Found this amazing hidden gem on yelp , wasn't too sure what to expect. This house has a neighbor vibe you can kick back on the couch while you are waiting for a seat. There is about 3 tables and seats at the kitchen bar area . It's defiantly worth the wait to see this husband and wife team up and make your mouth water with anticipation. Play with a puzzle and check out all the knick nacks and books . They make all there ice cream and they suggest to start with dessert while your meal is being prepared, we tried the chocolate hazelnut! Yummmmm . I had the eggs Benedict which was seriously AMAZING. You will most definitely drive right by without knowing it was ever there. Owner was outgoing, food was really great. However, I'm giving this location 3 stars because upon seating us, the owner asked us if we had ever dined here before and we said no. Later, the people next to us were checking out and we heard the owner say "sorry we don't accept plastic, only cash or check". They were shocked and had to leave to go to the ATM. We had not been informed of this policy before we dined either so my boyfriend had to quickly finish his meal to go to the ATM. This is an issue and needs to be updated. Hubby and I had breakfast this morning and it was great. Homemade everything, we had coffee and she brought out a French Press, we both had the mix of the day breakfast, mine was without shrimp and mushrooms but still very good. She sold us on dessert first, first time for that and having it at breakfast, mine was a peach/raspberry dessert and hubby had a chocolate bread pudding w/homemade vanilla ice cream. If you walk away hungry well I'm not sure what your deal is. It was not busy at all just us and two other locals that were there. The reason I gave a four star was because of how loud they were when talking which was almost the entire time. I didn't care what the were talking about but a couple times I couldn't hear my husband talk, not cool. BUT on that note she did check on us on a regular basis so that was awesome. I visited friends in Newport, Oregon for a week and we went to Arr Place for dinner - "Actual food touched by human hands" is their mantra. I spent 2 1/2 hours over the most enjoyable, original and delicious dinner experience I've had recently. Tucked away and down a driveway on SW Cliff St., unless you know Newport, the best way is to fire up your GPS and let it lead you to the front door of Amyee, Robert and Rebeka's family run eatery and experience why Newport foodies and visitors rave about it. The room is small and cordial, some times resulting in perfect strangers sharing a table, something I think adds to the vibe here. Let me say from the start that if you're looking for a place to grab a quick bite and run, Arr Place may not be for you. But if you want to enjoy time over a great Margarita, that Amyee crafts or drinking a cold beer that you might not find at other places (I had a Biburger Pils, a tasty German brew from the Mosel region) while you watch Robert in the open kitchen putting your dinner together, then pull up to the bar style seating; this is may be more in your wheel house. Reading the menu is fun and will tell you all you need to know before ordering. Amyee, (the "A" in the restaurant's name, the other two are Robert her husband and their daughter Rebeka) told us there are no "specials" on the menu but they have a pretty expansive offering of meat, fish, chicken and pastas and more from which to chose - something for every palate, I think. I had the Chicken Paillard with potatoes, asparagus and veggies, all roasted and all sourced from local farm markets. My friend enjoyed the Crusted Ahi tuna with a Wassabi sauce also sourced fresh locally. Before dinner you should try the corn bread and that little bite to it, Aymee said is the Cumin added to it. Also ask for an order of Arr Place's handmade coleslaw to go with it. One order of corn bread and an order of the coleslaw is enough for two people as a starter before your meal arrives. I'm glad I was able to catch Arr Place on an open night. Currently they are serving Thursday - Saturday 5:00pm-8:30pm and on Sunday 9:00am-12:30pm. But check to make sure they're serving on the night you want to visit. Oh and no reservations or credit cards - cash only, If you're visiting Newport, Arr Place is worth planning for an experience and dinner you'll remember in a beautiful part of the Pacific Northwest. read more

After a weekend of the annual Newport Seafood and Wine Festival, we needed a good hearty breakfast. I found Arr Place on yelp with stellar reviews, so naturally we had to check it out. We arrived to the address confused. "Where is this place? It says it's here, there's nothing that looks like a restaurant here... Well there's Cliff St. so let's walk down it and find out!" I'm so glad we did! In this great big beach house with the traditional salty aired wood look, we found this cozy little restaurant tucked in the bottom right corner. There are no real signs that mark where it is, but if you're lucky enough to find it, a pleasant surprise awaits you! Aymee will greet you when you walk in, and if you don't immediately see a spot to sit, grab a seat on one of the cozy couches in the corner. You can pick from a variety of small games to play while you wait, or read a newspaper. It's a pretty small place, you're basically in someone's converted living room (I'm sure they live in the upper part of the house). Check out the menu, it was written with so much love, care, and from the heart it makes you instantly love this place without even eating the food! They suggest dessert first, but it was breakfast time and we opted for some coffee and tea. The coffee is perfectly served as fresh as can be in a french press. Aymee will tell you the specials, then while you get cozy you can decide what sounds best! Both of my girlfriends chose the special.. They call it a "mix", otherwise known as a scramble. This one consisted of savory potatoes, broccoli, onions, garlic. 