The first thing we did upon arriving in Chicago was call the company to confirm a pickup time for our camper. Initially, we were told that it would be ready at 1:00 PM, but later they informed us it wouldn't be available until 3:00 PM. No apology or compensation was offered for this change. Regardless, we decided to arrive early and be on time. We got there at 2:30 PM and unfortunately had to wait until 6:30 PM -- a total of three and a half hours -- to receive the camper. To make matters worse, we were informed at the moment of pickup that the two kits we had added to our reservation -- the bedding kit (which included towels, sheets, pillows, etc.) and the kitchen kit (with plates, cutlery, glasses, etc.) -- were not available. They told us we would have to go to Walmart ourselves to buy all those items, because they "didn't have time" to prepare them. On top of that, the camper was damaged. They told us that the awning didn't work and that if we wanted one, we would have to buy it ourselves. The camper was also handed over with the toilet tank completely full, which we had to empty on our own. The water tank was not filled either -- they only took care of it after we pointed it out. Additionally, the generator failed to start on multiple occasions and only worked on the third attempt. This gave us no sense of confidence, and we left feeling anxious about potential issues during the trip. The staff were not friendly at all, and the service we received was far from professional. We felt neglected and poorly treated throughout the entire process. Our experience with this company was very disappointing. After having to go to Walmart to buy all the basic essentials that we were counting on, and after waiting over three hours to receive a damaged camper, we were unable to reach the campsite we had booked as our first stop. We had to spend the night in a parking lot in Chicago, which was a complete disaster. We are extremely dissatisfied and will not book with this company again, nor will we recommend it to others. read more

We had a horrible experience here. Stuck in the office for 2.5 hours to get our unit because Nancy continuously messed up our paperwork with another customer's. She was rude, showed no urgency, and every other customer was in the same boat as us. She chatted on the phone with someone about another customer's complaint and how ridiculous they are right in front of me while I was waiting for her to do my paperwork. I have never written a negative google/yelp review in my life but this one I had to. This was the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I dropped off an RV here and was berated by the employees. Yelled and aggressively screamed at. I think the woman who deals with most of the customer service might be mentally ill and off her medication. If she isn't, then she is just a horrible person. There are other reviews of her on the El Monte (who they are a subcontractor of) site where she is said to have made racist comments, screamed at old people, and scammed multiple customers by making up fake charges. I have no idea why the head guy employs her. She is a seriously awful person who must be deeply unhappy with her life. The son, Patrick, works there too and is very unprofessional. We were scammed out of $900 of fake charges. This is a horrible business, everyone there seems very unhappy, and they take it out on customers. Avoid at all costs. read more

El Monte and Arts RV have some bad business practices. If you show up with your own car to rent an RV, Arts is going to charge you $10/ day to leave it there. El Monte requires you to show up for your pick up appointment after noon but on your return you have to be in by 11:00 or else they charge a $100 late fee. The return time isn't obvious either, it's hidden in the paperwork and was never mentioned at checkout. So they charge for full days but you don't actually get full days. It was a double screw job! Aside from this the camper was clean and everything functioned as it should. read more

Pick up paper work by Nancy took 4 plus hours and 3 hours for return... will you go there again?? We were charged $350 for the Tinny , very tiny scratch on windshield replacement ( we believe the scratches were not made by us but our fault didn't take photo when we picked up, the scratches were rarely visible!) I don't believe her saying that they will replace the windshield before leasing to next client as other camper we rented also had some scratches (fortunately another drive took a photo before departure)..... so be aware !!! Patrick at Art's RV took amazing care of me! I live in California, and the best deal I found on an RV was in Glen Ellyn. Patrick was with me every step of the way, from sending me pics of the cabin to helping me find a mechanic to inspect the vehicle. Patrick was honest, ethical, and never up-sold me. He also never suggested work I did not require, nor did he use inferior parts. He picked my up at my hotel (I flew to Chicago from Los Angeles), he gave me a working tour of the RV, and he was there for phone calls every mile home. I honestly cannot recommend Patrick and Art's RV enough. Whether you are buying or selling, it's worth the extra mile to use this dealership. read more

