Bloomsberry and Fleeting Youth

We finally had the chance to check out Ash & Elm in Carmel, IN -- and honestly, it was pretty mid. I've always loved their ciders, but the dine-in experience fell short. It felt like we were forgotten about shortly after sitting down, likely because there was an event happening in the back. I ordered the Fish & Chips, keeping things soft since I just had my wisdom teeth out, but for $21 I expected something a bit less greasy and more satisfying. My husband had the Mediterranean Bowl and said it was good, but definitely something we could've made at home. Overall, I'll always be a fan of their cider, but probably won't return to the in-person locations -- the food just doesn't feel worth the price. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space itself is modern, clean, and full of pink and plant accents, and our server was kind, so at least the atmosphere was nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Went to eat at Ash and Elm Cider this afternoon. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside on their patio. I ordered the fish and chips which was really good. It's made with a cornmeal batter which is a nice change of pace. Our server was amazing and patient. Looking forward to going back and trying some of their other menu items.

If you live on the Northside and have been lamenting the drive to Ash & Elm in Indy, your prayers have been answered! The new location in Carmel is just as wonderful as the original restaurant. All the same cider options, plus wonderful flights not just of ciders but of mimosas and Bellinis. And the food options are varied and delicious. We sampled across the menu, and no one was disappointed. Oh, and just this location and not to be missed: cheese curds! And a shout out, too, to the incredible staff. The server overheard me say I wasn't the biggest fan of ciders, and he colluded with the bartender to bring me 3 cider samples he thought I might like. And he was right! They are delicious! But more so, where .else do you get such attentive service?

Cider brined chicken

I'm a little torn on this one. I absolutely love their cider and our server was super nice and helpful, but I just wasn't crazy about the food. I got the cider brined chicken and thought it was just okay. I preferred it drowned in the dipping sauce. We also ordered French toast sticks with pumpkin dip, but the sticks were still a little doughy on the inside. Our server was super apologetic and took the French toast sticks off our bill, which was great. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I'm just not sure I'd recommend this place on the food or ambience alone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will be back for the cider though!

Cider flight

My husband and I met my sister and BIL here for lunch a couple weekends ago. The host was funny and personable, but our server... not so much. I'm not sure if he was new to the job or just maybe isn't extroverted enough to be a server, but he was not very friendly and hardly checked on us, despite us being seated right by the bar. He also only served 2/4 drink orders and then left to go assist people that had just walked in with their drinks before coming back nearly 10 minutes later to give the other 2 their drink order. We ordered our food and he did not come back to check on us until halfway through eating. No one cleared any empty plates or cider flights from our table during our visit besides my husband's cider flight, while he was still drinking from it. At the end of our meal we had no drinks and no water and our server came over to see if we wanted anything else after we had sat around for a while. We decided to just leave and go somewhere else because the service sucked so bad. We said we didn't want anything else and he responded "so you guys are just hanging out here?" No?? We need to pay our bill and leave. It was just really odd. Seems like a great space and would have loved to stay for another drink, but our server made the trip to this location unpleasant. The patio outside is beautiful, so I would consider coming back when it's warmer out to drink outside and give it another chance.

This is a cute little tap house. There's a lot of different seating options, but it is small over all. The service was a bit slow at first, but then it got better and the bartenders were great! The bartenders were bringing drinks to people at tables so that slowed them down a bit. The food looked amazing, but we just got apps. The pretzels were standard, and the cheese curds were so good, but some were overcooked and empty shells and it was a bit of a greasy mess. The ciders were all great! We each had 2 flights which were an awesome deal. The flavors were a nice range and there was something for everyone. I would 100% go back!

This was really my first cider experience and it did not disappoint. Jordan took care of me and my friends from the moment we stepped in. Greeted us very kindly, quickly got us seated, and gave great recommendations. We ended up trying the flights. The seasonal flight is an absolute must if you love Fall. The separate Chocolate Covered Sunset drink is a perfect dessert in a glass. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Was able to sit out on the patio on a comfortable night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Warm string lighting and very attentive service made this a great stop on girls night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Thank you Jordan!

The kindness and care of this team is greatly appreciated!! The food is great, the food is safe, and we always have the best meal. Our server, Kelsey, told us it was only her second day waiting tables but you couldn't tell. She was knowledgeable and on time. Friendly but never intrusive. It was a great meal and the new gluten free cheesecake is a must! Extra shout out to Brynn the GM for stopping by and hearing our thoughts and going. Above and beyond to take care of us We will be back!!

