We live a few blocks from here and it's our favorite spot in the neighborhood. Been coming here for more than 10 years and never disappointed with the food. Great sushi, bento boxes, even their ramens are so good! My fave here is the geso (fried squid in vinegar sauce yum!) and green tea ice cream. I have been going to this restaurant for many years. It was much smaller many years ago on the next block. Pound for pound, meaning if you combine quality, taste, price, cleanliness, service, food...I have never found a better restaurant and I have been to hundreds of them. I have been to restaurants with slightly better food, been to restaurants that have been slightly cheaper, been to restaurants with slightly better service and decor but if you combine all of the factors...nothing beats this restaurant. It is a gem and the plum wine is addicting. I dream about it and actually purchased a bottle from the wine store next to the restaurant(the restaurant owner was nice enough to tell me where he gets it) but believe it or not it was not as good as the glass at the restaurant. There is nothing not to recommend. Although I don't eat sushi, I have been told it is the best in Queens. The tery., tempura dinners..all variations of them are excellent. My friends and family have just about eaten everything on the menu and everything was good to excellent. The dumpling appet. is excellent. My sister makes a special trip just to east the seaweed appet., if you like that stuff. The sake and plum wine are addicting and too cheap to believe and so are the general prices in the restaurant. 20 yrs ago the plum wine was $3 a glass, now I think it's $4.50...still a steal. Used to be one of my favorites, but not anymore after tonight dinner. Miso soup was so salty that I had to send it back. Tuna rolls and tuna ( from Sushi delux) tasted like just defrosted, so nasty frozen watery taste was there. All Sushi was sliced so thin like a paper, and sushi rice was formed so big, and had no sushi vinegrette flavor. Moreover, my daughter started having a stomache after finishing dinner. This is just THE BEST place! Love the service, love the atmosphere, love the food, love the prices. I used to live in Sunnyside, and this was my go-to sushi restaurant. I remembered it being pretty good, so when I was just back in Queens for the US OPEN, my hubby and I stopped in again. TERRIFIC! The bacon-wrapped enoki mushrooms were incredible, as was the salmon collar special. The rolls were delicious and the sake was a great price. We also got dumplings to go -- the round steamed shrimp ones and the veggie gyoza were delicious. If this place were in Boston (!), I'd go everyday! Ariyoshi is an all-around great restaurant--the sashimi is fresh, the regular maki rolls are good, and they have some creative sushi dishes. Plus, the prices are very decent, whether you order only sushi or one of their combination deals. This is a great typical Japanese restaurant. It has a great selection of dishes. I would highly recommend the bento box as it has a lot of food to fill you up as well as a soup on the side. I would say that it is a bit pricey especially because you have to spend $20+ to use a credit card, otherwise you have to pay in cash. Always busy but there's always a table available somehow. Family and date friendly. Wait staff is nice and there's always some specials going on (10-15% off, free dessert). Pitiful portions. I had ordered a couple of rolls from here a few of months ago and they were pretty meh (fish to rice ratio was terrible and the rolls were so tiny!). So mad at myself for even giving this place another try. I ordered the salmon sashimi app ($10.50) for pick-up and it was so small I almost walked back into the restaurant to confront them about it. 5 tiny squares of fish (not even the typical rectangular sashimi slices). Not to mention the fish quality was mediocre at best...fishy tasting. I've had higher quality fish and double the portion for the same price at multiple sushi places in Manhattan. Super bummed, what a waste of $$$. Also, nobody greets you at the front of the restaurant, making the entrance super awkward. You enter and stand around waiting, and then have to trounce back through to the back of the restaurant to find an employee. Definitely won't make the same mistake a third time. read more

I've been coming here since I was a little kid (30 years ago!) and they have some of the best entrees. Chicken teriyaki is delicious and I love the pickled cabbage and seasoned bean sprouts they come with - sometimes I ask for more! The sushi is good and fresh and the boat comes with a lot of food. I love the kijidon udon combinations where you can get a little bit of chicken and rice and a little soup and noodles - great for the kids! We need a better sushi restaurant in the area. I've had the sushi a couple of times and both times was left feeling like I wasted my money. I mean, it's not horrible, but I've had better, much better! What's wrong with the sushi? Well, the fish just never seemed to be prepared properly. It seems they hack it up, then slapped them on Chinese-restaurant quality rice. There's nothing wrong with Chinese restaurant rice, but they shouldn't be used for sushi. I've gone back numerous times for the udon and katsu dishes and those dishes left me very satisfied. read more

