ok first of all the sandwiches are first rate can't say anything too bad about that. However if you call ahead with a sandwich order you are told very nastily that the sandwiches won't be made until 11. Do you not wanna do business? Also depending on their mood sometimes they can give you a single slice of meat in their sandwiches. I ordered 7 sandwiches and asked politely to pack in the meat and was charged about 4 extra $$$ per sandwich for extra meat 7 sandwiches cost me over $100 and like I said they are very nasty in that little shop it's almost like they know they are good but don't really care if you frequent the shop or not. I'll tell you what makes this stand out since anyone can throw mozzarella and meats on bread. First, they give you a slab of fresh mozzarella. As a cheese lover there's never enough cheese on sandwiches; I had more than my fill with this one. Second, it's just not fresh bread, it's fresh bread smeared with olive oil and seasoning and then toasted. Last, the balsamic they use is like syrup. Its so concentrated, sweet, and flavorful. I'm going back there just to buy a bottle. The place is tiny. I went during off hours but I can only imagine how crazy it gets there during lunch. If it's your first time, don't get discouraged when you drive down the road and think you're in the wrong place. Just keep going and it will be on your left. $10 minimum for credit cards. They use high quality meat and cheeses as well, no processed crap that tastes like rubber. My favorite sandwich is #52, turkey, fresh mozz and balsamic vinegar. They use fantastic balsamic vinegar as well, very sweet and delicious and pairs beautifully with the mozzarella. Artisan also has the BEST pignolis I've EVER HAD. I went here with my boyfriend because he assured me "They use all Royal Crown products, but its BETTER than Royal Crown!" as a Royal Crown enthusiast, I had my doubts. The Artisan Bakers Group is hidden away on a desolate road, I questioned how anyone even knew they existed. The shop itself is very tiny, take out only, clearly designed to get you in and out. they have a long list of sandwiches and multiple signs that say 'NO CUSTOMIZATIONS" -- meaning nothing can be added to or taken off of the sandwich. I thought this seemed a little strange but my boyfriend said it was meant to keep up the speed of the service. If that were true, then I guess it would be understandable, BUT WE WAITED A HALF AN HOUR FOR TWO SANDWICHES. There was one girl at the small counter, which seemed sufficient enough but as the customers came lining up, her speed was not fast enough to accommodation the growing line. She took our order, started our sandwiches, then took someone else's order, then helped a woman who wanted pastries and coffees. I understand that in a usual setting, someone who just wants something out of the display case should get served first since their order is quicker, but since she was already in the middle of helping 3 other people and was the only employee behind the counter, I think she should have prioritized the multiple patrons waiting on sandwiches. Eventually a man came from the back to help her but he definitely should have come to assist her sooner. Upon finally getting my sandwich, #2 on the menu-- mozzarella, tomatoes and balsamic, I found that there was no balsamic on my sandwich. Maybe they didn't see their "no customizatrions" signs, if I can't customize then neither can they! Good thing I paid $1 extra for two small cups of balsamic on the side. On the plus side, they do brush the inside of the bread with an olive oil blend and pop it in the toaster before making the sandwiches. It gave the sandwich a nice flavor and the outside of the bread had a nice crunch to it while the inside was still soft and fluffy. Nice touch to an otherwise miserable experience. Definitely not better than Royal Crown, my boyfriend is a liar. read more

This place has amazing sandwiches and most of the staff is great. I would have def given them a 5 star except for the horrible middle aged woman with glasses who works behind the counter. She is nasty and rude over the phone for no reason whatsoever. She has the worst attitude and is short with every response. Every time I go in there she is having a problem with one or another customer. She can't contain her terrible attitude for one second. She must be a family member or something. People like that are poison for a business. I have owned two very successful business' for over 15 years and I can tell you she should be fired! I have witnessed countless fight with customers not to mention how horrible she has treated me when I was picking up food. Artisan Bakers makes the most incredible, mouth watering sandwiches on Staten Island! The crispy brick oven bread is the perfect compliment to any of their many combinations. Who knew so much goodness could come from the little shack at the end of an industrial road??? I hear they make an amazing pizza as well. Just beware that they get very busy, so you might have to wait on line, but definitely worth the wait! Unfortunately, they do not deliver. That's why I only gave them 4 stars. If you own your own business like I do you must talk to your customers, especially when they call and say they feel sick after eating at your place of business. Heating up food in the microwave is disgusting ! Pure laziness! As we were eating our rice balls and sausage and pepper roll we had to keep going inside to request for the food to be warmed up even more. You can not serve meat under a certain temperature... really horrible experience today. The money to go over the bridge to Brooklyn to eat a quality meal is so worth it. I called to place an order for pickup, the girl hung up on me before I even said the full order without telling me price, wait time, nothing. When i got there she gave me an attitude so I let her know to be nicer to customers or they will lose them, her response was "don't tell me how to live my life" so i asked to speak with the manager and she said they don't have a manager just all staff. I absolutely love this place.. The food is great and the seven layers are hands down the best. The only reason I'm giving one star is because the lady that works behind the counter is so beyond miserable. Every single time my I go there to pick up food or whatever the case is, she always has a problem and can never get the order right.. She is beyond rude and has no manners. Besides being unaccommodating, and passing sarcastic remarks she wouldn't make a sandwich because it was 3:55.... And then when she did make the sandwich I asked her to put cheese on only half and she said we don't customize orders. I responded with the sandwich is being split between two people and if I'm paying for the whole thing I'm gonna be charged for the cheese anyway why can't you just put it on half ? She then put the cheese on half and forgot the arugula which is fine but seriously she needs to get her shit together because her attitude is so bad. If you're that miserable & working at your age in a bakery then maybe you should quit. I will end this by saying that I will not go there in the near future because because of her.
