No two flavors are alike! My sis and I really enjoy their food selection because the sauces paired with every dish are unique and don't taste the same from one plate to the next. They have a huge assortment of sushi and sashimi and maki rolls meals and they're very good about no cross contamination for those of us with allergies. They were open this Xmas (2024) and we dined here to celebrate. The manager was on site and greeted all of her guests. Our server was exceptional too! They definitely live up to their name: MoCA (Modern smthg smthg ). The dining areas and bar are modern and have a nice decor. Everything was clean and the restaurant is nearly always bustling. Beautifully decorated inside, very good food and great service. This was my first time here and I would definitely recommend. My friend ordered the Jasmine cocktail. I took a sip and it was quite nice and well balanced. It was also very pretty. We both didn't order anything too interesting but they were good barometer for the overall quality of the food. Apart from the chicken in my Pad Thai, which didn't taste especially fresh, I thought it was quite yummy. Nicely cooked and well seasoned. Overall it was a positive experience. If you're looking for solid Asian food, with a beautiful ambiance, this is the place. It's really so pretty and the service was great. I would come back and try something different. read more

This was our second time at the Woodbury location, and unfortunately, it didn't live up to the high standards set by our first visit. Our initial experience was nothing short of immaculate. The dishes were delicious, the vibe was fantastic, and we thoroughly enjoyed the fixed menu with shareable plates, which made for a memorable celebration. This time, however, we ordered apps and entrées directly from the menu, and the experience fell flat. The food was hit or miss. The basil prawns were underwhelming--lacking in flavor and overall quite "mid." On the other hand, the yellowtail sushi was a standout favorite, and the dumplings were good as well. What really soured the evening was the service. We were a large party of about 11 people, but the lack of attention was glaring. Thirty minutes into being seated, we had to track someone down just to take our orders because the waitress didn't realize our party was already complete. No water was provided until we specifically asked for it, and drinks took far too long to arrive. While our first visit left such a positive impression, this experience fell short in many areas. For this reason, I wouldn't go out of my way to return. A restaurant should be able to maintain consistency, especially when expectations have been set so high. read more

I'm an avid sushi lover and always like trying new places. This was my first time at MoCA. The ambience and decor were nice. I love the design of the seating area and bar. Booths were super spacious and comfortable. My husband and I ordered 2 appetizers (Mini Rolls and Indian Pancakes) and 2 specialty rolls (American Dream Roll and Baja Roll). Everything was delicious, just wish the rolls were a little bigger. Definitely on the smaller side compared to tons of other sushi restaurants I've been too. Honestly, we were still hungry after that. So order more than you think. We were going to order the Mille (Green Tea) Crêpe Cake but they ran out for the night. Looked really promising though. For cocktails I first ordered a margarita and I feel bad saying this but, it was one of the worst margaritas I've ever had and my husband agreed. It didn't taste anything like a margarita, and it was sour and just weird. However, the waitress was nice enough to switch out my drink and I ended up ordering a Jalapeño Mango Martini instead, which was delicious. My husband and I went to Moca tonight and it was an awful experience. We were sat at a table with deteriorating booth seats and then were ignored. For 25 minutes. Like no one took our drink order, nothing. My husband tried to get the attention of the waitstaff without any luck. Then we saw a different table (sat maybe 10 min after us) get their drink order taken. So we decided to leave - the host just said "have a nice night" (the same host that sat us less than a half an hour earlier). The total for all of this was $102, but the girl gave me the 20% off take out coupon. So the bill was $88.65 total. The Baja roll tastes like guacamole. it only had 5 pieces. The yellowtail roll was ok. kind of tasteless. The Lions Dance was really good. the ribs were really yummy. $22 for 8 very tiny ribs (nubs)The shrimp pad, Thai was extremely dry and tasteless- This was the most disappointing. i would not go back. read more

