I've used ARS in the past and they installed an electric heat/AC in our upstairs. I've been pleased. Recently my heat went out and they responded in an hour or so. Tech said the burners were bad. The Ignition control board was throwing an error code which I asked about. He said we'd get the burners and go from there. The burners had been on order for over 3 weeks and they informed me it would be another week. I asked for the part number and I was able to get three burners in 3 days. And I installed them myself. They slide into place and only have 4 screws that retain them. Not a skilled installation at all. And nothing critical in the system was touched. They quoted $570 to replace the burners. Oh by the way the burners cost $15 each and it maybe takes 5 minutes to remove and install new ones. After removing the burners I discovered the ignitor ground rod was laying loose from its plate. No spark could be made to ignite the gas. The initial tech never removed a burner to inspect and if he would have he would have discovered the failed ignitor. In other words he'd have gotten the burners and then said "Your flame sensor / ignitor is bad. We'll order one. Would it have been another month? I called ARS and told them I had received my own burners and wanted them to come back out to install an ignitor and see if the control board was problematic. They scheduled a tech. An hour later they called me and said because I had removed the burners and worked on the unit they could no longer send a tech. I explained that I had gotten burners in 3 days and that they had them on order for a month and I had to do something. I suspect they are angry they lost out on $570 easy dollars. There is no concern that my wife and I have been freezing for a month. So here I am running up on sub freezing temps in a day or two and my HVAC company will no longer come to my house because I dared to touch my HVAC unit AT MY HOUSE, THAT I OWN. My wife and I have discussed just getting a new unit. This is only 4 years old and rusted burners probably mean a wet heat exchanger. Couple that with a broken ignitor and possibly a bad ignition control board and I have some trust issues. One thing is for certain. ARS will never do seasonal maintenance for me. Nor will they get my business for a new system should I go that direction. How dare I order OEM burners myself after they cannot get them after a month in the dead of winter. It appears they only care about losing the $570 installation fee for installing 4 screws on 3 burners. The initial responding tech should have removed a burner and inspected further. Poor troubleshooting. And the fact they refuse to now even show up as a winter storm approaches infuriates me. I'll never use ARS again for anything. read more

I used ARS for 1 year and was a member of their pro service plan. ARS proved good at selling me things I didn't need and bad at actually fixing broken hvacs. They don't stand by their work. If you pay them to fix something and its not fixed, you will have to keep paying them to try to fix it. Here is my ARS nightmare: - 2 year-old unit was not blowing cold air. - The first time they came out and said the relay was broken. - They came a week later to fix the relay, and said the blower motor was broken. - They came a week later to fix the blower motor : $600 - Unit still didn't blow cold air. - The came back to take another look - this time, they said the issue was the thermostat and low freon. $500 thermostat + 200 for extra freon. - Unit still was not blowing cold air. - ARS came back out to look, this time they said the problem is the relay (ARGHHH). - A week later ARS came back to replace the relay. ($500) - Unit still didn't blow cold air. - I called them and said I wanted my money back. The representative said management was busy and that she would call me back. - Update: 3 weeks later and still no call back. Conclusion: if you have a lot of money that you don't want and love sleeping in blazing hot rooms -- ARS is your choice. read more

ARS has the worse renewal process. If you don't pay attention they will auto renew without your permission. You can't speak with a representative when you call. They say they will have someone call you back in 24 hours. They suck in the sales and accounting departments. They don't send renewals in the mail or in your email. read more

This is positively the worst experience I've had installing an AC unit. Forst of all they have charged me almost 13K for a 2 bedroom condo. They told me that I qualified via Ally Lending for 20K and that if I needed to do repairs I could use that money but what they didn't mention is that you have to use ARS ONLY to do the repairs. They were supposed to install the unit one day and they came a day early. They installed some loud contraption with the unit and I told them to remove it. The installed another contraption that is less loud but still makes a noise. There is constant miscommunication and workers randomly showing up without notice. Oh, and they gave me a gift card for my 'troubles' but guess what? The card doesn't work. Avoid at all costs. read more

