Cute idea to have chairs in the wait area that fold up in the wall when not in use.

We had dessert here. Nice and spacious place to relax. We enjoyed the coffee & chocolate gelato which was served with two round scoops with a little chocolate syrup drizzle and accompanied with a pizzelle cookie. Unfortunately half the cookie fell on the floor as soon as we tried to break it apart because it was thick and hard. Our server took the part that fell on the floor from me but didn't offer us another one. Oh well. The ice cream and was good. The chocolate torte was not quite what we expected. It was shaped in a triangular wedge as expected but it was soft, almost like a firm mousse. It was served with some cream foam. We had a cold ice latte which was good. We also had the smallest glass of iced tea they was mostly ice. We should come back sometime to have a meal. Hopefully the food will be good. It is indeed a nice place. Prices are on the higher side. We paid almost $50 for our desserts, the tea and latte including all the taxes and tip.

Came here on a Thursday night around 6 no reservations. There was a couple seats inside left and only one guy running around. We waited a few minutes to sit and order. He was super nice and we felt so bad because it seemed like he was working the front by himself and it started to get crowded. I got the tagliatelle and it was pretty good but not my favorite. My friend got the rigatoni and it definitely wasn't my favorite pasta I've eaten. I've been wanting to try this place for so long but maybe my anticipation was too high. I probably wouldn't come here again or recommend it compared to other places on Fillmore but maybe we ordered the wrong things? Haha

Ambiance is great. We sung by for a quick coffee before a late night movie. Needed help staying awake. The honey lavender latte was pretty good!!

Everything was divine! We recently moved down from a place that has amazing Italian food so the bar was high. From the incredibly personally tailored experience the staff made for us to the actual food, it was simply fantastic. The owner was there supporting his Team ensuring everyone was delivering on what they needed to but in a supportive and caring way. The environment was also a great place to spend some time from the curated music to the colors and mood of the restaurant, it was a great place to take my other half on a date. We did the Chef's Counter, and that just elevated the experience. My other half had an amazing dessert, I had a great latte, and we both left full of love and happy belly's. Highly recommend this place!

Everything was good except the food. The vibe of the restaurant, the seating arrangements at the chef's counter where you can watch them cook, and the hospitality were amazing! However, I just couldn't justify this experience for a dinner for 2 for $150+. The pasta pie's meatball had a tofu like texture, more like cooked pate than an actual hearty meatball. For the pasta, the sauce tasted sweet, but not in a good way. But the kicker for me was probably some of the worst short rib I've had. I ate barely half of my portion before I packed it up to go (just to try to convince myself I'll eat it later, but 3 days after as I'm writing this review I've still avoided it in my fridge). The short rib was tender, but somehow still dry. The wine sauce was sour / acidic. I really wanted to like it but I couldn't. Mattina is a good restaurant on the inside, however unfortunately fails to deliver on the food. As always make your own judgements!

I came to Mattina for dinner with two of my girl friends - they have a "Ladies Night" menu on Tuesday which is so cute! The deal is a spritz and flatbread (3 options) for $22. Since there were three of us, we tried each of the flatbreads. I liked the mushroom and prosciutto ones. I would not recommend the cauliflower caesar salad one - it sounded interesting, but it was so hard to eat because the lettuce was so big (not sure why they didn't chop it up some more), and there was also no sauce so ate really dry. We were still hungry, so ordered the Lumache pasta which was really good! I loved the creamy sauce. I loved the ambiance, it got super lively after 7ish and it was completely packed on Tuesday night! Overall a solid spot for a nice dinner with friends or a date night!

AMAZING. So happy to have found this place. I ordered the Lumache - gluten free (any pasta can be made gluten free they said) and oh my god! It was so delicious. The sauce, the crunchiness, the ricotta. I think about this pasta for a long time. We also ordered the (tagliatelle) mushroom pasta which was also pretty great! Loved the service and the retro theme. Excited to come back.

Enjoyed everything we had here for dinner. We had made a reservation through Resy, but the restaurant was really quiet on a Saturday night between 5:30 to 630 Started the meal with a wonderful glass of Sangiovese. The server recommended their new Piadina which was a thin but fluffy milk, bun bread with crisp edges and a sliver of cheese and mashed potato inside. It was delightful. It seems that they changed their menu pretty frequently since she said it was their first night serving it. We also had a beets and octopus small plates came with small chopped slivers of octopus yellow beets, along with the red cabbage side that was cooked and pickled. Both were delicious. We had a hard time deciding which pass again since they all seemed intriguing, the one we ended up getting was the maltagliati which was amazing with oat pasta and beer braised chicken . It was flavorful and addictive without being too heavy of a dish. Service could've been a little more attentive for it being relatively empty most of the time we were there, but otherwise we really enjoyed everything that we eat in the restaurant was chic and beautiful. They were very kind and bringing our kids old menus to color on .