Had a really nice dinner here with my friends. The restaurant was beautiful, a little confusing because we had like two servers but the service was very good. We had lobster tacos to start, which were good, and a couple of sushi rolls which were enjoyable (see pics). For dinner we all split a few dishes-- the yellow curry seafood which was very good and the sangria duck. The sangria duck was excellent, but it had A LOT of quills on the skin. Kindve gross to look at, and annoying the duck was not cleaned properly, but nonetheless, the dish was very tasty. We all thoroughly enjoyed our drinks. I really loved the mocanut which is like a coconut flavored rum drink. Skip the lychee martini- not good. Very bitter and my friends tried some and said the same. For dessert we had the chocolate caramel soufflé which was topped with ice cream and a nice way to round out the night. I would def come back to try other dishes. read more

This review has taken me a while to write because I'm so disappointed in our experience but thought it worth sharing. First, this is the place my husband and I spend almost every anniversary and special occasion at. We love the food, ambiance, service, etc. This time was wayyyy different and it's most likely our last time there. We went on January 2nd, NYE observed, to bring in the New Year. We had a 5:30 reservation, we like to go early to avoid crowds and get home early. We were greeted by a gentleman we've never seen before (new management??) and seated up front under bright lights and told the heat was out, it was not a warm night. Nobody else was seated up there, just us. I don't remember our candle being lit. We ordered drinks and our favorite appetizer, the Crispy Toro. It came out a bit different, perhaps a bit mushy and just not as consistent as in the past. My husband got some hand rolls and I ordered Pad Thai, those were good. Dessert was the worst part. We ordered Creme Brûlée, one of our favorite things. It came out with zero garnish, and whoever torched the sugar warmed the entire dessert and didn't even get a good layer of sugar on top, it was not even edible. All in all it was a disappointment to have such a bad experience at probably our favorite place. We're moving south in the Spring, I doubt we'll be back. Not to mention it was definitely not a cheap meal. Hopefully they just had an off night. read more

Came here on a whim last night, as I'm unfortunately not a fan of any of the "sushi" in our area. The food was delicious - nothing to complain about here. Everything was presented nicely and the flavors and freshness were on point. My issue was; it took a while for our food although there were only 2 other sets of diners in the restaurant. And the prices, I get it's Woodbury, but my husband and I eat sushi very frequently, and it was a little surprising how all the rolls and sashimi/sushi were almost double what we pay in the city. Because of the inflated prices, we don't think we'll be back again. read more

