plenty of room to move around. Our stay included a wonderful breakfast buffet at Inyō. There was an omelet station with a chef preparing made-to-order omelets, along with a variety of beautiful fresh fruit, hot and cold breakfast items, rice, and Asian-inspired bites. The infinity pool is located near the restaurant, Inyō. It's tiled in a beautiful blue that adds a nice contrast to the tan backdrop of the neighboring high-rise buildings. The pool is long and narrow, accented by a series of raised, tiled planter islands that provide a bit of privacy between guests. We were too busy to swim or enjoy the other amenities, but just walking around the grounds was incredibly relaxing. It's a very peaceful place to stay, unlike many of the larger hotel brands. The standout at this hotel was definitely the service. The staff always made eye contact, greeted us warmly, and either asked about or anticipated our needs.
