The first time I went in the place looked very nice and minimal though it was empty. Which probably means they get more busy during the night time. I ordered their gyoza as an appetizer and their Funky Sushi Roll. The gyoza was good being hot and juicy. As for the funky roll it was nice though I must say that it had way too much batter on it that I couldn't taste the fish itself. It was also very hefty and big that I have to bite it in half. Even though the service and waitress were fast and humble the food really wasn't. I would say the sushi experience was quite average compared to the other sushi places I've been to. read more

Food was good. I ordered fried ice cream with fresh berries (per menu), only to it without fresh berries. When I brough this up, the waitress went to look at the menu, only to find out that it actually did say that fresh berries were a part of the item. They simply told me that the menu hadn't been updated and did not offer concessions. When I asked for a discount, they gave me $1 off from a $10 item. This was disappointing. It's a little more dinner and bar vibes, with a darker dining room than what you would find in a fast casual restaurant, which worked for us because we wanted a quieter space so we could catch up. This also helped it be a little less busy. The food itself was delicious, but I'm not usually too picky with my sushi rolls and will eat most of any roll. I did like that they had a pretty extensive menu though. Our server, Soko, was so sweet and attentive. She even asked us about dessert and we got the most amazing molten chocolate cake! Came here for lunch on a Saturday with a friend. The restaurant only had one group of two when we arrived at 12:30pm. We were greeted by the waitress who took us to our table and asked for our drink order. I ordered the calamari to start with and two sushi rolls, the Xanax and the heart attack. All of my food came out at the same time so it was kind of disappointing to see that the calamari came out with the sushi and I couldn't enjoy it before my sushi came out. The heart attack roll was not spicy at all. I was disappointed that it wasn't hot and had no kick. It did have a good general flavor overall but I would've ordered to Vegas instead. The Xanax wasn't anything special. It was just okay. It almost has a sour taste to it which I'm not sure where that came from. The Poki Tuna was standout though- every bite was a perfect bite of flavorful tuna, mango, and avo! Now, the rolls- they are massive! Asahi has the best Vegas roll we have ever had! It was fried just enough to have a crispy exterior but not enough to cook the salmon. Amazing! Other A + rolls were the Lion King (farthest right of the 3), the Crispy, and the Xanax (the one topped with salmon)! Give us alllll the raw tuna and salmon and we will be happy. Of course we had to finish the meal with Mochi! We can't believe we haven't tried this tasty sushi place before! Our whole group enjoyed our time at Asahi! The ambiance was lively and I will say the space is on the small end so tables are a little close to each other. If you're looking for an intimate setting, it may not be the best option for you unless you request a booth. We called in about 39 minutes before we came in and they seated us immediately which was great. The table ordered yakisoba which was a great large portion for one person- easily shareable. We also ordered the Playboy roll, Sweet Yuzu, Xanax, hamachi yellowtail, and they were all great! We are of course in a landlocked state but we did feel like the fish was good quality! We enjoy coming here on weeknights when it's not too busy. No bars nearby, so this is a good happy hour spot if you live close. Open late on weekends. Smaller location with limited seating. Would not consider this place swanky/fancy for a first date, but awesome place to stop and get some quality sushi. All rolls that were not tempura fried were cold and solid and had the feel and taste of sushi made and sat in the fridge for hours first - it didn't taste made to order. I love sushi but this place was just OK for me. We ordered four different rolls which included the Paris, super dragon, crunchy tuna, and green tiger rolls. I thought I had ordered the green tiger roll and that's what I was charged for but that's not what I received. I'm not sure what my fourth roll was. I liked the Paris roll with the mango but the other rolls were just OK. The crunchy tuna roll used imitation crab which in my opinion makes a sushi roll taste cheap and artificial. It looks like they've changed the menu from what other yelper have written about so maybe they're just trying to get used to this new menu. We ordered the rainbow roll and super dragon. Gotta get that sashimi and eel the rolls in general are okay. The rice is hard and chewy, the texture isn't right. The amount of sashimi is pre good for an American restaurant. Also the rolls are not consistent all the way through. For example one piece will have avocado whilst a piece in thw middle will not. My wife and I eat Sushi quite often. At least 4 times/ month. We have dine in and take out, and I believe we are conesieurs of sushi. We have been to Asahi at least a dozen times. This time, I could not believe my eyes when my wife brought home the sushi!! We ordered 5 rolls and 2 orders of nigiri. When I looked at the rolls and even the nigiri, it was literally 1/2 the size of normal sushi that we have ordered in hundreds of sushi restaurants in the country! We paid $90.00 for our meal, and we did not even have any leftovers, which normally we have at least a roll leftover!! Their rolls in the past have been generally pretty fresh and tasty. This time, at least one of the rolls was fishy tasting. I called to let them know about my experience, and a young woman answered who could barely speak English. She listened to me, and everything I told her she tried to relay it to her manager/ owner? She told me that she would put the manager on the phone, but now, after waiting on hold for 1 hour and 33 minutes, I am going to hang up and leave this review. Are you kidding me?!!
