This review is long overdue. We came to them in mid December to get new carpet for our new place. The timing was very tricky because of the holiday but Chris was very helpful throughout the whole process from suggesting the best color, ordering and scheduling the installation. The technicians who installed our carpet also did such a great job. I'm a happy customer and would highly recommend them. They're very efficient and communicative. We love our new carpet - it's super comfy. They also made some rugs from leftover carpet for us. read more

Don't buy from this business. They are dishonest and will rip you off as they did me. I paid for an overpriced rug pad and instead of getting the five feet by seven feet piece, Andrew gipped me and gave me seven inches less on both sides. I discovered it when I was laying my 5x7 carpet and saw I was shorted, dashing my entire project. I asked Andrew for a refund, he refused. They were unbelievably helpful, and they had great options. My bathroom floor has always been a broken mess of old tile. Since we're renting I did not want to tear it all up. I wanted to lay something down on top of the tile that would be easier to keep clean and look a lot better. I called this store and the person on the phone was so helpful. He explained how I could do this. When I came in everyone was very kind and very helpful showing me what my options were and how I could achieve the look I wanted. Response to owners question: The name is under my partner's name so I can ask them to provide proof of service if that's what you need to believe a customer's complaint. We experienced the same gaslighting and it took multiple attempts to get anyone to believe our complaint, and required someone from the business to come over to see and believe the mess your guy created. If the service person isn't a contractor then it feels like an even worse offense given they did nothing to prep the space or create any form of barrier to contain the dust and debris from floor tile extraction. I understand businesses want to verify if a review is from a legit customer. We had a great experience with the store sales person and we were excited about getting new tiles. We were told the service person who came to our house was a contractor so you tell us if we were lied to. Overall, it's disappointing to see the continued questioning from the business about our complaint and no real accountability or apology. read more

Ordered carpet (high end 100% wool carpet, more than $7000 for about 300 square feet) from them in September for installation in late November- wanted to make sure I the carpet would be available given long lead times today. Called them to schedule installation date and.... suddenly the carpet is not available from the distributor for some months. No advance notice to me that it was not going to be available during the prior two months Unfortunately I'm out of town and they are trying to email me pictures of carpet samples which is a disaster- who can tell true color or texture from a photo. Finally I go to a local carpet store on my holiday and have to work with them remotely to see where the carpet in the local store and Armstrong overlap. Finally find something, but the delay is two more weeks Installation day. They don't have my contractors contact information, though they have worked with him frequently. I have to go over to let them in. Installation all day, guys are nice. Then in the afternoon disaster- the process they were using to attach the carpet to the stairs (they had done an on-site quote, so knew what material the stairs are) fails completely. There is a lot of consternation but nothing concrete about what is to be done until I started pushing them Finally I talk to someone named Kevin at Armstrong who is alternatively dismissive of me and acting like it's my problem not his. Zero customer service. Zero empathy or apology for the situation So a one day carpet installation is now onto another day and with still uncertain results Inspected the portion of the carpet installed in the bedroom and they scraped a huge amount of paint off the walls and left the transition from where the carpet ends and the vinyl under that washer/dryer ragged and uncovered (no transition board You can see both these things in the pictures I like supporting local businesses, but I can't recommend this place-they don't seem to be able to manage the inventory acquisition nor manage the installation and don't seem to care much about either I've had much better luck (though not as nice quality carpet) with Home Depot read more