2 types of mushrooms, bacon, and your choice of cheese. It came with a homemade biscuit and homemade strawberry jam. I on the other hand just had to try their huevos rancheros, and I'm glad I did. I chose poached eggs and they came atop a corn sope (a very thick soft corn tortilla) immersed in a pool of perfectly cooked black beans and jack cheese, accompanied by two homemade sauces on top (a creamy cilantro cream, and a mild but powerful chili sauce). The flavors are so bold, but all work in harmony as they dance on your tongue. I ate nearly every bite! After seeing my friends' homemade biscuits, I couldn't bear thought of leaving without having one, so I ordered one of those too! I'd say the butter and jam portions were a little too small for 3 people to share, but I'm also a condiment-aholic! We all chowed down, leaving next to nothing on our plates. When it came time to pay, Aymee told us it was cash only, oops. We had just spent hundreds of dollars at the NS&WF and here we are lookin' like poor folk scrapin' together as much money as we could to give her a nice big tip with our tab. So make sure you bring cash!!! I can't wait to go back to this place for dinner sometime. Everything is made from scratch and love, and they pride themselves on sustainability and local fare. This is we're you want to get breakfast/brunch. Offering pick up/to go. All nice and neat ready to go on time. Very personable staff on phone and upon arrival. Egg Benny solid with shaved ham (real ham, not a ham person but this was very good). Potatoes were a wonderful surprise. One would think these are easy to get right but often they are not. These were cooked and seasoned to perfection. The reason for the 5 stars (ai rarely rate more than 4- I'm a hard grader) were the "short stack pancakes ". My partner said they" melted in her mouth" and that it was like she "never had pancakes before now" (we have, often). Get them with blueberries. I'm excited to go here again and try other things on the menu. If they offer the halibut Benny, I'll stop everything and drive the two hours to get here. Well done Arr! read more

This is by far the best place in Newport everything is so good the owners never seem to disappoint, I had their burger and for all of the burgers that I've had this is the best, and I am from Portland so this is a place that I always am looking forward to going. "Arr" isn't a pirate reference - it's the first initials of Aymee, Robert, and their now-grown daughter Rebecca. Homegrown and heartwarming. The service is personal and FUNNY. The menu starts with listing some of their pet peeves and tells you how to be a good customer! In return, they take very good care of their customers. Aymee and Robert prep every single dish from scratch, so it's incredible that there is such variety on the menu. We were there for Saturday dinner, but we hear that Sunday brunch is not to be missed. This place can get packed and you may sometimes share a table with strangers, or have a wait. The menu has plenty of veggie options but the gratinee (think French onion soup) is made with beef broth. Cause it's good that way. Many items are grilled, nothing is fried. Brunch ends Sundays at 1 and are closed Mon/Tues. Not sure if they offer breakfast or lunch on non-Sunday days, but I'm pretty sure dinner is served Weds-Sat. The owners kindly recommended some eateries to try in Newport. We enjoyed The Noodle, Saffron Salmon, and Cafe Mundo. They also suggested Sana's sushi, but we didn't make it there yet. read more

I love this place. Eric E.'s review is not great, but it's clearly not the place for her. And by the way, the ARR stands for Amy Robert, and Rebekah (?)-- it is not in reference to pirates. Amy and Robert operate that place like that for a reason: they like the family style laid back neighborhood vibe. It's Amy and Robert and that's it--they don't want to grow and they don't want national recognition, they just want to have some like-minded relaxed people who are looking for an outstanding meal and fun times. You want a regular run of the mill restaurant that will get you in and out like everywhere else in the world, the Chowder Bowl is your place (also good food by the way). Quality home made from scratch breakfast food in an intimate home setting. This place is truly a gem. And amazingly it all started purely from word of mouth. The restaurant is actually at the bottom of their house, and you get a warm inviting feeling just being there. Its owned by a couple and they are both great, they are extremely personable and it felt like ive been coming here for years. The food was also great, they try to use as much local ingredients as they can and to make almost everything from scratch. You can really taste the love and care put into each ingredient. I had the traditional which came with a fluffy beautiful biscuit, eggs, and some potatoes. We also got the smoked salmon eggs Benedict, and a blueberry pancake. Everything tasted delicious and we were smiling the entire time. We also tried their cinnamon ice cream as well which was made from scratch. I was visiting a friend on the coast when I woke up pretty early for a Sunday and wanted breakfast. She suggested this cute local spot so I said, why not? When you pull up it looks like someone's home and I wasn't sure if it was open. When we walked in we were greeted and took our seats. The place isn't huge, but it's nice and cosy: case in point, we picked the big table with the kid's board games and toys. There's various knickknacks around the place including old school posters, trinkets, and cartoons. As for ordering, they recommend dessert first because hey, life is short! I vouched for the Meal of the Day: scrambled eggs with sweet corn, shiitake mushrooms, onions, and other items. Added that with a biscuit and some house jam and yum yum! I dunno if ya'll ARR ready for this place. How lucky for the little town of Nye Beach to be able to enjoy such an amazing culinary delight right in their backyard. Instead