Simple review here. This spot makes some great sushi. It's not too large inside, so call ahead or get there early on weekends. Def explore more of the menu too, as it's a bit deeper than your average sushi spot. Feeling adventurous? Get the Arata Style Sushi, which is DELICIOUS (comes with five pieces of chef's selection of contemporary sushi. Basically a small omakase.). I thought long and hard about dropping $60-80 on a few more rounds and just going sushi HAM, but I held back. Food for thought though. My only warning at AS is for the Yellowtail Sashimi Jalapeño (with cilantro and yuzu soy sauce, $11.95), which has to be the most ridiculous item on the menu. You get 6 slivers of yellowtail with a slice of jalapeño each. You're better off just getting 4 pieces of Yellowtail sushi and asking for yuzu sauce on the side. read more

If you love sushi, this is the place to go on Long Island. In my opinion, there are a number of "good" sushi restaurants to go to, no doubt- but Arata far beats any of them- trust me! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The restaurant is small and quite busy, for that reason I would recommend making a reservation if you can. read more

Only been here a few times and have had a good experience. I have only had the 10 piece special which is always so delicious. Although it is a bit costly at $40 for the 10 pieces, each piece was so well made and delicious. Definitely not as good as it's predecessor, Tsubo. The food doesn't taste as good nor does the atmosphere feel even remotely Asian. It feels like a Asian fusion restaurant without actually being one. It's not terrible, but it just isn't the same. I don't know, maybe they're trying to cater to a larger crowd, more diverse crowd. read more

I have had this place bookmarked for quite awhile due to the positive reviews and finally gave it a shot. I got takeout for myself so I haven't gotten to try a lot from Arata yet, but from what I did try, the food is delicious! I ordered a spicy scallop roll and an avocado salad. The roll was fresh and delicious. The taste was just what I was hoping for in a spicy scallop roll. The salad was also good with a different twist on the usual plain ginger dressing that you usually get at sushi restaurants. First of all, the appetizers were great - really above most places. The quality of the tuna used for the appetizers was great. We had the Tuna Poke (my fave), and miso eggplant, and another raw tuna dish served with toasted rice cubes and toasted seaweed - also very unique and delicious. With high hopes we ordered the tuna avo roll, yellowtail jalepeno roll a special roll - the American something or other - it had mango in it. The rolls were not good. The tuna used in the tuna avo roll was not red, but rather tinged with grey. Furthermore, it was mushy. Perhaps it had been frozen - idk. In any case we could not get it down. The yellowtail jalepeno roll was decent. The special roll was ok but was almost $15 and had no texture/flavor besides mushy sweetness. Mb Wed isn't a good night for them, but I felt I had wasted my $ on all three rolls. I would recommend this place for drinks and apps but that's all. I am so glad I didn't order a spicy tuna roll bc I can't imagine how poor the quality of fish must be in their spicy rolls - where flavor can be disguised easily. I didn't hate the place, don't get me wrong, but I certainly wouldn't order a raw roll from here again and would not go out of my way to eat here again. I came here for my co workers bday lunch. It's an intimate setting, they automatically gave us water with lemon. I usually have to request lemon. I ordered the rib eye bento box. The miso soup was good, small pieces of seaweed n tofu instead of large chunks which I don't like. The flavor was good too. The salad was fresh but I didn't care for the dressing, it wasn't the typical sweet ginger it more tasted like soy sauce a salty flavor. The steak was so good and the vegetables were cooked well and seasoned good, they also had cabbage in it which isn't typical. I asked for eel sauce on my California roll it was so good. I tried the arata sushi special, which was ten unique pieces of sushi not found on the menu. The flavors of each one were so unique and special. Just love this hidden gem! Was not expecting much when arriving at the restaurant. from the outside it is very small and unassuming. From the inside nothing special. Surprisingly Food is as good or better than most of the big guys here on Long Island! From the creative menu of rolls to the standard sushi sashimi dishes the quality and presentation is tip top. I love their omakase and the price is so reasonable! The pieces all melt in your mouth and I love their unique style. Their omakase is more of a modern style with different ingredients served on top. Our go to here is the 10 Piece Arata Style sushi as an entree and the crispy kale spicy tuna as an app. It's a good value for $40, you get some creative places for the price. I would say, the approach is less about the fish as the star and more about the flavors they're trying to accomplish. It's still very good. But the fish gets lost underneath the toppings though. Whereas other modern sushi restaurants we enjoy more tend to compliment the fish versus overshadowing it. Arata is, hands down, the best sushi in New York. Newsday recently named them #2 but having eaten at all the top places, the quality of food at Arata is the best. It is a small, simple restaurant. Definitely not the trendy look and feel of some other places. The special rolls are fantastic. Jimmy makes several (and can make any) with soy paper instead of seaweed wrap. Try it. It's a whole other taste. Add extra tempura flakes to the rolls that don't already have it, and the textures are amazing. I come regularly with a friend from Mt. Great Sushi restaurant! Went here with friends for dinner after work and we pretty much did a family style meal. We ordered the fries and gyoza to start. Both were super tasty and came really quickly. We then ordered the Daniella roll, the traditional pro roll and the Arata roll. All were excellent. It helped that my friend frequents this place often, so the staff was extra friendly and made sure we were very comfortable and happy with our meal. My favorite was the traditional Pro only because I'm not a huge sushi fan... but all the rolls were delish. I would eat any of them again and am excited to try more things on the menu!