He left the place spotless too. Let me just say that from beginning to end, the team at Armstrong provided top-notch customer service. The experience working with Armstrong vs. another company was like night and day. Let me explain: First, I had dropped by another flooring store to get some help. The salesperson there was borderline rude and dismissive, so I asked around for other recommendations, and Armstrong came up. A coworker/friend whose family has worked with Armstrong for years to update their home highly recommended them; in fact, she raved about the great job they did for her mom's kitchen. I called and spoke with Andrew over the phone, explaining what I wanted, and he understood immediately. Even over the phone, the service far surpassed that of the other company, which is nuts. Kevin came by to take measurements and provide and estimate, and we quickly scheduled a time to have carpet and vinyl flooring installed. Everything was installed in one day, the old flooring hauled away, and the new floors look great! No seams in the carpet at all, and I'm super happy with the work. My condo had a fire and needed the entire carpet to be replaced. Armstrong gave us many samples to chose from and a new carpet was perfectly installed. After the istallation we noticed a pattern flaw throughout the carpet and notified Andrew and Liem, the owner, who came out, took pictures and, worked with the manufacuter of the carpet which was replaced with our new carpet. Both installations of the carpet were done perfectly, Armstrong was so accomodating with replacing the carpet, giving us delivery dates and ensuring this would be a two day project to replace. Andrew was wonderful to work with, he understood our complaints, and was professional and polite about the first carpet install. Armstrong deserve more than 5 stars for their customer service, we have a beautiful carpet throughout our condo. read more

Armstrong is a long standing store and has been doing business in the city for YEARS! My Dad referred me to them when we decided to put carpet in our house! It was a decision that I would never regret!!! When my husband and I m went to their store in West Portal we were greeted with personable reps who listened to what we were looking for and never pressured us In any way. It took a few trips to the store to make the decision but We went with the Stainmaster tuftex. The installation was easy and went perfectly!!! We were thrilled with our new carpet! Fast forward a year and a half I noticed that the carpet was holding up like I expected it to. I called Armstrong and spoke to Liam about the issue. He came out and took a look at the carpet and I stood my concern. He explained that I refer to have my carpet cleaner per the carpet warranty and then file a claim with stainmaster. Fast forward 3 months later. Stainmaster denied our claim and just gave us suggestions on what we could do to help "fix" the problem we were having with our carpet! Fast forward another month. I thought that we were just stuck with our carpet and the issues we were having. Little did I know for the past month Liam had been fighting for us with the carpet company and the yarn manufacturer! He was able to help us find a solution that we were COMPLETELY HAPPY WITH!!! So if you're looking for a reputable carpet store that will always make sure their customers are satisfied you need look no further!!! My family is now and has been customers for life!!! Liam and Armando and the whole team were great, from start to finish. They refinished almost 1,000 sq. ft. of wooden flooring in our Outer Sunset home. We were amazed at how little dust they created and how the fumes were much less than we expected. They were fast, too, completing the work in about 7 work days. Liam and his team were responsive in the planning stages as well. After sanding, Armando pointed out some stains that wouldn't come out, and quickly gave us an estimate for replacing those parts of the floor. Awesome people who worked with my insurance company to get flooring in my condo after my upstairs neighbor flooded my home with his dishwasher! These guys are super friendly and took great care of me and even helped me get discounts on my flooring as the ones my insurance company was willing to pay for would only allow me to get vinyl. When their sub contractor didn't end up painting my baseboard and didn't do trimming, they were immediately on the case in getting all those sorted out. Super hardworking folks despite my insurance company taking a long time to process payments, they definitely gave 110% on effort for me. Also thanks to them for spending the time to explain to me in details of types of floors and working within my budget --I'm super indecisive but they spent hours talking to me and showing me all the samples they had in the store, spent more time on me than my car dealer! I've had the floors for about 6 months now and no problems despite me dropping large items, cat scratching and water spills. Just as durable as they promised plus look super high end. OK, no one paid me off, or hinted that I should make this review, but all I can say is that we ordered a couple of sets of blinds for our kitchen and bedrooms, and we could not be happier with the service that we received. Liam was our salesperson, and from the moment we walked into their store, he was as friendly, courteous and professional as a human is ever likely to achieve on this earth. He was not pushy for any extra cost options, or anything like that. Just the facts, competitive low pricing, and terrific service. After our visit to their store, Liam came out to our house (on time) to measure our blinds, and not long thereafter after comparing prices with other places, we had new blinds installed in our kitchen and bedrooms. Upon installation, a problem did come up. As it turned out, our kitchen blind was too wide to fit between the back of our faucet and the window, so Liam came out the next morning, acknowledged the issue in the friendliest way possible, and had a new set on order with absolutely NO hassle, no extra cost nor problem whatsoever. Now just one week later, we have a set of blinds we are totally and completely happy with. I give Liam @ Armstrong my highest possible rating ever. A great experience from start to finish. We were looking to replace existing carpet on a set of stairs - a relatively small project but Kevin treated us as we were his most important customer, helping with carpet selection and offering great guidance based on location of the stairs, the amount of light they get etc. After a very professional measurement of the stairs, Pedro came to install the new carpet. Again, nothing but solid focus on the project, getting the job done right and cleaning up to leave zero work for us. I tried the bigger names, but they didn't seem very interested when I told them it was for some stairs. So I'm glad I called Armstrong and it will not be the last time. read more

