We stopped here for a bite to eat before a concert at Dos Equis pavilion on a Sunday afternoon. I wasn't really hungry so I had the cold cherry soup. My husband had pork chops. We both had some drinks. I had the Lone Gunman cocktail and he had some different beers. Drinks were fantastic. I don't really recommend the cold cherry soup by itself. It was fabulous but it was too much sweet cherry all by itself. It would be delicious with some sort of pastry or something to offset how sweet it is. Or it may go well with some milk or yogurt. I don't know. My husband's pork chops were fantastic. I would definitely recommend those. The atmosphere was very casual. I wish we would have went out to the patio but we didn't. Cool little bar in Deep Ellum. I would recommend checking it out if you are in the area. They smoke their glasses for certain drinks which is really cool. They have a plank of wood on the bar that they will torch to get it on fire/smoke and put a glass over so it fills with the smoke which gives it a strong smokey smell/flavor. read more

came here specifically for the octopus as it's been on my radar to try for awhile now. a few other items caught my interest on the menu too, so i tried them out as well. regarding the octopus, its a very light tatsing meat, almost flavorless without seasoning. i'm not sure what they seasoned it with, but i thought it had a zestiness to it along with the charred flavor. the waiter said its marinated for days. as for texture, its like calamari. makes a good appetizer for 2-3 people. my hubby got the "damn burger" which is a 8oz short rib/brisket blend. juicy & hearty with all the stuff they piled on it. he also added egg & duck bacon. YUP, duck bacon! i never knew it was a thing. i ordered a side of it just for myself & i'm officially a fan! as much as i love pork bacon, if i had to choose, i would go for the duck bacon, plus it seems healthier & leaner too. next on the list, i had the beef stew. very hearty & meaty, with potatoes, onions, peppers, carrots. bursting with all kinds of flavors. we also had the cold cucumber salad & brussel sprouts as sides. i was impresssed with both. cucumbers seemed like they were pickled or had been marinated in something. whatever it was, it worked. and the brussel sprouts seemed like they had garlic butter & parmesean on them. again, not sure what they did, but it worked again. overall great experience here. its right in the midst of deep ellum. dive bar vibe with a large patio in the back. I heard Armoury DE was good for drinks and immediately bookmarked. I kept telling myself I'd eventually make it out to deep ellum to no avail. However when I read they had french toast that incorporates cocoa krispies, I made a trip out here for brunch with my fellow foodie Stacy Y immediately. The space is smaller than I'd imagined but it wasn't crowded. Our server was prompt and helpful as we looked over the menu though I, of course, already knew what I wanted. The French toast came out and I think my eyes bulged out of my head. It came with a side of Nutella, fruit, and some kind of whipped cream. Be still my heart. All of it was SO GOOD. I was surprised at how I didn't even need syrup or anything as the toast was so sweet already. I love nutella but I was only lightly dipping every now and then. That's how chocolatey it is. Definitely order this but be warned you might be at higher risk for diabetes afterward. read more

I love this place. I took 5 friends here for the duck bacon hamburger. My friend said it was the best burger they have ever had. They have a library full of drinks. It reminds me of a place that should be in NYC. The only thing I wish is that they had more seating for people to eat dinner. Their patio is ok, in Texas the weather is not conducive for outside patio not covered.The service was superb. It's first come first serve which at times is cumbersome. I came to this place because of the fantastic Yelp reviews. When I came to the bar with my friends, I ordered 2 drinks - the Lulu Clavo & Old Fashion. The bartender lady really spent time making those 2 drinks, and honestly, they tasted fantastic. She actually smoked the jalapeno that went inside my Lulu Clavo. I paid for those 2 drinks, tipped her, and went about my way. Now here's where the review gets bad. My other friend asked me to go to the bar and get a round of 6 drinks for him.Since I was closest to the bar, I was talking to the same bartender lady and gave her his card. Now, I gave it back to my friend to sign and put the paper on the bar table. The bartender lady taps my shoulder and asks me, "how was the service?" I replied with, "it was great thanks!". She then rolls her eyes, looks at the receipt, then stares at me... Lady, I'm not the one who paid for those drinks nor was I the one to sign/tip it. If you remember correctly, I tipped you properly on my first 2 drink orders. My friend who ordered the round of 6 is from out of country - where tipping is not normal. Instead of giving me the meanest and rudest look, you can just suck it up or ask why he tipped low rather than being so passive aggressive. Please teach the staff better manners. read more

