This is a honest review, coming from a real customer who has done a decent amount of work on my own cars. I'll provide a summary for those who don't want to read something so long. Then details below for those that do. Overall Summary: A quality shop that focuses on doing the right thing for the customer and their safety, as well as focus on long term cost of ownership instead of up front price. They really do want to provide a good experience for the customer,, especially if you have an issue with the work. Now, up front costs could be higher than other shops in Ann Arbor and ArborMotion could over-engineer/over-recommend a job or replacement, but in my opinion, is all within good reason and justification. Not to nickle and dime you for more money. Details---------------------------------------- The Shop: Very clean shop with clean and organized bays as well. Someone did mention it gives "dealer" vibes, which is true in a sense, but I don't see a problem with that. They use software to send you case notes, pictures and to get written approval, which in my opinion makes things very convenient. The Pricing: Labor rates, in my opinion are fair for a shop of this size and skill level of labor force. You could find cheaper labor rates at some smaller shops, but I'd still bring my car here for the level of service and quality backup. Markup on parts also was fair (not great, but not so expensive) as I compared ArborMotion to online OEM distributors. They fell in between the middle among competitors for OEM part pricing, which for a shop in my opinion, is pretty good. Also have to keep in mind, that they do service high end cars as well so rates may not be like a shop that focuses only on Hondas or Toyotas. The Experience: I had the front passenger lower control arm repaired on my '10 MazdaSpeed3 - brought it in because it snowed and I don't have a garage anymore. When I received the diagnosis and quote for parts, the service rep accurately knew details specifically about the LCA on my Mazda. In this case the bushing is unique and cannot simply be replaced standalone. Parts were replaced and vehicle was repaired completely to the level of quality I expected. I've driven over a few thousands miles at this time of this review with no issues (will update as I go). Their tech provided a inspection results form, which DID NOT over recommend any unneeded repairs. Everything they had noted on their inspection were items that I agree and known needed to be replaced. I did not feel pressure to repair anything extra with them either. That's a huge plus. What may be unique about my experience is that there was one instance of something that I was not 100% satisfied with. I reached out to management and they truly went BEYOND expectations to resolve my issue. This included meeting in person to discuss the issue, re-assess the issue on the vehicle and then take proper action to truly ensure I was satisfied with my experience and the shop. This at the end is completely why I would pay a bit more to obtain the absolute right level of service and know that the shop would resolve my issues, rather than pay a little less up front and then run into an issue where I know there would be no follow up support. This last aspect of my experience is the main reason I will continue to bring my vehicles here for servicing on items that I cannot or will not do myself. read more

This place tried to charge me $1400 to replace my rotors, brake pads, and calipers, which is overpriced for almost any other shop I've talked to. Additionally, after asking around at other shops and getting second opinions, the calipers didn't even need replacing. One was completely fully functional and the other only had some old grease that needed to be cleaned off (ended up being a $400 job). Don't go here unless you want to pay exorbitant prices for repairs you don't even need! read more

Honestly this was my first time visiting them, great people, great shop. They have a shuttle to get you to and from your home which was a nice feature. Fixed my issues quickly and did not try upselling me. Also truly enjoyed the website they use for you to authorize work, they post pictures to prove whatever recommendations for work they have. Less than stellar...oil change was suppose to be done with $25 discount as 1st time customer but was not given. Service done in timely manner, friendly enough, waiting area had decent coffee so so far OK. Then realized when driving home the check engine light had come on (has been on and off periodically) but had been OFF for several months & just happened to come on after oil change. OK, maybe. Then few weeks later I get some emails for ' future service' offers. Coincidence? Probably not. Final comment, called to see if they do pre-purchase inspections on Volvos, one of their auto specialties, "let me check", get put on hold and come back w price of $350 and how great it is. Nice people bad service. my car came out with more problems than it went in for. i asked for gas line to be replaced and electrical to be gone over. neither happened and when i went to pick it up they charged me $800 and said they can't help me. I now have a short draining my battery and nothing was done. gas line never looked at still leaking. read more

