Karla the bartender making my "Plot Twist" cocktail
    Slevin L.

This spot is going to become THE place to be on K street once people know about it. I was in the area and happened to remember they recently opened this brand new spot so I decided to check it out. I remember seeing it mentioned on the news too. I got there when it opened at 7pm so it was pretty quiet, but I got a good feel and vibe from the place. The manager also interacted with me and told me that just last night, the place had some popular DJ and packed the place in. He showed me a video of what the scene looked like and all I can say is wow (in a good way). The best way I think I could describe this spot would be a more intimate Las Vegas night club on the strip while not compromising the quality of cocktails and providing a multi-sensory experience of lights, sounds and energy. I left when things started to get busy but I am confident in saying that you won't be disappointed and feel like you got your money's worth for sure.... especially when they will be having events there. If you get there shortly after it opens, I think you can count on more of a lounge sort of vibe. When it starts getting later or there's a DJ spinning (especially a well known one), then the place turns into an upscale nightclub. Circling back to my experience, I tried their "Plot Twist" cocktail which consists of things like bourbon, lemon, honey, fig jam and walnut and it was one of the best cocktails I've had in a long time. Nicely balanced, smooth, inviting and little to no bite. Just a damn good cocktail that I really enjoyed. There were three bartenders there which were Karla (who made my drink), Ian (who made my second drink that I can't remember what the name was), and Danny. They were all really nice, fun and outgoing bartenders that made me feel welcomed while also maintaining a fun demeanor. I asked if it was ok with them to take their pic since some people don't like that and they were cool with it. The bar seats being a little small were surprisingly comfy and tested out the lounge seating which is also comfy and provides perfect views of everything going on (in case you ever want to reserve a spot). There is no bad seat in the house, the music system is very clear with high end audio, and overall you can tell that a lot of thought and effort was put into this place by people who know what they are doing. A couple of other things to note is that the menu they have on their counter does not display all of the cocktails. There are more on their website which you can look up by going onto their website. When they are in their busy hours, you can reserve spots and get bottle and I think that if you know it's going to be a busy night, it will be worth it to do with a group. There will probably be a door charge later in the night so be prepared for that, however I did see on their website that they do have a guestlist so take advantage of that! They do have a dress code so when in doubt, just dress to impress and you should have no trouble getting in. The average cocktail is around $15 and think it's reasonable for the kind of cocktail you will be able to get. Archive is open on certain days so be sure to double check that they are open before going. Ultimately, if you haven't been yet, this is one place you should definitely check out at least once. If you're more into the lounge vibe, get there early. If you're more into the clubbing vibe, get there a little later or check out their events for the ultimate experience. I will definitely be back and this place is raising the bar on K Street and whole area. Oh yeah, and lastly, they do accept tap to pay including Apple Pay, Samsung Pay and Google Pay as well as credit/debit cards and cash. Thanks for the great time guys!

Fantastic Spot To "Pregame" Shows @ Goldfields Next Door…read more SITREP We descended upon the Tack Room an hour before our show for "Ally The Piper" (both the classical AND heavy metal bagpiper extraordinaire) began her show! THE SETUP Goldfields is a charming, rustic country-western stylized saloon that serves up beer at good prices. But we weren't interested in beer and wanted quality cocktails. Hence, our pivot next door to the Tack Room! QUALITY COCKTAILS & DRINKS! The Tack Room specializes an amazing array of martinis, bourbons, and other deLISH cocktail drinks at really really reasonable prices! So this was an excellent choice to chill, thus avoiding the tremendous *noise pollution* we were immediately subjected to upon entering Goldfields an hour later for our show. THE LOWDOWN This is a quality bar with plenty of comfortable seating to relax and have quiet, intimate conversations. So if you and your later friend(s) want some privacy, cocktails at a reasonable price, etc., this is a good way to go.

It's themed around horse racing, but not in an overbearing or... tacky way. The mixologist was delightful and had great recommendations, the lights were dim, and the drinks were all on point. The highlight was the espresso martini, which is among the best I've had. It was reminiscent of the one I had at the Starbucks Roastery in NYC, which is high praise. The other coffee drink that surprised me was the Revolver. I always forget about what a good pairing orange and coffee is, and I'll be taking this one back home with me to try! Every other drink we tried was delicious in some unique way. The Pho drink was savory and surprising, the New York Sour was rich and flavorful, and the Practical Move was refreshing. Will definitely return here after dinner to sip an espresso martini for dessert!

This is the entrance to the speakeasy. In prior years the club was open only to members but it is now open to the public. Ambiance: I visited post New Years so they still had some holiday decorations up but really enjoyed the upper class feel. It really doesn't feel like any of the speakeasies I have been to before as it was much brighter and more open space but enjoyed it nonetheless. Food/Drinks: I strictly stayed with Espresso Martinis but they were prepared pretty well. The flatbreads also tasted amazing! They also had a list of different holiday themed drinks for those inclined for some holiday cheer. Service: The service here was super quick. The server came to our table so we did not have to head over to the bar. They came a couple of times to check on us but were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the drink options! Definitely worth a check out if you are looking for a friendly public speaker easy.