Dined out here with a group of 6 on a Tuesday night. We sat outside under their tent as indoor seating was not an option. Their bar wasn't open either, so therefore happy hour offerings weren't a thing either as offerings are only offered at the bar. Some sales weren't available either as they didn't have them. There were other things on the menu that they didn't have. Not sure what this included though. I just heard a friend try and order something and our waitress stated that they "didn't have it today." To start I shared shrimp dumplings and seaweed with my mom. Shrimp dumplings were full of flavor. Seaweed salad had decent flavor. Other appetizers that were ordered at the table were spring rolls, scallion pancake, sashimi salad and tempura veggies. Appetizers took quite a while to come out. For sushi rolls I ordered a salmon avocado roll and the tiger roll. I asked for it to be made with brown rice. My mom ordered the MocA Roll and the paradise roll. Both rolls had good flavor. When someone at my table asked our sever if they offered black rice, our server stated only white and brown rice. When my rolls came out, they had black rice. Our sever wasn't overly knowledgeable about the menu or the restaurant offerings. Other things ordered at the table included duck, pineapple fried rice, picture roll, out of control roll, and shrimp tempura roll. The pineapple fried rice was fabulous. Amazing fresh flavors. When our entrees were served, only 4/6 came out and it took a while for the the other two entrees to come out. One of them finally came out and someone else at my table was still waiting for her sushi roll. She continued to wait...and wait. Finally our waitress came over and told her that someone ate her roll!!!! And she laughed about it. She told her that it's being remade and will come out soon. It finally did come out, and her plate was chipped.... Someone at my table wanted to use her rewards card that they offer. The waitress stated she didn't know how to do it for her. Are you kidding me?! This place is amazing. The waitress we had was so sweet and told my boyfriend and I to try the the king crab / spicy Tuna roll and it was delicious. I had the chicken pad Thai and it was AMAZING! We also had the lychee martinis and it's on my list when we go back - they are strong and tasty! This is one of my favorite spots. The crispy truffle toro is phenomenal, and they have a great lunch special. For the spring, they have a 5 piece nigiri special which is LITERALLY the best sushi I've ever had in my life. The salmon piece melts in your mouth I could eat 20 of them. Food is absolutely delicious. My family and I enjoyed the atmosphere and service. We have dined here three times back in February 2023 when I found this place on YELP. I am happy we did. Authentic Chinese dishes are being served so I dont have to drive all the way to flushing. The pricing is $$$. The atmosphere is romantic with dim lighting in luxury style booth seating with curtains that can be pulled for privacy. Dining was a pleasure. Our waiter was fantastic and attentive. The manager checked in on us which is always nice. The drinks were awesome. The food was great! My new favorite roll is the MoCA Roll. So delicious and my husband even liked it and he is not a fan of sushi. Since finding this place I dine in at least twice per month and I even order take out from time to time when heading to work. First time here and is now our new fave. Lovely ambience with beautiful decor. The layout was spacious with many comfortable tables for 2. Our server Linda was excellent and patiently helped us navigate the great menu. The food and cocktails were all yummy... we had the Kumamoto oysters ( fresh and on ice), the Korean short ribs, mini Lobster tacos and chopped Toro belly on crispy pieces of rice. When you walk into this restaurant the ambiance is beautiful. We were welcomed and seated right away since we had a reservation. I liked that they didn't rush us at all. They took our drink order first and gave us some time to figure out which app and entree we wanted. Every few minutes someone would check in on us or if they brought another dish out they would make sure the previous items were good. Everything we ordered came out delicious! I will point out that when we were finished they didn't bring out the check right away. They waited for us to ask for it which I felt was done out of respect so that we didn't feel pressured to leave. Asian bistros usually equals mediocre fusion fare but MoCA doesn't fall into that trap. The decor here is elegant but casual and dining here is a fun and comfortable experience. The menu is typical Asian bistro - sushi, Chinese fare as well as the occasional Southeast Asian inspired dishes. The food we ordered was excellent - the crispy rice (perfectly balanced between spicy tuna and crispy rice and avocado), sushi and sashimi (fresh cuts of fish) and General Tso's chicken (tangy and spicy). My only negative take was their desserts - woefully bad but it's not the reason you go (caramel chocolate cake was a flavorless brick). Service was good and prices are about what you expect. Well-decorated environment with good sushi. The interior was super nice aesthetically, definitely picking up some design inspo from here! I ate here with family for lunch on a Sunday and there was only one other table dining that day. I got the sushi pizza and grilled teriyaki sea bass for appetizers. Sushi pizza was tasteless, but the sea bass was super tender, highly recommend that. Got a couple rolls including the dragon roll and the sweet heart roll, but $28 for a roll... really? The sushi was average based on other sushi places I've been to. Not worth the money in my opinion. Presentation was nice though. Also, $9 for 6 fried Oreos?? Come on now, they are literally Oreos. Gorgeous ambiance and decor. The sashimi was also brought out and displayed quite enticing! I was in the mood for sushi (as always) and then my date magically found a sushi restaurant that was local enough that I HAVE NOT gone too! My mind was blown! Very happy with the dinner, the ambiance and the service overall. The fish is fresh and the menu had many options to choose from. Love when there's unique rolls and dishes I haven't had before. Many of the appetizers were added on my list of must try!There's a cooked roll section which is perfect for my father who has restrictions on raw food or heavily processed. We walked out of Sage Bistro restaurant because there was no Covid 19 Pandemic safety in the restaurant to find another place to eat. We walked in and didn't have a reservation, but got seated without waiting in a luxurious setting spacious layout and tasteful glass separations between tables. The 6 of us ordered from the restaurant week menu, food arrived in a timely manner, was heat hot, very tasty and the wait staff was attentive. This is a high end restaurant with well prepared, tasty, fresh dishes but pricy. It was worth trying this place during restaurant week. read more

