We have used ARS several times they are always fantastic to work with. This time we had a kitchen sink clog in our older home and the plumbing is awful!!! They were very timely and even called to keep me updated on when they would be arriving and who would be arriving. When James arrived he was very nice looked at the issue explained what he would do to resolve the issue. Background My mother and I were shopping at Lowes Home Improvement when we were approached regarding a promotional HVAC inspection. We paid approximately $30 for a Lowe's-authorized contractor to evaluate our existing HVAC system. The inspection identified several concerns with our existing equipment, including a noisy blower motor and evidence that a refrigerant sealant product had previously been introduced into the system. Because multiple issues were identified and repair costs were substantial, we elected to purchase an entirely new HVAC system rather than continue repairing the old equipment. During the sales consultation, Comfort Specialist Christian Blanco explained the replacement process and repeatedly emphasized that the installation would include: Replacement of all major HVAC components Installation of new refrigerant lines Removal of the old equipment Removal of installation debris and cleanup of the work area These representations formed the basis of our purchasing decision. Chronological Timeline Initial Installation (June 4-5) During installation, the crew initially prepared to cut and reconnect the existing refrigerant line set to the new outdoor condenser rather than install new refrigerant lines. Because this conflicted with what had been represented during the sales process, I questioned the installers regarding the discrepancy. Following those discussions, Christian Blanco assisted in ensuring that the promised new refrigerant lines were ultimately installed. While I appreciate Christian's efforts to resolve this issue, the fact that the installation initially proceeded in a different manner than what had been sold raised concerns regarding communication between the sales and installation teams. Installation Cleanup One of the most disappointing aspects of this project involved cleanup. As of June 24, nearly three weeks after installation, I continued discovering construction debris throughout the attic. Items found included: Sections of old ductwork Roofing material containing exposed nails Sharp sheet metal remnants Large cardboard packaging from the new equipment Miscellaneous construction debris Some materials were found beneath insulation or in less visible portions of the attic rather than being removed from the home. Because the attic serves as a storage and service area, leaving sharp construction debris behind presents an unnecessary safety concern. Photographs documenting these conditions have been retained. Access to Personal Areas During the installation I observed two situations that raised concerns regarding respect for the homeowner's property. My mother's blood pressure monitor had been removed from its storage case and left open on another table in her bedroom. Additionally, my bedroom door, which had been locked prior to the installation, had been opened during the work, apparently to obtain access to electrical power for an extension cord. Although I cannot determine precisely why these actions occurred, neither situation was discussed with me beforehand nor explained afterward. These incidents diminished my confidence in the overall professionalism of the installation process. Electrical Service Visit Recognizing that the installation would require city inspection, I contacted ARS to request that these items be completed prior to inspection. Despite multiple contacts, I received little response until I informed GoodLeap that the installation would not pass inspection in its current condition. Shortly thereafter, ARS scheduled the electrical work. However, Kevin (Electrician) stated that because of the home's age, the installation was "grandfathered" and that a service light and receptacle were not required. I explained that I understood major permitted work typically requires compliance with current electrical code. Kevin again stated they were not required. Only after I pointed out that the original furnace location already contained a service receptacle did Kevin agree to install one light and one receptacle, describing it as a courtesy. He also stated that he lacked the materials necessary to install additional lighting or receptacles. On 13 July I posted a review about ARS totally ignoring my various requests and email, and was given by a Quality Assurance Manager from ARS, called Kim, the following phone # (919) 882-0664. I've called from my cell and home phone, and the given number is not a working number. So it seems ARS is still avoiding contacting me about my still under warranty AC Furnace unit. Finally, after calling ARS again and insisting to get a response, I was put in touch with the Resolution Department. Hopefully the issue will be solved. Had ARS come out for their highly promoted $49 tune up special. When the technician came, I did state that I was having problems with one of the systems. He confirmed there was a problem, that I had a leak in the evaporator coil. Quote to replace the coil... $4,250.00 !!! That's a lot! But it did get me to ask for a quote to replace the whole system, which may have been part of their goal. But that's not the outrageous part! If you look at the attached quote for replacing the coil, you'll notice that it states... Part Under Warranty. So it's basically FREE, plus something for processing/handling. The main cost is the labor. Three other estimates for replacing the coil... $1,200 - $1,500, ONE THIRD of what ARS quoted. Obviously I went