I had been to Bawk before but little did I know about the hidden space behind it. You do need to make reservations, which I did not do. Instead I got on a list until there was a space, close to midnight and way past my bedtime, to discover this hidden gem. Once your reservation time comes up, you are escorted to a booth or bar area and given a menu. We had welcome drinks upon arrival and could choose from a cocktail list. The space is small and intimate with serious speakeasy vibes that remind me of some of the cocktail bars in San Francisco. The drink presentations are gorgeous, and you can tell a lot of thought goes into both the flavor and how everything looks when it arrives at the table. They have a great selection of gin, rum, champagne, and whiskey, and I often lean on the staff for drink suggestions because they're really good at recommending something you might not normally order. A few times now they've pointed me toward a drink that ended up being a hidden gem. I've been here a few times and it's always a great time whether you're catching up with friends or doing a date night. The food is also surprisingly good and pairs well with the cocktails. It is definitely on the pricier side, but that's part of the experience. Also, because the space is small and intimate, reservations fill up quickly and they do require a deposit, which goes toward your final bill. Helpful tip: make a reservation ahead of time and don't be afraid to ask the staff for drink recommendations -- they're excellent at guiding you to something special. Final verdict: absolutely worth it.

I started with the chips and guacamole. The chips were fresh, crunchy, and served warm. The guacamole was flavorful and well-balanced, sticking to a classic style without trying to do too much. For drinks, I ordered the Watermelon Raspberry Margarita. It was crisp, refreshing, and packed with flavor. Not overly sweet and not too strong, making it a great choice if you're looking for something easy to enjoy with your meal. For my entrée, I went with the Beef Tasajo tacos. The skirt steak was juicy and tender, topped with fresh onions and cilantro, and served with salsa verde and lime on the side. The tacos had that classic street taco feel, simple but satisfying. They were generously filled with meat, which I definitely appreciated. While I'm personally not a fan of purple tortillas, the quality of the steak and toppings still made these very enjoyable. My only real criticism was the water service. The cups were fairly small, and refills weren't offered as often as I would have liked. If you're thirsty, it may be worth asking for a pitcher or larger water service upfront. Overall, I left feeling full and satisfied. The food was fresh, the portions were generous, and the margarita was excellent. I'd definitely consider coming back to try more items on the menu.

When we walked in I knew I was in the perfect spot-this bar has those low lights that all the bars in the 70s and 80s had-giving off a both romantic and mysterious vibe to it-I was in love with the place from that moment on. The music that day was awesome-I heard they have live music at times but at the time of my visit they did not-they were instead playing 90s and 2000s R&B and Hip Hop-it was wonderful-one banger after another-so yeah I was vibing. Our waitress couldn't have been cooler-she was as friendly as can be-suggesting drinks that were both on and off the menu-her and I were sharing tequila stories based on our shared affinity for the Fortaleza tequila they had in stock -which is super rare and it's how I judge every bar-whether or not they have Fortaleza tequila on hand and The Butterscotch Den had multiple bottles on hand. We ended up going with a few drinks that day. -Strawberry Negroni-($13.00)-This one blew my socks off-my favorite drink in the works is a Negroni but this bar makes a Strawberry version of it and let me tell ya-it's dynamite-10/10 rating -Old Fashioned-($12.00)-This is my go-to order at most bars because it's pretty reliable and most bars can make a decent one and I'd say they make a very solid one here-8.2/10 rating -Cucumber Gimlet with Tequila-($11.00)-This drink was made with lime-sweet vermouth and tequila-it was very refreshing and went down way too easy-rating 8.4/10 -Mezcal mystery drink-($12.00)-This was a drink the bartender made that after we declared our love for the smokiness of mezcal-I wouldn't be able to ask for it again unless I got the same waitress but if your a mezcal lover like I am-this drink was top of the line-smokiness intensity off the charts-9.1/10 rating So a little about the place that I picked up during my visit-I guess they serve food-I didn't know that but after my 2nd drink I looked back and saw this entire dining area with table side grills-so I guess the customers cook their own meats and such-pretty cool concept-my visit was strictly a drinking visit so I didn't partake but it looked pretty cool. I guess they are opened most days from 4p-12am and until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights. They do not have a dedicated parking lot for this bar but they are located near 34th and Broadway-so unlimited street parking is available for those who drive here. In closing-I really really enjoyed my visit to The Butterscotch Den and I was pretty sure I had found my new favorite bar in Sacramento with a bar in the Ice Blocks but I am pretty sure that has changed and The Butterscotch Den is my new favorite bar in the greater Sacramento area-if you find yourself looking for a new spot to enjoy some adult beverages or maybe looking for a date night spot-don't hesitate to make your way over to The Butterscotch Den-the place is a true hidden gem. PS-They have a Disco Ball in their lounge area and a vintage non-working cigarette machine-the coolest I tell ya.

It was overcast and cold so we were looking it for indoor seating but we ended up sitting outside. You go to the bar inside to order and then you are given a number and then a server brings your food out to your table. I went with 2 friends so I saved our table for us so it wouldn't get taken while they went to order for me. I ordered the short stack ube mochi pancakes which was only $6 for 2 pancakes which was so cheap! I was shocked at the price! If you want the full stack it is $12 which is still such a great deal. The pancakes came with strawberry and pineapple fruit topping, coconut shavings, and caramelized condensed milk syrup. The pancakes were chewy and soft and not too sweet and had good ube flavor. My fellow elite Yelp friend ordered the matcha waffles which was a large portion but she said the waffles lacked strong matcha flavor. I looked at the rest of their menu and wanted to try their savory Filipino dishes such as the loco moco. Overall, the ube pancakes are delicious and such a great deal!
