Ariyoshi is a place where you love it or either hate it. I completely ABHOR it. The teriyaki flavor was bad and the sushi size was just not right. I went there and now, NEVER AGAIN SHALL I RETURN. Something happened here at Ariyoshi, I don't know what? I have come here ever since he started this restaurant way back when it was very small and in a different spot. It was always excellent in the past that is...NOW???? I wonder if the place has changed owner, it is lately absolutely not the same any more. I use to come here rather often and it was good, very good in fact. Now the portions are continuing getting smaller and smaller...recently we had the combination sushi/shasimi platter, it was so small the pieces, it was an embarrassment. The quality and taste of the food is going down-hill as well. The Udon noodle soup was pretty-must tasteless. Does anyone know if this restaurant changed ownership? In the past I use to see the owner going true from time to time ( a skinny Japanese fellow, very nice and polite man) I never see him there anymore? The service is what you would normally expect in a Queens middle of the road restaurant. Staff changes often and mostly student and foreign workers. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but they never trained in the business and of-cause there performances shows the lack of experiences. Delicious hot food and rolls. My favorite rolls to get always is the sunnyside roll and the spicy crunchy scallop roll! Spider roll is pretty awesome too. I love how they have specials for dinner, such as the katsudon and udon special, it comes with ice cream and salad! Complete meal. I never leave Ariyoshi's dissappointed. The service is great, they are always so nice and attentive. I've been going here for about 15 years and it's my go to spot for my comfort meals. read more

This review is mostly about customer service I called to order food to go at 2;20pm and they could not hear me clearly on the phone. I then left work and walked in there at 2:26pm to be tutted at, told they were closed and then I got "well what do you want then" needless to say I turned on my heel and walked straight out. Came here for lunch Service was great food Not. 1.) Squid Tentacles grilled w salt - taste more like steam than grilled. 2.) Kijidon udon from lunch menu - come w salad, small udon & small chicken teriyaki- salad dressing was good, udon ok, chicken teriyaki was the worst I ever had. 3.) I'll admit I havent been to all japanese rest in NY, but this place hit the spot great. Me and my friend got a bunch of food and shared it to see what was best. We had Gyosa, and fried squid(not the tentacles) for apppetizer, main meal was Beef Negimaki, and for sushi, philly roll, spicy sider and you cant forget that spicy mayo. Foods were good. It seems many people love this place. When I visited, many customers were coming after me, and the server was having hard time to arrange the tables (there were a limited number of tables.) Yes, the issue was the poor-quality servers. The servers don't know how to handle the restaurants. Because of the server, foods served very slow. It took roughly 30 minutes to just receive Edamame, 1 hour to get other dishes. Servers didn't ask me another glass of beer even mine was empty. One of my orders didn't come out. I won't back to this restaurant. This is my favorite sushi joint in Sunnyside! If you go here you HAVE to have the Sunnyside roll! It is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!!! Every time I go here I always get that. The service is nice and friendly, prices are reasonable, the only thing is they are limited delivery and they close for two hours in the middle of the day. Well that explains it......this Japanese restaurant has been bought out by a Chinese group. They have absolutely no business running this one great neighborhood eatery. The quality of rolls has gone down significantly. The rice wrapped around rolls is now like oatmeal mush instead of quality rice that has good texture and a hand rolled feel. It really feels like you bought from fridge section of grocery store. It wasn't like this years past but I think they are trying to save money. The quality of salmon in rolls is obviously low quality farmed salmon that has nerve like sections that you come across when eating. The look and color of salmon looks extremely fake. This is really sad because Sunnyside is a vital and thriving area and places like Takeshushi will surely surpass Ariyoshi easily if they keep this us. The manager needs to shake off his cost saving methods and stop insulting customers.....because word will spread and their recent renovations made to the store will not be enough to keep loyal customers. I hope the manager takes a look at their new low quality mush rolls and stops fooling the public. read more

It's our first time in this area and we were not disappointed. The service was amazing we didn't have to wait long to be seated and the staff were friendly and accommodating. They have a wide array of menu at affordable prices, best sellers are rolls, sushi, udon and ramen. We ordered udon and rolls and we were happily surprised that our food came in hot and fast, with inviting presentation as well. My husband and I realized recently that we've been to Ariyoshi more often than any other restaurant over the last 20 years. Since we eat out frequently, that's saying a lot! It's been owned by the same gentleman from Tokyo for as long as I can remember, and he's usually there, overseeing things. We've never had a bad meal here, and the prices are quite reasonable. Worse experience I had in my entire life !! Went today with my kid to support our favorite sushi place ready to place an order ! One lady was with cashier two waiting ! I kept the distance and waited online .. another guy comes and asked me if pick up or I need to order ! Explain. I am waiting to order and also We need to keep distance .. so he backs up ... when the person in front leaves and was my turn he decides to call and place order ! The lady taking order answers and sees him ! So she calls him in front of me and takes payment!I was like shocked ! Literally left ! I know all of them ! Was a regular customer every week ! Maybe twice a week !! This behavior is horrible!! How can we support business when businesses don't respect customers?? Never believed that this behavior can be associated with Japanese culture ! First time I went my Boston roll tasted like feet. I decided to give them another chance, because there aren't many other sushi places around. I want them to succeed. But I just can't do it. The sushi is average at best, comparable to food court sushi. Not only that but it's overpriced, and takes a long time. If you order a take out meal that costs more than $20, it shouldn't be taped up with scotch tape. More like Ari-Nope-y. read more

Really really disappointing. Service was good. Ambience was nice, but the sushi might as well have been from a groceries store. The fish wasn't bad quality but the rice was gummy and unseasoned. I've only been here twice, but each time I've been here its been a solid experience. It's definitely authentic Japanese having a mostly Japanese staff and many local neighborhood Japanese patrons. To the owner/manager of this restaurant: I feel so sorry that you may have to spend more time to train your staffs. During the peak time, the staff who pick up the call for delivery-the way how she treated customers is like really bitchy and shitty. We do understand that it must be really busy at that time; however, as the common sense we all have, customers are not supposed to be treated in this way. Food was fine, but their service attitude of picking up call from customers is too bad to be acceptable. So please- make sure your staffs have been trained appropriately before they really get to interact with customers, otherwise we will be worried when the restaurant is gonna loose their customers and shut down soon. read more
