We also ordered the fried calamari, it was chewy and looked like fish sticks, to top it off it almost felt like a deep-fried cheese stick. Our food took over 40 minutes to get to us. Ehhh....not a fan of crappy service. Came for happy hour on a Friday and arrived at 612pm. We went straight back to the bar area and saw a couple open tables, a few spots open at the bar and the couches were empty. Made a bee line for the couches and waited. And waited. One of the tables right in front of us already had a couple people sitting at it and the other table was empty. A bus boy came by and brought us water and we had to ask for menus. 4 older people showed up and sat at the other empty table. The male server came out a couple of times and greeted the 4 new people and had drinks delivered to the other table that was already there. My companion was ready to leave after about 10 minutes of being ignored. I finally flagged down the male server again who finally came over but I don't understand how he could miss us as we were sitting right there on red couches. Ordered the meatballs and the mussels/clams. Bread was yummy, other food was yummy, but being ignored really turned us off. We'll see if we give it another go, another time. read more

Visiting family in Scottsdale, and they wanted to take us to one of their two favorite Italian restaurants. Turned out to be a fun evening filled with good food and friendly service in a warm and inviting environment. Everything served, from the salads to the dessert met or exceeded our expectations. My Veal Shank Osso Bucco was tender and delectable. Seems like more and more restaurants are making this dish with pork. Sadly, it does not compare to veal. We were all filled to capacity. We got here right when it opened at 5 pm and watched as other people arrived. Seems like there are a lot of regulars who are greeted warmly with hugs. The warm bread was delicious with slightly crusty exterior, soft interior. We both ordered the same entree which we seldom do - cannelloni di carne. The description sounded so good and it was, but as I was eating it I wished I would have had some vegetables to go along with it. It is made of sheets of pasta rolled around prime beef cut in small chunks (almost to hamburger consistency) and mixed with ricotta (I think) and covered with tomato cream sauce and cheese then baked. Well, let me tell you all of you Monday's Lasagna special is absolutely delicious... It's big enough for two people. Layers upon layers of meat and noodle in a sauce, and not your typical red sauce. I could barely eat half and I'm stuffed. What a cool place. I highly recommend this place, and they do take out orders for those who want some amazing Italian and don't want dine in. I would really like to give this place a 5 star review because the owner/chef and our server Jamie both gave us 5 star service and the food and wine was worth 5 stars as well. So I will start with that. We went on a Saturday night (before Valentines Day), had reservations and were greeted by the owner. Very friendly and welcoming. Apologized for a probable 15 minute wait. No big deal to us, who comes on a Saturday/holiday weekend and doesn't expect to wait? We belly up to the bar and this is why the 4 star rating. I give the bartender a 2 and that is being generous. Benefit of the doubt it was 8:00 and maybe it had been a long day/night for her. There was literally 3 other people at the bar....we were not even greeted. Instead a menu was plopped down in front of us and a rather impatient look as she tapped her nails on the bar. We ordered some wine and then basically ignored. She put the tab on the counter and never asked if we would like another glass or even acknowledged our presence. This would have been much less noticeable had the new comers to the bar ( 2 other separate couples) not been greeted and thanked.... sigh. We are a conspicuous couple. We were treated unwelcome at the bar. We paid our tab, sat with empty glasses and waited for our turn to be seated. Back to the better stuff. Our table was ready, we were greeted and seated, our server Jamie was engaging and welcoming. He was patient with my special order request. Our food was amazing, my luv ordered the lobster ravioli and I ordered a chicken dish which name escapes me but was very delish. They sadly were out of bread so I cannot comment on that. The bottle of wine was wonderful and we never felt rushed or unwelcome. Instead, Jamie was generous with his time, made sure our food was everything we hoped and dreamed it would be and chatted about how he came to be there etc. We will for sure come back and try other menu items. Again the owner was a lovely lovely man and hopefully our experience with the bartender was just her having a bad moment. Benefit of the doubt.... but there is doubt there. Holy hell! Wow! Unbelievable!!! These guys listened and for the first time an Italian restaurant made a vegetarian dish crazy spicy. I told them to 'make me cry' and they delivered while I shed a tear. Kudos to this place. Food was delicious and the service was attentive, genuine, kind and well appreciated! I'm torn between shouting from the rooftops about how much I love Arrivederci's happy hour and keeping it as my own