I absolutely love this restaurant. My husband and I have been coming here for years and we absolutely love the gluten free and vegan options. Our waitress Stephanie has gone above and beyond EVERY SINGLE TIME! She is amazing and honestly it's the incredible employees that make this place our favorite. We come here on our Anniversary and birthdays because the food is incredible, but we also feel so welcomed and at home when we are here. If you eat meat, the birria tacos are incredible! I am writing this as my husband & I are just leaving your restaurant tonight...My husband & I are absolutely in love with this charming establishment, with exceptional food, and we are definitely regulars here. However, we were disappointed as we were treated very poorly tonight by the bartender working, a older latino man with a goatee. My husband & I always tip great to the servers, which is why we know how unprofessional & unacceptable his behavior was towards us. It was a very chilly Saturday night, your restaurant was very quiet, with only one other couple dining at a table & 3 people at the bar, so we asked him if it was ok if we could bring our 12 pound little dog inside, he replied, "NO," so we ate outside, with no questions asked. However, within 30 minutes later he seem to let another couple in & were immediately seated inside with their little dog. At the end of our meal, I went up to the bartender & asked him "why we were denied," & he we immediately was embarrassed, as all the bar guests were looking at him, so he came from behind the bar & told me they were a service dog. I said, "you didn't ask me if my dog was a service dog when I asked if we were allowed to sit inside & you didn't ask them either," because I asked the other people working... (by the way, my tiny little dog is a service dog) I said, "very interesting..." & I walked away, paid the bill & left the server a great tip because the server was exceptionally nice & professional & the food is unbelievably delicious, unlike the the bartender, who seems to be running your business very poorly. I am a food critic and we own 2 businesses as well & we would never discriminate against guests. I've been to this place many times. Tonight though...we were seated and it was at least 15 minutes before our server came over. I don't know if that's just the vibe of the place or what, but after she took our order she never came back over. We had to signal her to get our check. The food IS good. I do enjoy it. It's a tad expensive, but the quality is very good. The food came out quickly, although delivered by someone else. Our friend asked for a side condiment (to the person that brought our food out), but that person never came back with it. Our server WAS very nice. We needed a place that had vegetarian options and was open until 2 a.m. So my friend Yelped and found ARO on Mission in South Pasadena. He loved his shrimp and scallops enchilada with suiza sauce. And for me, I ordered the quesadilla vegetariano, which came with a small side of pico de gallo. (It was fine, stuffed with veggies in the middle, empty on the sides of the tortilla, and not a hint of oil or butter. Fine by me, but overall the quesadilla was meh.) However, I did enjoy the sides. Brussel sprouts and onions tossed in olive oil, served in a small cast-iron skillet; they were "burnt" and tasty. (Just one hit of sea salt too much for me, but my friend loved them). The food is refined but not pretentious. The best was the side of corn, which is perfect to share with two people. Ambience -- laidback, casual, not the place for a romantic meal maybe due to the wide open seating arrangement, (only one booth on the way to the bathroom might be deemed private, but it was being used for storage. ) It's definitely a chill....the bar on the right as you enter, seems to be the focus....and makes sense because the menu is tequila centric...even the water is served in a tequila bottle. (No worm). :-D The bathroom was surprisingly sterile, no art, no amenities, basic...but had a big picture window, (Without curtains, I did wonder if I could be seen from the outside street. Oh well nature calls). The service is super friendly, and helpful. Had to ask for water refill though, and when our server brought it, he didn't pour. No biggie, but I noticed. The service, attentive but not overly, which is a good thing. Lovely space here, great for a casual meal, and they have a pretty extensive bar. Food here is refined, modern Mexican and Central American dishes. We shared a few dishes that were from the Oaxaca region of Mexico, starting out with Esquites, roasted sweet corn with chipotle aioli and queso fresco. I'm a sucker for corn, so this sweet corn with the rich and zesty flavors of the aioli and queso was simply delicious. Can I have another order? Other stand outs were the Mole Poblano with Chicken. Chicken was slightly overcooked, but the mole sauce was superb, with a slight sweetness to it. Pile on pieces of chicken, mole sauce and accompanying salsas into their home made tortillas, and it was a nice hearty bite. I was pretty full by the time our whole branzino arrived, but it was grilled nicely, and was delicious when you eat the branzino with the accompanying vegetables in one bite. Service here was good but there were slight issues, where water was not refilled in a timely fashion, and requests for certain condiments were forgotten and had to be requested a 2nd time. 3.5 stars, rounding it up to 4. read more

On this Sunday raining morning there were two servers and they were both attentive and worked together. My girlfriend order their $15 bottomless mismosa deal and i had the Calidad drink. Calidad had lime juice, hibiscus, syrup, orange liquor and Mezcal with IPA float. It was my first time and it was very good with a bit of a Smokey taste to it. This was due to the type of mezcal. Nice trendier side Mexican restaurant in south Pasadena. Found out they had a brunch menu from a friend and got to try this place out. The restaurant wasn't busy at all on a Saturday morning. They had a decent variety of the usual breakfast things (Omelettes and Eggs Benedict, etc) but we opted for their larger selection of lunch items. I got their Steak Burger, which was cheesy and flavorful. It came with a side salad with a nice vinaigrette dressing (could get fries instead). I got to try one of my friend's Pesto Pasta with Salmon, which was really good! I kind of wish I asked to try a little more since it was so tasty. They do have a $15 bottomless mimosas option as well for brunch. Maybe will try next time when I don't have work later in the day. read more

Came here for a casual dinner. The atmosphere was very relaxed in this space of large windows with views of the streets. Parking was relatively easy without having to hunt for a spot. Started out with the Esquites, which was a roasted sweet corn with chitpotle aioli and quesco fresco. It was fresh tasting and a good appetizer to start with. It was suppose to be a street food dish served in Oxaca. Next was the Watermelon Ahi Cerviche. It too was a oxacan specialty. It could be fresher, the Tuna had turned white when it reached our table, never the less it went down well. Next was the Mole Pablono con pollo. The dish was a mix of rice, mixed vegetables, chicken and Mole sauce. I am not a fan of Mole to begin with but I do believe it was generally well liked at the table. We also had a brazino, with asparagus and fried zuchini. The sauce at the bottom of the fish was spectacular. Just make sure that it is mixed in well with the vegetables and fish before serving. This was by American standards a bony fish. It is not filleted. I did not have any problems eating it. Nice and slow to pick out the tiny bones and enjoy the flavor. It is not a dish for wolfing down which a common occurrence, I hate to say. Overall a pleasant meal. read more
