ARS/Rescue Rooter pricing is set for unsuspecting and uninformed customers. I had a simple drain pipe cleaning from bathroom sink. It needed a simple snaking. Their website advertised about $60. I did not believe it, but was prepared to pay $120 for the 15 minute job, plus the travel time. They gave me an invoice for $344!! I told the plumber that I know what it takes and that it is a 15 minute job. He came up with bogus excuses as to why this was a hard job. I showed him the door, called another plumber (Affordable Plumbing). They said upfront that the cost is $100 for for the first hour (or hour and half). They did it in less than 15 minutes. Do Not go with this business. They are terrible. 1. I called a Lil after 4pm to get a same day service. Was initially told 60-90 minutes. 2. I called them back to check wait status @1.5 hours after. They were disorganized, no tech follow up as told and No follow up. 3. No tech call, No scheduler follow-up as promised, Nothing. So I call back at 6:30pm. They say sorry, don't know what's going on, ect. They proceed to say we'll have the tech there No later than 7:30pm because he is coming from L.A., WTH! L.A.?! 4. Final call was after hours service calling me after 8pm. Telling me tech was now coming out at 9:30. So F'N unprofessional. The guy finally shows up and writes up paperwork -without even checking out drain. Hands me estimate of $298! I was instantly pissed and appalled. We only had 1 drain clogged in kitchen, oil. On 11/13/17 a gentleman arrived to work on the plumbing at our property. He advised us that his manager would be arriving to do a service inspection on him. As I was inside I heard a thump. I walked out to see the two men passing my vehicle and one carrying a long tool in hand. I decide to check my cameras. Sure enough- one of the men had swiped the back of my bumper with his tool. Kept walking, never checked to see if any damage was done, or notify me. I went over to my vehicle only to notice a huge scratch. I approached the man and told him I'd appreciate if he was more respectful of my home and vehicle and his response was "my bad". To top it off, he was the manager doing the service inspection. Extremely unreliable. Should have seen their review beforehand. Made an appointment mid day for a clogged toilet and they told me that they will be at my place in a couple of hours. Kept waiting for them but they didn't show. They kept calling every hour (after the window) said that they are gonna be late. Final call at 6:20 pm to tell me that they need to re-schedule. Really ? The plumber was great. Sales guy told me I could have 12 mo's same as cash for a 10k project. Turned out this is farmed out to some 3rd party vendor who first said that 12 mos same as cash doesn't exist and contractors just say that, then sent an incorrect e-contract and the ARS office seemed to wash their hands of it telling me to call their vendor with a 1/2 hour hold time for them. Had to demand a manager several times to eventually straighten out. Not happy with the paperwork side of things, for 10k I would expect better customer service since I thought I was dealing with a reputable company. And they seem to be OK on the plumbing side but if I use them again I'll just put on a zero % credit card rather than waste a bunch of my time with an office girl who was uncaring and unhelpful. read more

Scammers. Don't use them. They run a commercial for $69 drain cleaning but charged $$390. The bill had no detail about what was done. I'm the owner and my tenant approved the work so I got the invoice a few days later. The company took multiple days to get back to me as to what work was actually done and their justification for the outlandish pricing. Run from this company!!! read more

We had a clogged kitchen drain. The plumber arrived 1.5 hours after the 2 hour window promised, and gave an estimate to unclog the drain that we felt was extremely high. We then called Affordable Drain Service, a company specializing in clogged drains. They were out within an hour, had the job done in 30 minutes, and charged 1/3 of ARS's estimate. read more

We had another plumber come to our house 2 times. This plumber was sent by our home warranty company. They were unable to unclog our laundry drain, after the second time they called it quits. I called ARS and they sent Gabe and Jose the next day. Jose brought out a camera and they went to work. I would not even be able to express how professional the process worked. Gabe went out of his way to explain what we were looking at as the camera traveled through our drain pipes. After he got the laundry drain fixed he moved his equipment and cleaned the kitchen drain. Now my wife is happy and we have a 1 year warranty if the drains get clogged again. Both Gabe and Jose gave me their business cards and let me know if there are any problems that we can give them a call to their phones, that is very value added service and gives us peace of mind. Called to make an appointment, which was confirmed for this morning. Waited at home for hours for them to show up, but no phone call, no show. I called to find out and an extremely rude lady told me that she could give me no timeframe as to when they would be available. WARNING. You CANNOT rely on this company! Call anyone else. I have never written a bad review on Yelp, or anywhere for that matter, however my experience with ARS was utterly disappointing and I am being kind. My kitchen sink was clogged and needed a simple snake job. We have four young children in my home and could not get dinner prepared without a sink. I called ARS, midday yesterday and they assured me someone would come to my house and fix the issue in a timely manner. No call, no show for most of the day. I called them again the same evening, and again I was assured someone would be here. At 10pm an ARS truck pulled into my driveway, he did not call just showed up. I greeted the technician and asked him to come back this morning instead because it was too late and my kids were in bed sleeping. He agreed to come this morning between 8am - 10am. Again, no call no show. I called and they told me the technician made the appointment for 4pm - 6pm instead of the agreed appointment time. I was assured for a third time that someone would be here between 12pm - 1pm. I just called at 2:15pm and they told me the plumber tried to call me but there was no answer so he didn't show. (No one called me!) I was then told that I would have to wait an additional 90 minutes to see if someone would be available. Needless to say I cancelled my appointment and called another company. ARS may be a very busy company, but they will be one customer less busy from now on! Apparently, the person I spoke with at the second company quit their job at ARS and transferred because quality assurance is obviously not a top priority. read more

