The burgers are well worth the money. The stream and relaxing atmosphere are to be experienced. My only gripe is that as far as I know, they still do not take credit cards. I had invited a friend out to lunch for her birthday and was embarrassed when I was told that my plastic money was no good. I had to borrow cash from her and then mail her a check. This made me look pretty bad and almost ruined the day. I'm not sure if the management realizes the ramifications of such a strange policy. Okay, Arctic Roadrunner. You've been around for many, many years. This does NOT excuse you for allowing mice to run around your dining area. While it was great entertainment for the children, to see a plump little rodent scurrying here and there was inexcusable. The best way to describe yesterdays experience is DISAPPOINTING. After having a wonderful experience several weeks ago I decided that this should be my go to burger place again, but something was clearly different yesterday. We live 5 minutes away and they refused a phone order(which they took happily last time), so my lovely wife drove to the store and had to wait 15 minutes to place and receive the order. When she got home the burgers were still hot but not the fries and onion pieces which had already grease soaked through the paper bags they were in. The fires appeared to be hand cut, were cold to the touch, and limp and soggy, on top of greasy. The onion pieces looked like the bottom of the fryer cleanout. The burger I had, the Kenai, looked like it had been put together in the dark. The patties were half way out of the bun and the multiple toppings looked like they had been dropped on the burger from 3 feet. The bun top was placed to cover almost everything --and the burger was filling the to go container so it did not shift in driving--just poor work in the kitchen. The great taste was still there, except the fries. but the eye appeal is half the experience. Sorry--I hope you take more care and do better next time. read more

I love Arctic Roadrunner, this place is the very definition of "local" I've been here several times and I love it every time! The atmosphere screams of local love and this place honors their longtime customers, the prices seemed average for a burger place (they only take cash though) but as a local joint I would take this place over the main chain stuff, the burgers taste fresh and they actually taste pretty good compared to most. Yummy little burger joint! Full of history and pride of their customer plastered all over the wall. You walk up put your order in for one of the juiciest burgers ever, we also got the chili fries I didn't want but ended up loving!!! The condiment bar is full of homemade pickles, (the spicy style are incredible) and everything you need for your burger and salsas. You can sit in multiple places inside and spend hours looking at all the pictures and beauty surrounding it, they also have incredible seating right on the river that is such a beautiful and solitude experience, definitely setting the bar at a new level for a burger joint! Update! Now that I am able to talk about this meal without worrying that it was going to violently fly out of both of my ends. So, I agreed to go with my taller half, thinking, I will order a veggie burger. Arctic Roadrunner does not have a veggie burger, but has a "nature" burger that has a whole wheat bun and sprouts. This seemed unappealing, so I got the next healthiest option, a halibut burger. When the burger arrived, it was a cheap white bread bun with two spoonfuls of mayonnaise, three strands of iceburg lettuce, and a slab of halibut with a slice of American cheese on top. In retrospect, I think maybe, the halibut and mayo were mixed the way tuna and mayo are mixed. Even despite what appeared to be flavoring in the halibut - what else could those flecks of green and brown have been - it was the most flavorless thing ever, literally, water has more flavor. So, for those white bread mayonnaise sandwich lovers, GO HERE! It's got so much of everything you love, in just one sandwich. read more

I LOVE the food here. I worked near this restaurant for almost 4 years and have eaten HUNDREDS of their burgers (I know that's a lot, but they're so good!) and I have never been disappointed. The Arctic Cheese is my all-time favorite burger, and I consider it the best hamburger ever! With the interesting decor, nice setting by the creek, and consistently delicious food, I'd say this is a great spot to eat for either a quick bite or a sit-down meal with friends. Arctic Roadrunner is an Anchorage classic and it's like a time capsule with all the older pictures of early Alaska plastered on every inch of the restaurant. There's a great view of a little river outside and I'd take anyone visiting AK for the first time here to see a nice little AK tourist attraction. With that being said, the food is as old school as the restaurant itself. I'm all for the classics and I love it when they keep the traditional cooking people have loved for many decades but it's honestly a little bland. I, as most americans, eat a lot of burgers and the burgers here are just regular. It's not that I don't like the food, it's just nothing specifically special either. Maybe I should try a fish or chicken sandwich but when you're a burger joint and your burgers are just regular, its most likely the rest of your food will be also. It's a cute place and the food is fast but I wouldn't consider them one of the top burger joints in Anchorage as many do. read more