Regular cider flight
Karyn S.

It was fun to try several ciders in one seating. 3/6 of us got the seasonal flight, which they all enjoyed. I had the regular, which was very good. One at our table had the blood red cider which was excellent and the last one in our group created a custom flight. I'd go for the cider alone. Food was okay - will not be the draw next time. Braised chicken sandwich was more like pulled pork, I just wasn't expecting that style - 6/10. My husband got the steak sandwich and rated it about a 6/10. Cheese curd appy was beer battered. Maple and bacon brussels sprouts were tasty! Best part of the meal. It's local and I like to support those small businesses and will go just for the cider.

Southwest bowl

First time at Ash & Elm Cider and I loved the experience! Our waitress was super friendly and prompt. She was actually the one to seat us so she got us drinks right away. We ordered a Cider flight, cheese curds, Caesar salad with chicken and the southwest bowl. Everything was amazing, but the cheese curds blew me away. Probably some of the best cheese curds I've ever had! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Fast service, friendly and super nice atmosphere.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Will be back for sure!

I have been to ash and elm a few years ago downtown and kept meaning to check them out now that they are closer. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We came here on a Sunday afternoon and sat immediately (although you can also make reservations for potentially busier times on open table) we sat inside but there is a huge patio that looks like it would be nice and fun to enjoy in warm weather![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Henry was our server and he was super friendly and able to provide great recommendations. He told us you are allowed to try 2, 1 oz samples for free so tried the sauv blanc cider (made with Daniel's vineyard wine) and fleeting youth. Both good but sauv blanc wine too try for me- might actually be better as a cidermosa! Fleeting youth was decent but a little too much lemon for me. I ended up making my own flight and liked each one. Sunset (year round flavor) is something I've had before and still enjoyed. Also tried purple pride, blueberry, and a blackberry one. All enjoyable! My favorite ended up being something my husband order, Del Camino. The pineapple notes went perfect with the burger of the month that I ordered- 2 patties with cheese, tomato, jalapeño, grilled pineapple, and side of fries. Fries were basic but extra flavor with the garlic aioli. I would get this whole meal again!! Burger was juicy with good flavor and I liked the combo of sweet and spicy toppings but unfortunately it was only for the month of June. We also did get a side of chips and salsa- very basic and fine, but salsa reminds me of what you can buy at a grocery store so I would opt for a different appetizer next time. Everyone seemed to be ordering the cheese curds around us and those looked fantastic. Overall great experience and will come back!

GF fried chicken sandwich
Jared M.

5/5 for Super nice servers who were very helpful with any question regarding their ciders, which is nice because they have quite the selection. They allow two 1oz samples to help you decide. Ended up getting a flight, which was customized. Enjoyed all the ciders I tried. Good quality. Definitely come here for the cider! Unfortunately the food today was maybe 2/5. The chips and salsa were basic and good. The gluten free fried chicken sandwich was unfortunately a disappointment. When I browsed the menu from home before coming I saw the gf sandwich and knew I wanted it...but it was nothing like I imagined. The sandwich was very very greasy/oily likely from whatever thick/crispy breading they use for gf and maybe the bread with butter? It is an additional $2 for the gf bread which was confusing since the sandwich is marked as (gf). The side of fries were good but nothing too special. With this said though, I'm excited to just try a different entree next time. My wife got the seasonal burger and loved it and would get it again! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I will definitely come back for more cider and the friendly staff and atmosphere and highly recommend it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

GF Chocolate Brownie

As a symptomatic celiac, most of the time, my reviews are concerned with the safety of an eatery, and if the fare happens to be pleasing, well that's a bonus (if you've been around GF buns for a while you'll appreciate that!). Well let's forget about the fact that this place is recognized by the National Celiac Assoc'n of America... the food is just plain great! We had GF fish and chips and the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Both were outstanding. I got 2 huge chunks of battered cod with homemade tartar sauce. And the gf toast for the chicken sandwich was wonderfully soft. Our one disappointment was that our fries (gf fryer) came cold. To their credit, the staff apologized and brought out a huge bowl of hot ones! And to say sorry, also brought a most yummy hot GF brownie with vanilla ice cream! Food: stellar. Service: outstanding! Very pleased to recommend this place!!