Like everyone else, I wish I would have read the reviews before calling ARS. I tried to install a Nest Thermostat on a Friday night but the unit had no power after I hooked everything up. I reinstalled my old thermostat and still nothing was working. I called ARS and the promised to have someone out in the morning. When the tech arrived Saturday morning, he told me my circuit board was fried and at a minimum it would be a $1,000 repair. A better repair was going to cost $3,000. Then I was told that for the price of those repairs and the age of my unit (16 years) that I should really look into replacing my unit because now the coils were supposedly fried. They sent a salesman out to quote the full replacement cost. I spent 1.5 hours with the salesman and he said the lowest cost to replace would be $10k, but if I wanted to go with a better system it would be $13k. I said that was too much for me to spend right now so he took $1k off the top automatically. I said that was still too expensive so they took another $1k off after calling the main office "for approval". At this point I felt like this was shady so I just tried to get the salesman out of my house. My unit was working completely before I tried to install the Nest so this was weird that I all of a sudden needed a full unit replacement and/or circuit board at a minimum. I called another air company and they said for the size of my house and current prices it would cost $7k max for a full replacement and he promised to come out a few days later to check out my unit. When he came, he replaced a 5 amp fuse that should have cost $300 max with parts and labor. He also changed my air filters as a courtesy while he was at the house and had his ladder available. I am so disappointed in the service I received from ARS. Two people from their company came into my house and lied to my face about what it would take to fix my air conditioner. I felt pressured into completely replacing my HVAC system. I'm thankful I had a reliable company to turn to before I was taken advantage of by ARS. I also texted the salesman after because I was frustrated with the whole situation and let him know that it sucked that I was almost taken for $8.5k by them, and that it was actually a $300 repair that took all of 15 mins by another company. His response was that it would only be temporary and my unit was sure to fail at any time. I am so done with ARS and will not recommend this company to ANYONE. I am waiting on a call from the quality assurance manager to discuss my concerns with how my problem was handled, but it seems ARS gets these complaints all the time and does nothing to fix their predatory practices. read more

I called ARS because I had two leaks in the plumbing in the crawl space beneath my house. They did a very good job (as far as I can tell) fixing the leaks and I have no problem with their work. One of the leaks was streaming and they came promptly. However, I certainly did pay for the service. Their charges were outrageous. I was told later that I could have had the work done by an independent plumber for half the price. I am an 86 year old widow and was not aware of how much it should cost. read more