Arctic Roadrunner is Anchorage's best full-service burger bar. By full service I mean that AR has more than just hamburgers. You've got a few sandwiches, salmon burgers, and halibut burgers. Great fries, shakes, etc... I do love their salmon burger. It's fresh and tasty. The burgers are a good size - not too big and not too small. The buns are a soft white tasty buttered buns. Overall AR is a really great place. The setting of the place is just plain awesome. It's located on the banks of Campbell Creek and is really almost magical. It's one of the best places to enjoy the few sunny summer weekends we have in Alaska. My only complaint is they're not open on Sunday. It's a free country I guess but it bums me out. read more

Really good burgers, kind of a strange ordering system though. I think it's a bit weird that if you want fries you have to actually order them separate because they don't come with the burger like they don't in almost all other places. Their shakes are the most amazing ever. I've never tried to customize anything, but I've heard from school friends who work here that it doesn't go over well with the cook. I believe they only accept cash, (the workers don't even have a direct deposit option. They get checks every 2 weeks). Excellent burger, great shake, and crazy Alaskan decor. What more could a tourist ask for? Funny thing though, most of the people eating here were not tourists. I had lunch at the location on Old Seward Highway and we were not disappointed. One cheeseburger, two salmon burgers, one large order of homemade onion rings, and one small peanut butter shake and we were waddling out of the restaurant fully satisfied and ready for a nap. The burger was great, and my folks gave the salmon burgers a thumbs-up too. I think we all thought the homemade onion rings (hand breaded and pan fried) were the best thing we had but everything was really good. I don't know what all the whining is about, but yes, this is a cash only place. BONUS: There's all kinds of crazy pictures of customers and their families, posters from the 1980s about "You Know You're In Trouble When ...", and moose heads all over the walls. There's also a fireplace in the restaurant and outdoor creek-front seating -- both weather depending. Well-seasoned beef patty and a choice of American or Mozzarella cheese. I ordered my burger on a wheat bun which was oversized for the burger but the burger was an adequate size. My next to last night in Anchorage but first time here. Had no idea about the rushing shallow creek (Campbell Creek) adjacent to the ample patio. The patio was full when I went around 7pm on a Wednesday with families and couples enjoying the food and the lovely summer evening. If I'm ever in Anchorage again, I will remember this place and return. The ambience was pleasant with 48 years of memorabilia from customers and generations of customers. Ordered a French dip and chocolate shake. They're a cash only burger place. You go up to the counter and order your food then wait. For whatever reason, they totally ignored my French dip and served at least ten people that ordered after me. By the time I got my sandwich, my coworkers were almost done with their lunches. Sandwich was okay, not fabulous 3-star if I'm being generous. Shake was excellent, definitely a 5 star. Staff was super nice, at least at the front counter. Front counter girl checked on my sandwich (twice) each time kitchen staff said "working on it". The burgers looked really good. I won't order the French dip again. read more

Good Burger. I went here for lunch and ordered a cheese burger with the works. It had 2 types of cheese, ham, lettuce, a chili pepper, and more. It didn't blow my mind, but it was not bad. All burgers are cooked to med-well, but they accommodated my request for a medium. They did a great job not overcooking my burger. The meat seemed to take a backup roll, but that may have been because of the burger I ordered. Also ordered a side of "homemade" onion pieces. These were just ok. There was very little flavor but the were cooked to perfection. The were basically onion rings that didn't hack the name "Ring". A business that doesn't accept card's or checks, only cash. Not a bad thing for me since they have an ATM in store. I have been to another burger joint in the Lower 48 that did this, but the nearest ATM was over 5 miles away. So I was pleasantly surprised they had an ATM indoors. The roadrunner has a pickle and condiment bar that was very nice. I do wish they did more than just regular mustard. To top it off, this restaurant has outdoor seating right next to the creek that is great for a warm summer day. This was a great feature. Overall a good experience. I visited Anchorage in 2019 and loved it. The only thing that was bad was the hotel food. I love greasy burgers and asked a salesperson at the fur Trader and she said ' Arctic Runner" . I went there and I think it has the best burgers I have ever experienced. My biggest surprise was the salmon burger. It is incredible! Just the right combination of bread, sauces, veggies, cheese. I will always remember that burger. And great seating areas! I plan to visit Anchorage again and eat at this GREAT burger joint everyday I am there. Be sure to eat there!! read more

Go for the frozen ones if you're looking for traditional "rings". The fresh ones aren't breaded, just fried. They're good but not what most would consider a traditional onion ring. The food here is really awesome! The burgers are for the win, especially the Halibut Burger and Salmon burger. Located right on Campbell creek, in winter the place is so frozen it looks almost magical outside. In summer, the place looks equally beautiful and you get to enjoy the view because there's seating outside. This is a cash only place.
