Ok so this is the best place I've ever been in 23 years of life on this earth. First of all everything in the building is hand made from the ground up. I'm talking tables, chairs, mirrors, hand painted mural on the ceiling over the 3 layer seemingly mile long bar with a custom built library style sliding ladder. All respect due from the minute you walk through the huge front door. But that's not even why you go out right? You go out to eat good, drink great, and of course for the atmosphere. The Armory DE is a 5 star across the board in every category. With a friendly and impressively intelligible bar tending staff, and some of the best food available in the world, (yes I said world one of the owners is Hungarian, you've never eaten like this before) The ArmouryDE delivers on an unexpected but greatly appreciated level every time. The DAMN burger is made from a brisket and short rib blend and is seriously one for the record books. The steak salad has half a cow of perfectly cooked and seasoned flank steak with grilled peaches and locally crafted blue cheese crumbles. For the ballsy adventurous eater they even serve a delicious duck wing appetizer and cactus fries, which are both surprisingly amazing even though they are a more colored out of the lines approach. So let's talk drinks. You've never seen a more extensive bar. I challenge ANY liquor connoisseur to walk into The AmouryDE and try to name even HALF of the selection in this place without asking a question or two. The Bonnie and Clyde is a new twist on an Old fashioned, one in which they literally smoke cedar into every glass for a crazy flavor. Service? Top notch. T Pain is a next level amazing sever. If you want to get a table and skip on the bar environment for a slightly more intimate setting, REQUEST THIS MAN!!! He is funny, quick witted, and incredibly coherent. If you love good service that completely skips the norm settle for nothing less than the amazing T PAIN (don't rob yourself of the opportunity). Decent eats for pub / drunk food in Deep Ellum. My S.O. ordered the burger with fries and both were cooked well and flavorful. No complaints here. What we did have an issue with was the Hungarian crepe. I don't think this restaurant is Hungarian at all. The Hungarian crepe tasted like a Mexican Crepe. It was slathered in a ridiculous amount of chipotle mayo, subpar cubed chicken, and bell peppers. I really don't recommend that dish. I ordered some fruity cocktail which was pretty good and they do have a pretty good selection of cocktails here so that's a plus. Service was just okay, but a bit standoffish. It's one of those places that try to act really hipster by having the male waiters grow out farmer beards. Overall, this is a good place for burgers and American pub fare, but don't expect Hungarian food or anything that special. read more

This place is so cool! We ended up stopping by last night for a drink and we all had a great time. The Armoury is a smaller, dimly-lit place with little seating near the bar inside and a small ish outdoor patio covered by a large tree, giving it a canopy feel. They also have a stage outside where bands perform live music. Their drink menu is on the pricier side ($10-13 per cocktail), but everything looked crafty and delicious. One of my friends ordered a smokey old fashioned for which they lit the bar on fire and placed the glasses top down on top of the fire to smoke the inside of the glass before pouring in the whiskey. Even though I'm not a whiskey fan, I loved this concept. I opted for a cider, which tasted good and was fairly priced at $5. I'm glad we stumbled upon the Armoury! I'll be back. read more

Best bar in Deep Ellum. We stumbled upon this gem purely because of the sign. My husband and I just moved to Texas from Colorado three months ago and this will be our new place to eat or just drink. The moment you walk in you are immediately captivated by the fairytale bookshelf stocked with countless choices of liquor. The smokey wood smell reminded me of Vail. My sister and boyfriend are visiting from Denver and could not get enough of their house cocktails. I'm always on the lookout for unique food so I was intrigued by the menu here that listed many Hungarian dishes. Upon arrival I was surprised that it was not a fancy, white tablecloth type of place, but rather a dark and casual bar with a fully stocked bar. Our server was T Pain and besides his amazing name, he was super friendly, giving us a good idea of what food to order since we had already eaten beforehand. We ended up with the charred pulpo (octopus) which is one of the more popular appetizers, and the porkolt, a Hungarian pot roast dish. Both were delicious and I regretted having eaten elsewhere beforehand because I wanted to try some of the other dishes too. This seems like the perfect spot for a casual date. Prices are extremely reasonable. There were a few people at the bar and just us at a table when we first arrived, but by the time we left around 10:30pm, every table and the bar was full - and this was a Monday night! read more

