We had a lovely time at Blind Owl tonight. The service was great... our server was prompt, pleasant, accurate and friendly. The beer was a nice smooth stout that was delicious. The wings were very good... & I'm not a huge fan of buffalo wings. The chipotle dry rub was fantastic paired with the ranch sauce. The tenderloin sandwich may have been one of the best I've ever had. It was perfectly breaded, & so thick. It was also twice the size of my bun ... which is exactly how it's supposed to be. Fries were pretty good & plentiful. My SO ordered the crab cakes sandwiches and it looked good ... it disappeared quickly. I forgot to take pictures of the food before it was eaten. Went for Mother's Day and had a wonderful time! I'm not sure if it was because it was Mother's day, but kids were able to play in the Bocce ball and Corn hole area (despite sign that says yard games being for 18 years and older). Stopped in to get a fried pork sandwich for lunch. We were greeted with the most friendly and happy server I have ever had. She made us immediatly feel welcome. Not really sure what to expect when you pull into a strip and there's a brewery with blacked out windows and a wide open parking lot... Lots of beer options (and other drinks if you're not feeling like beer)! The decor was pretty fitting for the season. The food was pretty decent, the fried onions were absolutely delicious. The Cuban was very hefty, so I ended up not being able to finish it. If I had to sum up my experience it was - okay. Service was fine, kind of impersonal but everything we ordered was correct and came out timely so I can't complain. The food itself was also okay, I got the mushroom and Swiss burger. Food was hot and we didn't wait ages for it to come out but wasn't really anything to write home about. Fries could have used a little seasoning, they were crispy but a good seasoning would have made them memorable. The beer was good, no complaints there. It has been several years since my last review update on Blind Owl Brewery, a pub-style setting that I continue to patronize on a regular basis even though I continue to be baffled by its hit-and-miss dining and dining experience that seems to always fall just shy of its potential. Blind Owl is located at 62nd and Binford Boulevard. The rather large strip center is ideally located for just such a restaurant. Blind Owl has the end of the building and offers a comfortable dining area, a nice and expansive bar area (with open-air potential), and a rather large outdoor area that also offers gaming potential. It's all comfortable and nice. The dining area and the outdoor area are both family friendly. Accessibility is decent enough, though it seems like I inevitably have to look for an accessible spot a few doors down. Curb cuts are appropriate. There's a double doorway that's workable. The hosting area is nearly always utilized these days. I've had several of the meals here and I've lamented that the beloved roasted red potatoes offered in their early days are now off the menu. While there are soup and salad options, there's no denying the menu leans heavily toward traditional bar fare now. They offer a variety of burgers - frequently a choice for me, though I've also gone for the pizza, the tenderloin, and the chicken tenders before. I've long wanted to love Blind Owl. It's close to my home. The food is good. The atmosphere is winning. The service is for the most part decent to good. The snag here tends to be that the service leans more functional than personal and there's detached little touches that always seem to bother me. Tonight was a good example. While I realize that not every restaurant does something for your birthday, as a regular customer who has spent quite a bit of time and money in your restaurant this just felt really flat to me. I wasn't looking for a huge splurge, but I identified it was my birthday and wanted a little something sweet. The Brookie was identified - noting that any part of it could be offered. I identified the brownie and figured that would be a nice special treat. When it arrived, it was a single cookie that looked like it came out of a Chips Ahoy bag. $4 for a cookie. A single cookie. "Happy Birthday." Honestly? That was tacky. It was cheap. It was tacky. It sure didn't make me feel like a valued customer. There was no explanation why I didn't get a brownie. It just all felt very hollow. I dunno. The food was fine. I ordered the all-star with tater tots. It was perfectly fine. However, I basically spent $25 with tip as I've done many times. Maybe just a little sense of welcome would have made this a lot better? This came on the heels of another awkward experience here that I won't go into extensively here, however, between both experiences I'm starting to wonder why I'm spending my hard-earned cash here. There's a Sahm's within a mile. There's a George's Neighborhood Grill less than a mile up the street. I "choose" to come here. Nights like tonight make me wonder why. Awful? No. Good? No. This whole thing left me feeling sort of "meh." You don't get 4-stars for a meh experience. So, I'm dropping my rating a star again and hoping at some point Blind Owl gets back to the way it used to be and the way it seemed headed for quite a while. Will I return? Most likely. I recently hosted a resident event here & was impressed with the level of service I received. I was able to get in touch with their events coordinator who was very responsive & answered any of my questions professionally. We were expecting anywhere from 25-30 people. Our event started at 6:00pm & when I arrived at 5:45p they were prepared for our big party. We reserved the bar area which had dim lighting & there were TV's in the bar to catch a game. I would say the food was just okay. Not bad but nothing to write home about. We had wings and pizza for our guests. The wings were okay but I was not a fan of the buffalo sauce or ranch. The ranch tastes like dill ranch which I'm not a huge fan of. The pizza got cold because they didn't have any warmers to keep it warm after they sat it out, which was a little disappointing. Overall, we had a great time! Our waitress Jessica did an awesome job of controlling our large party and getting things we needed diligently. We love a family-friendly neighborhood restaurant, which is what Blind Owl delivers! We brought our baby along for our last visit and the staff did a good job making sure we felt comfortable and welcomed. I like that there are plenty of seating options inside including bar seating, high tops, and large tables for groups. In the summer they have a great patio area with big umbrellas to block the sun and outdoor games including corn hole and bocce ball. If you're looking for recommendations from the expansive menu, the Chipotle Chicken Sandwich is delicious and keeps me coming back. Pro tip: you can also order it as a wrap! read more

