Given the St John location isn't on here yet, I'll put it here. Highland location, fantastic. St. John, horrible. All young kids who don't know how to multitask which tells me management isn't training properly and just hiring cheap labor. They turn the phones off because they're "swamped," which seems to be the only word they were trained to use. A very rehearsed response. I went in and there were 6-7 of us in line and 3 waiting. 3 kids working the front taking orders (one main girl and one going back and forth and another STANDING by the phone). Multiple kids throwing pizzas in the back (as you can see through the glass showcase). Turning their phones off isn't about being "swamped" it's about trying to manipulate consumers into thinking they're swamped if a consumer goes there in person. Shady business tactics to use on consumers in today's economy. Their prices are obscenely high. $17 for a small pizza with one topping is a joke. The son should not be running this business. Not worth it, take your money elsewhere. People only think it's good now because it's someplace new to try. There are four other pizza joints within 2-3 min from this place. read more

Delicious stuffed pizza with excellent mozzarella cheese and a lovely tomato sauce on top. An ample amount of sausage completed this deep dish specialty pizza. They also make yummy broasted chicken. Now in their 51st year Arrenello's is a south side treasure. read more

I grew up on Arrenello's but unfortunately moved away 35 years ago. Every time I visit a deep dish is a must. I did as I was home for Christmas and in addition to ordering a deep dish for dinner I ordered 2 to take home to Virginia. They cook it and then freeze it for you. I was planning to pick up my 2 pizzas Thu evening but due to me misreading the closing time I failed to show up before closing. They called us to remind us that they were about to lock up and we had 30 minutes to get the pizzas. Had they not called I would have showed up an hour after they closed and wouldn't have been able to get them before I left the next morning. Arrenello's Pizza is just a decent place to grab a slice. I don't eat here much, but it's my dad's go-to delivery place, so when he's in town we eat a LOT of it. They're always fast to deliver their pizzas, and they always show up hot, evenly cut, and looking pretty good. The sauce is a bit on the sweeter side, which I really like. They tend to put too much on for my liking though, and I honestly always forget to order it light on the sauce. It has a nice amount of cheese on it. The thin crust is a bit too thin and crunchy for me, but it's not bad. If I had my way, we'd order thick crust every time. Like I said, it's a place to get a pretty average piece of pizza. And average ain't bad. That said, I do think it's pretty expensive. A large cheese- that is, just cheese, no extra toppings- is about $19. That's a lot of money for an average slice, especially when that's not even with toppings added yet. All in all, it is what it is. Average pizza is better than no pizza, but in a place like Chicagoland where you can throw a rock and hit a pizza joint, you can have better. read more

I have no descriptor words besides yum. Ordering more than two a year. Always get special sauce and if you can try and get deep dish. This is the first time I've been to this location. This place was super clean with very friendly staff. Now about the pizza. It was very good. I wish the larger was a little larger. It actually needed less cheese and sausage. If the pizza was slightly bigger it would even out the pizza. The sauce is very good. It's a sweet sauce. It needed a little more. I'll definitely will be back and I got some awesome coupons for next time. I did order the wings and they were........... Not good and overcooked. I won't get those again. The pizza is good but it is way overpriced. They even charge you for crushed peppers and Parmesan cheese when you purchase a pizza. Who does that??? Peppers and cheese are condiments for the pizza and should be given out upon request. Their deep dish pizza is horrible!!!! I don't live close by but this pizza is absolutely delicious. I personally think they taste better than Giordanos, I like that the sauce is slightly sweet, and they perfectly brown the pizza. I've had Arrenello's for many years. We get it both in the Highland location and the Glenwood location. The people at Glenwood are MUCH nicer. Those who work in Highland are rude to customers, won't take coupons that expire one week before, and don't seem to have a handle on how long it takes for pizza to cook. The pizza is great. The sweet sauce is delicious. The reason I'm giving this a four is their pasta has made me sick, twice. My guess is that people rarely order the pasta and people aren't sure how to make it. The pasta was consistent years ago but since then has dropped significantly in quality. The one I ordered most recently sat it a pool of oil and tasted a little like vomit. It was the Penne Pomodoro. I swear, in 2011 it was delicious. In 2013 through now (I regret trying it again after waiting a few years), it's very unpleasant. Stick with the pizza. The pizza is really really good. Also, if you are in between Glenwood and Highland, visit the Glenwood store instead. read more

