If you're the kind of person who equates "old school" with that period of time when MTV actually played music videos, prepare yourself for a revelation. Arthur's is the most "old school" place I think I have ever been, which is a huge testament to the overall experience one has when dining here. Tables with curtains that can be drawn to separate diners from the dining room? Check. A literal wall of an aquarium? Oh yes. A dance floor for waltzes, tangos and slow dances opposite an opulent bar? Lace up your shoes and meet me out there for a foxtrot some evening. It all combines with great service and even better food for an experience you will not find anywhere else in the DFW area. A coworker clued me in on Arthur's randomly one day last week when he said he went here for his anniversary. It was a place in Addison I had never heard of, and it sounded like it an upstanding destination. So how had this flown under my radar for so long? I'm really not sure, but I made a point to book reservations via OpenTable here the next chance I got. Neglecting Arthur's for so long was a mistake I hope to correct going forward. When you arrive, you stroll past a few patio tables before entering through a revolving door and having your mind blown. While the valet may have parked your car, or you decided to self-park, you probably took a glance at the freestanding building and never thought twice about how big it seemed. The laws of time and space do not apply at Arthur's because the inside of this place is much larger than the outside would have you believe. I'm no expert at physics but I wager this place is somewhere around the same size as Rhode Island. The first thing you see is the desk with staff to greet you. Behind this are two large dining rooms with booths, tables and private tables where diners can draw the curtains surrounding their immediate party. An aquarium stretching almost the entire width of the room separates a darkened bar area, where a dance floor and stage make up the far right wall. And as you take it all in, it may dawn on you that everyone here has figured out "'age' is only a number." The clientele may be "old," but I promise they can dance circles around you when "The Tennessee Waltz" is being performed by the awesome live band. We were seated at a horseshoe-shaped booth with the aquarium behind us, and it was surprisingly large, allowing for plenty of room for all of us. Our server, Henry, was over in no time at all, and he made sure our evening was fantastic. He got us started with cocktails, and whoever is behind the bar is a miracle worker when it comes to the Buffalo Stampedetini - this thing even came with its own private, mini ice bucket to chill the bourbon! (It was then that I began to suspect I was not cool enough to eat here.) From start to finish, the meal was divine. The crab cake was excellent, the caesar salad was delicious and the escargot ranks up there with the best I have ever had. Even the between-meal strawberry(?) sorbet was refreshing! By the time we got to our entrees, I was beginning to question the universe for keeping this place as a mysterious unknown from me for so long. Needless to say, the dover sole was "melts in your mouth tasty," the shrimp-and-avocado red snapper was exquisite and the seafood thermidor was better than what you would find at many seafood-centric places I've eaten at. By this time, the band had kicked in and the dining rooms were filling up. Yet despite how crowded it got, it never once got overwhelming or loud. There was definitely an energy in the air and you got the impression that you were part of some sort of underground secret the greater DFW area was missing out on. It was enough to make me will myself up from my coma-like status and make my way to the bathroom all the way in the back left of the dining room. (The restrooms are large, well-maintained and are painted a dark green that recalls your favorite country club.) Needless to say, I'm a fan of Arthur's. It absolutely feels removed from the 21st century in the best way possible. It may not be as "old school" as a Sega Genesis, but it can definitely show most "modern" restaurants a few things when it comes to outstanding service and an experience unlike any other. read more