Basically, they are more expensive than most for the same carpet. As for customer service... here's what I got. Call time: per my cell 1:43. I called with my details all ready (sqft, 32oz cut pile, pad size) and asked for a quote, he quoted me and then I confirmed the pad size and his response was "it means more when you come in and see the selection ... I have a lot of customers in the store..." HORRIBLE customer service. I AM a customer whether I'm in the store or on the phone. GO TO STRAUS CARPET. All in all-- GREAT carpet store with great customer service. I went in looking for some carpet padding and the man at the counter said "here, Merry Christmas, pass it on" and handed me a decent sized roll of padding... for NOTHING! He then REFERRED me to another carpet store which had remnants (I only needed a little bit of carpeting), which he had, but not a lot of. A project which I thought was going to come to be at least $50 turned out to cost me $10-- thanks to the nice people who work at Armstrong Carpet & Linoleum. read more

We were kind of under the gun to get our lower level study/den and bath done with new carpet installed and linoleum in the bath AFTER we moved all of our belongings out and BEFORE the stager came. I wasn't thrilled with the commercial carpet selection, berber would have been fine, but it did the job, and we didn't have time to hem and haw. Kevin listened to me on the phone and answered my questions. He gave a reasonable quote and so I went into the store to feel the custom rug pad I was interested in buying! In the store, there is candy. And cookies, on the day I visited. I happily snacked on a few fun size butterfinger bars as the lovely experts at Armstrong assisted me, honored the quoted price that I had received on the phone, and helped me load the pad into my car once it was cut and ready. We'd put off carpeting the stairs in our house after we'd visited a couple of flooring stores and were given very high quotes by sales people who didn't seem interested in our 'little' project. A couple of weeks ago we passed by Armstrong Carpet & Linoleum and went in. We are so glad we did. Our newly carpeted stairs look great and the cost was exactly what we thought it should be. Professional service all the way, from Kevin's coming by to measure the stairs to Rob and Bob's installation. Can't say enough good things about Armstrong. We had been to so many carpet stores and I was tired of looking for the right carpet for our bedroom. I put all my faith in my husband to pick it and get it installed. Matt went to Armstrong and found something. Within the week, the carpet was installed and we love it! We dealt with both Kevin and Steve and they were both great, they helped us keep to our budget and gave great advice. I helped Filipe get all of the rugs and mats installed, and he was very pleasant and patient with my indecisiveness on how best to place the most difficult to install rug. I heart Armstrong so much :) Original Post: I can't even imagine a smoother carpet shopping experience. I would describe the customer service as: Absolutely no pressure to buy anything, just a vast knowledge of all options and a willingness to meet my expectations about aesthetic (nylon vs. wool vs. polyester and the spectrum between short vs. shag), functionality (e.g. sound absorption and grip in padding options), durability (e.g. how well it will hold up to rolling office chairs and how many years the various fibers can be expected to hold up), and a desire to make me happy by saving me money. Sure, Liam could have tried to sell me a big rug to fit under my bed, but who's looking under my bed? Instead, he helped me cut corners by showing me the stash of scrap carpet (which was still quite lovely but cheaper because no ordering was involved). Then, I was able to afford the really gorgeous area rug for my office. Overall: Fantastic. I expected to spend the entire day trying carpet stores, but even though he was very busy (probably about 10 other customers in the store while I was there) and manning the store by himself, I was in and out (with 5 custom sized pieces of rug padding and 3 new rugs, 2 of which were custom sized) in less than an hour and a half. Now I'm finished, and I have the whole rest of the day. :) I don't yelp often, but with all of the time I saved, I had to give a little back. read more

