Not sure where to go we ended up yelping what was close and once again yelp did not disappointed us. The small restaurant was full but had 2 amazingly fast and caring servers. Kandee greeted us at the door and after a short 3 min wait sat us. We started our meal with sea weed salad and poke. I always try poke anywhere available and this one was simply delicious. My husband has Ramen and hot sake. All delicious! Kandee was always on top of the table and had complete control of the room. The sushi rolls were buy one get one 1/2 so we had 4 rolls. All very tasty, fresh and good amount of ginger on the plate (personal favorite) the wasabi was not as hot as expected but the rolls were so good that we really did not mind that much. Stellar sushi for the price. My favorite in Utah Valley. For the price of one of those kind-of-ok all-you-can-eat places scattered around Orem and Provo, you can get two delicious, fresh specialty rolls. If I could leave no stars I would. Apparently the owners have changed and they don't deserve a penny of what the old place was. I was waiting for over an hour to find out they had a shift change and didn't even put in my order. Not one person checked on me I had to approach and find someone to figure out why I haven't even been updated. After waiting for an hour and a half they weren't apologetic just matter of factly told me they lost my order, charged me in full end sent me on my way. Asahi has a great atmosphere, service and of course sushi. They tend to be busy on the weekends so there can of course be a wait but it's worth it. Visiting from Las Vegas and our friends recommended Asahi. Our group had several specialty rolls, prices were pretty close to what I pay in Vegas. The "comfort" rolls looked cheaper, but we didn't order those. Spider roll was decent but not great. Sweet Jesus was my favorite. Unique flavors in several rolls. Fish and rice were fresh tasting. Children's chicken and noodles dish was the best flavored chicken I've tasted in a long time. Overall, you won't be disappointed with anything you order. Top notch sushi restaurant. read more

Ive gone here a couple of times and have enjoyed it, particuarilly the calamari. The sushi is fresh tasting and well formed. However today I was quite dissapointed when my last bite contained (I kid you not) 6- 7 tiny eel bones. I had eaten most of it and did not want anything in return when I told the waiter. The response was that they where edible..... though I have never in my entire sushi eating life had that happen. My roomate also had some in her sashimi..... needless to say I googled it and surprise, people dont like bones in thier sushi. Went here for lunch. The service was great. They got our orders in within 2 minutes of us walking through the door. Our food was there in less than 10 minutes. I got the chicken lunch special and it was great! Came with teriyaki chicken, rice, a salad and two other things. Some kind of won tons or something like that. We have been going to Asahi for years and we have always loved it. Our friends came in town and we went again and it's really gone down-hill. We were the first people in the restaurant and our waitress did a terrible job. She couldn't keep up with our service even when we were the only once in the restaurant. I ordered the shrimp and scallops pasta which has always been delicious. They sliced the scallops so thin that they were rubber. The sauce does not taste the same. It's like they bought this business and didn't get the original recipes. Anyway... we will not be back. read more

I came here with my sister on the recommendation of yelp as it was the highest rated sushi restaurant in the Orem area. We were most pleasantly surprised by all six rolls that we had. The ambience was a very good, nice and quiet and our server was very attentive. Unbeknownst to us they had a special running which runs every Monday through Thursday from 3 to 10 PM the special is buy one specialty roll get half the next one. We both felt that this was very fresh and the presentation was beautiful and thoughtful. They have an interesting combination of rolls and decided to give a few a try. The sushi is decent, but not worth the visit, and I would be reluctant to recommend this place to anyone for anything other than take out. Truly, don't even bother. TL;DR: Worst service I've had in YEARS, in any state, at any restaurant. Atmosphere sucks. Don't bother actually going here, takeout might be an okay option. The atmosphere is a noisy frat party, and the service is TERRIBLE. Expect to have LOUD rap music pumping through the restaurant, to the point that you can't hold a conversation with anyone at your table. After being seated at a slightly sticky table (gross), my husband and I waited for nearly 20 minutes and were simply not even acknowledged by any staff members. The restaurant was about half full, and all of the other customers were late teens to maybe early 20s. It's a small restaurant, and we sat and watched as every single server walked directly by our table, looked at us both and made eye contact, and walked away.....MULTIPLE times. Probably 3 different staff members walked up to our table as if they were going to come take our drink orders, and then without even a word, just walked off. I finally stopped one of them as they were wiping down the EMPTY table next to us and asked them if they were our server, or if they even knew who was supposed to be. They said "Yeah, oops, I'll go get them." A few more minutes later, a gentleman came over and, without any kind of greeting, said "Do you guys know what you want?" We ordered (2 rolls, 1 nigiri, a drink, and gyoza appetizer), and he nodded and noticeably didn't write anything down or have any pen or paper in his hands.......and then asked us to repeat our order to him 3 more times because he was trying to remember everything we had ordered. I don't think he is normally a server, though, he appeared to maybe be a busser or host. He brought our gyoza out a while later, and said "Yeah sorry these took so long. Your server is Erica but she's been busy." We thanked him, because truly, we would have still been sitting there without acknowledgement from Erica (going on 45 mins at that point) were it not for him. When Erica FINALLY came to our table, it was after we had finished our appetizer, and had been sitting with our empty plates long enough that we had stacked them at the edge of the table and pulled our phones out to text each other because, again, the music was so ridiculously loud. She came and took the gyoza dishes away and said "hey did you guys need anything else? The sushi isn't ready yet though, it'll be a few more minutes." Yeah......no. The sushi itself, when it finally came, was decent. We had been seated for over an hour before it finally arrived, even though the rolls we had ordered were both raw fish rolls that were fairly simple. I don't know if that is the kitchen's fault, or our mostly-absent server. After we ate, we sat and stared at our empty plates AGAIN for several minutes, no sign of our server. By this time, the restaurant was nearly empty, too. She came over finally and said "Are you guys ready for your check? I didn't print it yet, but I can take your card now." I just handed her my card and then, another 10 mins or so later, she finally came back with my tab and credit card slip. Worst service I've had in years. Truly. read more

