Awww :) you walk in and it's these smiles all Day!

Okay so I guess I'm reviewing a classic joint again! One of my most fave places! Some photos are new and old hahah but yes. The people that work here are lovely humans. The food is on point HH through the week! Live music on Thursdays and the regular music is a lot of neo soul and great music choices. Not regular top 40 junk. Anyway it's a local spot it's not a dive but also not snooty pretentious even tho it feels elevated.

On our recent trip to California, we got to to eat and drink at amazing restaurants & bars. One of them was Aro in South Pasadena. It was a great experience with delicious margaritas !! The restaurant has booths as well as bar seating inside and outdoor patio. Staff are friendly, helpful and with big smiles !!

I enjoyed my first experience at Aro! I went with my friend for a catch up/girls night. We went on a Friday and parking was fairly easy on the street. I had two sangrias because it was so tasty, light , and refreshing. The tacos and dessert were also so delicious. Stephanie helped us out and she was very friendly, nice, and attentive. I definitely will go back when I have the chance!

I have not stopped telling people about this place since we went for Valentine's Day. Every food that plated in front of us was perfect. I ordered the fish and shrimp tacos and I've been dreaming about these tacos ever since. The cook was perfect and the chipotle sauce on the side was the best sauce I've ever had. That should be bottled and I would order it in bulk. We also got chips & guac for the table. The chips were also very good. My husband ordered the enchiladas and the rice was nice and fluffy. Then we got a strawberry cheesecake to end the night and that was fantastic. I also got a margarita and it ended too quickly. The staff was so kind, and constantly checked in on us. Can't wait to come back again soon!

Came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon. Service was 10/10 Food was also 10/10. The skirt steak came with a side of chimichurri that was the cherry on top. The ambiance was very chill and casual. Loved the music playing in the background. Restrooms are clean and artsy & music can be heard over an restroom speaker.

Aro has realllly great drinks! I hopped in for their "social hour." I ordered a margarita, the asada fries, and the asada skewer. Every thing was really great. I asked the bartender for a suggestion after social hour was over, and he suggested the hibiscus margarita. It was one of the best margaritas I have had. The space is cute, and they play music in the background. I really enjoyed my visit.

Aro Latin in South Pasadena has a vibe that really comes alive at the bar, where I was welcomed by Tevin, who truly made the experience. After an appointment, I treated myself to a solo dinner and asked for a non-alcoholic drink. Tevin crafted an agua fresca with hibiscus that was so refreshing, balanced, and citrusy it transported me straight to the Caribbean. I started with the tiradito, a sashimi-style ahi tuna with garlic oil and a fruity, ceviche-like center that was absolute heaven. The chicken tinga enchiladas were rich, satisfying, and perfectly portioned. I was so impressed I came back the next day with my cousin. There was live music, a relaxing lounge vibe, and we shared the another tirado and coliflor, which was roasted cauliflower bathed in a creamy pesto with coconut milk. It was warm, flavorful, and absolutely magical. Can't wait to go back.

    Beef hash

Came here for brunch New Year's day since it was one of the few places open in the area. Service was quick, and the people were so nice! We ordered the Chilaquiles with mole and the Short Beef Rib hash. The chilaqules were delicious. The chips were still crunchy and the mole was perfectly seasoned! The hash, on the other hand, was not what we expected. It was kind of soupy to be honest, and the meat was not short beef rib, it was just ground beef. In fact, the ground beef was sort of rubbery and the dish in its entirety was almost flavorless. Would come back for maybe lunch/happy hour, and would definitely order more of the chilaquiles!! The restaurant is quite big - great for get togethers or just hanging out, its..idk I wanna say industrial-ish? But its not too overwhelming at all! Parking was on the street, not sure if there is parking for the complex as we got quite lucky with street parking!

We dropped in for a quick drink a few times and recently tried a small bites. We had the esquite, empanadas and some fires all so so delicious. But the highlight was the Bloody Mary it was delicious, refreshing and now one of my top 3. We are excited to come try some breakfast in the near future and of course that will include a Bloody Mary!!!

Such a special place! The food was very yummy and the sangria was delicious! I had the birria tacos that were just perfect. The esquites had a very lime forward taste but was still good. Service is great the staff are all so friendly. Such a fun place to pop in real quick for a drink/apps or spend some quality time it's a great vibe.

    $17 just for 3 tacos
    Jessica R.

This place I wish could have been better. It was bad from the start. First thing we ordered was an appetizer along with meal. The appetizer came out and the waitress brought no drinks. She saw us sitting there and I tried to ask but nothing. It took forever for just water not alcoholic drinks mind you. Another person ended up bringing it and then she acted like we weren't sitting there with almost all of our appetizer gone before anything. I got the shrimp tacos (3 tacos $17 just tacos!) they were drenched in sauce I could hardly eat them. The rice was bland. The waitress never checked on us once. We asked for the check and she took another 10 minutes to bring it over. The thing is after we asked for the check we saw her help the people next to us check out but we had to wait even after that. It was frustrating to say the least. $70 for mediocre food and horrible service!