First visit back to Arthur's since March 2019, which was a very good visit. Dinner for 4 on Friday night was extremely disappointing. Caesar salad was bland and dry. All 4 filets were overcooked and the quality of meat was terrible. Not at all like our previous visit. My favorite place to eat, drink and dance. Starting when you first walk in the door, you know you are in for an incredible dining experience. The food is wonderful. Soups are deliciously rich, steaks cut with a fork, lobster is sweet and buttery, salads are very fresh. The menu is spectacular with so many items to choose, I just named a few. The service in the dining room is second to none. From there, move into the bar for drinks and dancing. The best bartenders and servers Addison has to offer are here at Arthur's. THE BAR!!!! I've lived in north Dallas pretty much my whole life but just this past year did I discover this hidden gem. This review is solely based on the bar area as that's the only part of the restaurant I've experienced. Maybe that says a lot about what I like to spend my time doing. I'm not even sure how to put into words the bar at Arthurs. It's pretty dark inside. It has kind of a country club/retirement home feel to it. That might sound bad but it's great. The main thing that makes Arthur's unique is the people. If you are under 50 you'll be one of the youngest people here. Again, not a bad thing! Though the patrons are mostly in the 55 and up age bracket, they are a fun, lively bunch. Most nights there is some kind of "live" music. The "live" music is usually a fellow named Jerry(I think that's his name), on the stage with his guitar and iPad crooning various hits from the past 50 years. Arthurs also has an intimate but lively dance floor as well. There is ALWAYS at least one couple shuffling to beat. Arthurs is not for everyone but I love it for it's genuineness and uniqueness. We went for Restaurant Week. Nice old world atmosphere, but awfully dark for today's times. We loved the piano music during dinner the artist had a great voice and nice selection of music he sang. Very enjoyable. Now the food...Brie Champagne soup was outstanding. Roquefort lettuce head salad was very good. Wines by the glass disappointing and had to send the first back as it had turned and tasted of vinegar. Large bottle selection however. Beef tenderloin was ok and cooked perfectly, but I'm not really a Bernaise fan, so bad choice on my part. Red snapper with shrimp and avocado was disappointing. Shrimp were over cooked and tough. Red Snapper honestly didn't taste fresh and was pretty watery. Only 3 small pieces of avocado on it. On to desert. The grand marnier cream brûlée was outstanding. Maybe the best cream brûlée we have had. The limited restaurant week menu did not do the restaurant justice (its supposed to wow you to want to come back again). However the soup and dessert were so good, as well as the live music, we will probably come back and give the full menu at least one try next time we want steak. Family & I went to Arthur's to celebrate a birthday. Upon arrival we were greeted by a strange lacking personality greeter who just stood there looking at us. Once I engaged him and told him of our reservation he sat us. The atmosphere is your old style steak house from the 70's. For me & my guest this was fine as it was one reason I chose Arthur's. If you or your group is a young crowd or your guest are on the younger side, they won't impressed. The service was poor and disjointed especially on a slow dinner service. Now there were only 2 servers and the minimal assistance of the greeter. I am sure these 3 individuals have been in the restaurant business for many, many years. Unfortunately the restaurant business has passed them by. We sat at a 6 top booth and our server had difficulty passing our plates out. We ordered cocktails prior to dinner where our server took one order at a time. When he returned with one cocktail he would take another order, this happened 3 times as only 3 of us ordered a cocktail. Our table was set up with 6 wine glasses, one of our guest ordered a glass of wine and I said bring me the wine list as we would order a couple of bottles. Upon dropping off the wine list the server removed all but my glass. A different server stopped by and asked if we wanted to order any wine, I said yes and told him what bottle. That bottle never came and our original server came by and removed my wine glass. So I guess no wine for the table. We order Oysters Rockefeller which are great, a must order. With one oyster left on the tray our server removed the tray. We looked at each other, I guess we were done with our appetizer. A short time later our server returned with the one oyster on a small plate with no comment or explanation. Did it hit the trash then he realized he should have left it on our table or ask if we were done with it? Did a kitchen worker not want it so he brought it back? When we ordered there was no choice for sides, we were told the side would be asparagus & mashed potatoes for our Filet Mignon steaks. One of our guest order Salmon and another Pork Chops. All the food was good and cooked perfectly. We had no issues with any of our entrees or sides. If our server would have said the menu or sides were