How is it possible this place can have five star reviews? This place is unbelievably disgusting and filthy. They lack the basic amenities for everything and you can tell their tools has never been sanitized. They oil up your leg for the massage and no hot towels to wipe off the oil so they send you leaving with grease all the way from your thigh to the bottom of your feet! No proper fans to dry your nail polish and of course, no temporary flip-flops so they just put your shoes back on with wet toenail polish. They were ruined by the time I walked to my car 10 feet away. I couldn't bring myself to go back into that disgusting place so I'll just go home and redo the polish myself, I can do a better job. But first things first, when I get into the car, I had to fully wipe down my leg with disinfectant wipe to rid of any disease you may catch. I got a groupon for a pedicure, hot stone massage, and paraffin wax with Cindy --- and so glad I did that! Cindy is one of a kind, truly. and, well...kind, too! when you leave this place, you don't feel emotionally abused or criticized. none, whatsoever. (which is, sadly, a rarity). she never pries in your personal life, and conversation is easy, and silences are not awkward. in fact, i was talking to her about my hesitance around gel mani/pedis and how it felt like it wasn't great for my nails. instead of trying to convince me otherwise, she admitted that it truly isn't the best for one's nails, and once you get gel done, typically people feel the need to keep coming back. talk about honesty! Cindy was super gentle and thoughtful and the classic pedicure was on point. in fact, as she was observing the pedicure drying, she ended up redoing half of the nails, because to her, it looked "ugly." Just goes to show the care and consideration on her part. Also. punctuality. which like never happens (at least at other salons). I had booked an appointment for 10:30, and by 10:30, I was seated, even though she was doing a pedicure for someone else. This nail shop is your typical "Chop Shop". Customers are lined up at stations and nail technicians are using what really are dental tools to grind down your fingernails. These shops are a "dime a dozen" and almost on every corner. I have been wearing artificial nails for over 20 years and have been going to this shop for at least 8 years. I only use the owner of the shop Ann as my technician. She really is a magician with fingernails. She is extremely fast with fills (30 min) and more important than anything, my nails look natural. They are very thin when she is finished. I have left shops before where my nails are as thick as dinner plates. Ann is also accommodating with appointments. Note - This is NOT a "sh-wee sh-wee" place. This is a place to get in and out quickly and have your fingernails looking really nice. I do not get pedicures at Art Nails. I have over the years and I just don't like them. I think that they have a bizarre way of doing them. For example, they put your feet in the spa tub for 3 minutes and then take them out and drain the tub. What's the point of that? I am rather shocked to see ANY negative comments on here about Art Nails!!! I was a customer of Anns since my 23 year old chid was only 6 months old!! When I moved out of the bay area I traveled an hour and a half JUST to go to her!!! Her shop is AMAZING, not alot of frills but AMAZING nails unlike any! no lifting, not thick beautifully shaped, very natural!! EVERYONE always complimented me on my nails when I got them done by her. If you want the BEST nails ever go see Ann at Art nails. If I did not have to move to Indiana I can guarantee you I would still be driving the hour and a half every 3 weeks to have her do them. They are beyond amazing!!!Trust me, I would not drive a suburban that far for "ordinary" nails, theyre extraordinary!! I have been coming to Art Nails for about 15 years to have China Silk nails and pedicures. The last 4-5 years I have been getting silk wrap with gel over them. The work is beautifully done. I get compliments on them all the time from both sexes. I usually get a French manicure on my hands and An does it by freehand. An and Amy are both professional, friendly and helpful. I was rather disappointed by my whole experience here. I especially found it to be pricey for the quality, $10 manicure and a $20 spa pedicure (I've gone to higher end places which charge the same amount). --the pedicure itself was pretty blah. I could've done better myself at home. --the massage was disappointing...and they use the oils to massage which end up getting all over the place. -- they forgot to turn on the jetstream in the foot spa --barely any opi colors and colors are on a cart, making it difficult to see options --chair was old and uncomfortable as was the chair massage. I have been going to see Ann at Art Nails for the better part of a decade, even though I do not even live in San Jose anymore. I receive a specialized service called the China silk manicure, which is where a combination of silk and glue is placed over my natural nail so that it can grow long and be beautiful and strong (my nails are so thin and break easily). This makes for a very exquisite yet natural look, and Ann is the only one I have ever seen who can do it so nicely. Another plus of this salon is that I can get my manicure and pedicure done at the same time, so it saves me time! Since I usually have to bring my children with me, it's most helpful to get in and out as quickly as possible. Ann is very accommodating with appointments and will even see me after hours if needed. I have been going to this salon for 20 years plus. It is a neighborhood salon, small, and they do an awesome job on my nails. I am a meat cutter for Lunardi's and it is a very physical job, but I need nice nails dealing with the public. I put my nails through a lot at work, but rarely in 20 years has a nail ever broke or fallen off, unless it was completely my fault hitting it too hard on something. I highly recommend this salon! The ONLY reason why I am giving this shop a 2 start is because of the way Ann treats me EVERY time I get my nails done by her. I've been going to Art Nails for over a year now and only continued because Ann is the only one who does "Silk wrap" on nails. She became more and more mean and aggressive and I couldn't understand why since I ALWAYS tipped her $5.00. She would yank my arm, and when I'd ask for a particular shape or color, Ann would TELL me what I want to get or make excuses as to why she couldn't give me what I asked for instead of trying to accommodate me on what I wanted. I've gone to her shop where I've had to wait sometimes up to 20 minutes and the ONE time that I was maybe 15 minutes late (because I got the times mixed up), Ann snapped at me and began speaking to me like a child (I'm 52 years old) and than began to speak in Vietnamese to the other workers about me. The ENTIRE time she was doing my nails she was frowning and talking under her breath to the other workers in Vietnamese. At one point she was using the drill to remove polish and it began to burn my finger and I let out a NICE "ouch." Ann pulled my arm and snapped at me that I needed to position my arm right and then she began to speak in Vietnamese again to her co-workers. The ONLY reason why I continued to go to Art nails and have Ann do my nails is because I love the silk wrap and couldn't find anyone who does that any more. BUT I am tired of Ann's abuse and want to publically say that she is rude, abusive and seems a bit racist. (I say that because every time a White customer came into the shop her whole attitude changed and she'd ALWAYS say "HELLO, or GOOD morning" in the cheeriest manner but when I came in, she would barely have eye contact with me and would mumble a "hello." And I felt she over charged me for everything. Even if I would break a nail, she'd charge me $4-5.00 and I heard that a lot of other nail shops won't charge LONG TERM customers. ANN does not have a very good grasp on what it is to treat customers nice. Instead of her becoming nicer to her long term customer, she became worse and treated me like I was one of her kids. I should have spoke up a LONG time ago and I regret that I didn't. ALL of the other ladies in this shop were genuinely kind and have great reviews. I will miss their sweet faces but I can't take the abuse from Ann any more. If you go to Ann, she may be nice the first few times but her true colors will appear so WATCH OUT!
