Arepa Please has been on my list of places to try for a while now and finally I had the opportunity to stop in. We came in on a Saturday pretty soon after they opened, we waited in a small line which gave up time to plan out what we were going to order. If you and your significant other don't create a game plan before ordering at a restaurant can you even call yourself a foodie? Needing a coffee I ordered that first and then ordered The Queen which was not what I was expecting but very good. My husband ordered the The Jax Blond arepa which was very very good. While I liked both I thought the Jax Blond was better. I actually didn't know how good arepas could be until I started ordering them fresh and this place does a very good arepa sandwich. We were able to find a table right away but did notice several people have to wait a few minutes for a table. If I am in the area I will absolutely be going back to try more arepas!!! read more

I wanted to give 5 stars but I had to take a point away because I found a piece of hair mixed in with my shredded beef. I ordered delivery for the family; my family members stated their meals were delicious and they don't say that a lot. I was the last to eat and ordered the Jax Blond. The positive feedback; I thought the portion size was great. It came wrapped in wax paper and foil so nothing spilled and it was still warm when I opened it. The green sauce on the side was really good, not sure what it's called. I took a bite of it with the bread but it was so big that I decided to just eat it with a fork. That's when I found the hair. The negative feedback; it's probably not a big deal or deal breaker for some but I have a pet peeve about finding hair in my food. I know I can just take it out but as soon as I see one, I lose my appetite and don't usually eat it again. However because the flavor was good, I tried to continue to eat it but I couldn't enjoy it like I did in the beginning. I was paranoid and checking every forkful before eating it because I didn't want to waste my money. I ate most of it but the cheese was like a big glob stuck to the other piece of bread so I left it alone. I'm willing to try them again because the reviews were good and my family did enjoy theirs but just wanted to point out that hair can be off putting to some. read more

I love this place! Growing up, my mom would always get us arepas at the art festivals held in my home town. When I learned about this place, it was a must try on my list! I've been here several times now and everything is consistently delicious and freshly made! From the fancy monkey, to the Jax Blond to the Queen, you can't go wrong with any of the arepas! The plantains are always cooked to soft, sweet perfection. The Jax Blond has the most delicious marinated beef. And my most recent favorite, the Queen is out of this world. They shred the chicken very finely and mix it with mayo and avocado. Make sure to get a side of potato salad to round out your meal and even a coffee! Whether your an arepa pro or someone who's never heard of them, make sure to give this place a try. The staff are all very friendly and provide an excellent experience. This tiny cafe is easy to pass by on the way to Riverside's many food choices. But that would be a mistake. While the restaurant itself is a bit plain, it's the food that counts. We shared the Queen Arepa, a sandwich that sort of resembles a large oreo cookie only this one is stuffed with a wonderful combination of shredded chicken and an avocado sauce that is amazing. It's stuffed between two crunchy pieces of arepa, a grilled white corn similar to a tortilla that couldn't be more different from Wonder bread. We also shared a gyro salad that included large tomato slices, olives, feta cheese and a nice helping of perfectly seasoned gyro meat. We checked out Arepa Please thanks to a recommendation from my husband's co-worker who is from Venezuela and said the arepas there are as good as any he had back home. High praise indeed! The service was friendly and the food arrived within less than 10 minutes. The prices were more than fair and the limited seating was adequate. An issue I often have with arepa places is that the things are so overloaded it is impossible to hold one in your hand and eat it, and here they were very upfront about that and offered plastic utensils by default. They had a good selection of vegetarian options, and you could get a black bean and avocado vegan one too. I picked the most extensive combination they had, adding a couple of fried plantains and some salty, zingy cheese to those delicious beans and avocado. It was a monster, it was very tasty. Came here during a filming for the restaurant, and I even though my friends and I were pretty loud, the workers were nice about it and told us not to worry about the shooting. Overall the food was SOO SOO delicious. I couldn't stop thinking about the arepa for a week. My friend took me here because she's from Columbia and told me how this place is the closest and most authentic to Columbian food. I was soo excited about it, especially since I've never had Columbian food before either. The arepa was super flavorful and well seasoned. There aren't many Hispanic joints in Jacksonville, FL but the Hispanic community is growing! I gotta say. The arepas here are amazing! This place is definitely a hole in the wall but a great place to have lunch with family and friends. I've had The Queen, Jax Blond and the California. The Queen- similar to a chicken salad but better. The chicken is slow cooked and extremely soft and not clumpy like your usual chicken salad and this one is served one on a bed of soft freshly baked arepa. The Jax Blond- is like a Hispanic burger but replace the burger buns with softly fresh baked arepas and the meat is shredded pulled meat bits (similar to shredded pork texture). It's very heavy and meaty so be warned. Yet, it's delicious! The California- is a lighter option when you wanna watch your calorie intake. Avocados is a nice touch with the freshly made arepas! I was running some errands downtown and opted to use the Yelp app to find a place nearby to grab some grub. What popped up on my search, but Arepa Please, and thank goodness it did. Finding parking downtown So to my surprise I found Arepa Please AND here's the kicker, they had their own parking lot and I got a spot. Can we say best day ever? The outside is brightly painted and just made me so happy. I like brightly colored murals, they speak to me. Inside looked like a cute little cafe. Don't tell anyone, but your's truly has never had an arepa, so I had to try one. Don't get me wrong, I also really wanted to try their gyro, because I'm Greek and I love me some gyros, but when in Rome, so I opted to get the fancy monkey: fried plantains, queso blanco, black beans and avocados. Sounds delish, right? For my side I ordered the pasta salad. The guy behind the counter sounded from my dad's neck of the woods, so I asked where he was fun. Low and behold he was from my dad's neck of the woods, Queens, NY and he mentioned he was Greek. What are the odds? I digress. My meal came out and it smelled and looked AMAZING. This arepa was chockfull of awesome flavors: creamy ripe avocados (check), salty queso fresco (check), sweet caramelized plantains (check), and spiced black beans (check). I bit into this arepa of goodness and WHOA BABY, all the flavors worked together. I almost started dancing in my seat, but I controlled myself. The Queen is a winner. I knew had a arepa with chicken salad but it is definitely worth a try. It has a mix of avocado and cilantro to make for a very flavorful filling inside a crunchy warm arepa. We tried a couple other arepas the Pabellon and the Fancy Monkey. They were good but not as flavorful. I will say the sweet plantains were amazing. They were soft and sweet with a slight crust. I would say they were the best I have had in town. But overall we enjoyed our meal and would come back for the Queen anytime. read more