Went with a very large group; many of us got beer flights to sample the in-house brews. Not my favorite; I found a number of the blind owl brews a bit unbalanced/overhopped, and somewhat insipid. They do have a list of "guest brews" from other breweries, and I had a couple of sour ales that were refreshing and pleasing. I also asked for a plain margarita with lime or lemon juice instead of sweet and sour; I got dilute lime juice from concentrate. Not drinkable. Ah well. (For the record: 1 part fresh lime, 1 part Cointreau, 2 parts tequila, salt rim, on the rocks. No club soda.) Had a Cuban sandwich... ish. It had smoked pulled pork on it, as well as ham, served as a panino. I should have added mustard to it; it was tasty but a tad dry. Fries were, alas, a bit overdone. Everyone who got them loved the tater tots; I didn't get to try them. Ambience is ordinary bar, nothing fancy. Chairs aren't comfortable for an extended stay. The one real standout: our server. We've been coming to BOB for years. The food is great. I give them that. This evening, however, was an absolute customer service disaster. My wife ordered over the phone for pick-up, as we usually do. When she gets there, she was told there was no order. Ok, so she placed the order again and she was given a "puck" and waited. Puck went off. She gave it to the person at the counter and they disappeared into the back. The person then came back out and ignored/did not even acknowledge my wife or our order. My wife asked the manager what the status was and was told "the person must have hit the wrong button, I'll go check on the order". No apology. No acknowledgement. Unfortunately the evening didn't go as planned. Management was very confrontational. Our party size was having dinner and drinks( you know supporting a local establishment & the staff ). When our party size increased the management only solution was "I'm shutting you down". When we offered to expand our group to other open tables, after all we were all eating and drinking he said no and repeated you are shut down. Mind you not one person was acting foolish or bothering other customers. When we weren't "shutting it down" fast enough he came at me aggressively telling me to have every cash out now. I simply told him no he can tell them I'm not doing his job for him. If he want to ruin their night he can do it. Many were still eating and drinking prior to the manager ruining the evening and were not prepared to pay until they were finished. Such ashame this establishment was being ran by an incompetent manager that wanted to seek conflict vs being a problem solver. Our two servers were great and this 1 star review is not reflective of their service. If the manager skills were half of the serves things could have gone much smoother with a better outcome for the brewery & our party. On a beautiful, sunny Monday, our family of four stopped in for dinner. We sat outside in their great outdoor space, which had lots of shade and different yard games to play. We had to wait a little bit before anyone came to check in with us, but when she walked over, she had ice water for all of us. Despite being outside, we received good service and had no issues with bugs. We all enjoyed the classic food we ordered. Yes! Come here! Anytime of the year. This is a favorite place for me and a group of friends to meet up. The food is good, the staff is friendly and professional, the beer is good - and "homemade". On my last visit, my wife and I came vs. going with a group. We were looking for a place to have some appetizers and a drink and both said "Blind Owl!" Finally visited Blind Owl for the first time back in September. The service was quick and the food was good with good portions . I had the "hoot mess" burger, which was very tasy and would recommend. The layout of the building is great. Theres a large outdoor area with tables, firepits, and cornhole . The reason I'm not giving more stars is the atmosphere. Despite being a brewery, they allow kids. This combined with the nice outdoor area makes an environment where people bring their kids and let them run loose while the adults drink and socialize. This is the main reason my friend and I opted to sit at the bar instead outside despite the great weather. The bar is near the doors to the outside area which were left open for the weather. We could hear and see lots of screaming. Some kids were running between occupied tables, including tables that didn't seem to be part of their group. Even inside the restaurant, there were a few tables with kids being rather disruptive. I understand wanting to appeal to multiple demographics and being family friendly. However, theres a point where it felt like having a drink in a daycare. Blind Owl should consider having seperate days or hours where they are family friendly and 18+/ adults only the rest of the time. read more

Random location but great patio! We came on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. The patio has jumbo umbrellas that provide amazing shade and with a little breeze it was the perfect spot to enjoy a cold beer. They have bags and bocce ball courts that looked fun but were mostly entertainment for the kids. I got a mango beer and my husband got a lager, and both really liked the beers We split the cubano sandwich with fries. It was okay, everything tasted like it has been heated up which is typically the case with most of the cubano ingredients. Maybe it was a bad order. Typically, I love this establishment. The wait is always a little long, but it's never that bad which is why we always allow that to not stop us from coming back. We had our in-laws in town today and decided to come in for dinner. We got here around 650/7p and waited til about 8p to get our food. Our server was excellent, but the wait was too long considering that two tables around us got their food well before we did. One table got there at the same time as we did and they were able to eat their meal, pay, and leave while we still waited for our food. The food itself is good and the place is nice inside. I always expect a longer wait than normal here no matter if it's busy or not, but today was overboard. Had a couple of very good beers VII Kings and VII Sons. Got the kid a personal pepperoni pizza (he ate it all), the wife had Al American Burger (she found it to be very good), while I had the breaded tenderloin. My boyfriend and I had a great experience here. Our server was great. She explained the beer menu in detail and we shared a flight before deciding on some pours. Overall we liked 3/4 beers that we tried. For dinner I had the chicken tinga tacos. Very flavorful. They were served with a side of chips and salsa. I really only ate the chips because the salsa tasted like ketchup to me. My boyfriend had a burger that he really enjoyed. For his side he chose the roasted potatoes.