Price gouging, I called ARS to fix my AC the tech Diognost the problem it was a bad AC Capacitor, the tech said the price to replace the compacitor would be $600 . I asked how much is the Capacitor, he told me the Part was $400 so basically your charging me $400 for a $20.00 part. I paid them the $95.00 service call and sent them on their way. I purchased 2 compactors for under $40.00 and had someone put one in and kept a backup. After having spent over $17k for both AC Units to be replaced, 3 employees told me that I could purchase an ongoing maintenance plan for $20 per month. At my 1-year anniversary when I decided to do just that that's when I was told it's $20 for 1 system and $10 for the 2nd system. That was never the agreement from the very beginning. The salesperson lied at the very onset. Then when the 1-year anniversary maintenance was done the technician told me the same thing, $20 for both systems. Then when I called to start the plan, again, I was told the same thing but never had it in writing. When I followed up for something in writing, after having paid the $20, I was told that THEY WILL NOT HONOR what the previous 3 employees told me and supposedly had already canceled the plan. Negative stars. They sold me a lemon machine for $7000, I say lemon since it has leaked twice in 6 years causing initially $1245 worth of repairs after 2 years and now $2500 4 years later. After calling them we waited a day for them to not show up, they kept saying someone will call you they are behind. at one point a CS told me the one before didn't do something right and then he didn't schedule it. It was 2 days in 89 degree house getting pushed around and lied to about the when they would come. Finally a tech shows up at 7pm Sunday. The tech finds the leak within an hour and then spends 1 hour in his car developing the quote, so around 9pm until he is back in my house. He tells me $2500 so I explain why that is absurd and I ask him to explain and itemize it. He tells me we dont do that, I am not sure and cant tell you for sure. Excuse me- you dont know why you are putting that absurd number in my face and asking me to pay it? How much is the refrigerant? I dont know, How much is your labor cost? I dont know. How much is admin costs? I dont know. You took an HOUR to develop this quote- how do you not know anything? Finally after lots of back and forth and me getting down right exhausted as I am hot tired and havent slept well now in two nights he discounts by $500 via a manager on the phone and I tell him I just need to get this going however, this is not done, I am not satisfied and I will be taking this further. The manager calls me the next day and says Im right, the system shouldnt be doing this to me but all he can do is discount a tiny bit more and he brings the bill to $1675. The next day I am at work (normally i WFH but I had meetings) my husband is home, the repair tech shows up and fixes the system in 1.5 hours and then spends 1.5 hours in his carr developing the quote (I guess). He comes back in and tells my husband that will be $1769, my husband tried to get in touch with me but Im in DND for these meetings. He pays the man. I have now been charged twice to my account, once for the initial discounted $2200 and now $1769. I have attempted to get this corrected now for 2 days and they have despite telling me it would be fixed not fixed it, I have talked to countless agents. Here is my experience dealing with ARS. I would give the zero stars if I could. We had ARS came out after we had a lightning strike that cause our zone heating to fail. The technician told us that zone heating motherboard was shot and it needed to be replaced. When they came back they told us our whole zone heating was old and they did not have a motherboard so we had to replace the whole zone heating unit. Not knowing anything better we went ahead with this. We probably should have gotten a second opinion but we had been living without a heat pump for a week and just wanted it fixed. It was installed and we submitted our insurance claim. The insurance company wanted more detail on why the bill was so much almost $5000. They contacted ARS and ARS never responded. They finally told us that nothing was covered since they could not get information from ARS. So I got involved. I emailed and never heard back. I called every week and left an URGENT message to have a service person call me back about help with an insurance claim. I NEVER got a call back. I called the account person that I had a number for and left a message and never heard back. I emailed the local general manager and never heard back. This went on for 2 months and I finally drove 20 mins. to the Raleigh office and asked to meet with a service manager. They got someone to talk to me and I left all the invoices and information that the insurance company asked for and he said he'd call back in a day. When a week went by I called and left a message asking for a return call. He finally called back the second time I left a message and told me there is nothing he could do about this. The bottom line is this is a big company and they DON'T care about you. I will never do business with them again because it took me 2.5 months to be told they weren't going spend 10 mins. to write to the insurance company explaining the why I need my zone heating fixed. This is one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. The bottom line is if you do business with a big company like ARS don't expect much. Worst experience ever with a contracting company. I contacted ARS through Lowe's for an HVAC repair, and the technician did nothing but look at the unit without testing anything. He then quoted me $2,000 for a new blower and suggested I get a completely new HVAC system through them. I called for a technician, not a salesman. I reached out to ARS multiple times for a second opinion, but they ended up ghosting me. I eventually got a second opinion from a different company, which fixed my HVAC for $600, with none of the BS that ARS put me through. Avoid this company at all costs. read more

I have a leak in my HVAC system. This system is about 1.5 years old. I called ARS 'cause it's a new house (1.5 years old) and they were the ones the builder used to install the HVAC. They came out, spent about 2 hours checking it out, called a supervisor 'cause they said it would covered under warranty by the department who installed the HVAC. That was 2 weeks ago and my HVAC is still leaking. Basically, I'm emptying the pot I have under it at least twice a day. The 4th phone call to them to see what was going on, what part am I waiting on, etc and still no one has contacted me to give any information on my situation. And as customer care has told me: they don't know what part I'm waiting on because "we're only customer care and we can't see that information." Anyway, I think I've used them in the past and they've been a bit pricey, but not bad. This, however, indicates that ARS departments aren't talking to each other and can't be bothered to at least communicate with me. read more