with someone else and the system is running great. I've used ARS in the past. NEVER AGAIN! Not even for a tune up. Follow up... The ARS response to my review basically says they can charge much higher prices because they are a premium service provider, because they provide exceptional service, etc. Premium service provider? I had a regular maintenance check with ARS and the technician told me four things were wrong with my system and the repair would be $8,000. Granted my system is old and will need to be replaced at some point yet it is still working. The technician then said a sales representative could meet with me. That person was so busy trying to sell me an overpriced system ($12,000 to $20,000) rather than meeting my needs. I had a second opinion and the technician said there was nothing wrong with my system for now. In fact, the maintenance was not done properly and my unit was left with a wire touching the fan which could have led to a fire. I wish they would have just done the maintenance properly rather than trying to make a sales pitch. I called them and they said a service manager would call me back but never did. Terrrible and sleezy company- we used them with an offer to service our HVAC through Home Depot and the sale guy went to work acting like he was doing work while taking our system apart, and after this process, aggressively tried to force us to buy a new system (after diagnosing several 2,400 repairs, most likely bogus) at our dining room table and would not leave easily when we told him we would like to wait. I beleive this company is full of scammers and am planning to issue a formal complain. I have never had a repair or technician come into my home in an aggressive manner such as this. I had a yearly maintenance check done by ARS Raleigh, and somehow my perfectly working unit stopped cooling the very next day. This is a 3-year-old system that had no issues before their visit. I've now spent the entire day waiting for someone to fix the problem they likely caused, and the only update I've received is: "the technician will let you know when he is on the way." I have a service contract with the company. It took them a month to repair our AC in 100 deg. weather. Now, the area they worked in, they damaged a drain pipe and left it. We've had a hurricane off the coast, humidity is off the charts, and the drain pipe that we found they had damaged is leaking onto our ceiling in our living room. We've left messages, we've been told a manager will call. Nothing, we put a temporary patch on it to stop the leak. We still have not heard a word from them. If they can't make good on our service contract, then they need to refund us. Horrible customer service, their local office is locked down, they won't answer the door. I had received a call from ARS saying that they had had a cancellation and wanted to know if I wanted to move my appointment up which I happily said yes. I received a confirmation and then a text from the technician when he was on his way. He arrived promptly and proceeded to explain to me what he was going to do and how long it would take. His name was Edgar. I've had several technicians over the years, perform service and also installations at my home and all have been very professional. Edgar went above and beyond. Not only was he professional, but he was very engaging, very intentional, personable, respectful of me and my home, and very thorough. He kept me appraised of what he was doing as I have two separate HVAC units. After inspecting each unit, he explained everything that he did in depth, but in layman's terms that I could understand. He showed me pictures and videos of both units as well as readings from instruments that he had taken measurements from, all the while explaining what they were. I would like to request Edgar to be my technician for all of my maintenance and subsequent calls if possible. He's a fine young man, knows his stuff, and was a pleasure to be around. On February 20, ARS came out to my home to do a regular maintenance on my heating unit. Kenneth came out and performed what I thought was a maintenance and charged me the fee. He told me that my system was fine and recommended an air purifying service which cost $8,000! I declined. Two weeks later, it became hot outside so I proceeded to turn my AC on. Something seemed off because the unit outside was not coming on and the air was coming out cool. I decided to call the company that installed my unit thinking something they did was messing up now considering my unit is only 3 years old. They came out and immediately asked me who serviced my unit last and I told them. They informed me that the person who performed my maintenance unplugged my outside service disconnect and did not plug it back in. He also informed me that this is a common scheme that ARS does so that they can get the homeowner call them to come back to their home and charge them more money and also give their technicians more hours. He knew this as he is a former employee of ARS, btw. I called them immediately and demanded a refund as they could have messed up my unit. At this moment in time, I have not heard a word back from them. Please do not use this company but if you do, please make sure they do what they say they are doing. My mom has had to move out of her home this week because it's 42 degrees inside! This company does not stand behind their warranty and has horrible communication skills. The only legitimate update was to replace a capacitor on one of my systems.. They recommended replacing a fan motor on one of my heat pumps for $2443.00. I received a quote to replace an existing 3 ton HVAC there was no extra work needed to install the new system. The first quote I received from ARS was for $21,000. After a little