prix fixe we would have understood, but not explanation, something you wouldn't expect from a fine dining location. During our meal a small roach climbed up one of our guests arm to her surprise & shock. We didn't inform our server or Management as these things unfortunately happen where there is food. Given our less than stellar service, I didn't want to prolong our stay or give a reason to interact with any of the 3 servers/host on the floor. Once all of our plates & utensils were removed, our server attempted to set up silverware as to prepare for another course. I had no silverware to use to eat my sorbet but my guest in front of me had the server meticulously setting up his silverware. I looked across to my guest and we both laughed out loud. At the end of the evening we had a good meal, served by individuals that might have been pretty good back in the day, in an environment that is nostalgic. Their bar adjacent to the dining room provides some good cover songs and around 10 pm the bar vibe picks up with a Salsa Duo who plays and sings really good. Overall prices are in line with other white linen steak house's. The service definitely doesn't stsck up to the prices or white linen service expectation. I had the cheeseburger with bacon and fries for seven dollars my gas had the fillet sandwich I think it was under $10. We decided to go for restaurant week. The server was very inattentive and not welcoming. The food was subpar to say the least. I felt like I was at a cheaply catered wedding reception. The food tasted pre-made and batch cooked. It felt as if they lowered their level of service due to restaurant week. Sugar Bear and I had an outstanding Thanksgiving dinner at Arthur's! Neither of us is particularly fond of the typical Thanksgiving fare, so we usually visit with the family in the afternoon but save our eating for the evening at a good restaurant. Arthur's, with the $35 for a three course meal, is often our holiday meal choice. I started with the lobster-crab cakes. They were outstanding, huge, and had only enough filler to hold them together. They were served over a shredded cabbage that had some flavored oil on it. I ate every morsel of it. My entree was the pecan crusted trout with risotto and a vegetable bundle. It was ALL oh-my -GAWD good! The 3rd course was the creme brulee. I was so stuffed that I could barely eat it, but somehow I managed. Sugar Bear started with the famous champagne brie soup. He maintains a soup list of the best soups he's ever tried. Amici's mushroom soup is #1, and the champagne brie soup at Arthur's (and St. Martin's) is #2. He loves this stuff, but I find it to be awfully rich for my taste. His entree was the beef tenderloin with au gratin potatoes and vegetable bundle. The beef was perfectly cooked, super tender, and served with a mushroom/wine sauce that was to DIE for! I think this may be the best dish we've ever tried at Arthur's! His dessert was the cheesecake with Oreo crust. It was delish! We are always astonished at how wonderful the food is at Arthur's, especially these 3 course for $35 holiday deals! Arthur's is far from spectacular, doesn't deliver as one would expect and although its not horrible it came close to being so (for its class, at least). There's a big sign right above the front door that reads, "Proper Attire Required." We were dressed alright, not super fancy, so I was hoping we wouldn't feel out of place. After a quick look at what the other guests were wearing though, e.g. baseball caps, jeans, t-shirts, athletic clothing, I felt better, although disappointed that it wasn't enforced. The hostess was eating something from a plate at the hostess stand. That wouldn't bother me at, say, Chili's, but in a place like this, it does. We were seated in the dining area which only had two other tables, both of which were gone within 15 minutes. We looked at the menu and they have the typical seafood steakhouse selections. I got the Cesear salad and $22 duck, she got the lobster bisque and the $48 lobster tail. Although, I must say, the white sauce the tail came with was delicious. Wiped it clean. Likewise, the potato side was really good too. The salad was bland, almost tasteless and even when I doused it with the extra side of dressing I later ordered, it still tasted bland and almost tasteless. The duck wasn't anything special, although it was good. Her bisque was average and the tail was not worth the $48. At all. The décor was beautiful with the fish tanks, the elegantly carved wooden pillars and the romantic lighting, but the noise coming from the bar did not sit well with it all. They were playing loud '80s music, like Tina Turner stuff. It was annoying. I think what happened with this place is that a number of similar