We went to look at flooring in August and had Michael come out to measure our kitchen floor. We just went back beginning of Feb to pick the floor we wanted and Michael was very patient and helped us choose. There was no pushing on a better product or a more expensive. I really appreciated it. The installer Eduardo came today earlier than the expected time and installed the floor today. It was a job well done. He took the debris and also clean and vacuum when the job was done. I recommend this place and Michael and his team. read more

There aren't many good, affordable carpet stores in SF. Abbey carpet is about as good as it gets. I've bought at least two carpets from them and happy with both. I went in looking for a remnant piece to save some money - they have lots of options - but quickly realized they have plenty of ready to go carpets hanging at a great price. If you want something nicer, they have different piles that go up to thousands. My sales person was david (first desk on the left) and he could not have been nicer and more helpful. We were looking for a carpet for our baby's room. We went from one option to the other and ended up going with a custom carpet that is so soft and has a really thick mat. David ordered it custom and even cut some extra pieces with the scraps to help make a mat. Every time I see the carpet, I'm happy so wanted to share this review and photos. Support local!! read more

David worked with me to choose carpeting that was good quality, fit the décor of my home, and was reasonably priced. I followed up with the sales person that first helped me via email 3 times... and I still haven't received an estimate from him. A couple weeks later I decided to make a visit to the store to again follow up on the estimate but the original sales person wasn't in the office so another person agreed to help. This person was much more prompt but the estimate he gave was significantly more expensive than another nearby store. Also, I've been in the store several times and each time I've walked in, no one acknowledges the fact that a customer just walked in the door even though the showroom is completely empty. It's like 3-5 people sitting at their desk "working" so diligently that no one can look up and greet/help/acknowledge me. Who ever manages this place needs to emphasize customer service. This isn't the only carpet store in the city and although it is conveniently located near my house - I will not be back. read more

I'm a teacher, and I came in looking for an area rug for my classroom. Right away, the manager (I think), Todd asked if I needed help, and showed me the rugs. He first pointed out a very nice one, that I thought was a bit out of my price range, considering my school budget. When I mentioned this, though, he quickly said, "Well, I'm going to give it to you." He stuck with that - even when I tried to convince him to let me pay for part of it. Okay, so I'm off the restaurant and bar review page a bit here, but the people who run this store are some of the best retailers I have ever dealt with - and I'm a salesman by trade. My wife recently decided she absolutely had to have a new sofa - right now. So we bought one, got it home and she hated the old Persian carpet and needed a new one of those - also right now. Off we go in search of rugs. Shopped down the Peninsula and found nothing so we did the most illogical thing we could, which was to look in our own neighborhood. The owner of the franchise location's son helped us look at what must have been 10 or 12 really heavy carpets before S. could make a decision. At that, we had narrowed it down to two and he let us take both home to evaluate and bring back the one we didn't want. Very patient, polite and really knows about the product he sells. That he's also a car guy and we could talk about racing while S. shopped sure didn't hurt either... read more

I'm giving a 4 star based on total final outcome. ****** IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A REMNANT READ THIS******* We were looking for a remnant for our baby's room. We rent so we didn't want to spend a ton, but also didn't want the cheapest carpet. We purchased a remnant and installation from the owner himself. After doing a bit of competitive shopping, theirs was the best price. I love the owner of this place... he is plucked right out of Brooklyn, NY circa 1973. My carpet looks nice. It was very professionally installed. I wasn't super thrilled with the service related to scheduling. The woman ignored my two requests to tell the installer that not only did I have a parking space reserved for him in the garage, but that I insisted he park there if the van fit. The poor installer, yes, one guy... was already bummed when he arrived because he had to circle to find parking only to be told that he could park in the building. He arrived at 9:30 and left at around 4. The scheduler woman from Abbey called him several times on walkie insisting he be done by 1 and at another appt by 1:30. With my little knowledge of carpet installation, I would have guessed he would not be done by at the earliest 3. She wasn't nice to him at all and he was very meticulous with his work, even vacuumed the hallway carpet in the building on his way out. The man did a great job at the end of the day, HOWEVER, if you buy a remnant, and in this case it was Karastan that looks like berber, tight loops, make sure it hasn't been sitting under a plie of remnants for a few years. The loops will look flat and I am not sure if they will perk up. My advise to Abbey is: communicate the true details of the job to your installer and be nice to him as he is the last point of contact that your brand has with a customer. I didn't give a lower review because given the price/value relationship, I am happy with the outcome. I clearly didn't choose Abbey based on Yelp reviews. My husband suggested we go there because he had driven by there. We paid the same for a premium piece of carpet that isn't going to fall apart or spread a ton of cheap carpet dust for the same price as the cheap carpet at Home Depot. read more

