I love that there is a market close by with all the goodies. The staff is always so nice, they have so much selection for being such a small store. The store is very well organized. This store is a life saver! There aren't very many authentic Asian restaurants in this area so I have to cook it myself. Luckily Asahi has a smorgasbord of products... SOLD: The market that was owned by the sweet Japanese Couple was sold to money hungry people who are rude and unprofessional. So rude I wanted to go off at the guy. He ordered me around like take stuff out basket, you put basket there, definitely not polite respectful like the old owners. They are money hungry and have raised prices. I paid and he acted like he did me a favor letting me shop there. There are other better larger Asian markets in Oxnard and they are Island View Market on Pleasant Valley Rd and Seafood City Market on Rose Avenue. PRICES HAVE GONE UP NOTICEABLY!!!! It's a small gem nesting in downtown Oxnard, but it has almost everything you need here if you need any Asian grocery. The price is good too. They got all the delicious Asian snacks here. They also sell the tuna and yellowtail sashimi. They are frozen but in a rectangular block. You just need to put it in the fridge overnight and slice them and serve. They are restaurant quality. I love their thin sliced ribeyes for hot pot. Overall, the price is better than other bigger Asian markets around. I definitely recommend it. read more

Again still on R&R, and i've Actually been to Asahi Market in the past, now that i was looking for a particular item, plus was also hoping they might have received some snacks from Little Tokyo, like small bento boxe's, but alas they didn't only a small array of Bakery good's which i swooped up, ( YUM !!! ), so strolling down their narrow isle, ( WoW Asashi has certainly upped their ante and shelves were stocked !!!!!! ) I looked and looked, finally asking for some assistance, but as i turned the corner, YES, i found what i was looking for, my crushed spicy crushed garlic , SCORE, ( my daughter eats them like candy !!!!! ) Man oh man, i swooped up five containers of these delectable oh so smoky spicy crushed garlic, put them on top of a bowl of rice and its Heaven, i swear,....also noted quite a collection of fermented Kim'Chee, In various size's, surely i'll Be back to purchase more great stuff from, Asahi Market in Oxnard, saving myself the drive to DTLA or the West-side ( Culver City ) thanks again Yelp, what a life saver !!!!!!!!! read more

Asahi is a quaint Asian market that has been part of the community for several decades. It's on the small side but is packed with hard to find Asian items. The store has changed ownership and now carries a wider variety of Asian fare, however the basic Japanese items are still in abundant stock. Came in for a specific flour and while we were there, some kids came in to get spicy ramen (which they were well stocked with - see photo!) The prices are reasonable for a lot of items and higher on some, however it is in line with what they should be since it saves you a trip from driving to LA if you live in the area. If you are looking for an asian marketing the Oxnard area, this is it. We have been coming for a few years now and have always been happy on our trips. The place itself is small, but recently they have "expanded" their store. Where before they had their videos at the back of the store, now they have moved all of their kitchen essentials (bowls, soup spoons, chop sticks, tea pots, etc, etc, etc), creating a feeling of better flow in the main/front of the store. From japanese soda pops, candy, crackers to main dishes (noodles, curry paste), even fresh ingredients (think japanese veggies) and sea food. This market makes a perfect spot to get all the stuff you need and won't find at your local Vons. The owners are as nice as they come. If i can't find something, they quickly help me find it. The only thing, I can easily spend $50 on a basket full of stuff i shouldn't be eating, like the giant box of Meiji strawberry crackers i inhaled, haha read more

I came here looking for udon noodles, which Asahi Market had a great selection of. I also found Orion beer, which I was extremely excited about. They also have a good sake selection, and many other beverages. No real gold drinks, but they did have Oi Ocha bottled green tea in their cooler which was nice. Came here to buy melona Popsicles & came out without it & ended up buying ingredients for sushi & my rice, lol! Don't be fooled by the location of this market & how it looks outside. Downtown Oxnard may not have the best looking places but I definitely think this market is a hidden gem. I came in here way more excited than I thought. I was expecting to have to drive into L.A. to find a good Asian grocery, but then I found Asahi Market listed on Yelp! Visited this morning and was blown away by the selection of Asian, especially Japanese, products. So many different kinds of noodles and rice, instant and frozen ramen, sauces, oils, curry and soup mixes. Snacks like crackers, candies, even rice balls. And they have fresh udon and rice noodles in the refrigerator case. This list only scratches the surface! And both the "mom" and "pop" in this shop were incredibly helpful and friendly. My mom and I have been coming to Asahi market for all our Asian grocery needs. It's located on Oxnard Blvd in downtown Oxnard and it's close to where my parents work. It is a bit pricier than LA Asian markets but I wanna support the local businesses and with gas prices going up lately, can't always make that roundtrip to LA. Loving this asian market in the middle of Oxnard who would have thought? I've been driving by this place for years but figured it would be "so out there" for me that I just kept passing by. Well with my taste for asian flavors growing I decided to finally make a pit stop. So glad I did! Reminds me of downtown LA, lots of ancient little markets with the same feel as this one, you can tell it's been around awhile but it gives you that homie feeling. Selection: 4stars! Everything from Poi, Laulau, Malasadas n Mochi with Red Bean plus Arare, Hawaiian Cookies, etc etc. Plus they have a wide variety of tea sets, Japanese bowls, plates, kitchen knife by Seki Ryu Santoku they have them great to use on New Years Eve, they have soo many Japanese/Hawaiian items to purchase. read more

Random stop while wine tasting in Oxnard. This is a cute little market right off the main street. The shelves are filled with all kinds of tasty treats, from choco mushrooms, curry, sauces to shirataki noodles. They had fish and other meats in the back refrigerated section. For such a small shop, they really pack it all in there. Friendly service, when I asked one of the employees for a particular product, he kindly showed me where it was. You do have to spend $10 to use a credit card, but that isn't really hard to do with all the different products to try. read more

Great store to pick up essential Asian goods! My weekly shopping list includes: frozen dumplings, throwback Korean snacks, and a bunch of ramen noodles. They have such an assorted selection. They even have fresh kimchi delivered every week so I'm always stocking up on jars of kimchi and of course rice! I was there and should have spoken up in regards to her blatant stupidity and rude behavior to the staff and customers. She was incorrect as the 10 people limit is an adherence for gatherings and not towards essential grocery stores. I believe grocery stores are not limited so long as people can maintain a safe distance from each other as well as abide to the stores actual capacity. This community sincerely appreciates the fact that you did your best to maintain your shelves and remain open for us.