I visited and spoke with sales persons at SIX different carpet stores, all of them in San Francisco. Most staff were aloof if you said you were looking for lower-cost carpeting. Some acted as though you were an inconvenience! One person promised to measure the rooms needing carpeting and didn't show up. Most of the stores have staff working on commission. Once you are associated with one salesperson, the others are reluctant to help you if "your person" isn't there when you come back. If you don't want to spend the time doing an extensive search, visit this store in the West Portal. EVERY SINGLE PERSON I dealt with (and I dealt with 3) was courteous, friendly, informative, NOT pushy, and professional. They don't work on commission! Their prices were the best. They kept their promises. And they did an excellent job of removing old carpet and placing the new one. I am completely satisfied and would use them again. I recommend them wholeheartedly. read more

We had Armstrong replace the carpeting in two bedrooms and refinished the wood floors in our living room. (This was last fall but I'm just getting around to reviewing it now.) We were really happy with every step of the process. Super reliable and fast and did a good job. They even sent someone back to do a touch up job after we left some footprints in the finish when we walked on it too early due to a miscommunication about when it'd be dry. Highly recommended. Also when we were picking stuff out, Liam was very helpful and didn't upsell--at one point he even discouraged us from trading up to a more expensive brand because it wasn't worth the price increase. read more

My carpet was installed on Friday as planned. The only small mishap was that my appointment was at 9am but they didn't show up until 10am. I called at 920am to see what the issue was and they apologized that the installers were running a little behind schedule but that they should be at my house soon and that he would call me when they were on their way which they did. I was very happy with the installation. It was clean, neat and very professional. Additionally, Kevin stopped by halfway through the installation to see if I was happy with everything so far. The installers were in and out in 3 hours and I have that wonderful new carpet smell now. Everyone that has entered my front door has noticed and I absolutely love it! I just bought custom Hunter Douglas window blinds from these guys, and they were fantastic! Everyone I dealt with (at the store, on the phone, and in my home for measuring and installation) was really helpful and friendly, and they all paid great attention to detail to make sure everything was right. I've dealt with my share of flooring guys as well as a whole slew of other home improvement suppliers. Let me just say that the majority of the time, no purchase and installation goes without some problem. Some are the manufacturer's problem, some due to the shipper, some the local reps and some from the installers. But there's always a problem. Except for Armstrong Carpet & Linoleum. I brought a very specific carpet sample into Armstrong and immediately the sales professional Kevin knew the manufacturer, weight and type of carpet. After a few estimates and a very reasonable quote I decided to set up measurement and installation dates. Installers were professional and minimized the wall scuffs to what I consider completely acceptable (stiff carpet, small rooms, very dark walls equals a bit of touch up paint). They were in and out in the allotted time, were apologetic for the small scuffs and follow-up by Kevin was prompt and courteous. I also revisited the store for another purpose and was greeted and treated really well a second time. They take pride in the work and really seem to want to make sure the process goes well and that you have a successful purchase. I wish every vendor knew their products as well and practiced the same level of professionalism. Honestly, it is refreshing when things just work. And btw - I do shop around and most other flooring stores are hit and miss - either a poorer selection or sales people who either don't seem to care much about you or their products. And those that seemed somewhat OK, didn't install the confidence that Armstrong did. I can't wait to specify more flooring for my clients (and go back here)! read more
