I had ARS come out August 2011 to replace my capacitor and they upsold me a starter kit for an additional $300. I paid because I just wanted to escape the 100+ degree heat. 10 months later, my AC is out again and I called to schedule a tech to come between 12PM and 2PM. I received confirmation of this and waited for the call. It is now 6PM and I am still waiting. I have to miss a scheduled appointment this afternoon because they can't keep their word. For 4 hours they told me that I was next on the list and that someone would be out in 1-2 hours. I asked the lady on the phone to call the tech and ask when he would be ready and she refused. What a terrible company. If my parts did not originally come from them, I would not have called them again. Now I have to wait until these people finally come to fix the problem that should not exist in the first place since they "fixed" it 10 months ago. Do not use if you have any other choice. read more

Monday, May 28, 2012 I called these folks because my AC broke. I mean WAS NOT WORKING. The earliest they said they could get someone out was Tuesday afternoon around 2, and that they'd call when they were close by. To shorten the story, the tech showed up after 5 (I was cooking dinner) and "Frank" (the name on his coveralls) said, in writing the "lower motor" was broken and the "wheel" was "off". Okay. How much? $1169 to repair it but we don't know, it might be a week before we can get that part, but for $28xx (I don't have *that* in writing) he could replace the attic half of the unit. I can't afford to replace it. I tell him I need to talk to my husband but that we would probably repair it. I paid for the service call $79 and told Frank I'd call the company back with our decision. I called back within the hour and was told that they could have the part out tomorrow (Wednesday) and that it would be "about 1-1:30". About 6, "Jaime" shows up, sans parts, and says he's here to get the model/serial number but can't order the part because it's after 6pm. Oh, and by-the-way, you'll need to replace the circuit board and clean the coil for an additional amount (surprisingly totaling about Frank's replacement cost) but for $32xx he could replace the attic unit. He was unable to answer me why Frank, who was presumably competent, didn't tell me about the coil and the circuit board. I asked him to leave. read more

These folks are shysters'. I was charged $6000 for a repair that was supposed to sure a back-up problem I had. 1 week after the repair I was told to replace my toilet which I did. 3 weeks later my shower, tub and toilets were backing up again. I called 8 times for someone to come out and repair this issue. I was told a supervisor was taking care of it. The supervisor called me and promised to send someone out the next day. The next day, no call, no one showed up. I called again and now I was told that the supervisor was no longer with the company. No I am out $7000 for the repair and toilet and still have problems. We had 2 pipes break in the garage. Waited for a month for service. We had fixed them with hoses and clamps meanwhile so we could have water. When the service man came he started with a price of $1475. He got down to $750. He put in 2 6' copper pipes and 4 couplings. It is bad that he could gouge seniors so badly. But the contractors at ARS are all outpricing themselves so badly. But you have to pay when you need it done. read more

We called them and specifically asked when they could come because it was important to us to get our just clogged drain unclogged that day. They said they would come between 4 and 8 pm that day. We booked with them rather than other companies because we wanted to get the drain unclogged before work on our house we had going on the next day. At 6:00 pm, they called us and said they could not come that evening as promised. I certainly will not be calling them again. read more

A CUSTOMER LAST experience. If it was possible to give a 0 star rating I would. I had a confirmed appt window of 2-6p to have a disposal fixed or replaced before I went out of town the next day. At 3:15p I received a call that I was "definitely confirmed" but they would be running on the tail end of the range. At 5:30p I received a another call that I was "still confirmed" but they were running later than they thought and it would be 6:30-7:30p before they could get there. At 7p I received a call that no one was available and would I like to reschedule. I wasted half a day waiting around and no one ever showed up. If they had let me know on the first call or even the second I might have had time to get someone else out - as it was, they totally screwed me and thought I would still want to do business with them. Not even any courtesy call. At 4:20p, I called "Chuck" to express my displeasure ...he said he would call me back. He Did-Not, but a "field-tech called to say he just got the "order" and could there after he finishes his current job and gets the required parts ... WHAT? I called "Chuck" back to reschedule for tomorrow (10a-2p). 5/7/15 : ARS customerservice did NOT respond to my email. So, last night I FAX'd that email-doc to them; voila: "Chuck" w/ARS called this AM and offered to fix this problem w/o charge next Monday afternoon. That offer is much better than I expected. I am quite pleased. ... 5/6/15: Still waiting for them to respond to my email requesting service for using an inappropriate fitting of steel-metal ... { minus 2-stars }... .... 5/5/15: In '05 they replaced my 40-gal electric water heater & at a competitive price ... including new copper/brass connections, di-electric nipples and galvanized drain-pain. Now, 10 years later, the WH it is still working great, with NO sediment noticed from drain-valve. ... But, apparently the installer used an inappropriate "steel-nipple" between the brass shut-off valve and brass-fitting at the end of the 24" flex-copper connector. ... so we have some serious bi-metallic corrosion at the union requiring replacement. I have asked the company for an reasonable & appropriate offer for affecting these necessay repairs. ( I agee to pay for replacement parts ) Depending on their response I may have to adjust my rating & report here. .... read more