Brought my camper here for a replacement of canvas. They decided to repair where stitching was coming apart. It was unacceptable to them when stitched the first time 3 month later so they sent it back to their vendor. Now it's raining and the rain is coming through the stitching so it's a failed job. Not to mention it took 6 months just to get it wrong. Bad business... Sale man Patrick is not very pleasant either they took 400 off the balance cause of the shaggy work. still paid over 1000 for a repair that needs to be repaired! read more

Patrick was able to sell our Rv for a surprisingly good price and the whole process went very well. I'm a newbie in the RV world. I had a hard time starting my generator one night and wanted to get it looked at before getting on the road. I hadn't thought about the fact that it was New Year's Day so practically every place was closed. Art's RV was nice enough to still see me even though it was a holiday. He was very patient as he showed me how to check the oil in my generator and went over how to start it including explaining why to hold the prime button longer. After topping off my propane, I was nervous about backing up through the narrow way so he drove my rig for me. They were extremely helpful and I appreciate it so much that they were willing to do so on a holiday. read more

We have a truck. We have an RV. We needed to connect the two together. Quickly. In our quest to find a place that would install a fifth wheel hitch on the bed of our truck, not many places showed up on our radar. We called around, spoke to someone at Art's RV, was impressed (the person my husband spoke to on the phone was knowledgable, thoroughly answered our questions, and worked with us to find the parts we needed), and decided to trust them with the work. I was honestly quite nervous about it, considering the size of the job and the amount of dollar bills we were dropping on it. We had the hitch and rails, the hardware and actual installation was the work we needed. We dropped everything off of on Tuesday, explaining that we would need it done by the end of the week. The manager(?) assured us it wouldn't be a problem.. and it wasn't! We picked it up the next day!! The hitch looked great on the truck. We were originally quoted at four hours (at $100-ish an hour), but the job ended up being eight hours because of our older truck had a shifting truck bed. Eek -- that could have been a pretty big price tag, but thankfully, we were only charged for five hours' worth of labor (plus the hardware, and the accessories we picked up). WHEW! I'm really happy with everything so far. We have yet to hook the RV up to the truck because we are waiting on a few little things to arrive, but I'm sure it will be fine. So relieved. You have no idea. And so excited to hit the road in our little home! read more

UPDATE! my trailer is in and they made sure I know how everything works, helped me get my truck set up, and after the first shakedown trip addressed any and all issues I had. Imagine renting an RV, then come back to return it, then they finding a scratch on your window. And charge you a 350 bucks on it. You want to argue that it wasn't made by you, as you knew that when it was given to you, there was a scratch, and you forgot to take a picture before. You want to take the case and find a lawyer, but that would cost more than 350 bucks. They basically took 350 bucks, and you have no evidence against it. You couldn't even get a lawyer because it would cost more than 350 bucks, and would be impractical. So they basically took 350 bucks from your pocket and you could do nothing about it. This is how Art's RV is like. They take advantage of you every chance they get. Finding any reason they can to charge you more. Don't go here. They're all cheaters, liars. read more

Brought my Coleman here October 2019. Had a blow out, tore up the floor, door, and electrical on camper. Picked it up today. Nothing has been done to it. Couldn't even get pics to the insurance company. 11 months and nothing. Wouldn't bring my dogs house here. If it would let me leave less than one star, I would! You can purchase stuff at Art's RV, but I wouldn't go back to have any work done on any camper. Look at other reviews - do you find any, where people loved the repair work that they did? Below is my problem with Art's: First, it took many months for them to do a job that took one person later- one hour on the phone ordering parts, and 3 hours to do the job. I had to beg to get my camper back for a family reunion from Art's RV - and the leak wasn't fixed so we took the chance on sunny weather for the weekend. When we drove back, it rained, and it leaked. They charged $800 for a seal kit, and the work. In that $800, they charged $324.88 for a rubber seal kit, that could be ordered for $56. Unbelievable. No honesty here, especially at the top. Arts RV fixed one thing, and made one other thing worse, and we still had a camper that leaked and we paid $800. I then had to find someone else to fix it correctly, and paid them $456 including a seal that had to be taken off (put on my Arts) to do the job correctly. The problem with many of these camper places is you talk to one manager, he passes information onto another service manager, and then 1 or 2 people do the work - and there is a communication break down. Also many camper places have so much work to do, that they don't care about your business. They don't care if thet get it right. They don't care if you come back. They charge a ridiculous amount of money and you still have the same leaking problem. They take the jobs that are easy, like winterizing, for their customers, especially customers who purchased a camper from them or they like to do warranty work. But if you have a problem and you want it fixed - forget it. read more

