My carb and fat intake levels reach gargantuan levels as temperatures begin to drop. Not only do I crave large amounts of pasta and grains, it is the one time I begin to eat obnoxious amounts of pizza - hot, cold, good or bad. I don't care. I crave the fat, the salt, and the canvas of bread it all rests on. So it's no surprise that I've already tried all the spots within a mile radius and know what I would expect from each one. Arsenal Pizza became my go-to spot for a different reason than just the food. They serve decent pizza; nothing mind blowing or out of this world. The price is decent and the fire times just like any other place. It is built to order like almost everyone else and the service is as simple and straightforward as it can be. It usually is empty when I'm there with a few trickling in to pick up phone orders or grabbing a slice or two before heading back out. On top of that, I have no mobile signal in there...(blah, blah, yippie-di-blah). Somehow, I've actually fallen in love with this place because of the lady who works there. I see her as the epitome of hard work with long hours alone and feeding the community that comes in to this neighborhood joint. It doesn't matter how tired she is (or looks), she does it well and with purpose. I've never seen her smile until the one time I said, "my favorite lady!" and she just said, "same pizza?" Whaaaat? She actually remembered me but never showed any indication of it? It was a sweet moment to me that a woman with stoically conservative mannerisms showed any sign of affection to a customer. I've been back many time since and each time, this personal bias has only made me appreciate even more the taste of my go-to pizza: veggie lovers pizza, add sausage, add meatball. This might be my favorite pizza in town! They use the tastiest pepperoni, the pizza is always great and the guys who run the place are super friendly. I work around the corner from them but I have only tried their pizza since it's so good, but I wouldn't hesitate to try anything else! read more

WARNING: I apologize in advance the explicit nature of this review. Be warned, I will be describing sexist/objectionable behavior. In general, their pizza is yummy and they've been a friendly place. But this happened today and I have to say it turned me off as a customer completely. I was waiting in front of two other customers who were obviously coworkers (they were wearing the same uniform). When they started paying, one made a joke of "this money is from the best stripper in town" (or something like that). The cashier smiled, took the money, smelled it, and said "yeah I can tell". Then they just kept going, talking about Cinnamon the stripper and laughing. Even the 2nd guy behind the counter that makes the pizzas and food came forward and said something in poor taste. I just couldn't. I told them all this is disgusting and left. While you can't control your customers, you can control yourselves. I get jokes, but this just turned my stomach. There are plenty of pics of kids and women on the walls, I'm SURE if one of them were there, they wouldn't have said this. I don't know why they assumed it's ok to act like this period, nevermind when other (adult male) customers are in the shop. They should be ashamed of themselves. read more

I would categorize their ingredients as decidedly low quality. The cheese was kind of like white American cheese--not the best; the sauce was kind of watery--also not what I would expect from a place that has "pizza" in their name. I ordered the "Arsenal Special" pizza, it was edible, but I would never eat it again. Maybe I should have gone with a sandwich, because it seemed like most people were going that route. This is my go-to place for lunch. I have gotten everything from pizza to salads to subs, and it is all good!! The pizza is made from scratch, the cold-cuts always fresh, and the salad always crisp. They also have your typical side orders (chicken fingers, buffalo fingers, fries, onion rings etc). And, the owner is always there to take your order and is very very friendly which goes a long way for me. I usually order ahead so it is ready when I get there. Which brings me to my last point...The reasons I'm giving it four stars is because orders can take awhile if you order in person, especially around the 11:30 to 1:00 lunch window, and there is a 50 cent charge for credit or debit. I live nearby in Watertown and like to try all the local spots vs. standards like Dominos/Papa Ginos/NYAJ/etc. I tried this place the other night with a friend over in preparation of watching Game of Thrones. I give it overall a B+/A-. The service was a bit slow but there was only one woman working there around 8PM at night, so that was to be expected. No there's no flashy TVs or digital menus, but it's your nice standard small town pizza shop with all the standard salads, subs, pizzas and options. Wasn't crazy busy and the food was exactly what we were hoping for. The crust was a little flaky, but the cheese to sauce ratio was great and we'd be back in the future for sure when we're looking for some standard greek pizza. Fan! read more

I work nearby, so I definitely have fond thoughts of the ease and convenience of this icon down the block, but it's everything you could want in a neighborhood pizza place. The staff are always friendly and patient, even with large 10+ pizza orders. We've never had trouble placing large orders even on the day of. Arsenal Pizza never fails. Aside from your classics, there's specials and cult favs like Grecian and Hawaiian pies. I especially like the option of the two-way, three-way etc pizzas where you can essentially design-your-own. First and for most the company I work for and myself began our new residency here very recently and are open to try out local business' to get familiar with what we have to work with for Lunch/Dinner. I called ahead to pick up some subs and ordered myself a grilled chicken sub with lettuce and mayo, something simple and got attitude immediately. Half way through the sub I bite into something solid and when I searched inside, I found what looks like part of a wishbone inside the chicken. I go back to Arsenal Pizza to let them know that I just bit into a bone they had served to a paying customer in the most polite way possible. All staff inside stare at me for several seconds and 1 man begins to say "well, that is normal"......that is normal?!!! Absolutely not, never in my life have I ever eaten a chicken sub, sandwich, etc. and find a bone inside, let alone bite right into it. I mention to them that this is not safe for me or even children to eat, that this can be a problem. Same man and another woman continue to mention that it is normal and "It happens", also try to explain to me how "Chicken wings" have bones. I clearly ordered a Grilled Chicken sub and not chicken wings where I would expect bones inside. To finish this off, as this conversation was going on, the man walked away from me and started to do other things, completely blew my issue and concerns off. This place lost my business right away and will lose more from my company, I will be informing everyone on this situation and how terrible Arsenal Pizza was. read more

ahh, thank god this place exists. there's no better escape from panera, which embodies everything i hate all at once, than a local pizza/sub shop. friendly service, good food, and great prices. i had an big eggplant parm grinder for less than $6, and contemplated the 2 cheese slices + bottle of soda deal for just under $5. they've also got apps, salads, and pastas. but i think the real treats have gotta be their pizzas and calzones. once i saw them come out of the oven i knew i would have to come back to try both (luckily, i work very close by). the pizza looked to be deep dish (my fave!) and average about $7 - a steal! plus, there are lots of veggie options, including artichokes :) one of my coworkers referred to this place as a dime-a-dozen, but imho, classic favorites gotta be good to get to be classics in the first place! read more

Arsenal Pizza in Watertown puts most of the pizza joints in Allston-Brighton to shame. It's just up the street and around the corner from the Watertown Mall, the Arsenal Mall, and the Watertown Arsenal complex. Check it out if you're in the neighborhood and want something a bit more authentic than Panera or Friendly's. This small place just off Arsenal Street gets the good rating for everything but it's namesake. I'll start with the bad - the pizza. Sorry, but it is just not good. It is very lunch in elementary school only 10 times more greasy. Honestly, there are many microwaveable options that surpass this. HOWEVER, everything else on the menu is delicious. From their tasty Italian, to the shaved steak and cheese (get extra cheese). The meatball sub is very very good. And if looking for a little lighter fare, the Gyro Salad is absolutely fantastic. All veggies very fresh and crisp. Lastly, their pasta dishes are extremely good with lots of spices and flavors and of course, should you want it, cheese. Not to mention, all of these are very good sizes and portions for a very reasonable price (large subs ~$7 all in, salads ~$6, pasta dishes ~$8) Were it not for the unfortunate state of the pie, this would be a 5 star rating. read more