It pains me to leave a negative review for what I consider to be the best pizza place anywhere. Unfortunately, the manner in which my concern was mishandled by the manager and his staff justifies the 1 star review. Last night I ordered a medium chicken sausage and pepperoni pizza. I live in Chicago and made a special trip solely for this pizza. My family and I have probably bought hundreds of pizzas from this location over the past +20 yrs. This time there were bone fragments in the sausage. It was as if a chicken bone made it's way through the sausage grinder. Upon calling, the staff member assured me it was fennel seed and cumin. Clearly neither of these ingredients resemble bone fragments. I cook regularly with both. I know the difference. I rejected the notion of mistaking bone with fennel the staff member grew angry and tried to argue with me. I then asked to speak with the manager. She provided the number to their Tinley Park location where he typically works. After explaining the situation to him, he too passed if off as seasoning. Let me add that I've had this pizza several times and even vouched for it on Yelp (see my pic). He then conceded the sausage was not made in house, but he was still positive no error was made. He was insulted by the insinuation that a mistake had been made. He then angrily offered to replace the pizza, but before he took my information he hung up the phone. Amazed that an owner would conduct himself in such a manner. First and last customer service issue with Arrenelo's. It will be my last. read more

My first journey into the south side for pizza, and boy was it a mistake. People here doing the reviews said they grew up on it. Kind of reminds me of what those who like Emo in STL. I ordered the stuffed pizza. The first problem was the sauce. It wasn't the sweetness that I disliked as much as it was the texture. It tasted like pure tomato paste out of the can, extremely thick. Had to scrape it off. But that was just a little problem. The dough was still raw! I tried to eat just the sausage and cheese, but neither had any flavor. Only ate one piece and threw the rest away! If you did not "grow up" here, then I wouldn't recommend this pizza. Already drank two diet sodas to get the taste out of my mouth. Big disappointment. read more

Now I've been ordering from this place for years and the quality of the pizza used to always be great. But this one experience has definitely lost them a loyal customer. My pizza gets delivered at 930 at night and boy can I tell you this mess looks, feels, and taste disgusting. It's hard as a rock, cold, and the cheese is not gooey whatsoever. Basically cardboard on top of cardboard. I called to explain what happened and they gave the worst customer service ever. They told me I needed to return the entire pizza and another would be delivered in an hour. After this pizza took an hour and a half. Who wants to wait all that time after they haven't ate all day. About 12 years ago, Arrenello's was rated the #2 deep dish pizza in the Chicago area. For some bizarre reason, it's fallen off the list. However, I still crave this pizza when I'm at my parents' house. We used to order it everytime I came home from college because it was exactly the kind of meal that reminded me of home. The thing that makes Arrenello's deep dish different is the sauce. This is the sweetest tomato sauce I've ever tasted on pizza. For some people, that might be a turnoff. But if you're like me, you'll love how unique this sauce is (and how it compliments the other flavors in the pizza). When I was younger and ate meat, I used to always order pepperoni. The BEST pizza in the Chicagoland area. Period. I grew up on Arrenello's as my grandparents lived in Glenwood for years before eventually moving to Florida. Since moving to the city though I rarely get back to Arrenello's but when I do it's always a treat. The locations in Glenwood and Tinley Park are virtually the same. Never had a bad pie at either location. I always order a thin crust pepperoni or sausage pizza..YIMMY!The sauce is sweet and unlike any other pizza you'll ever taste. My only complaints are the hours. WHY do they open so late? If they were open during the day I'd get to enjoy them more frequently. Today was my first, and last time, ordering from Arrenello's. The pizza sauce was more sweet in certain spots on the pizza then others. We ordered wings as well, which we requested plain. They were very dark in color(almost black) and very hard, even in the inside (yuck). My children refused to eat more then one square of pizza. On tho of that, this place is very over priced. We order from the Tinley Park location all the time. Growing up on the SW side of Chicago, Palermo's on 63rd was our pizza place. They too, have the sweet sauce, and a rocking deep dish. When I moved out to Tinley, I realized the Palermos in Orland delivers to my new house. We ordered once. It was good. The next time, I decided to try Arrenellos, since we live 2 blocks away. I picked it up. I've never ordered from Palermo's again. There is no reason to go anywhere else. I agree, if you prefer spicy sauce, this may not work for you. We however, like the sweet taste of the sauce. They obviously use the freshest ingredients, and nothing is every rushed.