I first dealt with them in July 2014 when my AC went out. Being a new home owner, I had heard good things about them & called. They came out the next day. The tech checked things over & alerted me that the capacitor had blown & he had to add 4 gallons of freon. I was charged $800 & sold a maintenance agreement. Fast forward to this past weekend..AC wasn't cooling again, so I call & they come out the next day. The tech looks at the previous techs papers & scratched his head. I knew something was up. He explains that he's going to do a freon leak check first. Well, it was determined that all my freon had leaked out because there was a big leak! I questioned him as to why the previous tech didn't test it before he left & he defended him. Needless to say, I need to replace the coil now, & they want $1500 just for the labor! I called another company & their bid came in at $700. I'm wondering, if the first tech had done his job right the first time in July, would I be having this issue now? And as for the hot water tank they wanted to replace for me, $3000 is highway robbery. My handyman did it for $300. Highly disappointed. read more

I don't know why you call it tune up when it's just a consultation. I was disappointed thinking that some type of physical servicing was gonna be done, b/c that is what a tune up is. All that was done is the tech looked at my furnace and came back with pictures and a 2k plus quote. he stated that my drain pan was cracking, and the angle of the way he took the picture made it look as if my entire drain pan was badly rusted. I checked it myself, the rust is extremely light and it more calcium and lime deposits, and that was only in a corner the rest of the drain pain is clean. nothing a little clr or iron out and a Brillo pad can fix. the quote, Drain pain $300-$500, some uv light $800, vacuum duck and coil cleaning, 1k, and some surge thing, $300.. I spoke to a rep f are that I met in lowes or Home Depo and they inform me that the tech was suppose to check my unit outside and was it. he didn't even enquirer about my unit. that b/c he was to busy trying to sell me a quote with unnecessary stuff. don't get me wrong his customer service was great, If he was just honest and not trying to b/s me to close a sale, I would have made the purchase. I was advised to have him come back out to both inspect and clean my ac unit, you only get 1 chance with me. oh after I paid for the no "tune up" and he wrote the quote, he lingered staring at me waiting for me to purchase the quote. Worst service ever. NOT RELIABLE. Moral of the story - ARS has horrible customer service and they leave people stranded without use of their plumbing. Don't use them!!!!!! All plumbing in our home was clogged so we called ARS. They came out between 10-2 as promised but then were unable to do anything because they "had to come back tomorrow between 10-2 to snake our lines. We will call when we are on our way." The next day, we were home bound all day waiting for the plumber to show back up. No one came between 10-2. At 245p, we called in and asked for an updated. They said dispatch would call us with an ETA but someone would be there that day. 445p - no call. 450p, we call back in, report the problem and lack of service. The operator said they ask dispatch what was going on but dispatch could be not be reached but supposedly a message was left with the plumbing manager to call us. I explained to them that I was 6 months pregnant, vomiting often due to pregnancy and severely needed use of my bathroom. I even asked if someone wasn't able to come out, to let me know ASAP and I would get a hotel. We were promised, again, that someone would be out to our home that day. 7p - no calls from anyone. No word from anyone ever. Next day - no calls or show up. We called another plumber who was there in 2 hours and fixed the issue in 15 minutes. Three days later - no calls or show up. read more