ARS installed a brand new unit in my new construction home in 2019. I am writing this review in November of 2020 and we have had nothing but problems ever since. In a period of one year, ARS has been to my home 5 times and coming back tomorrow, to inspect several different issues. Every season so far, where we've changed the system from heat to cool, or cool to heat, there is a problem. -It started in December of 2019, when we turned on the heat for the first time. For the whole month of December, without us realizing (because there is no way to know from the thermostat) the system was running on emergency heat only and the regular heat was not working. At the end of the month, when I got my electric bill, it was $600. ARS came out and said the thermostat was not communicating with the outside unit properly. -In January, the problem was still there. Another $500. bill from my electric company. ARS comes back and this time tells me we have a bad thermostat and it's the manufacturer's fault because they made a new version. This seemed to fix the problem. The manager by the name of Shay Holloway, whom I was in contact with throughout this process asked me by email, not to write a bad review due to the immediate issues we've experienced with the brand new unit installed by ARS. -Summer of 2020 came around and it was time to turn on the COOL air. We turned on our system on cool for the first time and stepped out of the house. When we came back in, the temperature in my house was above 90 degrees. The cool was completely not working. Again, they came to my home and told me IT'S ANOTHER BAD THERMOSTAT. Manager Mike Honeycutt from Raleigh, was present as well and checked my unit for other defaults and found NONE. -(CURRENT SITUATION STILL NOT RESOLVED) November of 2020 is here, and it's time to turn on the heat in my home. I turned on the heat and it worked. FOR LESS THAN A WEEK. All of a sudden, as the heat is on, the temperature in my house is dropping. AGAIN, the amount of energy being used to due to the heat not working properly has increased to a very high level. I turned off the unit as soon as I saw something was wrong. After a tech came to our home and spending two hours trying to figure out what is happening, he told us that the pressures are "way off" and that he suspects there is a blockage somewhere. After investigating that, he came back and said he suspects it's a bigger problem and they will have to replace something in the attic which is a 3 to 4 hour job and they have to order a part. He said someone will be in contact with you tomorrow. -TODAY 11/5/20 - I called ARS AT 8:30 am. The lady I spoke to on the phone said they've ordered the piece and should be there to install in tomorrow and no one needs to be home, because they will work on the outside. Completely different information than what I got yesterday. The tech said the piece in the attic needs to be changed. I asked to speak with manager, Mike Honeycutt. He goes on to say that they want to check the outside first and look for blockages and replace a part. This is what the technician checked for yesterday when he was at my house for two hours. None of this is making sense. ARS is expected to come back to my home tomorrow and I WILL give an update on this review. I DO NOT feel confident in the installation of my unit. I DO NOT feel confident in the service I received every time they came to my home. I DO NOT feel confident that their diagnosis is ever correct. I DO NOT feel confident that they will actually fix my problem tomorrow. I DO NOT feel confident that next season when I change the temperature from Heat to cool again that my unit will not have issues. My experience started with a very nice sales appt that continued to timely and professional installation and then it all took a turn. We did it through Home Depot and they had a $1000 rebate promotion at the time. I was told nothing needed to be done on our end and that it would take 6-8 weeks to receive. Around week 6 I started messaging the sales rep about the status of the rebate and kept being told he had contacted the permanent people and they would be contacting me back, I called daily for almost a week and left message that no one returned. I eventually received a call back saying this was the first they had heard about it and they would be investigating and calling me back about the status. The rebate was never filed with Home Depot and no follow up had been done. We were now at the end of week 8 with no rebate in sight. Then after we had been told it would be $1000, apparently the paperwork that my husband signed a day after our initial sales appt had $750. I was very upset at the fact that everyone I spoke to said customer satisfaction and keeping their word is their main priority so I was clear that if the rebate wasn't for $1000 they could come and get the unit just on principle. They agreed to do the $1000 rebate. I asked how long since we were already way behind schedule to receive it and was told 5-10 business days. We are on business day 11, 11 weeks post installation and have not received the check. I have contacted the office since Monday and left messages only to hear back today, after asking to speak to the sales manager. I was told they submitted paperwork to your corporate office in TN on July 29th (later than it should have been) and are waiting to hear back from corporate about the status. I contacted corporate myself and after waiting about 30min on the phone I was told all they can see is the rebate shows "processing" and they will be calling me back tomorrow since they need to run this by the local office that I worked with. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB and would caution anyone looking to use their services if you're taking promotional rebates into account when budgeting for a new unit install. read more