negotiations they dropped the price to $10,800. Both prices seemed high so I began a search and of course ask Chatgpt for some help. I found a local company to install the same exact system for $6,900. How do you go from $21,000 to $6,900. Buyer beware there is a reason why they have a 1.6 out of 5 stars. I purchased a Ductless Daiken Mini-Split system for my bonus room in October 2024 from Arturo Acevedo of Raleigh ARS Company. The unit is under a one-year warranty. The airhandler unit is attached to the Stud Structure of the attic leaving the sensor exposed to the heat temperature of the attic. The air handler unit should have been attached to a section of drywall inside the room. Please see attachment A; because the airhandler is improperly installed the unit never reaches the temperature set with the remote control, it continues to run to cool the room. I phoned Mr. Acevedo to make him aware of the problem with controlling the temperature in the room with the remote control. He said he would contact the service repair department and get them to send a technician to troubleshoot the problem. No one contacted me after a week, or maybe two weeks. I reached out with a call to schedule an appointment with an ARS Technician. They sent a technician who had no experience trouble shooting Daiken Mini Split Ductless system. After spending an hour looking at the unit, the technician concluded, he could not diagnose the problem or repair the problem. He attempted to contact tech support but could only leave a voice mail message. Tech support for Daiken never returned his call. He called a supervisor for answers to diagnose the problem but without being on the scene they could only guess what might be wrong. The technician from ARS left stating he would write up what had occurred during his visit and forward it to his supervisor, and someone would contact me to get some kind of resolution. Two weeks later no contact from the ARS company. I reached out again to schedule a technician to come out. They sent the same technician as before (no experience). He again called the Tech Support and got no response from them. He called his supervisor and let me speak to Supervisor Terrance of service repair department. Terrance agreed to send a senior technician out this time to diagnose the unit for problems. He diagnosed that the unit sensor was being activated by the heat in the attic and attributed it to a lack of insulation around the unit exposed to the attic side of the wall. The senior technician stated he would inform his supervisor of his findings from the inspection and troubleshooting of the unit. Department Supervisor Terrance. I called and left a Voicemail Message on his phone, but no contact has been made today. Over three months later, I still have not been contacted by the ARS Service Repair department supervisor to resolve my concerns about this unit thermostat having no control due to the unit not being installed correctly. I would like for the ARS Company to uninstall the unit and reinstall it correctly on the inside of the room to be cooled to prevent the unit from sensing the heat in the attic. After months of trying to get this issue resolved a technician was sent out to install insulation around the rear of the airhandler. I refused the services because the Carpenter Julio stated he cannot resolve the issue as a carpenter; he cannot uninstall the unit and reinstall the unit inside the room. A technician would have to disconnect the unit and reconnect the unit on the inside of the wall. I believe I have been very patient concerning this issue. You have received payment for the unit, and it is under warranty. You should honor your portion of our contract. The unit was installed improperly. The airhandler should be entirely inside the room. I trusted the licensed professional to know how to properly install the unit and it was not installed correctly. I am requesting you remove the current airhandler and replace it with a new unit. Two days later, problem comes back up. Another tech comes out, "Everything is within specs, I ran the diagnostics" LOL. Sir, my home feels like a greenhouse, goodbye. ARS sends another tech out 2 days later...."Your condenser fan needs replacing, there's a bearing issue". He proceeds to tell me that is a $1500 repair LOL. I tell the tech I want to speak to the quality assurance manager before I have any more repairs done. I've tried in VAIN to contact this apparently non-existent person. Three weeks have passed. Also, there is no pricing transparency, no itemizing for parts or labor which is CRAZY. They are pulling prices from their you know what. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS PLACE. My young first time homeowner daughter called the ARS location in Knightdale, NC on 06/24/2025 to fix an inoperable AC unit. Tech came out and said the compressor fan motor and capacitor was "locked up" and needed to be replaced at a cost of $2600. He also said it would be a couple of days to get parts. It was 90 degrees in the house and 94 upstairs. He then sent his salesman to discuss a complete replacement on a 13 year old system. He left knowing her fiance worked from home and the home was very HOT. He charged $116 for the service call and left. I came over while the salesman was there discussing estimates. I walked outside and turned the fan by hand and it started running. The fan motor was NOT locked up. I ran up to the parts house and bought a $17 capacitor and replaced it. It's been running ever since. It took me basically an hour to drive in traffic, pick up part and replace it. During this whole time the salesman finished his pitch and sat in his car on the street for over an hour. Nice work ethic right? I called the company to try and talk to a manager about