Off the bat this place is awesome, try it out this quickly came up as my favorite new spot in deep Ellum. Decor and vibe are a mixture of prohibition area, exposed brick with a bit of a dive bar esc feel. Once you see the alcohol selection and the craft cocktail angle of this establishment you quickly realize that it's anything but. The drinks are amazing; we tried the peach cream Bourbon and the spicy tequila infused cocktail both top notch with craftsmanship technique. Think blow torch. The real star of the show hear is surprisingly the food. The pork fritters were highly recommended and did not disappoint. The Mecca of food here though it's clearly the octopus. It's a must try for any food person in Dallas. It was real to perfection and was juicy and very meaty when you asked the bartender or any staff member their eyes glow with enthusiasm towards this dish. I will say this - to your average eater...if you are not a fancy foodie...you may be a tad intimidated by the menu. I actually had a friend decide to pass on the food because the brunch meats were a little on the different side. Beef cheek, gyulai sausage, duck and pork belly, oh my! And trust me, it is all delicious. I am glad I trusted my instincts and decided to stay. Actually I've dropped in to this spot a few times for beverages but this was the first time I've sat down for a true blue meal. The food is Hungarian but the brunch menu has a lot of items that are just your regular breakfast-y type of eats. I got an omelet with aged cheddar, portobello mushrooms/veggies, jalapeño bacon that comes with home fries. The home fries are hearty and satisfying. Make sure someone at the table also gets the chicken biscuit (it said something fancier on the menu) thingy with the sauce and potatoes. It is massive and they won't finish it so they will have no choice but to share (and if they don't they are not your friend anyway so you're welcome). I'll be back. Dare I say to try the beef cheek. I went to Armoury for brunch. Though I've been later later at night for drinks, I had never eaten there. It fits the artsy/grungy type atmosphere of deep Ellum while maintaining a bit of class. We got there around noon and there were plenty of places to sit. The waitress was prompt and social. I got the rakott krumpli and my friend got the turul lacoma. The food quantity was not overwhelming but was plenty. We were both stuffed afterwards. The rakott krumpli was hearty and I would imagine is definitely comfort food in the Hungarian culinary world. The turul lacoma was excellent. The eggs were a great combination with the sausage and crepe. Deep Ellum is always a blast and I would definitely recommend this spot. read more

The food here is awesome. My friends and I stopped in for cocktails and an app, and walked away trying the best octopus to date. The octopus has a great char without overly crisping the ends and still remaining so tender, The portion size was HUGE as well. The rest of the menu had so many things I wanted to try- I will 100% come back. Why not 5 stars? We requested a gin cocktail to be replaced with vodka which they didn't mind but then gave us gin. Then I paid our waitress for the food and she dropped my card in the back and couldn't find it, then proceeded to insist I didn't give it to her. Husband and I were in the area that night for a concert and decided to give Armoury D E a try before going to the show. It was about 8PM on a Friday night and the place was packed. The bar and tables were all full but we somehow got a table fairly quickly. Our server was very friendly and even though she was swamped, you could never tell. We ordered the Pork Belly Fritters, Charred Pulpo, Cactus Fries and the Damn Burger. What can I say, we love to eat. The fritters are delicious if you're into the whole sweet and salty thing. Pork wrapped in funnel cake. Yum. The orange sauce that came with it was a bit too sweet for me. Be forewarned though, they are heavy tasting. The cactus fries were ok, it's something to get if you've never tried it before. The Damn Burger was like any other burger that you could get at these gastro pubs. If you like burgers than try it. The best thing I ate was definitely the charred pulpo. I've had it many times at other venues and Armoury D E has one of the best I've ever had. It was cooked perfectly. Tender and so juicy. The charring added a crispy outside which brought out the spices the chef uses. If you could only get one item from the menu to eat, get this. You will not be disappointed. We didn't try any of their house specialty drinks but we did order a White Russian and a Moscow Mule. It was heavy on the liquor which is just how we like it. A lot of bars skimp on the liquor and you end up with a watery drink. Not here. Thank you Mr. Bartender. Overall, I would go here again. The food is good, and the drinks are damn good. read more

