North Houston, I-45 @ FM 1960. A/C had stopped cooling. Outside temp was high 80's. Called on Monday morning, 06/03/24. Mike (owner?) answered and said he would send out Stephan that afternoon at 2:00 p.m.. I left to take a return to the USPS on Red Oak but couldn't get away in time for the appointment. Stephan called as I was leaving the Post Office and he agreed to wait until I got home. Stephan quickly diagnosed the problem (failed capacitor) and had a replacement in hand. He explained the cost, which was more than fair. Stephan quickly installed the replacement and tested to insure it was working properly. He went inside and checked and adjusted the thermostat at no additional charge. High quality work at a more than fair price. I'll definitely use this provider in the future. read more

I just got off the phone with Mr. Reliable and not only am I extremely dissatisfied but I also feel insulted by the dispatch manager that I spoke with. I explained that I was unaware that Comfort Squad was bought out by Mr. Reliable, so I called them for a service because my drain from the hvac drip pan appeared to be draining quite a bit from the hose in the attic. I have a service plan with Comfort Squad, so I called them to see if there is a bigger problem or a clog. The service tech came for 5 min and said you need a plumber because your sink on the other side of the house is draining slowly and that is probably the issue. Ultimately, that may be the issue, but as I said the tech was here maybe 5 min. He then states the cost is $50.00. I said for what. You have been here 5 min. I state I have a service plan from Comfort Squad, even at that point he still does not point out that Comfort Squad was bought out and we don't use their service plan. He said, I will let the office know. So then the office calls me and states that I have a charge of $50.00. I explain, I had a service plan, and that the tech was here for 5 minutes or less. So I say, go a head and invoice me, I think this is BS but go ahead and invoice me. The dispatch manager then tells me how they are no longer Comfort Squad and I asked why haven't you sent out a notice to all of the past clients of Comfort Squad and let us know what changes to expect. He then states, "well we can not come out for any new services until the $50.00 is paid." This is where I felt insulted because I already requested the invoice and said I was going to pay, why are you telling me if I do not pay..." Unfortunately, I am extremely dissatisfied with this entire process. Because now that I think of it, why didn't the person I set the appointment with yesterday on the phone inform me it would be $50.00 and that they were no longer Comfort Squad. If I could give no stars I would. First tech came out misdiagnosis the problem. Got a roofer he found the problem. The tech came back out and said yea that's the problem. Against my better judgment I schedule the service call. The tech arrived stating it's more work than expected. Said it would take more hours than originally account for. NEVER AGAIN!!!! I which I would have never called them, I had a very, very bad experience. They took advantage of my age and because I was cared that my AC unit would make more damage to the house. My AC unit started leaking and they send a supposedly Technician, to me he was a lying Salesman, he told me the problem was the installation form the former AC company and the repair would be $6000.00 and he checked the outside unit and laughed and said "IT IS 10years OLD. My outsde unit was working fine my AC inside was installed 5 years ago. Like I said he took advantage of my age, I am in my 70s and I ended up buying a new Unit Inside and Outside for $15,000.-, which is a lot of money for me, he was trying to sell me the one for $20,000.-, did not work. I later one called the owner and he said that the repair would have been only $2000.-. I guess it makes them feel like a MAN to rip retired people off. Then a supposedly other Technichen came after it was installed and I wanted the Thermostad changed, he said "This is the ONLY thermostat existing for AC units and it CANNOT be set higher then "80" BECAUSE NOBODY WANTS THAT. Another big time lair, really made me sick. I called the owner again and he sent his service manager and assistant, this time real technicians, those to I would like to give 5 stars or more, they did an excellent job and they did not ly. The owner said that I would slander him, well I told him, all I do is tell the truth. I also canceled the first inspection, because I am terrified that he send a supposedly technichan and he would break something or would say something needs repair so the can CHARGE A LOT OF MONEY. I NEVER WANT TO SEEN OR HEAR FROM THEM AGAIN. When I talk to owner about the price had said, he needs to charge that because he needs to feed his kids. This is our first time ever writing a review about a company. Even if the service we receive is not the greatest, we don't write reviews, but this experience with Mr. Reliable goes beyond what I would consider horrible service. I want people to know that this Mr. Reliable company is a bunch of scammers. If we did not stop to think things through, we would have fallen victim to their selling tactics, which almost scammed me and my wife out of $14,000. That would have been a strain on my family. I called this company out on August 4, 2025 and told them the issue we were having. When Sergio Estrada came out, he told me it was my circuit board and my blower motor, which would cost anywhere from $4k - $5k to replace. I said, "What! so how much is a complete a/c job to replace the inside and outside units?" He said, "$14k". Well, we have been in this house for 15 years, so I decided to go ahead and get the whole unit replaced. He then mentioned financing and we got approved for the standard 12% interest. He left telling us their Mr. Reliable team could come at 3:00 p.m. the next day. After he left that evening, something was not sitting right in my spirit. I told my wife to wait, and I started researching. The next day, I called two other companies to compare pricing. One company quoted me $9,500 for an inside/outside unit replacement. The other company actually came out to do a diagnostic and told me it was my capacitor and circuit board. They ended up replacing those two items for $1k and our a/c works just fine. They quoted us $9,800 for a new inside/outside unit in the event that we wanted to go ahead with a replacement. I just want to say to the public, please do your homework! Mr. Reliable will tell you anything just to make a sale, instead of telling you what you really need. And even if it is what you need, they will overcharge you. If we had rushed our decision we would have paid way more than what we needed to pay for the job. And I just don't understand how Mr. Reliable has all these 5-star reviews. Even that is a red flag! Please take the time to research and call around so you do not fall victim to companies like these who do not really care about the public but are looking to make a quick dollar. read more