experiences happened to many guests and as a result, this place is slowly headed down the same road Steak and Ale took. The interior is very dark and I picture of bunch of men in power suits sipping scotch. I loved my recent experience at Arthur's and thought I found my new favorite place. So disappointed that such a lovely place would allow the disgusting habit of smoking indoors and I won't be able to visit again. I'm sure I won't be missed, the restaurant is quite lovely, the atmosphere is romantic, and the food was most enjoyable - making it a great place for smokers and those forced to tolerate them. I'm just as interested enjoying my hundred dollar meal sitting next to a smoker as I am sitting next to screaming toddlers vying for the crown of top tantrum. Despite the smoking policy and my being unable to return, I would still give the restaurant five stars, but for the waiter who doused himself in aftershave or cologne before his shift. I wondered why he was not ejected when he showed up at work reeking, but now realize the olfactory senses of the staff are far too damaged from years of abuse at this establishment to notice the offensive cloud following the waiter in question. I visited this place for a friend's birthday. We all ordered off the restaurant week menu. All of us were happy with what we got. I got lobster and lump crab cake for appetizer. Then I had the Shrimp avocado gulf red snapper as my entree and finished off with tres leches. The snapper was full of flavor and tres leches so yummy. Since most of us ordered different stuffs, we tried each other's. The champagne Brie soup was my favorite. I enjoyed and finished every little bit. Our server Henry? (Cannot exactly remember his name) was amazing. He saw how much I enjoyed and commented on me cleaning the plate spotless. Haha. There was a live music. Sigh... Damn... about sums it up for me. I went with a large group to dine for Christmas dinner this year and found myself underwhelmed by the food. I arrived about 5 minutes late for the group to tell me the server was discouraging separate checks... too bad. I had two glasses of champagne and the three course dinner ($35) totaling $68 with tip. That actually seemed high to me for the lack of flavor I had. I could have spent $5 for an upscale taco and gotten more ummmm for my buck! Soup (Champagne Brie) was ok, but I've had better upscale cream soups... The traditional turkey dinner was all salt and no flavor. Sure, I ordered the turkey... can't it be good? It came with mashed sweet potatoes (lackluster) haricot vert didn't taste right to me at all and the cranberry sauce was a serious miss. Lastly the cheesecake was a large portion of light fluffy cake... not my kind of cheesecake. I didn't get any wow factor during the meal at all. The folks I dined with tried other dishes and didn't seem to be loving anything overwhelmingly... the mousse was a total flop at the table and no one went for the creme brûlée. +1 for the cold dish with the salad and hot dish with the main course... only the hot dish was REALLY hot. In fact, mine should have come with an oven mitt... I kept saying how hot it was and other people went to touch it "wow, yours it hotter then mine"... uh yeah! It stayed hot until after I was done with the meal... wow Old world style and DAMN is it dark in this place. You go in blind, hope you don't run into a wall because your blind... then your thinking "my eyes have to adjust"... several minutes pass and your eyes have adjusted, only its still dark as hell. I told the group about reviews from "younger" people saying the crowd was "older"... we laughed when I said "You can tell how old patrons are by how dim the lights are"... Amazing woodwork and old world drapes... fireplace was lost by tables being crammed in next to it. This is a sizable place and has a tiny bathroom with two stalls, more then one person was almost hit by the door coming out. Arthur's as other reviewers have stated is definitely a hidden gem. I am not too big a fan of the very old atmosphere or the 80 year old hostess (although she was super nice) but when going to a place and spending steakhouse money you expect a few certain qualities to come with it. The service was pretty good although it seemed as if they were paying attention to their friends more than anyone else. But as with all steakhouses, it's mostly about the meat. And the steak here is top notch, some of the best steak I've ever had! read more