We were a large group that came and they were able to accommodate us in the main room. Definitely a neighborhood restaurant vibe. Server's recommendation was to get a bunch of different pasta dishes and share it since each item on the menu is portioned for one. Best dishes of the night: - arancini - beet & octopus - tagliatelle Acquired taste: - canederli Honorable Mention: - arugula & apple salad The canederli was delicious but I know for certain individuals in my group they didn't enjoy the idea of thanksgiving in a dumpling which was exactly what it tasted like. The arugula & apple salad was a refreshing start to the meal with a lot of textures. Would love to come back here and try their other dishes.

Solid 4 stars for Mattina, we messed up and didn't order protein. We also forgot to say we wanted the food coursed so it all cane out fast. One right after the next so wasn't as enjoyable for 2 people sharing everything. 2 pastas are not pictured one was very good, the ravioli! And the other was bland & boring it was a chunky shell pasta with red sauce. Despite some mishaps I did enjoy the food here! The server and front staff were nice, & the perfect amount of chatty. The ambience was boring & generic with some fun comfy chairs that felt like they should be on a patio. Overall I liked but doubt I will return.

Went for a birthday dinner. They have a nice selection of pasta and drinks. I had the Arancini. Sorry but looked like little turds. The rice was just ok, needed more flavor. Then the Mafaldine pasta made of spinach with "bolognese deluxe". It was tasty, a little salty but still good. What I didn't like: The door. It was freezing and I don't know how many times I had to paise my meal and stand up to close the door. They have to fix it or put something between the tables and the door to stop the cold from outside. The Tiramisù. This is an American version. It had sea salt. Really? First time in my life I had this dessert with sea salt. Terrible. A botton layer of hard chocolate which was unexpected. Didn't mind but the cookie under that chocolate had also salt. I don't like salt in desserts. Then the mascarpone cream. It wasn't mascarpone. Tasted like vanilla pudding. Super sweet dessert. I can say it was the worst Tiramisù I had in my life. If you're going to play with this is totally fine, but you have to put on the menu it is an American twist. Service was slow but on was a Saturday night. The restroom was clean and pretty with that flower wallpaper. Liked the soap. Sorry but this place is not for me. Adding one star because the servers were nice and they had my favorite italian aranciata.

My friend and I came here for brunch, and it was OK. We both ordered the "frittata" but what came was actually a quiche! We also got the biscuit with butter and jam, which we both liked. The service was a bit slow despite the fact that the restaurant was relatively quiet. The restaurant is cute though and I'd try coming back for a dinner!

Came here for their neighborhood nights special menu which includes a bruschetta, main, and dessert for $45 per person. The ambiance is cute and cozy with a nice neighborhood cafe vibe. For bruschetta we got the ricotta & mushroom and pea & mint w/horseradish toasts. The bruschettas were both good but I found the mushroom one to be a bit too salty and acidic and preferred the light and herby pea & mint bruschetta. We shared the pappardelle and tagliatelle for mains and I really like the tagliatelle with marsala mushrooms and lot of parm. The pappardelle was good as well and I enjoyed the lamb cheek but just wished there was more protein. Dessert was a yummy semifreddo strawberry pie. Overall the pastas were yummy but I thought the flavors lacked depth and with so many great Italian spots in the city, I would probably go elsewhere for Italian. I also thought the pasta itself was a bit overcooked. The neighborhood nights marketing is fun but really it's not a great deal given the usual prices of the dishes. If I came back again I would just order a la carte.