my experience and I got a call center that said somebody will call me. You can not call the company and talk to a manager. I called the HQ and still nothing. I really don't think there is a quality control manager as they say there is. No callback as of yet. They tried to take advantage of my young daughter just to make a sale for a complete replacement which was not needed and left her in the heat. They don't care about their customers and just push the upsale of a complete replacement. I fixed this system for $17 when they wanted minimum $2600 and days to fix in a major heat wave. I called another company and they said they would do this same repair if needed for $350. I feel the least they can do is refund my daughters $116 for the "lack of service call." Never again!!!! This is the worst company for AC service and I DO NOT RECOMMEND USING THEM! I phoned and asked if I could get my AC units serviced and pay at the end of the month (social security). The rep said, "Oh, yes, we do that!" I continuously rephrased my question that no money needed to be paid on the day the technician comes out. The response: "No money is due. You will receive an invoice for services." I asked about materials, "Do I have to pay the tech ANYTHING AT ALL?" "No. You will be emailed an invoice." I made an appointment. The technician showed up today. For some reason he asked me about the "payment arrangements." I had had no discussion with him before this. I do not know where he got the idea I made payment arrangements unless SOMEONE AT THE OFFICE TOLD HIM THOSE ARRANGEMENTS HAD BEEN MADE! And, I then mentioned to him that the invoice was to come at the end of the month. He phoned the company and he was told, "That never happened. We don't do that." I was beyond being upset. We are elderly disabled people with two additional disabled adult family members in the household and the tech is being told "Nope. Can't do it!"-AFTER I had been told explicitly that they could. We told the technician to leave. I was infuriated and called the company myself. Oh, and by the way, they record their calls so I AM SURE that the call telling me I don't need to pay anything is clearly on there, unless by now this stinking company has removed it. And if they kept the tape of my calls made today, June 15, 2025, I am sure anyone can clearly here me swearing at them for leading me and my family to believe one thing when they had no intention of doing it. I asked for the name and telephone number of the owner. "Can't do it." I asked for a copy of the tape recording of my previous conversation confirming no payment was due. "Can't do it." ARS-HVAC: It is impossible to speak with a person at this company. on phone is ONLY a person who says they can set up a home visit, i.e., appointment, but you cannot talk with a supervisor, manager, or anyone in management. I have left 4 phone requests over a week, for someone to call me about a service, about cost charged, and no one has bothered to return my calls. I have a pre-paid service plan and thus I am upset about how this is managed. You cannot even discuss the cost of an item or service cost. I discussed with the Tech who came to my house but he does not set price/cost of repair. Why cant this company have an ombudsman or consumer relations, or anyone a customer can talk with?I am not a happy customer. Let me start by saying that I wish I went online and read the reviews and bad experiences that customers have had with ARS Rescue Rooter before I purchased a system from them. I purchase a new Air Conditioning System from ARS in July of 2024. Lest than a year old and this Rheem system that they installed has crapped out. Now this NEW system broke down on a Saturday night, so I called them on Sunday morning. I was told that the earliest they can get to me is on Thursday between 12 and 4pm. Well they showed up late, but I was grateful because my ass was burning up. Tech spent 3 hours and still couldn't figure out what was wrong. initially he said that a fuse on the system board was burnt out. He left and came back with fuse and installed it. As soon as the air came on, the fuse blew again. I said sir I'm no HVAC tech but, but if you keep replacing the fuse and every time the air comes on the fuse blows, then there's a short on the board. well 3 hours later and still not working. Said he had to get a more senior tech out to look at it. Senior tech showed up next day and 30 minutes later said to me "Sir there is a short on the system board and it needs to be replaced". I replied to the senior tech, I told your co-worker that yesterday after 3-5 blown fuses. Anyway he took info and said that he will order board. By this time, I've now gone a full week without AC and I'm miserable because I can't sleep because the temps outside is high 90s and Outside is actually cooler that inside my house. On Monday ARS sent me an email that my part was in and they will be by on Tuesday between 12 and 4pm to install. As I am writing this review the current time is Wednesday July 9 at 11:15 Am and the ARS tech still hasn't showed up to install system board that was promised on Tuesday between 12 and 4pm. No phone call, just 1 sorry text message about 2 hours after the scheduled time that they were running behind after several calls and getting the run around. This is one SORRY company. Their customer service is horrible and customer care is none existent. I guess ARS Rescue Rooter doesn't care about retaining customers or customer referrals. Well I can tell you one thing, there's nothing ARS Rescue Rooter can do to keep me as a customer or get me to recommend them to anybody. I'm just sorry that I had to give them any stars at all. Giving companies stars that they didn't earn or deserve really needs to change. read more