SMH.....Let's start with the horrible scheduling/scheduler customer service. I called the on Fri for my business to come out and look at a leaky faucet in the bathroom. I talked with the person who answered the phone, answering a multitude of questions before finally getting to the scheduling part. Since our business hours are 9:00-5:00 7 days a week, I told her anytime between those hours would be great. She gave me an appt for Monday between the hours of 10:00-12:00 which works for me. She said they would call when they are about 30 mins from arrival. Monday comes around and they never show up . I received multiple calls saying they were coming. We're coming, we're on our way, we're coming, and then finally we have no one in the area that can come to your business. Enough! I said, if you can't come today before 5:00pm don't bother trying to come another day. I understand things happen or come up but his is absolutely a horrible way to conduct business. I'm just glad it wasn't at home and I had taken time off work to wait around for this inconsiderate company. Never again will I use or recommend. read more

I might have been better off calling a smaller company **with less overhead** for this task of replacing a single and easily accessible hose bib. Just one hose bib, nothing else. Cost me $250 for 10 less than minutes of work to replace a 10-15 dollar part. A hose bib. We contracted with ARS through Lowes for installation of a new water heater. They encouraged us to add an instant heat pump for $1,000. Their installers didn't know how to find the correct faucet to act as the T point so it doesn't actually work. They keep saying they are going to fix it but don't follow up and don't return calls. I will never use ARS Rescue Rooter's services again (after 6 years as a loyal customer). I paid them to replace my garbage disposal in late July 2020. 1 year and 4 months later, this garbage disposal makes a very weak motor sound and then turns off after a couple seconds-- which caused my kitchen drain to clog. According to Friday (the name of the unprofessional representative who discussed this issue with me), it's "past the warranty period" and they simply don't care that they are losing my business for potentially decades to come. How does a place like this stay in business? The tech who originally installed this new garbage disposal is the same one who showed up today-- backing away from my house while I was still on hold with Friday. I waited 4 days for this appointment after my original time was rescheduled (and the unprofessional tech showed up almost 40 minutes late outside of the arrival window without contacting me beforehand), but ARS Rescue Rooter doesn't care. I hope they enjoy yet another bad review-- 2 1/2 stars overall, how impressive! By the way, I called another plumber who fixed this problem for me SAME DAY for LITERALLY HALF the price quoted by ARS Rescue Rooter. Called this business for an after hour service for a bad leak in our bathroom. I was informed that they did not have a technician available until 8:00am in the morning. Then I was asked if I wanted to make a reservation for the 8:00am time slot. Since we preferred service right away, I declined the appointment and intended to phone other companies. However representative informed me that a reservation for the 8:00am slot is not a commitment, but more of a placeholder. I was also told that they would not send a plumber out until they phone me prior to the reservation and I unequivocally commit to have a plumber come to my residence. However, none of these happened. I did receive a call, however I was not available to answer, so they left a message that a technician was on the way! What! After receiving the voicemail, I immediately phone the company to cancel the service since I was able to hire someone during the night. I then was informed by the person answering the call that they already knew as the technician arrived to my home, was rudely greeted at the door and then had the door slammed on his face. This was an outright LIE! I have video and audio from my security cameras of the complete encounter with the technician and my son. There was no rudeness, and no slamming of the door. Why lie about the reservation process and lie about how your tech was treated. My son was nothing but polite and cordial. If this is how this business treats potential customers, then you do not deserve my business. Please beware! read more