A bit more communication or accommodation would've been appreciated especially for a restaurant at this price point. that being said the standout crudo was the halibut aguachile. I think this was so fresh and the flavor combination is so unique with the sweetness of the stone fruit and the textures from the avocado and the hominy. the amberjack was also delicious too! it had a brightness from the citrus with the watermelon that stepped the dish up to the next level. the pastas were amazing! every pasta was cooked amazingly well and had an incredible bite you'd really only have with freshly made pasta. the orecchiette pesto was bright, not too oily and definitely surprised me as my favorite. the mafaldine cacio e pepe was a close second. the richness from the egg and spiciness of the fresh cracked black pepper was super, not to mention the pasta shape was so whimsical overall the food was spectacular. the dining experience leaves some to be desired. maybe not the best for large parties but for a date night or small party, this place could be a great choice

Amelia recommended one pasta dish per person in the party, to share family style (which ended up working well for us, since we also got three appetizers, and finished the meal with a small amount of yummy leftovers for tomorrow) so that's what we did, along with the starters... We got the "big juicy meatballs with tomato and pancetta," which were incredible; the bread was delicious and certainly is not just a side to the amazing (definitely juicy) herbed tender meatballs. I'd definitely get this again, along with the grilled zucchini with worm salt and mint, which was so flavorful and tasty. We also got the smokey romano beans with fire roasted tomato, which was also really good but just keep in mind the emphasis on the smokey flavor! It wasn't my cup of tea but that's for sure a personal thing. For pastas, I'd rank them in this order: 1. our favorite was today's lasagna du jour, which was mushroom! So delicious, with a crispy cheesy crust, soft tender interior, and an almost caramelized tomato sauce accompanying. 2. Reginette with pork sugo (meat sauce) and spicy turnip greens was next, which had wonderful flavor with the tomato-based sauce and pieces of pork but if you like it slightly softer texture it might not be for you (same with the fusilli; the go-to preparation is aldente!). 3. Fusilli alla vodka with tomato, calabrian chili, cream, basil, and added garlic butter shrimps; this one's sauce felt a little underwhelming and more watery than creamy, and I'm just now realizing that although the menu said four garlic butter shrimp (an extra $7), we only got three. I think I'd come back for the lasagna and/or to buy the pasta from their expansive stock, cook it a bit longer, and serve it covered in a decadent creamy sauce.

He even replaced my water and apologized after realizing he poured it to the brim, which really wasn't an issue but I appreciated his correction anyway. We ordered the side of wood grilled corn to start, I ordered the malfadine al limone pasta and my boyfriend ordered the spaghetti pomodoro. The wood grilled corn had a nice char to it and we enjoyed the accompanying sauce and cheese on top; however, based on the menu description I was expecting a little more of a Calabrian chili flavor / kick. The pomodoro was good but nothing to write home about, and the malfadine was a bit of a surprise / the highlight! I enjoyed the curly pasta texture and loved the lightness of the sauce paired with the salt flavor and complexity of the salmon roe on top. We love a good dessert but nothing caught our eye on the menu this time, as we don't prefer the soft, creamy desserts like panna cotta (as opposed to something more tangible like a cannoli). Lastly, we also had the following glasses of wine: Verdecchio, Verdeca, Montepulciano, and the Carignan Blend. As someone that loves crisp white wines with high acidity and minerality, I loved the Verdecchio. The Verdeca was refreshing but too light and not fruit forward enough for my preference. We both liked the Carignan, as we like deeper berry flavors, and the Montepulciano was OK (didn't love but didn't dislike). Would definitely love to come back and try some of the other wine varieties and menu options!

It's conveniently located near BART and multiple bus lines and some Lyft bike docks. I cannot recommend Arcana enough! It's great for date night, girls' night, corporate meetups, and more. It's welcoming and inclusive and the food and drinks are delicious and strong. Will be back!

Clearly says 9:30pm for the cover/ticket charge. I am uploading this at 9:19pm, but the whole…read moreinteraction started maybe 10 minutes prior. Charging the $10 event fee on discretion before the posted event start time seems... shady? illegal? My two friends got in a few minutes before with no cover. I was dealing with a bike lock while they went in. We were not there for the event but rather as volunteers from the weekly cleanup refuse crew in the Mission. You get perks as a thank-you for doing your part in making the City a cleaner place. We had just had a lovely time at another participating business (Beehive) and planned on Arcana being our final stop. Thankfully I was able to use the restroom without a fee, with my gear held up outside by the security team. While waiting in the restroom line, I told a staff member about all this, and the worker seemingly went up to the front to find out what's going on. The line took a few minutes, my friends also bumped into me, and I told them I'd likely wait for them outside the business post-restroom while they finished their wine. Already reported to the Mayor's Office. Maybe I'll add BBB. Should be honest and equitable! Four out of 200+ reviews by me have been one star, so I rarely share negativity. It's all rather unfortunate as other visits here went off without an issue. I warned a group of four about all this while I waited out front, and after talking to the front door folks, they left and thanked me for the advice. Please be careful if you visit here. . . .