Cocktail comes out tasting exactly like prepackaged margarita mix, 1/2 a shot of bottom shelf tequila, and had slice of jalapeño thrown in for poor presentation. Cocktail wasn't spicy....at all. Mentioned this to the server who whisked my drink away for the bartender to throw jalapeño juice in it. Literally, this was my experience. Came here the other night and was blown away with the combination of creativity in their cocktails and friendly service. Some Dallas bars might try to get away with so-called specialty drinks by muddling a few limes and calling it a new twist on a gin and tonic but oh no, you're not going to get that here! Look around and you might just catch a glimpse of smoke being infused in a glass while someone's lighting up something else to create a new flavor combo.- very crafty folks, very crafty! Armoury DE is a Deep Ellum staple. I have been going to Armoury DE since its opening. I continue to return because of their cocktails. They make the best cocktails in Dallas. No one can touch their concoctions. My favorites are See No Evil, Last Caress, and Mr. Pink. Second, their food is top-notch. At night, you can smell the kitchen's creations from outside. It likens heaven. Usually, I snag a Damn Burger. The meat melts into your mouth. Forget the other burger joints on the block, you need to eat theirs. Third, Armoury DE has a great atmosphere. The lighting is dim; the decor is industrial. Seating is limited. So, if you're wanting to grab a bite, you should arrive early. If you're just looking to drink, there is some standing room and a back patio. read more

The octopus and cucumber salad were outstanding. The patio area was relaxed and open. The drink menu was extensive. Lows: the service was a bit spotty. Just about everything was way too salty. The saltiness overwhelmed the meats, especially the appetizers, and entrees like the porkolt and paprikas chicken. The latter was pounded instead off falling off the bone the way it's meant to be. The lecso was disappointing. It was watery and unsavory. I'd really like to go back if they raised their game on the Hungarian food. read more

Unquestionably the best cocktail bar in DFW. The bar tenders are knowledgeable and skillful. So much so you'd think your in a real city. The cocktails and drinks put out here are well thought out and very well crafted. The food is as delicious as the drinks. The octopus is perhaps the most well prepared version in town and a must order. The duck wing drums to samosas are all also very tasty. The location is a shit hole or as others call deep ellum "very hip". A nightmare to park and nowhere you'd want to park with a decent car. Great spot to uber to and consume ample amounts of cocktails and makes for a perfect date spot. The interior is nice but seating at the tables for full food service is a first come first serve. It can be difficult to get a table on busier nights so be prepared to wait if your coming to eat as well as drink. They have a nice courtyard out back when its nice out with live bands which can be cool. Overall place is well worth a visit and one of my go to cocktail bars and date spots. read more

2016 Yelp 100 Challenge Review #76 Looking to grab dinner in Deep Ellum on a Thursday night. Hankering for a great hamburger led us here. Their burger is an 8oz. blend of short rib and brisket. It is serves on a challah bun. I added pecan smoked bacon which was a smart move - delish! The burger, itself, is called the Damn Burger and it is that good. I really enjoyed it because it was very much a craft burger. You can just tell it is handled with care and quality from the ingredients to the preparation. The burgers come with parmesan fries which were excellent. Sometimes, I don't like parmesan fries but these were done just right. We didn't partake in anything else but the food was excellent and the customer service was even better thanks to Jerrika! Highly recommended and yes I will return. read more