Be ready to waste a whole day waiting for your technician. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because the receptionist did call twice to tell me she still didn't have a technician for me and just to keep waiting. I had an appointment for two months to get my water heater flushed. The time window was 12-2. I explained that the condo is a rental and I live almost an hour away. As a courtesy to the technician, I arrived in town at 11 so he would not have to wait for me. After 2pm past (and with a cranky toddler in tow), I called to see when my technician would arrive. I was told that there are not any available technicians. What a waste of a day! The receptionist did not even offer any type of recovery to try to keep my business. I am only giving 3 stars because problem was not solved, my air conditioner was leaking and Justin came and vacuumed and cleaned drain, he was very professional and hard working gentleman, he tried everything and since the original AC was 10 yrs old and we had huge water damage, he cold not find out where the water is still leaking. Watch your checkbook! This company charged whopping $1,250 for a common no fancy brand-name toilet installation. There weren't any stairs to climb, no tight turns, no barking dogs. Gee! What else could they possibly consider an extra charge for? $160 of those funds went for the new seat. Was it heated? No! Simply a cheap piece of plastic thrown on so you don't fall into the bowl. When you look this company up in the BBB it shows an A+ rating. Why? How much would have spend with a local company under one simple name? More than half that cost! We could have gotten a Toto for that! In life there are three trustworthy people you need to count on when trouble arises: a good lawyer, a good mechanic, and a good plumber. I found my good plumber today, unfortunately, it is not ARS / Rescue Rooter. And this is why. My HOA has required several units to replace their shower valve and cartridge to cure a problem of crossover (i.e. hot water going into one unit to the detriment of another unit). I'm not a plumber so I don't fully understand the concept, but that's how it was explained to me. ARS was the hand-selected plumber by my HOA. They provided a "free inspection." Without removing my valve or investigating in much detail, they concluded that I needed a new valve and cartridge (without which I would be heavily fined by my HOA). The "discounted" cost they gave me would be somewhere around $760+. A neighbor in my complex instead recommended Plumbing Tree to me, saying they had performed the exact same work for $250. So I hired Plumbing Tree to investigate. The gentleman who performed the work found the valve was fine (something that could be determined just by looking at it apparently, as a plumber at home depot concluded the same just by looking at a photo). I did need a cartridge replaced (something that no plumber could determine without removing the valve and looking inside). The final cost--$142. A difference of over $600. I believe that when a company does good service, you should commend them. Yelp should not just be a place where people post negative reviews for the sake of being negative. But when a business falls short, you should let them know your displeasure in the hopes that others don't share my experience. And, perhaps, that the company learns something from this experience and strives to be better. With that in mind, I give ARS 1 star, but would give zero if I could. read more

They had an online special for $77 to fix drainage issues so I called them because my dishwasher was not draining and explained the problem over the phone in depth. When the guy arrived, I was told it was not a drain issue and so he needed to take the dishwasher out of the unit by the sink to find the problem. For this I was told it would be $267. I was waiting at home all day for him and just wanted to get it fixed, so I agreed. He couldn't find the problem and told me I need to call someone else and put my dishwasher back in crooked. After a large complaint I was given my money back, but the problem is still not fixed and now I need to bring in someone else. We had a plumbing problem that we called out ARS back on 6/18. The plumber came looked at the problem and said he can not do anything about it because it was a drain line off the dish washer. He tried to get us to replace the water valves under the sink but I said no. So we went to Home depot and bought a new dishwasher with install. They came and put the new dishwasher in and in doing so stripped the treads on the hot water valve. They put in a new one which leaked after the install. So I called ARS again they said they would come between 4pm and 8pm. At around 8pm I called and the plumber was still at a earlier job and it could take 2 more hours to arrive. Our water to our home was been off the whole time by the way. ARS said they would have someone out first thing in the morning. Having to work I asked if they would call me when he arrives and please only replace the leaking valve. So long story short no phone call and we have two new valve. The plumber took advantage of a 85 year old women with dementia. That's called senior abuse! I ask more than once to replace just the one valve. Same plumber came out from the first visit. He new I didn't want or need both valves replaced. I will never use them again and advise you to do the same! read more

I was astounded by the plumbing rates that ARS charges, nearly twice that of any other plumber we've used. Over the past decade, we have managed multiple rental properties throughout the San Diego area. I have included a detailed description of the work and a scanned image of their invoice, so the facts are clearly stated with this review. I believe that ARS takes advantage of situations (such as ours) where the client has little choice but to accept their "on-site proposal" on the day of the scheduled work (they refused to provide a quote or hourly rate by phone). In our case, a building water shut-down (involving multiple units) had been scheduled in advance and pre-arranged with the management company and other occupants in the building. At a bathroom vanity/sink, ARS provided and installed (2) new shut-off valves and (2) new steel water flex lines (supply lines). They also installed (1) owner-provided faucet at this same lavatory (bathroom sink). The total bill (after we negotiated a 10% discount) came to $540. Note the valves and supply lines they provided would cost no more than $75 retail, and the plumber was there from 11:30 am to 1:20 pm (less than 2 hours, which included his time to evaluate the job and provide an estimate). Even with a 25% mark-up above retail on materials (making the materials $90), their remaining labor charge ($540-90 = $450) came out to just under $250 per hour (for less than 2 hours of labor). As a comparison, we typically use Bill Howe Plumbing who charges $150 per hour. Bill Howe is certainly not the smallest or cheapest plumbing company around, but they are most definitely reliable, honest and upfront about their rates. We contacted ARS to make sure that the "flat fees" they charged us were not made in error. Tonya with ARS assured us that these are in fact their "book rates" for that specific work, confirming that no billing errors occurred. As the executor of the estate where this plumbing work took place, I am embarrassed to have to report the cost of these repairs to the other parties to whom I am accountable. ARS does not provide service based on hourly rates, but rather proposes a "flat fee" for a given repair after arrival on-site. We will not be making that mistake again, and will be sure to report our experience to the management company (HOA) that referred us to ARS. read more

I am greatful they choose me for the give away but did not expect this out come. One of the techs said directly that the services I received I should be glade it was no cost to me and appreciate to look past the small details left unfinished.