Our blower fan was vibrating very bad so we called ARS . Tech came out and confirmed that the blower fan was bad . He sent in the parts order request and said that a tech would be out to install the part when they arrived . He charged his diagnostic fee and we received the emailed bill . Next morning a tech came out to install the blower fan . Informed us that we should replace the entire unit as it was 5 years old ( works great ) . We paid him the amount he showed us on his iPad and he informed us that we would get an emailed detail billing . We received the email and noticed that another diagnostic charge was added so we call ARS . The lady acknowledged the error and said a refund would be applied to the card used . Well , here it is over 30 days later and no refund . We have tried calling back to ARS and get a run around as their is no manager or customer service manager available to talk to . Gave us a Quality Assurance Manager number but that goes directly to voice mail as " unavailable "! That customer service that they " strive " to perform is just an added statement by a robo agent. After several attempts to get this rectified, I find that my only option is to present the communications ( calls and emails ) to the NC Attorney Generals office for their review . Maybe along with some of the reviews of overcharging ( $40 capacitor being billed as $400 ) will alert the Attorney General to perform a full scup's review of business practices for this company! read more

No call ever came saying the tech would be late but the scheduling representative told me there would be no service fee and I would only be charged for parts and labor. ARS sent 2 different techs and finally a 3rd tech with the manger to our home within a 30 day period and they could not resolve our heating problem. The final visit with the manager and a tech who said they had 60 years experience between them were very nice but said our unit, which we had for 20+ years must be the wrong size for our house. They didnpt know what was wrong but couldn't fix it. Said we needed a new system and they would be glad to send one of their sales reps out to size up the house for us......this was after we were without heat for 30 days and our home was and average of 60 degrees every day. Needless to say we were not happy. We had them replace parts (under waranty) but paid for labor paid for a diagnostic which was a waste of time and money still no working heat system...after investing close to $1,000. The manager agreed to refund $304.....still not heat. We called Warner Bros in Vass, NC Grant came out found the problem ordered parts on a Monday and we had heat by Thursday.....this was about a month ago and all is well. ARS installed my current HVAC system in January 2022. They recently performed a repair. I have no complaint about the actual repair. But I paid about $300 for a part that (I thought) should be under warranty. I contacted the company the next day to request a possible refund. Thus began weeks of extremely frustrating attempts to get this matter resolved. All my calls (to various phone numbers) were answered by the national call center. These agents were professional, friendly and empathetic. But all they could do was promise to have "someone"(?) call me back to try to resolve the matter. I made 10 calls over 3 weeks, stating my case more urgently each time, and several agents said things like "gosh, I can see that you've called several times ... I don't know why no one has called you... I'll send an urgent message... I'll mark it to be expedited..." etc. I NEVER received a call or email (even though every agent confirmed my contact info). I finally DROVE 30 minutes to the ARS office in Raleigh, where they finally told me "nope, that part isn't covered under the warranty". Ok. Fine. But I still believe the company owes me a MAJOR apology, if not some compensation for their TERRIBLE customer service! read more

This visit was for a clogged toilet. There were two plumbers who showed up, and they cleared the stoppage using an Auger or Toilet Plunger (as stated on the invoice). This task was done in less than 10 minutes. The charge was $328.84. That is exorbitant. I will never use this company again, and I suggest that no one else should use this service. 0 stars. I have a main drain clog with toilet water backing up into my house. I called last night and was told that I had been put on standby for a plumber tonight. Thst was at 8:45pm. It's now 3am and no one has called. So I called just to find out that they put an appointment in instead of putting me on standby. I only have one bathroom in my house!!! I have been up all night waiting for a plumber to call me because I was told they would and now I'm being told I have to wait an additional 6 to 10 hours!!! The customer service is trash. They don't care that this is an emergency situation at all and they certainly don't care that I've been up all night waiting for a call at their request. Sorry doesn't cut it here. This is unacceptable. UPDATE: I called the emergency line because toilet were was backing up into ALL OF MY DRAINS the entire night. They said they couldn't help me. So what is the point of the emergency line? I called again this morning and the agent switched my appointment to 12 to 5 even though I told her I didn't want her to. The dispatcher finally calls me after I had called multiple times. I had to threaten to sue for property damage for them to finally treat it like am emergency. That doesn't mean they're sending a plumber now, it means I'm "next." No one at this company cares. I have been jerked around all night long by these people. I just need the main drain unclogged. I can't use my one and only bathroom or any water in my home and I have been up all night long because of them. It's not ok to treat people like that. UpDATE; after the plumber came out the line backed up again. I called them and they said they put me on standby last night. No one came our or called me, which is clearly just normal for them. I called again this morning and had to set an appointment. The agent told me they forgot to call me. It just gets more and more ridiculous. Paid $116 diagnosis fee for the service agent to look at our water heater and first tell us it is an issue within our shower and then quote us $7k to replace the unit. Did not even try to diagnose any issue. We just cancelled our ongoing service membership. Good service would have been to ask us the age and model of our unit before charging us for someone to just give us a quote. read more