Update. I have had a conversation with the owner. He assured me if I had called them back when ac refused to run they would have responded immediately. It was actually easier for me to fix than wait however other customers can be assured that their units will run. Also this has been used as a training item for their techs. As to pricing apparently capacitor replacement costs are highly variable in the industry as the call out costs can make this low dollar item very high. They would probably have worked with me to lower the cost of 2 replacements, similarly 2 blower cleanings should be less than 2x 1 blower if done at the same time. The point is to check pricing and request bundled packages whenever possible. Original review below. I have a service contract with this company. 2 days ago they came out to do a heating inspection as part of the contract. The technician checked the capacitors on the 2 outside units and declared them weak and in need of replacing (which is true). Today I went to turn on the upstairs AC for the 1st time since he left and the condenser outside would not run. I took off the cover and saw that he had broken off the female disconnect on the capacitor to the fan and just left it broken. I installed a new disconnect and everything now runs. Also he quoted me $350 to replace each capacitor ($700 total). The highest quality capacitors (Genteq) are less than $30 each and the job is at most 15 minutes. Even with 1 callout there is no way that is a $700 job (what a rip-off) Blower units upstairs need cleaning, quoted over $700 each to clean. Typically this should be $150 to $250 , at most $450 for a difficult cleaning. Needless to say when my service contract runs out I WILL NOT BE RENEWING read more

First time I turned on the the AC this year, I noticed that It does not get cold so I decided to call Mr. Reliable Heating & AC trusting their name and they never disappointed me. Mr Andy Imler a very knowledgeable technician came by and explained every technical detail made sure that I understand what the problem is (leaking evaporator coil). Replacement and repair is done by Mario who is very precise and has left a very neat job. AC had been out for two days. We had received a quote that we knew was way too high. I called Mr. Reliable late in the afternoon and our tech Alan arrived within 90 minutes. He diagnosed the same problem but gave us a very reasonable quote. The work was performed the next morning. They operated in a very tight area behind the house and seamlessly removed and replaced a fence to get the compressor in. I have used Mr. Reliable twice. First time I had a an issue with the system cooling enough and was making a funny noise. They came out, diagnosed the issue, fixed the problem, and recommended more freon. A few hours later everything was back to normal. Second time I used them was when my entire unit had a major leak and the whole system needed replaced. The owner was extremely fast to respond, helped me out with competitive pricing, and got my unit replaced the same day!!!! In Texas heat this was crucial. Pricing was very fair but I never base anything I purchase on price. The owner, techs, and work provided was 10/10. The company cares about their clients and puts in excellent work.