Note the # of 1 star reviews and every negative getting an apology, yet, little action to change a clear downward trend! How many times will the technicians not show-up within the window, a 4hr window?! Last time the tech called past the deadline to say he was on his way. One hour later he showed. We have had to have a second tech multiple times to resolve as it appears they just send a body in an attempt to meet the deadline or stop the clock giving them the best chance to meet performance metrics . Techs are constantly up-selling. Maybe it is the only way they can meet quotas and make a living. It is no wonder given the supervisors are more worried about cost, than honesty and doing the right thing. Quality has gone way down in the past few years, thus, I will not use ARS again. read more

This business is unreliable. I scheduled an AC tune-up for Tuesday at 5 pm. A dispatcher called me at 4.54 pm to let me know that the technician is on the way and will arrive in 30-45 min. At 6.50 pm the dispatcher called again saying that a technician arrived, nobody was home and stayed in front of the house for 1 hour then left. Although in a polite way, the dispatcher said the missed appointment is my fault, because I did not call to check the arrival time, and as a customer that's what she would have done. I told her that as a business, I would have called the customers if they were not at home, in order to secure the revenue... Got a call at 5 telling me that they could get to me only tomorrow. I told them that that was NOT an option. Rep said that she would check and get back with me soon. More than an hour later she called back and said there would be a plumber out within a half hour. Waited more than 45 minutes later and called them back only to be placed on hold while the dispatcher checked with the plumber about the situation. The word of the day today is: Terrible. ARS Rescue Rooters absolutely dropped the ball today. Que Day 1: Rescue Rooters technician come by my house around 11:00, unfortunately I did not hear the doorbell go off. Now the technician leaves a note on my doorknob saying he was here from 11:45 to 12:45 I should have knew then that the company or the technician there sending to my house is terrible. Most likely he stayed for around 5 mins and left. So I call them at 1:00 saying can he come back it hasn't even been 20 minutes since he left. Ars tells me no they will send him out 8:00 tomorrow. Que day 2: I wake up at 8:00 and I wait... I wait....and I wait some more. It's nearing 11:00 I call ARS and they say the technician has a window time of 8:00 to 12:00 so I wait some more. I called them again saying the technician never showed up. Now I'm getting angry because I'm completely exhausted and I have no hot water as why I'm calling them. They tell me there will be a technician at my house in a hour tops! Now whoever is running the calls for them are also terrible because there just telling me what I want to hear without actually doing anything. Had ARS out 2 years ago to replace a zone control board. They convinced me to also put in surge protectors to avoid a similar situation in the future because we suspected a surge had caused the problem. Except two years later I'm having issues again and called them out only to be told the control zone board is bad again. My house is only 7 years old. They still use the same manufacturer and want several hundred dollars more to replace the board again with the exact same part. Their warranty is only good for one year on the part and labor is covered for only 30 days. I tried to call and discuss my concerns with customer service but after more than 24 hours, they didn't call back. I was also supposed to get a free item with the service call that I was charged $80 for, but they didn't bring it. I hired ARS to replace my A/C unit in 2007 in my previous house, and found out that this company subcontracts out their installation work without letting me know. Their subcontractor's crew didn't speak much English, and didn't have the right hardware to finish the $4300 job properly in the same day. Called ARS but they won't help! So I decided not to use ARS ever again. I recently saw some people posted reviews of ARS for doing "annual a/c maintenance" for $50/unit, and want to share my experience in 2016. Around 2016 Xmas, I was in Home Depot near S.Fry and Grand PKWY, and was chased by an old lady offering A/C unit annual "inspection & maintenance" for $29/unit. Thinking that's a great price from Home Depot, I took the offer for Home Depot to check my 3 a/c units for $87+tax. My surprise was that an ARS crew came to do the job, on behalf of Home Depot. The ARS crew lead told me afterwards that "modern a/c unit has nothing for them to do maintenance, evaporators are in sealed units, can't be cleaned..." I asked "what did you do for my money?" He replied "we found that the air pressure before and after the evaporator was unbalanced although your filters are clean.... it's a problem that we see a lot of builders didn't do it right during their installation.... we can add a box to fix it for $5600 per unit..." Wow these ARS guys said that without blushing. Later, I found out that ARS crew had broken the seals of all my 3 evaporators' boxes. I contacted the Home Depot to have them reach out to ARS to come back to re-seal my evaporators' boxes. But they NEVER did. If I have an A/C problem, I for sure won't call ARS!!! read more