little secret so it doesn't become overcrowded. Well . . . here it goes, fingers crossed! We had been here for dinner a few times and were very pleased, we decided we needed to try their happy hour. I'm so glad we did; this is one of my new favorite quiet happy hour spots. Not quite as trendy as Va Bene, but that's a good thing. Less of a singles scene, less noisy and the food is just as delicious! Happy hour is M-F 5-7. We walked in a few minutes after 5 and were greeted by a very friendly bartender. He kindly brought us menus and explained that during happy hour all wines by the glass are $5. Wonderful!! He brought us some water (with a slice of cucumber, nice touch), took our drink orders, and gave us a few minutes to decide on food. In addition to the wine specials, there are happy hour food specials! Half off bruschetta, pizza, and other appetizers. We went with the Calamari In Umido (large tube calamari sautéed in white wine & clam broth with a touch of tomato) and the Margherita pizza. They make their own mozzarella here, people!! Before we received the appetizers, the bartender gave us some fresh bread with oil and balsamic to snack on. The calamari came out first and it was fabulous, as was using the free bread to sop up the amazing broth! Then came the pizza and while it didn't blow me away, it was still very good and that mozzarella is so creamy and fresh! As embarrassed as I am to admit it, we got three rounds of that yummy bread to use for that delicious broth of the calamari. The best part, the bartender didn't seem to mind a bit that we were being a little greedy with the free bread! What a nice guy! Did I mention the bread and broth were delicious? The bar area is nice with a small-ish size bar and a few high-top tables. My favorite part was the living room set up past the bar. Some comfy couches and a projection screen. I can't wait to plan a friendly group happy hour so we can lounge around on the couches drinking wine and snacking on appetizers. The service was great, the food was great, the price was right, and the atmosphere is cool and cozy. What more can a girl ask for? Love this place!! The food is fantastic, service is always friendly and feels very local - but high-end at the same time. Excellent live music in the bar and outstanding happy hour with great prices, great selection and high quality. Martinis here are incredible! Pizzas are made in a real wood fired oven on site from scratch and are amazing! Dinners are clearly made from scratch from old world recipes and are fantastic. I was served my beer and it took 15 minutes before I had to ask for a menu... I ordered the Rustica pizza (Tomatoes, Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Mushrooms and fresh mozzarella) I liked the flavor of the pizza and the crust was really good but the pizza it's self was pretty soggy in the middle I think it could have been cooked more but for $6.50 it's a deal... The only down side is that the place is a bit noisy, and a little crowded. People kept bumping into my chair as they passed, and while it's not overly loud, forget about holding a quiet private conversation. I had one of their specials that day, a shrimp ravioli, which was exceptional, with nice sized pieces of shrimp cut up into the sauce. The chef seems to really know what he's doing. read more

The owner of the restaurant was quite rude, and wouldn't accept our Groupon. He actually told us to go eat at another restaurant, and we did. He claimed we were trying to take advantage of him by using our Groupon, which was valid, and not expired. The Groupon says you must call and alert the restaurant first if you are using a Groupon. We did. There was only one other table seated in the entire place on a Saturday night at 6:15, which was our reservation time. Poor, poor experience. We will never go back. read more

This was a nice find. I love little hidden neighborhood eateries that serve great food. Really good authentic Italian food isn't always easy to find in Arizona. But Trattoria Arrivederci ("farewell" or "see you later" in Italian) is a staple here in the Valley and really offers a nice selection of Italian dishes on their menu. Chef Franco specializes in Nouvelle cuisine which is a more modern way of cooking that presents more lighter and delicate dishes with an emphasis on presentation. Owner Max Sahin helped opened this location in Ahwatukee in 2004 and was pleasant to chat with. When you walk in, you will notice that the lights are dimmed to offer a more intimate setting. The menu consists of a variety of pastas, seafood entrees and appetizers. Items are made from scratch using fresh ingredients and they also have a nice selection of wines to choose from. I took my mother here for dinner on a Friday night. Our server Morgan was a real pleasure to have as a server and really made our night. She shared a bit of her own Italian heritage and was very personable and friendly. I feel like this is something you don't see much in servers anymore. I have never tried lobster ravioli and she sold me on trying it. The dish was outstanding! The saffron cream sauce was nice and smooth and the ravioli are filled with generous portion of lobster tail and crabmeat. My mother got the Canneloni de Carne