These prima-donnas should be running a finishing school for young women or teaching a high tea etiquette class. However, if you want your car repaired without being hustled by charlatans, choose another shop. I am not sure why one would need to vacuum a car interior to work on a fuel pump, but a car detailing fee of close to $300 is exorbitant. I am not sure as to the reasons for the bad service. Maybe they are not accustomed to dealing with an urban clientele or they are just inept at their occupations or for some other disclosed reason. I do know that my car sat for close to 2 weeks before I was notified that they could not work on the car until it was detailed. The detail shop is next door, but not a part of their business according to the desk manager. Yet, they can transfer incoming calls from the same phone line. Terrible experience. Dropped my car off for a check engine light that indicated my thermostat needed to be replaced. Even though the issue was already known when I walked in, they charged my $150 dollars to "diagnose it" with no mention of this cost up front. After receiving their estimate (also double + what other estimates were) I decided not to go with them. When I questioned what they did to diagnose the problem they had no information besides checking the light - which was completed before coming in and takes 30 seconds - 1 minute to do.  0 issues fixed, 150 dollars spent with no  explanation or heads up.  I will be telling everyone I know not to use this shop. read more

Joyriders - car enthusiasts beware! Went in for an alignment, came back with extra mileage and an oil leak. I took my collector car, a Nissan Skyline GT-R, in for a basic four wheel alignment at ArborMotion. They had high internet reviews so I was expecting them to treat my car with respect - the opposite of what happened. For toe adjustment front and rear, they put 10 miles on the car - a ridiculous amount for an alignment check. My gut sunk at realizing my car had potentially been joyridden, but I did not want to jump to conclusions. A quick glance under the car was all I needed to confirm - puddle of oil, which when further investigated was a significant oil leak. The car was clearly beat on, and driven far more roughly than would ever be needed for an "alignment check." I quickly walked back inside and the tech admitted it was taken on several rides, along with some BS about needing to check the rear end noise (it has a clutch type LSD) despite noting it likely had a locker in the work notes, and never once calling me to ask about it. Aside from not having an alignment machine, I perform all of my own maintenance and the car was in excellent condition prior to leaving it with ArborMotion. Of course, being an old car things can and will fail - but they don't sprout an oil leak like this just sitting on a lot or in gentle driving. Being as the techs were observant enough to note the rear differential maintenance (new looking axles), they certainly would have noticed an oil leak of this size before working on the front end alignment. In all likelihood, they aligned it, beat on it and got the oil pressure and temperature extremely high, and set it in a parking spot without looking back twice. I spoke with the owner, Sebastian, who seems to believe the fact that they work on high end vehicles exonerates them from any potential wrongdoing, despite the fact that he was not in the building at the time of the incident. The vehicle now needs front camshaft seals and front main seal - a timing belt off job approaching $1000. This is just to rectify the visible damage and abuse - who knows what wear and tear they put on the clutch, transmission, turbos (OEM ceramic blades - highly sensitive to over-reving), etc. The only positive things I can say are that the alignment seems straight, and the shuttle driver Steve was very polite and courteous. Go elsewhere for your car maintenance needs. read more