We wanted 3 things: 1. To find an awesome rug for our nursery 2. To get in and out quickly (I'm 7 months pregnant with twins and my husband hates shopping) 3. To stay under budget All points were satisfied, and more. I still can't believe how smoothly the process went. We were greeted cheerfully, shown the exact section we wanted, and immediately found 3 great options for our kids' room. The salesperson was helpful, but left us alone to discuss and decide what we wanted - informative without being pushy. We ended up with a beautiful cotton 5x7 rug for under $300, in under 10 minutes. Not only is the rug nice to look at (kid-appropriate without annoying cartoon characters), it is so soft to the touch and has those little sticky dots on the back to keep it from slipping. The salesperson was happy to let us browse all day, but like I said, we had a goal to get in and out in a jiffy. I'm all the more impressed by our experience because we have been practically everywhere - from Target to our favorite variety shops on Clement - and found absolutely nothing. All the other stores either didn't have items suitable for kids, or they cost an arm and a leg, or they are way too big or too small. Finally, the new space at 3301 Geary is beautiful. It is so spacious and Abbey Carpet has done the neighborhood a favor by filling in that storefront, which has been vacant and kind of gross for a long time. It's clean and well-lit inside, with plenty of room to browse. You're not going to find an area rug for $50 here, or probably even $150. But if you're willing to invest a little, this is the place to go for service and selection. read more

We purchased a bamboo floor from Abbey Carpet almost 4 years ago and after many many other home improvement projects, the experience still stands out as the worst sales and service ordeal we have been through. Without re-living all the painful details, a 2 week job dragged out for over 6 months and involved installing one floor, removing it due to poor quality, installing a second floor, replacing the adjacent carpet that had been stained during the installation, and finally waiting about 2 more months before the final transition pieces were located and installed. And even before they finished everything, they charged the remaining balance on our credit card without our permission or signature. We finally got rid of the answering machine that had a series of messages from David the sales guy apologizing for canceling repair appointments and saying the owner, Chuck, was going back on his word to correct our damages. The owner was condescending to us, lied several times, and in the end tried to make it sound like he was doing us a favor. He doesn't pay his installers well, either. We eventually gave up after posting our complaint with the Better Business Bureau bc we had to get on with our lives. We drive past daily and look the other way, or mutter "Shabby Carpet" under our breath when we notice them... read more

Two years ago we installed the very expensive Amtico flooring in our kitchen. It looked great! We were very happy with our decision and it made a huge improvement to our 1940 kitchen. That was until the black lines began to appear between the tiles. Within two months of installation, the tiles began to separate leaving a seam where dirt was becoming trapped. Not to worry, surely the warranty covered this so I called Abbey. The following week the installer arrived and told me that the reason for the seams is because of extreme temperature changes. How could that be? I live in the Sunset. Extreme temperature changes? Really? I told him that I wanted to speak with the manager. I called Abbey back. A few days later the owner, Chuck Meshon, came by with an "expert" on Amtico flooring and told me that it was my fault that cold air was entering and shrinking the tiles and that because of this it violated and voided my warranty. What? Is that the kind of customer service I deserved after spending nearly $2000? Thanks Abbey Carpet!!! I'll never do business with you again. read more