A huge disappointment. Seven of us went to dinner, and ordered a variety of items . . . some sushi, some Chinese, some Thai, some Mongolian, and steak. The Mongolian and Thai dishes, which were denoted on the menu with a Hot Pepper, arrived cooked completely absent any hot spice. When we asked the waitress she said they never make the dishes spicy, but she could bring some chili sauce. Really? Thai food, and indicated on the menu as spicy, but they never make it spicy? The filet mignon, which was ordered "medium rare," was served well-done, and cold. And to add insult to injury, the waitress couldn't have cared less. The manager reduced our bill from $320 to $260, which was certainly appreciated but it didn't change the fact that the food was substandard and the waitress was apathetic. read more

MoCA Asian Bistro is part of a small group of restaurants on Long island and Queens which were among the first to latch onto the "Asian Fusion " concept locally. It is one of the restaurants in the Woodbury Commons Shopping Center. I hosted a dinner for 6 there on Tuesday, July 28th. Park in the lot as I did. Upon arrival, I noticed that the restaurant had a large canopy to facilitate outdoor dining. I did not notice a six top among the table set up. A very pleasant young Asian lady took it upon herself and her colleague to rectify that, moving a table for two to a table for four. So we were able to dine outside and I was thankful for the young lady's gracious gesture. My fellow diners arrived on time and the young lady took our orders promptly.......and proceeded to disappear. There was no "check back'. It was difficult to track down her and other employees when we needed something. As another reviewer present also commented, the kitchen was rather slow and two out of our six entrees did not arrive until much later. At least one of those entrees was brought to the wrong table. When the dishes arrived, the then male server looked puzzled and did not know who ordered what. So service left a lot to be desired. I assign the blame to the restaurant for that because our servers, the young lady included, appeared to be working hard. The restaurant was simply understaffed. Moreover, the menu online does not conform to the actual menu, most likely an effect of COVID-19. The menu was somewhat abbreviated and certain items were not available. In contrast to the service, the food was good here. My Salmon Sushi app was fresh and tasty......but I had to request Soy Sauce. which was not brought with the Sushi. A first. My half Peking Duck was flavorful, grease-less and not overly fatty. I particularly enjoyed the puffy "slider buns". I sampled the Pineapple Fried Rice and the Tempura Vegetables and enjoyed both. My fellow diners enjoyed the Tuna Tartare, Spring Rolls, Shrimp Dumplings, Seaweed Salad and the many assorted Sushi Rolls. BOTTOM LINE: I would be tempted to call our experience a bad night for a restaurant with good food but had I the same experience of the disappearing server when I attended a group dinner in the winter which I failed to review. Surely a pioneer in the Asian Fusion genre can up its service game. I'm not writing off MoCA Asian Fusion and you should try it for yourself. read more

Kobe beef roll was dry , had the crispy toro appetizer which looked like it was soaked in Mayo. (Forgot to take a picture but it was diff from the other yelper) I feel like you can go somewhere wayyy cheaper for this quality of food. Very disappointing. Amazing ambiance from the get-go! Loved how elegant the inside is and the privacy (booths with curtains) is unbeatable! Our server Yvonne was so accommodating to my friends' gluten allergy!! Came here with my girlfriends and we all loved enjoyed everything that we came here for! We first got a round of their specialty cocktails and settled down with the shrimp shumai, the duck tortilla, sea salt tuna, and yellowtail jalapeño. We then ordered a bunch of sushi entrees and they also made sure to get us gluten free soy sauce. One thing about the food, however, was that I wanted to order the pan seared tuna with soba noodles, but they were out of the noodles.
