Delicious scones and excellent coffee. My go-to place for coffee and first stop in the morning while in Ouray.

Go for the cinnamon rolls. Stay for the croissants. Wouldn't recommend the bagels, but the place is great otherwise.

Where do I begin? Do not go here unless you want the rudest service ever! I have never seen such rude owners before in my life... and I am not trying to over exaggerate people. First, we came with our children. Since we walked into town, we had to bring our stroller. Not sure if this ticked them off but they seemed annoyed... our kids were on their best behavior and sat in the stroller the whole time. Second, since I am nursing I had asked for decaf coffee. The guy was so annoyed as if decaf coffee never existed. He gave me a rude no. Third, they have a little water station which I thought was nice but it was room temperature water. When I asked for a cup of ice, again I got a rude no. (Lol). Funny thing was I ordered an iced coffee which had ice in it.. was it that hard to give your paying customer a cup of ice? Fourth, none of their pastries or quiches are labeled. There were three quiches in the window. When asked which one I wanted I had them explain what was in them? How could I know the contents of it Isn't labeled people?? Again got very rude response. Total attitude. Did not get one smile from them from the moment we walked in. There were a couple other things I could write but I think this is enough said. Do yourself a favor and find a different place to have coffee and breakfast. Down the street there is a place called Roast- excellent place. I will be reviewing my great experience there next. read more

First ever review I have written. Only writing cause it was that bad! Visiting Ouray for a few days and needed a quick breakfast. They were so incredibly rude from the moment we walked in till we left! If you are in the area you might want to find another place to go that actually wants customers to return! read more

The pastries are delicious and the breakfast sandwiches hit the spot. All items are fresh made. The bacon was very good, cooked crispy but not burned, I had to place two extra orders for my 5 year old twin grand kids. Artisan Bakery is a true bakery! Everything is fresh made. I stayed in Ouray for a few nights with my boyfriend and every morning we got our breakfast at the Artisan Cafe. They freshly bake their pastries and treats daily, with a different selection each day. The first day I just HAD to buy a doughnut in addition to my breakfast sandwich (which was also delicious), as it came out of the oven. So light and fluffy! The second day I had a similar problem and somehow found myself in the possession of one of their giant cinnamon buns. If you find yourself in Ouray, be sure to stop in. Great food, low prices, quirky owners. We had a 2 yummy coffees, breakfast wrap, croissant sandwich and cinnamon roll. The pasty items are fresh baked in their kitchen and the cinnamon rolls were great, moist on the inside. Other reviewers have noted the owners are rude. I think the husband is uncomfortable with strangers. I observed him with people he knew and he was quite friendly. They really should put the young, attractive girl who is making pastries at the register and keep him in back but this is a mom and pop place. If you don't like quirky you might not like Ouray anyway with its dirt streets. I would normally give this whole experience a 4 but figure the 1 Star reviews for bad service already cover that. read more

What an amazing little bakery! I went on a slow morning in off season and was welcomed with a big smile and a magnificent latte! Bread was being prepared and I read the paper, had a bagel, and pinched myself for being so lucky! Free water for tourists,like me, that are chronically dehydrated here! read more

This place we wandered into for breakfast, and came back 3 days in a row. Its super friendly, local, fresh. Great breakfast, coffee. THe breakfast sandwiches were awesome. Went around 8:50am. They were almost out of everything. Not a single donut or pastry that I was looking for. Ended up getting a blueberry muffin (plain tasting), blandest cinnamon roll I have ever tried, and a blueberry bar. The bar was the best out of the three, but still not great. What is outstanding about this bakery is that the owners seem incredibly unhappy. Even rude at times. Never once have they thanked me for my business. There pastry cases are generally 75% empty when I come in around 9 o'clock in the morning. Very unappealing. They give the impression that they want you to leave as quickly as possible. Ouray has no good breakfast options, and this bakery is exhibit #1. The owners seem totally apathetic to see you and seem to take no pride in their establishment. My observations include: even at 7am when they open, everything is dirty, spilled sugar and milk at coffee station wasn't cleaned up from the previous day, old newspapers thrown in the rack, dirty and broken window blinds, dirty glass, floors, bathroom, and the bakery is mediocre at best. The best thing about the place was the owners' young son who runs the counter & cash register before school. Maybe he should take over from his grumpy dad who doesn't say good morning and seems to be more interested in helping the regular local who is fourth in line BEFORE helping the tourists in front of him! read more

Why wouldn't you stop, grab a cinnamon roll and cup of coffee. The view from the tables outside is unmatched.

My climbing partner and I stop here every morning during our annual trip to Ouray, and we pick up a sandwich for lunch between climbs (plus a pastry, sometimes). We have fallen in love with the turkey salad sandwich -- big chunks of turkey, cranberries, diced apples, walnuts, and goat cheese between thick slices of the house whole wheat bread. Haven't tried the pizza yet, but hopefully we'll pick one up next year and head to Grumpy's brewery. So grateful to the friendly owner, who recognizes us and even makes sure to set aside some turkey salad for our sandwiches the next day. read more

We tried a couple times in the morning for their breakfast but they weren't open so we tried lunch later in the week. The sandwiches were good but little variety. I thought they would have baked goods but they had just a couple croissants and quiches. read more

They offer gluten free bread, but didn't stock enough to make sandwiches for our family of 5. They also stock some gluten free desserts, but we've had much better other places. It was a nice option for getting some sandwiches to go, and I imagine gluten eaters would love it because there was a lot of fresh baked bread. The folks working there weren't rude, but could stand to step up the friendliness. read more