We were in the Indianapolis area for a tennis tournament and heard great things about Carmel. Once…read morewe were there we happened upon Fat Dan's Deli. The building facade is unassuming in a strip mall off the main drag in Carmel. Inside, the place oozed character. We love dive bars and Fat Dan's is an original. The place is a dive but in the best sense of the word. The interior is worn but everything was clean and inviting. The staff were warm and welcoming. We sat in a booth with tattered seats and a wobbly table and we loved it!! We ordered breadsticks, a Cuban sandwich, wings and fries. Before I describe the food, I have to write about the way they deliver the food. I saw one of the staff bring out this boat of food wrapped in white paper to a table near us and thought that was an order of a specific type that warranted such a delivery. When I asked our waitress about it she smiled and said that was how she was going to bring out our food. It's a little thing but we thought it was unique and just added to the feel of the place. A few minutes later we received our food in a white paper boat and it was awesome. The breadsticks were good; the nacho cheese wasn't the best. The coleslaw was a hit with my wife and son. The Cuban sandwich was really good. The chicken wings were outstanding! The wings are smoked and meaty...and the blue cheese dressing that came with it was delicious. The waitress told us that they make the blue cheese in house and I believe her. The fries were tasty- our waitress was right in saying that a small order would feed a family. We did our best but there was no way we were finishing anything. The portions are large.;) All in all, we had a great meal in a unique place with really friendly staff. Thanks, Fat Dan's!!!

I proceeded to have a seat at the bar as the patron to my left commented that I was grossly overdressed for this establishment. He wasn't wrong, but a girl needed some food! I ordered the smoked wings and a side of fries. I chose water to drink because I wasn't in the mood for anything else. BEST WINGS ANS FRIES!!! TWO THUMBS UP! The wings and fries are perfection. No sauce necessary. I tried the teriyaki but it wasn't to my liking and the wings don't require anything extra. They are perfection straight outta the kitchen as served on butcher paper. The fries are probably the best fries I have ever eaten. Seriously. I'm a fry connoisseur - I know my way around a fried potato! Best part: the price! They are priced appropriately. Portions size is great. Hearty wings, not lil wing dings. I only did 6 wings, but next time I'll do the full 12 and take some home. Better than Ale Emporium - argue with ya mamma, not me! I said what I said. Go Bears....Blackhawks...Bulls...Sky... it's a Chicago themed bar, so I'm sure you can find fans enjoying the games here. I'll be back! See you there!

Yesterday, I decided that I would not be cooking dinner and instead opted to order pizza and dessert to be picked up on my way home. This is such a cute, quaint little shop located in a tiny strip mall next to a gas station. So very unassuming, yet quite impressive. I loved the two cute yellow tables and chairs out on the sidewalk as well as the Sinatra that was playing when I entered the shop. I was greeted warmly and let me say how much I value a pleasant and genuine interaction like that. Someone came to the front of the store from the kitchen in the back, and she too greeted me with a very welcoming and warm smile. This fact alone makes me want to return and support this place of business. My pizzas were prepared fresh and handed to me hot out of the oven. The deserts, an assortment of 3 different kinds of cookies as well as two slices of cake, were kept separate and cold. My husband loved the pizza (he is somewhat of a connoisseur) and I enjoyed it as well. The carrot cake was a bit dense for my liking and the pistachio ricotta was decadent. My husband really enjoyed these sweet treats as a night cap! I loved the cookies. I ordered the Peanut Butter Brownie Swirl cookie, the Pistachio Chocolate Crunch cookie, and two of the Pistachio Thumbprint cookies. My personal favorite was the Pistachio Chocolate Crunch cookie. It had a great contrast in texture with the soft-baked cookie being perfectly complemented by the crunch of the pistachio pieces, and it wasn't overly sweet. I'll definitely be back to try more cookies, cakes and pastries in the future! They also carry some authentic imported Italian products, such as pomodoro sauce.

I was craving a sub, but in my rush to order before a work meeting, I mistakenly ordered a half sandwich. When I say sandwich, I mean meat and cheese between two slices of multi-grain bread...AND cut in half! I was so upset with myself. Not only did it not satisfy my craving, but the bread was slightly soggy. It was quite literally falling apart - maybe from the oil and vinegar if that was still included. So, I wound up taking the meat, cheese and banana peppers (it was a Grilled Italian) off of the bread and eating it with my fingers. Sans bread. The Sweet Tea and Fresh Cut Fries saved me that day. I love Penn Station subs, and it wasn't their fault that I ordered the incorrect sandwich, but it did leave me wondering why they even sell those types of sandwiches to begin with.