I have been eating at Ariyoshi for well over 15 yrs. However, the quality from the early days is far gone. It is just so average now. Been going down a bit for a while, but I definitely was in denial until my last visit...wow big change. We usually order the ariyoshi salad, salmon teriyaki, shrimp tempura, udon soups and assorted rolls. The rolls were the biggest disappointment...very buffet style quality. The seafood avocado salad shrank but the amazing salad dressing was still spot on. My entrees were all fine but nothing to return to sunnyside for. Heard they have switched owners so will probably wait a while before trying again, if ever. The staff was attentive as always. read more

My girlfriend and I have been ordering delivery from Ariyoshi at least once a week, for almost a year. In all that time they have yet to deliver a single incorrect, or late order. The fish is as fresh (if not more fresh) and as well prepared as any I've seen in the city - and the few times we've dined at the restaurant itself, our experiences were wonderful. All that said, what's prompting me to write this (my first) Yelp review is the almost supernatural speed with which our dinner order was just delivered. it took exactly 10 minutes for the food to arrive after placing the order on Seamless - and we live about 5 blocks away! I don't even know how this is possible but the order was flawless and everything was as delicious as usual. Please support these guys. They're magicians and I love them. read more

Came here for family dinner on a Sunday night. There aren't many good Japanese restaurants in Queens and Ariyoshi is probably one of the few. I had to convince my Dad that we didn't have to line a noodle or pizza place after we ate here. We got the seafood combo set, beef sukiyaki, and beef teriyaki. We added the ribs with their house special sauce and a dragon roll. The meal included the house salad with some tasty dressing. The bill came out to be about $60 with tax and tip. They give you 10% off if you like their Facebook page. The food is very fresh and portion size is ample. I was a little shocked at the size of the beef Sukiyaki when it came out. The food tasted good but it wasn't a party in my mouth. The only thing that peeed me off was getting the attention of the waiter. The waiter walked past me four times. I finally just grabbed him after waving my arms every time to get the bill. Place is clean and was probably 3/4 full on a Sunday night. They have metered parking in front and across the street (free on Sundays). They will do group parties here for $25 a head. A good place for a reasonable meal, but nothing fancy. read more

This is my go-to place when I'm with friends and we're craving some sushi. I really like this place. Not too pricy, the ambiance is nice, and the waiters there are also good too. I think that they're just a bit...unprofessional. I remember going there once with a group of friends and the waiter blatantly flirted with my friend there, and it just made it really awkward since it was me and 3 other friends. Then, while waiting for the same friend who was in the bathroom, the waiter comes up to me and tells me to give it to her after she came out. The place is pretty big but narrow and sorta dim, the atmosphere is friendly and simple, nothing fancy like for a date, but good for a chill out food fest. The food is cheap and really good. Get the combos, they fill u up, which I didnt think Japanese food could accomplish and u get to try a chicken terriyaki and udon or something. And I love the price! Its cheap like $10 to $15. Friend recommend this place for lunch. My friend showed up super late but even the whole time I was waiting the waiter and waitress would made sure my water cup was filled and would check on me time to time. I had their fried squid appetizer with ponzu sauce. It was pretty yummy. Finally my friend arrived and we split a chicken teriyaki lunch combo and their sunnyside roll. The chicken teriyaki was kinda meh... chicken was dry but the sides that came with it, the ginger dressing salad, the gyoza, the rice was good. The sunnyside roll is very good. I only ordered sushi twice so i can't really speak of other foods. first time when i ordered spicy salmon and spicy tuna roll from them, they were pretty good and delivery was quite fast (even tho not as fast as TJ). second time i ordered salmon roll and spicy salmon roll, man the rice came off the nori and the salmon tasted funny. I was not sure whether i placed an order at a wrong time or what ( it was close to closing time ) but i don't think i will order sushi from them again. maybe i'll try ordering their hot foods instead. read more