I just carpeted the entire upstairs of my house in Oct. I used Abbey Carpets for the third time in 15 years. I also got 2 rugs for the Living room and Dining room this time. I couldn't be happier!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Their showroom is amazing. The variety is mind blowing. After the salesman was very patient with me, I finally decided on my beautiful Ralph Lauren Carpet. This is the first review I have ever written, which is motivated by the truly unpleasant experience I had at Abbey Carpets, and... my desire to let the company know about the disrespectful and unprofessional manner of one of their employees. It sounds like Mook S. and Dennis S. had similarly negative experiences with this same salesperson. I went to Abbey because I had heard positive things. The sales personnel are friendly and courteous and their selection of wool rugs is excellent. They promptly came to my home to give me an estimate, all of which was an encouraging start. Sadly, things proceeded to go down hill from there. Despite being given an estimate and told that "all of their wool wovens would be in this price range", my actual quote came in at 50% higher (over $1k) than the original estimate. I was then told that this was because of my rug selection. So I picked two more carpets and was told that these would be half the price. Then got a quote that was twice (over $2k) the original estimate! When I said I was confused and asked why the quote kept getting higher, my salesperson, James Harris, got irritated. All I got was a "That's just the way it is. Do you want it or not?" I honestly got the impression that he did not want my business and just wanted to get me off the phone. He refused to admit that he had given me conflicting guidance & info and I was unsuccessful in getting any of my questions answered. He just got curt and then practically hung up in my face. I tried to be sympathetic to the fact that he was busy, etc., so I chalked it up to someone having a bad day. Then I got another bizarre call from James. I picked up the phone to find someone yelling loudly for a good 5-10 seconds. After saying hello several times, I began to hang up thinking it was a wrong number, when James came on the line and asked when he could get his carpet samples back, then hung up in my face, again! It's a shame, because I actually liked this guy and thought we had a nice rapport initially. I have never been treated with this degree of disrespect. An utter lack of professionalism. James, if you ever read this review (and the others).... Dude, what's up! it's not cool to treat people this way, no matter how irritated you get. UPDATE: As a result of this review, Abbey Carpets reached out to me to express their concern and asked what they could do to make things right. I came away feeling that the company cares about it's customers and it's employees and is working to address these issues. I'm changing my rating from 1 to 3 stars.I hope that what began as a negative experience turn turns into a positive one for all going forward. read more

I'm writing this review on behalf of my flatmates. We are all looking for (relatively inexpensive) new carpet for our hallways. We wish we could give this store a 0 star review, because one star implies that they deserve *some* respect. My roommate is 50 years old, and she says "I have NEVER dealt with a salesperson as rude as James." She began working with another sales rep there (David) who was very helpful and kind, but as soon as he left, things fell apart. The first time they met James was when they went in to order carpet. When they walked in, they went to the first empty desk. After they had waited for several minutes, a bald man in the far corner asked if they needed any service. When they said yes, he responded, "Well then, you'd better come over here." He basically just reimbursed them for the carpet samples and said he would have David contact them. Throughout the exchange he was consistently cold and rude, cutting them off in mid-sentence several times. David eventually got in contact with us and scheduled a Sunday measuring of our apartment. David came, measured, and set up the installation appointment. On the day of the installation, the store called to tell us that they wouldn't be able to install the carpet, as it had a large flaw in the middle (it was an industrial remnant, so this wasn't entirely unexpected). The next day, my roommate called and asked David to pick out some carpet samples that might work in the apartment. When she went after work, only James was there. James told her that David had left for Phoenix and that he couldn't help her. She decided to look around the store a bit. Another customer came in, and he was just as rude to him. At that point she decided to look for another carpet store. read more

Two words: All natural. All natural means no plastic materials including polyester, polypropylene, acrylic and many other types of plastics. Abbey Carpet has a tremendous selection of all natural carpets. They do have a selection of plastic carpets and wool-plastic blends, and they carry rug padding and non-slip padding made from rubber (which can also be made from plastic) and recycled plastic. I went to a number of different stores and Abbey has the best selection of all wool rugs. Because of the artwork in my home, I needed a rug that was simple, a neutral color, and wanted something soft under bare feet. Wool is not only soft but it's also easy to clean. Ice cold water on a spill and there will be no stain. Plus, it's safe for babies. Why buy plastic carpeting? Polypropylene rugs (plastic) contain toxins, they stain easily, smell over time, and melts in the heat. No thanks! Abbey has many many choices. I had a hard time deciding. There is a clearance/remnant section that is discounted. From there, I got a New Zealand wool rug cut to a custom size and finished with wool yarn edges. A 9 by 13 foot rug with non-slip padding for about $1100, half the price of or less than other places. All the salespeople are kind and helpful. I went in there about 5 times before deciding and everyone was helpful regardless of who got the commission. There's a warehouse not far from the showroom where they finish the carpets. I got mine in less than one week after ordering. Another store took over a week to get a small rug in from a warehouse. But Abbey took only five days for a 9 x 13 custom-finished rug. Thumbs up. I'm now looking for one more smaller all wool area rug. I'm really close to going back there and getting another custom cut. read more