New to RV'ing and brought it here because it was close. I even talked to them before purchasing an RV I had in mind. Then bought RV, purchased from a private seller, low cost and old. If I didn't get into this, not much invested then. Then I brought it straight to Art's. I got a list of issues and told them to start with resealing the roof and windows. Then we can go from there. Literally a month later and still no work done. But the catch is they said they did a couple repairs. They only work on the RV interior and exterior, no engine work. I called a local RV shop to look at the engine, they picked it up from Art's. Within a week I had a list of issues and told them to start working on. I went to the mechanic within 2 days and check on the RV. They have it on jack stands and you can see they are working on it. Then I look at the roof (which ARTs said they resealed) still looked the same as when I bought it a month earlier. I go complain to Dan at ART's and he said they did "patch work". WRONG!! Even the receptionist said she was told by Dan that they did reseal the entire roof. He didn't charge us the 300 for the initial assesment due to the "mis communication". Not going back. Would give a half star if I could. read more

While on a road trip back from Nevada to Chicago then on to Florida we had our cargo trailer burglarized. While stopped we saw Art's to see if they could repair the hasp and lock area that was destroyed by the burglary . They had the parts and were able to fix it that morning. Great price and workmanship. What a blessing to be able to travel with lock and door repaired and secured. Great service, friendly and helpful. I will recommend these guys to my family living in the area! read more

I was very disappointed with their service. They replaced the subflooring on my Class A motorhome as part of an insurance claim. It took 5 1/2 months! Poor communications along the way - some calls were not returned. Schedules were not met. More than once I was told that the insurance company was not being responsive but found that the insurance adjuster was awaiting responses from them. read more

Customer service is terrible. Everyone in the shop just stairs at you like your stupid. Installation took over 3 hours to do. They also left scratches on my truck bed that I know were not there because the truck is brand new. read more

I brought a '98 Four Winds Chateau in because of generator problems. It sat for three weeks before they finally looked at it (in spite of calls every other day by me to Gary in the service department). Gary finally admitted that the rental business is more important to the owner so they get serviced first. Finally after three weeks, he never was able to figure out what was wrong with the generator (he came up with an excuse that it was a gas tank problem which they don't service). The gas tank is fine. It turned out to me a very inexpensive electrical switch that burned out on the generator. They are clueless. Do not take your RV there for service. Useless. read more

I will never rent from here again. The staff is extremely disorganized and not helpful in the least. I had to wait two hours before they had the RV ready. They rushed the walk through and only did one because I insisted. A vinyl strip flew off the roof while I was driving through wind in South Dakota and again in Nebraska which could have caused an accident. When I told them about it they casually admitted it wasn't installed correctly. Then they charged me $350 on my card days after I returned the rental without warning me at all. I had to call repeatedly to get answers. Turns out one of the inner tires has a screw in it and that's conveniently not covered by insurance, even though that was not explained to me at all. I was told the only thing not covered by insurance was damage to the roof. I don't know why you would even get insurance if it doesn't cover something like a screw in a tire which is something you can't avoid. I can't believe I had to chase them for that answer. When I returned the RV the woman doing returns was just looking at her phone for a full five minutes, not acknowledging me at all. They don't seem like they know what they are doing at all and I don't think they care to even try to act like it. read more

