I'm convinced the other reviews have been from owners or their friends as they launch, and none of them have had the guts to be honest with them. It's new to the area and we thought we'd give it a try. think if you're going to call yourself a "brewing" company at a minimum you've got to get the drinks right and honestly what we tried was terrible.
We went with another couple. Between the 4 of us we ordered 2 flights and one glass of the Millcraft cider. For the flights we ordered both ciders they offer, a couple of the meads and a few of the beers to try before we committed to a full glass. I was going to just order a cider but asked the waitress about them she noted on the menu that "one is described as funky and it really is pretty funky". I feel like funky isn't a description you should use when describing food or drink that you are trying to sell so we ordered both thinking there would be something fun or interesting about it. The menu description was indeed accurate, it was funky. In fact every single pour that we sampled was "funky". As in gross. Everything has a weird menthol flavor to it, and not in a nice way. The lavender-peach mead didn't have even a hint of lavender or peach, nor did the raspberry have a hint of raspberry. The waitress didn't seem to notice that our flights went barely touched, we couldn't choke them down and none of us ordered another beverage. They do give you these really nice tall bottles of water and we went through 3 of them. For the guys to not even finish the beer samples is saying something.
For food we each ordered something different. We ordered a charcuterie board. For $16 it has 6 tiny olives, 4 baby gherkin pickles smaller than a newborn's pinky finger. 2 pieces of salami, 2 pieces or prosciutto, a spoonful of liver pâté, 3 thin slices of bread and 6 crackers and some broken cracker dust, I'm pretty sure the box was emptied on our tray. It looked ridiculous for the small amount of food spread out that they put out on tray way too big. This is a charcuterie plate for ONE person and it could have all fit on an appetizer plate. I asked for some extra crackers and they brought out exactly 6 more crackers. Our friend ordered, the roast beef picnic sandwich. He described it as "fine" and he ate it. His wife ordered the lamb short ribs. They were not cooked to the point of falling off the bone. She wrestled with one, to cut the meat off, she said she didn't necessarily enjoy it but took the rest home. My husband got the chicken bbq sandwich special. He described it as "kind of weird, the flavors didn't go together. He removed the 2 slices of peaches that had no business being in there. They weren't grilled, cooked or warm. He tried a couple of bites and said it was weird and removed it. I got the pasta, "pappardelle". It basically a bowl of wide green noodle pasta, SMOTHERED in olive oil with capers, chunks of summer squash (uncooked), 4 tiny ball tomatoes and maybe pesto? It was fine but heavy on the oil. On a positive note, the dinner portions were good and thankfully they give huge portions of French fries and they were really good, everyone enjoyed them.
You've obviously invested a fortune into this place but your family and friends obviously aren't willing to be honest with you and you need to hear this.
1.) The word "funky" is good when referring to atmosphere or decor. When referring to food or drink it is bad. Your menu description includes the word "funky" and it's accurate. Let that sink in. The word "funky" should NEVER be on an a menu. Ever.
2.) Its good to want to be different but you're trying too hard. Your food is not memorable in a good way and is not worthy of a return visit. Get a grill and use it. Grill steak, burger, chicken, vegetables, other breweries aren't grilling and this will keep you strong all year long.
3.) Brewery's are not the place for "gourmet presentation" which is what it looks like you are trying to do. You are selling beer not champagne and someone needs to tell your chef.
4.) Maybe we didn't get your best beer. If you have one that's way better than the others every waitress should be telling people. Otherwise, Your drink situation is in trouble and you need a consultant right at away. Some of those drinks need to be pulled off of the menu before they ruin your reputation. If you can't get this part turned around, your name, Archival, says it all. You'll be history before you know it.
I'm leaving a 2 star review because our waitress, Jessica was nice and attentive, the fries were good as were the bottles of water. The restaurant was clean and the location was great, convenient with plenty of parking. read more