We chose this spot for a cocktail and dinner before a show at Trees since it right across the street. What a gem! The cocktail list is extensive. We had several different cocktails and they were all skillfully prepared and delicious. A little pricey, but I don't mind paying for a craft cocktail. The menu is very interesting. Mixture of bar food, Hungarian items, and trendy odds and ends like octopus and chicharrones. We started with chicharrones with the ranch spices. You get a big ole bag of um, and they were excellent- crunchy and fresh tasting. Then we tried the octopus. It is a big serving as far as octopus goes and I thought it was fantastic with the accompanied dipping sauce. I had the S&M salad which was good, nothing noteworthy. My bf had the burger, which was very good as well (although he is a burger snob and was not wowed). We left and went to our show very full and happy. Several hours and many drinks later we actually returned! A night of dancing brought on some late night hunger... and this place.... serves food til 2 AM! We had the Rantott Sanj (fried cheese). It was sinfully good, the cheese very warm and gooey and an interesting combo with the lingonberry sauce. We also ordered the Samosas, which were alright, but they were HUGE... not what I was expecting. It was more like a meat pie really, and didn't have much for flavor... just tasted like potato mostly to me. The food is decent enough (on the bland side), but places that charge 25.00 a person (for bar food) shouldn't leave the person feeling hungry after. the chicken paprikash had good flavor but was tough and stringy. the porkblott was more like an appetizer than a main. All of it needed a pinch of salt. I feel like this place is trying too hard to be in a category its really not in the league of just yet. The food needs more improvement . read more

We're from out of town and wandered into this place last night around 530 intending to have just one drink and hop on to the next place. We ended up staying for several hours, sitting at the bar. The atmosphere is laid back and inviting (low lighting, not too loud, at least not when we first got there). We had two seats right at the bar. The bartenders were friendly and knowledgeable, happy to talk us through their long list of unique drinks. The drinks were incredible. We decided to order charcuterie and that didn't disappoint either. Overall, a great night. Would highly recommend this spot. read more

I was so excited to try this place after my daughter raved about the octopus. But it was just sad. Monday night about 8:30 but they were full inside. We grabbed a table on the patio. Atmosphere is super and the menu is innovative; heavy on Hungarian dishes. 15 minutes and nothing and we got menus dropped. 15 minutes later we got water and drink orders in. About 10 minutes later we got drinks and our orders in. My husband's beer was the wrong order but the waiter was running away far too quickly to address it. Later in the evening, the waiter spilled the beer and laughed about it. No, he didn't replace it and admitted to bringing the wrong order anyway. We ordered the double cup of goulash and the fried cheese for apps. Cheese great, goulash was nothing like I had in Budapest or anywhere else, but tasty and spicy. We ordered 2 octopi. 1 chicken paprikash, and 1 beef tips in Hungarian gravy. It took awhile but we were enjoying ourselves. Sadly, the octopus was terrible. Tasted fishy-Means it was not fresh-and the outer skin had not been pulled during preparation. I said nothing, my daughter's (this is her go to place for octopus in Dallas) face fell. Everyone agreed. This was not the night for octopus. Since, it's been so good in the past, we will try it again. Hopefully, they will have enough wait staff and the regular chef working. read more

Dropped by here while in the area about 2 weeks ago on a Saturday. This is one of the newer bars in the area. This was my second time to check this place out. It wasn't too busy on Saturday around 3. Good selection of local beers on draft and cool selection of mixed drinks. I didn't try any but they look interesting and I'm sure they are good. We weren't going to dinner for awhile so opted to order and appetizer. Almost every review on yelp said to order the octopus so we did. They were right, this did not disappoint! One of the best prepared octopus I've ever had. Cooked perfectly with just the right amount of sear and seasoning. This is a definite must get if you are here! My first visit wasn't my favorite because I wasn't in the mood and wanted to be somewhere else. This place puts some effort into their cocktails, so don't expect low prices. They're average prices for craft cocktails but not what many people expect from Deep Ellum. However, it blends well with what DE is becoming. They also offer beer and cider. The charred pulpo is the reason I returned. A friend gave me a bite during my first visit. I returned and ordered it myself. I almost ordered a salad in addition to the octopus. However, the Octopus is a large enough portion that you don't need sides unless you feel guilty about only eating octopus and no greens. The spices, oil, & lime pair well with the charred tentacles. Don't let the outside fool you. This place is great for lunch, but looks sort of like a dive bar on the outside. Warm and friendly inside. Ate here for lunch with my friend whose parents are Hungarian. She loved everything she saw on the menu and could actually pronounce the names. My impression was that this was great Hungarian soul food that her mom made at home all the time. She had the Chicken Paprikas and I had the Porkolt (braised pork, falling apart tender and stewy). Awesome, large portions served with brown butter nokedli (spaetzle) or brown butter potatoes. We also had langos (fried bread) to start that was served with a dollop of sour cream, minced raw garlic and a cream cheese spread that I can't remember the name of.