and really enjoyed it. Overall we had a really nice evening here. Probably my cons of the experience are that the parking can be a little tight and it was a tad bit warm in the restaurant for me (I'll admit I'm a cold weather guy). Let me first say I've been a fan of Arrivederci for years. That being said--this weekend wasn't a good one. My wife and I went expecting our normal, yummy food but it didn't come out that way. My wife had Shrimp Fra Diavolo and I had Chicken Parmigiana. My wife sent her food back; it was ice cold and the shrimp were rubbery. My plate was hot but the pasta was undercooked and the sauce was bland. I'm at home today; coincidence or not. We recently held a celebration of life event at this restaurant and the whole experience was top notch! Max was so great to work with, the food was amazing and the service was impeccable. We came in to meet with Max prior to the event and he graciously shared tastings of the appetizers he suggested, they were all incredible, and the sauces...so delicious! I would like to thank Groupon for introducing us to this gem of a restaurant in good ol' Ahwatukee. We went on a busy Friday night, and were seated immediately. The water we got right off the bat had cucumbers in it - which reminded me of the movie "The Other Guys", and it was tasty enough that I didn't order a beverage. Our waiter recommended the grilled eggplant appetizer, which, up to this point in my 36 years, is the best eggplant I've ever had. The fresh marinara served on top of it was nothing to scoff at, also some of the best I've ever had. For the main course I got the spicy penne w/ chicken and sausage, what was most impressive about this was the serving size. I had enough for a full meal on Saturday for lunch, and it was better the day after once the flavors had time to marry. The wife got the veal picatta - and said it was probably the best she had ever had outside of Italy. The complimentary flatbread was warm and delicious, and their homemade gelato was the perfect capper. We were waited on by the GM, who had a great sense of humor and was was one of the 1st waiters EVER to happily take our groupon - explaining that he's happy to know his marketing is working. The pasta was cooked perfectly, al dente. The cod was light and tasty. The shrimp linguine dish was flavorful and highly recommend it. This was our second time eating here this year. A Saturday evening about 6pm the restaurant was rather quiet except for a very loud family group of ten. We asked for a table as far away from them as possible. Our waiter was attentive and friendly and quite knowledgeable of the recipes of most of their dishes. He got very busy towards 7pm and left us for lengthy pauses. I'm glad we had our food before this happened. We ordered Chicken Cordon Bleu (Chicken breast, stuffed with ham and fontina cheese, breaded and topped with 4 cheese demi glace sauce served with rice and vegetables), and Cioppino dello Chef, which was a combination of clams ,mussels , calamari , baby clams and fresh fish in garlic red clam sauce over linguine. Unfortunately the rice on the chicken dish was cold, but we loved the the rest of this dish. My Cioppino was more than excellent! Tons of fresh tasting seafood, lovely sauce and perfectly cooked linguine. The bread, warm delicious focaccia served with olive oil and a dab of balsamic vinegar called out to us for two baskets. No room for desert. The glass of white wine was fresh, fragrant and had a rich taste. I take away half a star for the lapse in service toward the end and the cold rice, but since the food was so good I'll leave the 5 stars. Yes, we will be back! read more

I would have given this establishment 4 stars however the service is unsatisfactory. On this night, we felt like celebrating, so we decided to come to this place because google gave 4.3 stars. The host at the door greeted us and was very nice. We were sat down at the bar, and then this is where it went downhill. We waited about 10 minutes, and our server, Alexis, never came and asked us for our drinks or order, it was the busgirl who gave us our menus and cutlery. My husband and I could not figure out when, where, or what happen, or how we upset this lady. We have been observing her, thinking that she is just busy. NOPE, we had to wave her down and order our drinks and she turn around and says " GO AHEAD" with attitude. We had to wave her down again to order something to eat (appetizers), and she did not ask my husband if he wanted to order, then she took off right away the moment I said my order. We sat down in the middle, where she never bothered to come over and ask us how we are doing. Throughout the night, my husband had to wave another person to order his entree. Alexis was so nice and very personable to the other patrons however not to US. My husband and I were thinking we were just overthinking, until we got our BILL, and she over-charged us drinks. She never apologized for that action; in fact, she actually came over in front of us while staring us down at the same time. Bottom line, we went to this place to have a good time, and eat good food, however we were left dumbfounded and annoyed. She's very nice to the local patron she knows. Unfortunately, not in our case.