This is a hard review for me. I am Hungarian, so I was so excited to find a new restaurant that featured Hungarian dishes. That being said, the food was good for being made with American ingredients, but didn't have that pizzazz that I had hoped for. Hats off to the owners for getting the food out there. I will be returning and I am looking forward to it. We didn't try the core Hungarian food, like the chicken paprikas or gulyas, so that will probably seal the deal for me. The langos, the charcuterie, the fasirt were all delicious, just lacked that special something. Don't get wrong, I will be eating them all again! I also love the fact that they had Hungarian cocktails on the menu as well as shots. Being able to order a shot of slivovitz or zwack in a restaurant made the night in itself. Came here for cocktails for a friend's birthday... surprised to learn they serve Hungarian food!! From langos (Hungarian fried bread) to chicken paprikas (chicken with a paprika sauce over dumplings), I was pleased to see authentic Hungarian items on the menu. Absolutely will be back to try these! We had primarily drinks this visit - the Ruby's Revolver and Lone Gunman were delicious - we had asked for recommendations for drinks on the sweeter side. There was quite a range for cocktails - well drinks starting at $5 and craft cocktails around $12. My main critique of this visit is the bathroom situation. My husband and I had walked around Deep Ellum during a random afternoon and we found ourselves here at Armoury D.E (which I assume means "Deep Ellum). From the outside, it looks very rustic and you can't really see the inside as the windows are closed off. When you go inside, it definitely has a dark European vibe. There is a bar but also a good number of tables to dine in. The menu is pretty interesting, especially with appetizers such as octopus and veal testicles (we look forward to trying those next time). Towards the back is an outdoor patio, which is kind of small and has a different vibe from the inside as there are brightly colored murals, similar to what you would see all around Deep Ellum. We just came here for drinks, in which my husband got the Bonnie and Clyde and I got the Pina Colada #2. The Bonnie and Clyde was pretty much an old fashioned that is first prepared by adding cedar plank smoke first inside the glass. So many people were ordering this drink, we most have seen 15 glasses being prepared in the hour that we were there. We had asked the bartender if this was their most popular drink, in which he confirmed yes. My husband enjoyed his drink, and I enjoyed mine. We went to the Armoury to avoid the line at dada's, the music venue next door. Got there early for a show. Saw the line and kept walking to the Armoury. Ordered a couple of drinks from T Pain. Then went and saw the show. After the show we went back for dinner. Again, T Pain was our server. He remembered us and the drinks we ordered. Can't beat that service!! We started with the fried cheese. OMG!!! Just order it. Don't say anything after you've had the first bite. I guarantee you. You will be amazed. Next course was the meatballs. Again, amazing. I've been here 3 times and the last 2 times were because I genuinely could not stop thinking about their damn good burger. It is probably the best burger I have ever eaten. Their cocktail selection is great too, my favorite is the lone gunman. This is a seat yourself kind of place and first come first serve, but I haven't had a problem getting a table any time I've cone. Food is tasty, well-priced and heavy so expect to get full easily. Short but good selection of wines for good prices. Cocktails are hit or miss, Vulgar display of sour (cool Pantera reference BTW!) was balanced and refined while See no evil is like a disappointing negroni. Service was good, food came out pretty quickly, interior is nice and kitchen opens until late, very convenient! It's taken me awhile to write this review, but here's another great bar in Deep Ellum. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. Growing up in Chicago, I love the décor. The wooden bar and the dark wood and brick walls are awesome. The place is dimly illuminated with a large door that's open to the street and a cool little patio out back which gives Armoury a great vibe. I've been ducking in here over the last year or so. It's a great place to just hang out with friends. The bartenders are quite cool to chat with and watching them make drinks is entertaining. They torch a wooden plank then placing a glass over it to catch the smoke that gives your drink a smoky flavor. They have a great listing of house cocktails with something for everyone. Two of my favorite cocktails; La Zorra - tequila, luxardo maraschino liqueur, damiana, grapefruit, lime, agave. Hell Hound - del maruey vida mezcal, habanero agave, orange and chocolate bitters. They have a massive selection of beers both bottles and cans. The draft selection alternates, so there's always something different to try. Their spirits inventory is even larger. If you enjoy sitting back and sipping liquor, you will love Armoury DE! They will have nearly any whiskey, gin, rum, or vodka you can imagine. It's an impressive collection. Now for one of my favorite things...FOOD!! There's some seriously delightful bar cuisine here. But my favorites; Csavargò - Pork belly and Gyulai Hungarian sausage, shredded greens, house pickled jalapeños, tomatoes, bearded bitch mustard, on a panini bread. This is one of my favorite sandwiches anywhere. Truly amazing! The Hungarian sausage is to die for. Meat & Cheese Board - Your choice of several types of meat and cheeses. Along with these couple of items, they have a nice selection of small plates and then there's the Pörkölt - It's beef roast in a pepper sauce...another appealing dish. Rachel is the best bartender and We asked about the cheeseboard and she put her own cheese board together and it was amazing. She was very attentive and was and bubbly person. One of the "MUST GO" places in Deep Ellum. We've stopped in here several times in the past couple years, and it never disappoints. One of my two favorite places for a truly craft cocktail, watching these folks make a drink, and particularly our favorite Meagan, is half the fun. She's great!!! My husband swears by their Old Fashioned - "Bonnie and Clyde", I prefer the "Lulu Clavo" - a tequila based drink topped off with a flame kissed jalapeno slice. They are also happy to play if you let them, tell them you like a few ingredients, they'll create something special just for you. Check out the weekend brunch drinks, too!! And the food? They light it on fire which adds a nice smokey taste (subtle, just right). The bartenders are conversational and it's always been easy to get drinks (granted I've been two times on a Sunday during the day).