I recently had extensive repairs to my 2008 5th wheel, the repairs were completed in a timely manner and done so that the trailer looked like new. I have had my 5th wheels repaired for the past 8 years and have always been impressed with the quality of workmanship. Do Not rent from this company or El Monte RV. We rented a camper and were rushed through the walk thru. We have never rented a large camper before and wanted the full description of how everything operated. We were treated like an inconvenience when we arrived and were rushed thru a walk thru. The camper was wedged very near to the building when we arrived and during the walk thru, the driver door was open so the guy walked us up to the driver door and then around the back side. We returned the camper a day earlier, about 1000 fewer miles than we paid for, completely spotless and with more fuel than when we received it. They claimed there was a minor scratch in the black plastic covering the mirror on the driver side and we were responsible for replacing it at a cost of $300 plus dollars. We insisted that we didn't hit anything and have no idea if that was there before we took the vehicle as the driver door was left open and we never walked around that side of the camper. We ended up walking out of there very frustrated as they basically called us liars. I told them to check their video surveillance from the day we picked it up and they got very quiet. Never again. They were rude and I don't appreciate being blamed or charged for something I didn't do. If I would have damaged something, I would have replaced it. I cleaned their filthy, cigarette smell motor home better than we received it, fixed the kitchen sink that was leaking profusely, and took care of their vehicle. We didn't expect to be treated the way we were. Very disappointing experience all the way around and I just checked my credit card and found that they ran the credit card and charged me for the mirror cover without my authorization. I will NEVER rent anything from them ever again. Lesson learned and I will make sure I tell everyone I know about my experience. If for some reason you do decide to rent from them, I strongly suggest you video tape the entire conversation and walk thru process so you don't end up paying for someone else's mistake. read more

Their prices are decent, but the horrible customer service and inefficient office procedures heavily outweigh any deal that you might get. Expect to spend at least 2+ hours here when picking up AND returning. If anything is wrong with the RV, that will easily add on another hour. The office operations are all very inefficient so be prepared for long lines, unfriendly staff, and other disappointed customers. read more

We rented a pop-up camper and received a walk through on the way out. However, when we returned the camper there was no inventory or review of the camper when we returned. Instead, I was asked if it was Okay and it was. We returned all the items and cleaned it before we returned it. I received a call later that day claiming that a hand-crank was missing. I called back to say there was no inventory done when I could witness it so I should not be responsible for something they lost because all the items were left inside when I returned the camper. My recommendation is if you go with Art's, don't leave the business until they review the rental to complete the return process and don't allow them to do it later when you aren't there for their convenience. read more

I decided not to go with them because of their antiquated sales tactics. 3 months later the conversion van was still listed for sale on Craigslist. Lol like 19 seventies used car salesman! I called and spoke to Dan regarding renting a pop up camper and specifically told him it was for 3 days over Labor Day weekend. Dan was more than happy to give me a price, a description of the camper and that he would need a $500 deposit, which is to be expected. I made all the arrangements at home, with work and the family then proceeded to visit Arts to complete the paper work. I was in Arts RV for 2 minutes and was told by a Hispanic woman there was a FIVE DAY MINIMUM RENTAL...... so why wasn't I told this by Dan? Is it greed that they decided I had to rent for 5 days. I had to give them one star because it won't let you give zero. This place is an absolute joke. Owner dosent give a damn about anything, Earl the salesman is anything but a salesman since I sold my own camper off their lot, but they still made sure to take their commissions off MY sale. This place is a joke from top to bottom. Go to General RV in Huntly or find anywhere else to go other then to these jokers!! Should be shut down by the BBB which is where my next post is going to be. We reserved a 15 Ft truck for rental from them. Called a few days before and they told us we were all set. Called again the morning I was supposed to pick it up and again was told the truck was on the way to their location. When I arrived at their location, the person at the counter was on the phone. As I walked in, they handed the phone to me. The person on the other end of the phone tells me that they didn't put the reservation into their system until late the night before and that I would not have a truck. So either they gave my rental to someone else who paid more, or they are just that messed up that they have no idea where their trucks are at any one time. At no point did anyone say, "Hey, we are really sorry about that!" Instead, I got the attitude of "Oh well, you don't have a truck, so deal with it." So my recommendation to anyone who is thinking of renting anything from them is don't do it. They are ignorant and rude and could not possibly care less about their customers. Horrible!!!!! read more