I have taken my BMW to a few other shops in town and would recommend ArborMotion over other European/import autoshops in town. It is a professional, clean facility and they go the distance to take care of you. I requested a quote online, was contacted the same day for some details and had a competitive quote later that day. I was able to drop my car off, they provided a shuttle to drop me off at work (nearby) and picked me up at the end of the day. They ran into some issues resulting from prior work done by a different shop, but were professional in communicating with me what was happening and options moving forward. The total cost was exactly as I was quoted, and they give a free car wash to boot! Best service I've experienced and it shows in the ways they go the extra mile to take care of you. These guys know their stuff. You can bring your car here for a pit-stop inspection and they check the entire car over and let you know where you stand. They are very good about explaining what is needed without being too pushy. They take very good care of your car, even washing it before returning it to you. Now, that's service! This guys are amazing! My husband found them by asking local performance car drivers who they take their car to. They are so good at what they do! They will service an ancient Volvo wagon or a super-tuned Porsche and everything in between. We had them service our Volvo wagon (we didn't want to mess around with the local dealership) multiple times. They were even able to do Volvo warranty work! They always looked over the entire car, regardless of what the service was and gave an honest recommendation and honest quote every time. They also always rinsed the car off after the service, so my wagon looked great over the winter! Even more awesome is the fact that they do detailing too. We had our wagon detailed inside and out for an awesome price. They use top-notch products and have great attention to detail. We didn't want to touch our car after they were done, it was that clean!! My husband and I now own two brand new cars that are under warranty through Subaru, so we can't get our cars serviced there anymore. You better believe we'll use their detailing service though! (And push all of our friends with foreign cars to get their servicing done here!) For car people: They are also great for having work done on your tuner car. They routinely do mods (bolt-on, no custom work really) to all sorts of cars. My husband and I are considering getting an older WRX and modifying the heck out of it. Their labor rates and knowledge make this a feasible idea. You can also have parts (including wheels and tires) drop-shipped to their location so you don't have to mess around with taking an exhaust or winter wheels over to them. read more

This place is great! I bought my very first set of snow tires from them in November. I wanted something decent that would get me through my 100 mile/day commute. I couldn't be happier with the tires they recommended. They were right at my price point and performed perfectly. I appreciate Arbor Motion for not taking advantage of my ignorance of snow tires by recommending the most expensive and unnecessary set. Just recently I returned to have my regular tires put back on (yay spring time!). Something on the tires got all over my trunk. I called them and they offered to clean it out right away. They power washed the trunk and even checked the pressure in my spare tire while they were in there. They didn't give me a hard time or question my story. They simply made it right. I'm always weary going into mechanic shops because it's usually all men and I expect them to not take me seriously and/or try to take advantage of me. I have not felt that way at all at Arbor Motion. Highly recommend! It's true that you get what you pay for, and if you're willing to pay slightly more than the chain retailers you can have awesome service and support a local company! read more

Well let's just say that he insisted that I needed to get my car repaired and it would have cost me over one thousand dollars to do so. It was mind blowing that they would expect me to pay that much. I said no multiple times and he continue to pressure me to get my car fix at Arbor Motion. Some people just don't understand the word "No". I think he wanted me to spell it out for him. It was the worst experience in my life.It felt like like hours for me even to get my car out of the shop. He just would not take no for an answer.I felt like I was taken advantage of. People are always worried about getting screwed over by mechanics, but arborMotion is extremely open and transparent, as evidenced by their open service bays-you can literally watch the work being performed on your car as you wait. ArborMotion always surprise me with how great they are. I usually buy used cars. In the past I have experienced repair disastrous, and I tend to be a car hypochondriac. Really poor customer relations. Did more work than was necessary to realize the parts weren't going to fit. Then tried to blame me because i bought the parts. Which i did. And i let them know when i first got there that i wasn't sure that the parts would fit. An experienced and reputable mechanic wouldn't have tried to charge me $600 just to tell me the part doesn't fit. Had to pay three hundred just to get my car back. Lesson learned. This place is professional and the service was good. I had an interior wash with vacuum and I believe the wheels/tires were cleaned. Only thing is one time I went it was $40 and the next time I asked for the same service, it was $30, so that was odd. I took my car into Attention 2 Detail at Arbor Motion to have it detailed today. I had spilled a gas canister in the trunk and the gas had got under the mat and onto he carpet. The car needed a general clean anyway and so I got the Premier interior detail at $229. I called Sebastian for a quote and was immediately impressed by the customer service. When I brought the car in, the service desk were so friendly and courteous. They introduced me to the technician, Nick, who was going to clean the car. He made sure to ask exactly what I expected out of he service and point out areas of concern. I got a ride directly home from Stephen and was picked up later in the day when the car was ready. Check out was easy and the service desk clerk even laughed at my Seinfeld joke. Now to the car... they warned me that there may still be a slight gasoline smell, but I couldn't detect it. The car was immaculate inside and they'd cleaned the outside even though I was expecting just an interior clean. I am so impressed with every aspect of my service today. Definitely worth 5 stars.