Needless to say, I was quite pleased to see them still in business and this time, had quite a bit more business when we dropped by. I went during lunch and they have a pretty decent lunch special, but the sushi to me was just ok. Definitely not bad and I would go back here again probably. I got 4 different sushi rolls: Spider, Vegetable Tempura, Funky, and Sweet Jesus (sorry for the blurry picture of them). Out of all 4 rolls, only the Sweet Jesus was amazing, all good, but like other reviews have said you really want to get the Sweet Jesus roll if you come here. My husband got chicken teriyaki which was pretty good. We also got gyoza, which was decent and a molten chocolate cake for dessert, which was very yummy. When I first walked into Asahi and noticed how small and dark it is, at first it was kinda off putting. But then I started to see how clean and how much the little lighting did to help the overall feel for the place. With colored lights inside out the change color at any given time I almost was waiting for techno music to come on and the bass to drop a fat beat. I sat at the counter and told the chef/owner Zula to make me something sexy with allot of spice. And I got just that. This was a thing of beauty. It was so fresh and clean. Its like he read my mind. Asahi servers sushi and a whole lot of class. I will have to dine there during there happy hour sometime. As for now Asahi is my top pic for sushi in Utah county. read more

A few of my co-workers told me about Asahi about a year ago. I love Shoga and they both insisted Asahi was at least as good if not better. I still love Shoga but find myself eating at Asahi more often these days. I think their service is better (at least more consistent - Shoga is hit-or-miss). The prices are comparable but I think Asahi is a better deal because their Sashimi servings are a lot more generous and this is my favorite. I think Asahi and Shoga are the only places to get decent sushi in Utah County. They are also the only two places where I've been able to find spider rolls (soft shell crab rolls) - they are delicious and cheap since they aren't considered specialty rolls. If I have one complaint it is that sometimes the sashimi is served too cold. I like it a bit chilled but when it has an icy center that's just too much - I've had this happen twice at Asahi but everything else is so good I continue coming back for more :) read more

Never been disappointed by Asahi. I have tried 10-15 different rolls over the last year or so and every single one is excellent. Service is usually great although when they get busy at lunch time orders can take a little longer. They have a great selection, probably about 30-40 options, so I'll be going back a few more times before I know which ones are my absolute favorites. read more

Called Asahi about 1 hour before their closing time and asked if they would accommodate a party of 12-16 they gracious said" Come on down!" I have loved getting sushi here for a long time! I am a college student in the area so late night sushi is by far my favorite. They have the best late night menu for the most amazing prices!! I love the people that work here too! Ryann and Kristy (don't know if I spelled their names right) are amazing, they always are so friendly and know me and my fiancé by name! We usually go in big groups and they are so awesome about giving us awesome service even when it is insanely busy. Which it does get crazy busy, that is the only downside, the college students all come at one time on fridays and saturdays when the menu is cheap, so sometimes it is hard to get seated but the sushi is well worth it, I'm getting married and am moving from the area but we will keep coming back because of the amazing sushi.