This restaurant has been consistently high quality for the 16 years we have visited it. The menu is thoughtful in that it has standards like lobster tail and filet, and new takes on more traditional dishes. The appetizer choices are fabulous. I cannot think of another restaurant that offers both steak tartare and escargots . Our most recent visit was the first time for our friends, one of whom had a birthday. Our party had French onion soup which was so rich and hearty it could be shared. We tried two salads; both of which were excellent and the portions very generous. I could not decide on an entrée so I went with two appetizers and split a salad with my husband. I brought home one of my bacon wrapped scallops on polenta and a good bit of my steak tartare. Because of the birthday we got a dessert - crème brulee. We also shared a chocolate chip cheese cake . They were delicious. The best part of the Arthur's experience is always having Rich as our waiter. He is so knowledgeable about the menu and wine list and he anticipates your every need. We dined during Restaurant Week - maybe that is an excuse for our less than stellar dinner. We want to be as fair as possible, so I'll take things by happenings: 1. We arrive and were greeted by a woman at their reception desk who asked if we had a reservation, we did and she looked at her book and told the Maitre'd "seat this party (4 ppl) who are here for Restaurant Week". It was sort of like a declaration vs. a welcoming. We were seated in the main dining room - a dark room with fish tanks - which provided lighting - Arthur's is an old style, old fashioned steak house - I'd hate to see it during the light of day. It needs a renovation - few restaurants still maintain that style of decor. Our waiter came by to take drink orders. We asked for a wine list and he said "you're not going to have cocktails?". We ordered a $60 bottle of wine and our dinner. Appetizer for all was the Crab Cake which was to be served on a bed of Jicama Slaw. The plates were so hot we couldn't touch them... Slaw on a hot plate? Anyway, the Crab Cake was good and generous. The Slaw hadn't a hint of Jicama, tiny portion of limp cabbage (hot plates wilted it) and red & green peppers. Crab cake was tasty, we all enjoyed it. Not long after our entree's arrive; two Rib Eye Steaks, on a plate with an small scoop of mashed potatoes and a piece of Broccoli. No garnish, no sauce, no one offered steak sauce. The Rib Eyes were just so-so - tough really, didn't have that nice char-broiled look or taste. My friend had the Tornedos - and liked them; they were thin and each had a different sauce. That plate looked more interesting. I had the Fish entree and it was nice looking and tasted good! It was accompanied by white rice that had red and green peppers and they were all over the plate - guess the Chef likes peppers? Our desserts were a Creme Brulee and and Ice Cream scoops with raw (vs. toasted for flavor and appearance) sliced almonds sprinkled on top and it had chocolate sauce under it. Didn't look like much but you can't go wrong with Vanilla Ice Cream, nuts and chocolate sauce. No berry or garnish - very plain unadorned. Our glasses were always filled and we had to ask for additional butter several times to accompany the bread - the busser did a good job - which was needed since our waiter wasn't available often. They forgot about the coffee's ordered - finally brought them when everyone was already finished with their desserts. The restaurant had patron's but wasn't full or overly busy on a Saturday night. So, dinner was about $100.00 per couple++. We didn't think the quality was commensurate with even the discounted pricing - there just wasn't anything notable to talk about. Perhaps they "dumb down" their Restaurant Week food, but that did not serve them well. Sorry to say we would not return though we dine in Addison from time-to-time. read more

Figured out would try this place out because it is across the street from my hotel... MISTAKE! First, I was served COLD butter with a warm loaf of bread. The crab cake appetizer was very good although didnt care much for the sweet corn drizzle. Now the worst part of my meal... the entree. I have NEVER had a bad bone-in ribeye steak until I came here. The meat was overcooked and had a bitter aftertaste with no natural flavor. Then to compensate for lack of flavor, they put a BROWN GRAVY underneath the steak that made it worse! Great Steak House for Romantic Dinner. Excellent service and tasty food. It has dark environment, but once inside you getting used to it. The place has about 8 aquariums, and a several tables around a fireplace. Very nice addition for those winter months. On the night I was there there was a singer, playing and singing slow motion classics. I would recommend and go again to this place if I am visiting Dallas/Addison again. Arthur's is my favorite restaurant in DFW, hands down. Right when you walk in to the door the staff makes you feel like royalty. The Mahogany wood interior and gigantic fish tank takes you on a journey as if you were walking into the Titanic. The atmosphere is unmatched. I am so picky when it comes to steaks, and the Ribeyes are melt in your mouth bursting with juicy flavor. Perfectly seasoned, perfectly cooked, everything about it is just amazing. I have also had the rack of lamb and it was a little slice of heaven. You cannot go wrong with either of these dishes. Also, the service is outstanding. Came in for a Christmas party banquet. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and my husband ordered the steak. The sea bass was pretty decent but the steak was just ok. The sides were quite pathetic. They actually probably baked a tray full of them and then drop the sad looking green bean on the side of our plate. The plate presentation was really sad for such a nice restaurant. Beautiful fancy looking restaurant with plates that looks like it could be from Chili. Sorry but the presentation and food just doesn't go well with the atmosphere or the fancy decor. read more

I had my wedding reception here and they were so good to us. The wait staff here is top notch. The food isn't going to blow your mind, but it's done very well. Still has a smokey smell to it, which can be hit or miss depending on your preference. What is also great about this place, and why we used it for our wedding reception. It has a bar area that includes a dance floor and live band most nights. It is definitely an "older crowd" which can be a little off putting unless you are the older crowd. Came here for Restaurant Week because their menu selection seemed great...but was definitely disappointed. The waiter was awkward and slow...maybe drunk, I don't know. He asked us if we were here for Restaurant Week, we said yes then he left (to get the menus, I presume)...we waited 10 minutes, no menus. Came back again with a wine list and asked us again if we were here for Restaurant Week, we said yes...again then he walked away. Finally, I had to ask someone else for menus. Our first first course was fine. The entrees took FOREVER. Not only could we tell because we waited at least 25 minutes if not more, but the plates were also scorching hot from sitting under heat lamps too long...which dried out the food. The dessert also took forever and were sub par (except for the creme brule!). I don't know how this place has such a high rating. The place itself has an old feel, not in a good way (like most places in Florida where old people go to die) and a smokey smell as if a million cigarettes were smoked in there. Not at all impressed with the quality of service. I would give this place one star but most of the food was decent, so I'll give them two. Needless to say, we won't be coming back here. read more

Sometimes you walk into a place and you know it's best days are behind it. I love a classic steakhouse, but they have evolved. It no longer has to be so dark you need a torch. The band playing cover tunes didn't add to the ambiance. Tomato and mozzarella salad is a classic. It never included half inch slices of red onion. If it were busy I would understand, but with no more than 10 people. The steak was good, I just wish I had been able to see it... Time to take old Yella out the back and end it read more

My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary, and it happened to be Restaurant Week. And we happened to have a coupon from restaurant.com. (We happen to be cheap.) The atmosphere was wonderful - dark, intimate, and very fancy. There were aquariums of fish everywhere and there was live music coming from the other room. The restaurant week fixed menu was pretty good. I ordered the mediterranean salad, 8 oz. filet mignon, and peach cobbler for dessert (although I was eyeing the creme brulee as well). My boyfriend got the crab cake, 16 oz. NY strip, and belgian chocolate mousse. My salad was alright and his crab cake was tasty. Our entrees were definitely the best part though. The meat was so juicy, tender and flavorful. I've had good steak, but this was probably one of the best steaks I've ever encountered. He was very happy with his humongous portion as well. We were both stuffed before dessert rolled around. Speaking of desserts, I'm not a big fan of peach cobbler but my waiter reccommended it so I thought I'd give it a shot. It was good, but I'm more of a chocolate lover. His mousse was just okay, in my opinion. Our total bill came to $50 with our discounts. I think I enjoyed the experience twice as much because of how inexpensive our meals were, but if I came back on a regular day I would probably be overwhelmed. It's definitely a pricey, upscale place for people who don't mind spending money on a luxurious dinner. Overall, the food was great, service was attentive and polite, and our bill wasn't crazy.