So many options for dining in South Pasadena, but the string lighting outside Aro provides a welcoming ambiance after sunset that draw you in. We've been to Aro on several occasions now. Mostly for birthdays lately but we have been known to drop in for mid week drinks also. Always great service, stellar food, and refreshing cocktails. I can't say that I've had anything on the menu that I didn't love. I do however, have a couple favorites: - Chaufa de Pollo - Brussels Sprouts - Chicken Empanadas You can't go wrong with any of their cocktails. You might even get lucky and be provided with shots on the house for your birthday. * Parking: there is no lot for Aro but you should be able to find parking on the side street rather easily.

    Happy hour chicken quesadilla
    Jeff C.

Loved it. Been a few times. Inside is modern and stylish. Decent amount of seating. They also have a small front patio seating area. It's a good spot for small groups or even a casual date. The food is great. I've had the salmon and asparagus. Loved the green creamy sauce. They also have a great happy hour Mon-Fri 4-6. Highlights are $5 beers, $12 cocktails, and food specials. The mezcal sun-risa was delicious. The happy hour tacos were good, could have used a spicy salsa though. Will definitely be coming back. Service is great. Friendly staff. There's street parking but you might have to walk a block or two.

First, all the staff is so attentive I feel like they can read our minds and they're bringing something or they ask if we need what we just thought of. Amazing and keeping our waters glass full at all times major plus! The first course was the Bone Marrow Esquite. It's been years since I last tried bone marrow and I was worried but everything paired perfectly. This was my favorite part of the meal. The corn mixed with the bone marrow on top of the tamale sweet corn....wow! All the flavors complemented eachother so well. I wish I could recreate this amazing dish at home!!! For the second course I went with the Arrachera - the skirt steak with the Poblano rice. Absolutely flavorful. Just a bit hard to chew for me and I felt like I was swallowing giant portions. I'm not saying there was anything wrong with the way it was cooked, but I did struggle with the meat tearing. For dessert I went with the Guava cheesecake. Absolutely decadent and the perfect small portion to end the meal. To drink I had the Maestro Margarita with hibiscus and it was absolutely refreshing. Wonderful vibes, good conversation, and delicious food! I can't wait to come back and try more dishes!

The staff are friendly and offer helpful suggestions on your selections and the place is clean and cute for a date night dinner. My husband and I tried out Maestro for a date night. We went for a few of their menu items including the bone marrow esquite, enchiladas verde, and cochinita pibil. The food itself was okay, not special and didn't have a new or surprising twist, and not incredibly authentic either. Out of our dishes we shared, the bone marrow esquite appetizer was actually the standout. It had excellent flavor and seasoning though the tamal was dry inside, the sauces aided in the flavor and texture. They have an extensive drinks menu and an alleyway patio that seems to be popular. Overall it might be good for the drinks, the vibe is something you might find anywhere in Pasadena, the food is just okay, and the parking is paid in nearby structures on busy Union so be prepared.

Gilberto was excellent...offering suggestions and explaining options as we were first time patrons of Malbec! So on to the food! Scallop was more delicate and mild flavors. Second course: the out of this world Ojo de Bife Al Malbec rib eye ... would 100% order again and the excellent as well Pollo à la Granja. We started at the bar with Ernesto, who was wonderful. He recommended the Moscow Mule because they make their ginger syrup in-house, and it was delicious. The red sangria was also a hit. For happy hour food, we tried the spicy beef empanadas, 5 oz skirt steak (entraña) with peppercorn sauce, and cebiche mixto. Everything was great. Our only mistake was not ordering fries to dip into that peppercorn sauce! After happy hour, we moved to our table and met our server Eder. He was sweet, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine. He made an excellent wine recommendation to pair with our dinner and started us off with complimentary warm baguette and classic chimichurri. For dinner, we ordered the Tabla Mixta with ribeye and short ribs. The meats arrived sizzling on cast iron and were cooked perfectly medium-rare. It came with three chimichurri sauces, with the garlic chimichurri being my favorite. Honestly, the meats were seasoned so well they didn't even need sauce. We also tried the Arroz con Mariscos and added Argentinean chorizo. The octopus, mussels, clams, shrimp, and scallops were all cooked perfectly. The rice was a little too wet for my preference since I enjoy the crispy, scorched bottom of a Spanish-style paella, but the seafood itself was excellent. The ambiance is lively and can get pretty loud, so we had to speak a little louder than normal. My only real complaint was the temperature in the main dining room. It was extremely warm throughout our visit, even with the AC supposedly running at full power. Interestingly, the area near the restrooms was noticeably cooler. This was really the only thing keeping our experience from being 5 stars. Parking around Green Street can be challenging, but street parking is free. We got lucky and found a spot down the block. There's also a paid public lot near Green and Mentor. Overall, Malbec delivered excellent food and even better service. Ernesto and Eder were both fantastic and really elevated our experience. We'll definitely be back for happy hour and dinner with friends and family.