Still waiting for them to fix my unit that there worker that they fired Diamante shorted out my system and I spoke to shay and she does not want to make it right.. He broke both of my systems but the partially fixed one and will not fix what he broke they sent two other workers and one fixed some parts in one system but the other system was shorted out by him working on it in the rain and broke my fan and compressor.. Now Shay does not call because she said the fan works as long as I use is on emergency switch.. .. They are terrible.. read more

Wow I wish I checked yelp before calling them. For some reason they have 5 stars on Google. Must have paid someone for that! Terrible bait and switch here. Called them and asked for a plumbing installation quote. They said they'd be happy to come by for a free estimate but couldn't give a quote without coming by. They said it would be free to come by. I notify the tenant and they call me saying they'll be there in 30 minutes. Suddenly as were driving there I get a call saying it's $100. I am floored. $100 to tell me what the cost would be. It's $125 to file with my warranty so obviously I would not do that. I was in complete shock that we notified the tenant and drove out there to find out that they tried to charge us $100 for a free estimate. read more

I am absolutely beside myself and the unprofessionalism and unethical behavior of this company. Five years ago we spend $15,000 on a new system. We get it serviced and take excellent care of it. We were called in January by ARS to do their service check. I wish we would have said no... Not a week later, our unit didn't work. We called them to see what was wrong and were told we needed a new evaporator coil and two circuit boards costing $1,600. Something didn't feel right when the technician told me there is nothing you can do to prevent a leak and they can last two years or twelve years. "It's just luck" he said. I got a second opinion from a long time technician of a friend. He couldn't find a leak anywhere. Our coils look great. Nothing wrong with the boards. He did mention that our Freon was on empty. I suspect they emptied it. $325 and we are good to go. Except it's $325 I shouldn't have had to spend since there was nothing wrong with our system to begin with. I don't know if their technicians have sales goals or what, but they will never step foot on my property again. I am so disappointed in how we have been treated and lied to. I hope they do something to try and rectify these actions. read more

I have been trying to reach someone for days to discuss my repair issue and the cost. They call to come for the repair but has yet to have anyone call me back about the money. This was suppose to be covered under warranty. If you call there will continue to be people putting messages into the system and will not allow you to talk to anyone. It does not matter what number you have it is routed to a person that can do nothing for you. read more

The service I got on the initial day of service was fine. The tech was super nice. I paid $2506 and was told I would owe nothing when they come back and days later I owed $2100 more.( diagnostic, Freon and coil was over ( $4600 ). I ask for a refund for charge of coil and was told I would get one for $2000 plus and it's been 5 days and I've not seen a refund. Not dissatisfied with tech but I am with the company. read more

I have had prior history with this company. The technician (Jamie) came to our house and stated the capacitior is gone. It's covered under warranty and he ordered the part. Once the technician left, we heard nothing from the company. Not what day it would be in; when they would be back out to the house to replace the part. I had to call customer service numerous times; they are some of the most unpleasant and very rude people. No one could give me any answers, I kept getting the runaround. I had to call corporate just to get someone to call me back. Here we are going on the 6th day, no AC and haven't seen a technician. Also my son has asthma and we cannot be in the house. we have had the worst experience with ARS. We purchased a new HVAC system for 7000. Two years later it required a 2000 part that was not covered under warrenty. We then had to replace the thermastat on the wall, and finally today had to replace the switch on the actual unit. Nothing covered. I don't expect it to last forever, but you would think within a few years one shouldn't have to get all of this fixed and never once was there any consideration given for the age of the unit.