The one thing you can count on when you give this business a bad review is that the manager will find all sorts of ways to tell you that you are wrong. In my case, I was misrepresenting Jews, using naughty words in my reviews (well, at least the one and two star ones!) He also has taken the time to EDUCATE me about what social media is about - which is truly hilarious since i am deeply involved in social media for my living. It's all about service and it's too bad that this business spends so much time reading their reviews and not enough time paying attention to the fact that most of us don't bother to write them unless we fervently feel that the business wasn't up to par. If you give them a good review, they'll give you wall-to-wall praise. If not, you can count on the fact that they'll carpetbag you. My designer recommended Hector at Abbey Carpet on Geary Boulevard in San Francisco to buy and install a wood floor in my condo. The process of selecting and ordering was easy with Hector's help, and the installation by Ron and Carlos was stellar. They were competent, hard working, and a pleasure to have work in my home. I felt comfortable running out to do errands, and knew that my home was in good hands with them. Unfortunately, 3 days after the installation, my appliances were delivered by another business. Despite my telling the delivery people to be super careful as I had a brand new floor, they were exceedingly careless and left deep scratches on my new and beautiful wood floor. When my designer called Hector, he took the bull by the horns, ordered new boxes of wood and arranged for both Ron and Carlos to schedule me two weeks later, when the new wood would be delivered. It was a very difficult repair, as they had to move the brand new stove, take doors off stove and refrigerator and work lying on the floor for 2 full days. Painstaking work but they wanted to restore my floor to its original installation. It's been very stressful but Hector, Ron and Carlos helped to keep me calm since I was distraught over my kitchen renovation being derailed by the appliance company's carelessness. I can't speak for the showroom staff, but I was told (by a third party) to talk to Manuel at Abbey's warehouse location -- a nondescript building several blocks away -- about my extremely small bathroom carpeting job. Manuel took care of the whole job in ONE day (ended up using my old carpet as a template, meaning no site visit needed). It cost me less than 1/3 of the other estimates I'd gotten. After going to those shady corner carpet places that sell you crap and tell you anything to make a sale, Abbey was a breath of fresh air. They didn't hound us and just let us be while we looked. When they did ask it seemed like they knew exactly what we needed when we described the kind of rug we were looking for. You can tell that they have been around for years and know their stuff by all the helpful suggestions. They actually saved us from buying a carpet that would be hard to match up to stuff in our house. They pulled them right off the rack and spread them out so we could look at them. I never write reviews but I am overwhelmed by the service I received from Abbey Carpets. I am furnishing a new large home and purchased several beautiful, high quality rugs from Abbey. Unfortunately my dog vomited right after we installed the rugs and the acid stained one of the rugs. I tried to clean it but only made matters worse. When I called, the owner happened to answer the phone. I told him my tale of woe, hoping to get a referral for someone to clean the carpet, although I'd already been told that was not possible. He came over to my home, that very afternoon, himself to look at the damage and then proceeded to figure out a solution!! UNBELIEVABLE!! That is just not on the radar of any other company I have ever dealt with anywhere! All I can say is that if you need carpeting or flooring Abbey has distinguished themselves in a way I would not ever imagine is possible. Hector was great, gave me some recommendations on non skid padding for my area rugs. It was tough going to Home Depot and the thought of getting a pad, laying it out just to find out it wasn't the right size seemed like a nightmare I could never wake out of. Some of the reviews are bad so let me see how everything turns out. I will say I don't think Abbey knows Yelp exists. The address listed at 3100 is wrong has been incorrect for 5 years.