We had a Moen faucet installed by this company. Cost was 623.00 for faucet and installation. . (Said he gave me a discount of 67.00, original price was 675.00). Price for faucet at Home Depot is 220.00. Garbage disposal did not work after repairman left. Called him and he said motor was probably bad in disposal. Purchased new one and had installed by another company who discovered after installation that previous man had re- plugged the disposal into dead socket after installing the faucet. Did not need garbage disposal. After about 950.00 spent, I have new faucet and garbage disposal. Please check around before using this company. read more

This company replaced a drain on our AC on Wednesday. It took 3 technicians on 2 different days to do the job because there seemed to be some communication issues. Today, they sent someone out to do a complimentary tune-up. There is no actual work that occurs during this appointment. Just an assessment of my system. The technician told me I needed a whole new system. I wasn't initially offered a quote for the system, the drain and all of the labor... instead they did a short term fix yesterday for $1200 and tried to hit me up for a whole new system today. The manager admitted they dropped the ball when I called them on this. It feels like I was taken advantage of by ARS. I've called customer service and am expected to receive a call back tomorrow regarding a full refund. I will update my post after. read more

I had a clogged kitchen drain that keeps getting clogged frequently. I have unclogged it a few times myself so I called ARS to schedule a camera line inspection for $69. The technician shows up 2 hours late from my window appointment, and he doesn't have a camera equipment because "it's too expensive for them so only supervisors have access". My appointment which I specifically asked for was for the camera line inspection. He convinced me to do the drain unclogging for $250, and says that the camera line inspection will be done by a supervisor later at "no charge". I called ARS after 2 business days to schedule the camera line viewing. Now they tell me that the drain line has to be completely clear of debris or anything else before they do the camera line inspection. To clear the line completely they have to do their Hydro Blast service for $375. At this point, it feels like I am being scammed by a professional. This service call went from $69 camera line inspection, to a $250 drain unclog, to a potential $375 hydro blast. This is very unprofessional of a company that I thought had a good reputation. Over the past several months, between two properties, I have given Houston ARS/Rescue Rooter well over 9K worth of business with installs of A/C and all kinds of plumbing work for installing fixtures and repiping a shower. Last week, I had an appt for a toilet install. The tech came out and was nice enough, but I was told the appt needed to be rescheduled to today. Last night I still had not heard anything about confirming the appt, normally, I get would get an email the day before, but had received nothing. So, I called them last night around 5 PM to confirm that the appt was still on. I was told it was on the schedule with a window from 7:30 AM-10 AM. At 9:45, I still had heard nothing, so I called them. I was told, "they are probably running late", and if I did not hear anything by 10:30, to call back, and they were sending my message to their dispatch. I was also told that there was a note about a missed call. I have been sitting here at home waiting since 7 AM, no one has called me at all, and I advised the rep of this. Anyways, I gave it till 11, but still nothing, so I called again. After being on hold again, I was told that the original tech was out sick (had been all week) and that they had to send someone else. Seriously? If he was out sick all week, why was I not told this when I called the night before to confirm the appt? Now, it's noon, and I was told they were sending another tech out with a 2-4 PM window. This has been THE WORST level of customer service I have ever experienced with a service provider. At this point, I will need to reevaluate whether it is worth it to continue having ARS/Rescue Rooter servicing my properties. My house is brand new (3 years). I usually do a lot of research before i call any inspection or repair job. When the guy came I told him the upstairs doesnt cool properly. And I think my systems are reversed. He said ok I'd look into it. All he did was go into the attic and look at the filters, then went outside and made sure the coolant was right. HE NEVER ONCE CHECKED ANY OF THE ROOMS. HE NEVER CHECKED THE AIR VENT FLOW OR RETURN. Then he immediately came back to me and started UPCHARGING!!! Then he charged me double due to two AC systems and didnt say that in the beginning! My brother and my father warned me about these guys because they did the same to them. Should have listened. Called ARS for a plumbing issue at 10:00 pm, thought I'd just leave a message, but they actually ANSWERED (really!) and asked if I needed someone there that night. So, that was a huge plus in my book. Sent someone the next day to look, and he gave me an estimate. Was not an emergency, but needed to be fixed, so they sent an actual plumber the next day, who gave me a much lower price than the first guy. So, I subtracted a star for inconsistency in estimates (even though I paid less, I still don't understand why this relatively simple issue was so difficult to estimate). The plumber they sent was terrific. Courteous, clean, professional, and fixed me up in about 15 minutes but stayed for another 20-30 minutes to make sure the problem was fixed for good. I've now stored ARS in my phone for future use. read more