of salt and pepper shakers on the tables there are a number of games and puzzles and the salt and pepper shakers are relegated to a display shelf high above the tables. This establishment is run by husband and wife duo, Aymee and Robert. Amy is the personality and the hospitality of the restaurant while Robert (alone in the kitchen) is the executive chef, sous chef and grade manger. Together they run one amazing experience in dining and conversation. I have to preface this with that I usually will only review my meal...and no one else's at the table with me. I mean that's just too much. But at this place...I gotta! It is suggested that before every meal you start with dessert first. So following suit my mother ordered the raspberry bread pudding with both vanilla and cinnamon ice cream. (Keep in mind dear reader, that everything that ended up in our stomachs tonight is all house made...that includes the ice cream too). I only ended up with one bite, but that bite was everything soft, with the scent of and flavor of berries and the perfect creaminess from the vanilla ice cream. Next we ordered the Brutus salad, next to Cesar...untrue. Beautifully composed salad with j-crumbs which are Aymee's mother in laws recipe for seasoned bread crumbs. So rather than croutons you get a generous sprinkling of j-crumbs which amps up the overall taste and texture to your salad.The light creaminess of the dressing and the pepperiness of the greens were perfectly balanced. I had the house made pappardelle pasta with beef meatballs and j-crumbs. I could've used more marinara sauce, but the sweetness of the sauce and the savoriness of the meatballs were everything I wanted in a pasta dish. My father had the halibut which was lightly crusted with I think an almond panko crust, abed a spicy rice pilaf with roasted veggies....that alone blew my mind (so effing amazing!!!!!!!!!!). Oh I enjoyed a nice well rounded fruity bordeaux with it all. My mother had the miyatake and shitake soup which was a beautiful broth of ginger, scallions, some sort of red pepper, and garlic with plenty of miyatake and shitake mushrooms. This is a cash only place. Don't do what we did one year and forget that. We literally ran around fervently digging out all of our cash, quarters and pennies to pay our bill. The wait is a bit long, and the space is a bit small....but with the level of cuisine you get to enjoy it is ALL worth it. Please do not overlook the gems that lie hidden within Newport. Good food. Hard to find. Google maps takes you to an empty alley. After getting directions it was still a little tough to find. But they were pretty busy so I'm guessing it's a local hot spot and doesn't need obvious signage. We came with kids. It is kid friendly except the prices were a little high for the kiddos, imo. A small 7"ish cheese quesadilla is $8.00 as is a grilled cheese sandwich. Granted it's made with white cheddar, but something tells me my 4 year old didn't notice. My burger was very good, but $20. The lasagna was good. The adult chicken quesadilla ($13) was so so. In the end the food was good but portions were small and it was pricey. We were by no means looking for a Red Robin, but for $20 the burger should be amazing. One more thing: drinking water in Newport must be expensive. It says on their menu not to order it unless you drink it and she reminded us when we asked for it. But kids don't always drink their water so I made sure to drink all of my kid's waters. We visited on 2/17 and Arr Place was BUSY. We spent nearly two hours here for a simple breakfast. Too long. Food was good but to be really honest, I wasn't as impressed as some reviewers. I didn't order anything fancy, just the basis breakfast with eggs, potatoes, biscuit, and bacon. Good, basic, but not worth such a long wait. Hubs got french toast and coffee. Again, good but...two hours? Nope. One poor diner sat with her food in front of her for 10 minutes without cutlery. 10 minutes!? Luckily she was a regular and didn't seem too upset. I would not have been pleased. Also witnessed some rather stressful moments when orders got mixed up. Amy was a bit cranky, which is understandable when it is only the two of them working. But...we had been waiting for just over an hour at that point and likely would have left if we didn't have food in the works. Made me worry we would never get our food! One family did leave at that point. I'm sure more elaborate breakfasts or perhaps something from the lunch and/or dinner menu would be more impressive. Especially when you're kind of expecting to spend quite a bit of time. But I would not recommend for breakfast if they are really busy. read more

I can't say enough great things about this place. I come here every time we stay in Newport. Brought my girlfriend here a few weeks ago for dinner on a getaway girls' weekend and knew she would love it. Also regular there with my baby and hubby, who loves to play their puzzles strewn all over the community tables. Warm, friendly, chatty and totally yummy every time. DO IT--order dessert first! We have eaten here semi-regularly for 5+ years and have always had amazing meals. We usually go for breakfast (only Sundays). My dad used to make the best biscuits and gravy in the world when I was a kid. I love b&g but have stopped ordering it at restaurants (yuck). The b&g at ARR Place is the closest I have ever had, and it is delicious. The huevos rancheros, eggs benedict, and french toast are also delicious. The menus are seasonal, so hard to recommend specifics. My dinner favorites are the tuna, hamburger, and halibut when they have it. Desserts are all homemade, including the ice cream. Arr Place is more than just a restaurant; it's an experience. I felt right at home from the moment I walked in. I loved the random 80s toys scattered about, & Looney Tunes playing on TV was THE best! The locals at the bar playing cribbage with one of the owners was a nice touch also. Lovely ambience aside, the food was absolutely amazing!!!