I took the recommendation of the friendly employee and tried "The Queen" with potato salad on the side. The arepa was fresh and hot with the chicken salad and avocado on top like an open-faced sandwich. I know I was hungry but gosh this meal was wonderful! And the green sauce served on the side added a wonderful flavor to the meal! The potato salad was delicious I just added a tiny bit of salt. They have a quaint medium size dining space. It was clean as well as the restroom. Water was complimentary. The staff were super helpful as it was my first time here. I would absolutely recommend Arepa Please! This is my third visit to Arepa Please and, as always, it was a good experience. The place is hip and filled with art (I think it'd be cool if they had rotating galleries, especially with that projector), and the people at the register have always been nice and helpful. I've had a homemade arepa before and it came pretty bite-sized, so I was worried one from Arepa Please would not be enough. My worries were quickly assuaged because their options are HUGE. They have a pretty varied and creative menu, filled with goodies that I'd like to try as time goes on. At $10-12 a pop, I find it to me a little expensive for not including a side dish I n that price. While I do wish that a cheaper combo option, the plantains and French fries are actually soooo yummy. The quick and dirty: If you're downtown and in the mood for a quick but filling meal, this is the spot. The menu has a variety of options, not just arepas! Our usual barber in Southside didn't have any openings on a Saturday and my boys badly needed a cut so we ended up at their downtown Jax location. I nabbed an early appointment because we had to get my oldest son to his first day of work. While there, our tummies were rumbling and out of nowhere my eyes fixated to this bright piece of paper handing next to my head. It was a menu to Arepa Please. I looked it over and it just made me hungrier! Then, to my surprise, I looked up and realized it was right across the street! They had me, hook, line and sinker. Immediately after finishing at the barber, we ran across the street. Not very common but they have a decently sized parking lot to the right of the building which had plenty of space. Parking in downtown areas is usually a painful experience for me because I can't always justify the price and am bad with directions - so this was a treat! The outside of the building has a vibrant mural and a stretch of windows adorned with greenery. We walked into a greeting from the cashier who was helping other guests. That have me time to look around and scope out my goodies. The atmosphere was casual and relaxed but fun. I can see a having cute lunch date here or just grabbing bites to go, like I was that day. When we were ordering the cashier made nice conversation after realizing we were first timers. He even helped supper the benefits of learning another language to my son! I asked his favorite arepa and he suggested the Jax Blond and I took him up on it - so glad I did. It was perfectly savory and filling. My friends and I came in for dinner before the Shrimp's game last week. One of my friends eats here a few times a month and always raves about it, so I was excited to finally try Arepa Please! At first we just ordered beers and grabbed a table while we waited for everyone to show up. The cashier offered to just wait and ring up the drinks when we ordered food to make it easier, which we appreciated! The food was tasty, my bf and I shared the Pabellon Arepa, which came with a side of chips. We really liked the food, though I did feel a bit sick afterwards later that night. My food tasted just like any other chicken salad I've ever had but that arepa and sauce took it to a whole, another level! When you bite into that arepa and its fresh and hot from the kitchen, you'll understand! I can't have chicken salad any other way now. Who wants soggy bread or a chicken salad wrap when the arepa can strongly hold three times the amount of chicken salad? The crunchy savory pieces of each bite is such a delight. The menu is pretty straightforward offering some sandwiches, salads, sides and of course AREPAS! With many styles to choose from (Including vegan options) it was hard for me to decide which one to try for my very first visit. I opted for the "Jax Blond" which is shredded beef which they have slow cooked in pomodoro sauce. It includes south american herbs in a bed of melted cheddar cheese. It was so savory and just absolutely delicious. The flavor of the beef was simply indescribable and I will be dreaming about it all week... I had some pasta salad on the side which was great as well. My friend enjoyed the "Domino" which is homemade slow cooked black beans in south american herbs with queso blanco. It looked great and she mentioned it being just as tasty as it looked.