Never once was I ever called with an update and only after several calls did I ever get an answer of if and when I could expect them to show up. I had to pay almost $2,000 for a service call which was placed about 6 pm and the service man Afonso didn't come until almost midnight to fix a broken pipe. Worst experience ever with an install. I ended up with them as a contractor for home depot (Which I will add under home depot review as well since they didn't have any other options). Hot water heater installers never showed up. I took off work because the window of 10-2 was such a huge gap of the day.They weren't even apologetic. I was so upset I called hone depot to make a complaint. This contractor was rude and unprofessional from start to finish. The killing part was I called to get an estimate and they couldn't tell me. They said it depends. I just wanted high end to low end kind of estimate but I said Ok well let me call a few more people and I'll get back with y'all. They called back 20 minutes later on my work direct line which I never gave them and doesn't show up on caller I'd. This means they called the operator on the main number and got transferred. Then didn't want to get off the phone when I said I was in the middle of something and I'll call back. They kept saying it will only take a minute. Well I wasn't alone in the office and didn't want everybody to hear my business so I insisted that they let me call back. I asked what the callback number was and the woman had the audacity to say "the same one you called on", Well I didn't have the number because I just dialed the number from the website and thought it would be easier for her just to give me the number. They did all this harassment and didn't even call or show up. I called them at 130p on the day of the install to see how far out the tech was. They said they don't come in to College Station on Tuesdays. I asked why hadn't someone called and told me they made a mistake. They should have saw on a calendar or through dispatch thar I was scheduled wrong. The answer to my question was "I don't know". I asked for a manager. He got on the phone and let me ecplain what happened. His response "that is correct we dont come to College Station on Tuesdays and I dont know why they didnt call you". No apology for wasting my time, nothing. They didnt care whatsoever. Never again. read more

They came out yesterday to look at a clogged drain line. The technician told me that the line was broken and had clay in it. He said he couldn't show me the camera, because it was too dark. That seemed unusual, but didn't trigger anything that seemed wrong. Then, he asked if I wanted the $7,000 reroute package to fix the drain line. I told him I'd have to think about it and would want a second opinion. He asked if I wanted to schedule anything and I repeated a second time, "No, I will need to double check with other folks." He comes back in and asks for payment, for a $69 + 15 (truck fee?). I tell him to put it on a credit card. When he asks, "The whole amount?" I say, "Yeah. $84?" "Oh, I thought you wanted us to fix it for $7,000." This is when I started to really question what was going on. He leaves and everything seems alright. Out $84 and a somewhat shady technician. Later that night I hear some scratching in the pipes. I walk outside and the technician didn't bother to put the cap back on the drain line access -- so I have rodents (and insects) climbing into the drain line. Some of the bugs were able to come up my sink and into my home. I cover it with duct tape and call Rescue Rooter. They don't contact anyone. I call Corporate Customer Relations and they promise to have someone call me back. Nobody calls, so I call back. They say that they will come out and replace the plug (that was stolen by the technician). They "doubt" any animals could get in, since the line was so clogged (says the supervisor... who hasn't even been to see the job). Except for the fact that we had insects for sure get in thru the kitchen sink drain and heard scratching from a rodent. They promise they're going to come out and replace the cap -- but I'm sure they'll try to charge me for it. They said to "see photos" of the clog, they'll require me to pay nearly $400 to see it (and they'll mark where it is), even though they were supposed to show me in their visit yesterday. But hey, it's OK! They'll discount whatever I pay them to reroute (off of that $7,000) when they show me that! So it'll ONLY be $6,600 now! Two estimates I received after their estimate yesterday -- one was $2,600 and another was $3,400. Don't waste your time with these shady clowns. Reading these reviews make me regret I ever bothered calling them and not a plumber in the area. read more

Update.....At 5:50 pm, a "dispatcher" called and said he still had my job on his board. By then I had already called another company who had a driver there in 30 mins, ran the snake and was done in 15 mins total. ARS left a comment on my previous post. Your people in call center show the companies attitude, noy some kiss ass in corporate. They don't care about providing their customers with service, they people in the call centers made it feel as though I was an imposition on their time. read more
