This place, formerly called Saigon Bistro, is now called Asian Bistro. We stopped in to try out their offerings. We tried their PHO and PAD THAI dishes --- both excellent --- as were the Shrimp Spring Rolls. The offerings via the menu present a more diverse and broader range of foods --- more South East Asian overall. What we find odd is the ratings attributed to the former Saigon Bistro are attributed to this new restaurant. This is confusing. This spot was just up the street from our Airbnb so we stopped in for a bite before check in. I wasn't super hungry and it was towards the end of lunch time but we had to kill some time before we could check in an unpack. I find it nice and comforting when it is clear that many other patrons to a small restaurant are obviously regulars. There wouldn't be regulars if a place wasn't good! That said, my meal was mostly kind of meh. I got the Vietnamese crepe, which is more like an omelet, and I think I just ordered something that didn't hit my palate right. My guy was happy with his meal (pho), but I found mine a little bland and wanting. I am sure other things would have been better, I just chose the wrong thing to order. I have been waiting to try this place for some time instead of driving to Pooler. It's a hole in the wall kinda spot and family friendly. Then service was really good. I was disappointed in the pho though. I had the meatballs and shank. You get a shit ton of noodles and not enough meat. It downed in meatballs and a little piece of shank. The only place for authentic Vietnamese food in the Savannah area, that I know of. The outside looks like a place I wouldn't frequent, but inside is clean and exactly how I want my Vietnamese restaurant to look. I've been on the hunt for a good bun bowl since moving down to the Savannah area. There's a place in pooler that kind of hits the spot, and another place in Savannah that almost satisfied my craving, but Saigon Bistro is the best so far. They've won some "best in Savannah" awards over the years, congrats to them! We ordered a Vietnamese crepe (not pictured, was too hungry!), bun bowl, bahn-mi, and bubble tea. The prices are reasonable and the flavors are delicious. I am used to ordering a convo bun bowl from other places, this did not have that option. I'm also used to the noddles being a bit more thin, and having a bit more in my salad bowl, but that wasn't the case either (hence 4 stars instead of 5). The bahn-mi was so good! And the taro milk tea was made very well. The Vietnamese crepe was so good, and fun to eat (we rolled it up in the lettuce and added the herbs and dipped it in the fish sauce). Service was great! Our waiter was helpful and attentive. It wasn't too busy on Sunday during lunch time, and the parking in the back may get full depending on time of day, but this is a great spot to eat some authentic Vietnamese food. Overall that was just okay but that's what I get for trying to order safe rather than what they're known for. Thai tea was too leafy herbal flavor not the Thai tea I'm used to. When I lived in Savannah I used to love this place. I mean yes the outside looks like an abandoned establishment and the glass door has been cracked and broken forever and not fixed but hey it's the food I want. I got the summer roll, spring roll; and pho. The veggies were all dead I could live with that. I have never been a fan of their peanut sauce it looks like someone spit a loogy in it always therefore I refrain from it but the kicker this time was I use fish sauce im Thai so I like to add things to My noodles the fish sauce had bugs in it I get it happens sometimes to fish sauce but no not in a restaurant yuck. Wow. What can I say? This place is amazing! A little bit of a hole in the wall located across the street from Baldinos on Waters. I've passed this place many times and never really noticed them. I love that their marquee reads "Eat Healthy Eat Here" We started with the shrimp spring rolls with peanut sauce. I'm not a big fan of spring rolls primarily because of the texture so I opted out but the way my date devoured them let me know it was pretty delicious. Haha. After browsing the menu which had TONS of options we both decided on the pho. Chicken for me and seafood for him. The food came out super quick and was piping hot. Just how I like it. I immediately dived in and was not disappointed. The flavors were over the top. The noodles perfectly cooked and the broth was perfection. I was tempted to order another one to go. That's how satisfied I was with my food. If you've never tried pho it's a must. You will not be disappointed. They also serve boba tea which I plan on trying the next time I visit. Your average Pho spot, tucked away from the downtown. They have the regulars, especially the combo pho, which is my go to. It's not in the menu, but it's called the all-in-one. Their pho bowls are $12 and you can add 3 ingredients. (Tendon, tripe, flank, brisket, meatball, etc) I had their combo pho, Thai tea and Vietnamese egg rolls. Been searching for my favorite pho place in Savannah, so I've been trying the same things to see how they compare. This pho broth was pretty good but there wasn't much of it. There was a ton of rice noodles. Minimal chicken that had a weird consistency - kinda mushy. The pho was served with a generous plate of basil, cilantro, bean sprouts, lime and jalapeno. The spring roll wrapper was incredibly chewy and had not much shrimp in it. The peanut dipping sauce was a thinner consistency. The restaurant appeared to be clean and service was fast and friendly. I literally came back 2 days in a row lol the pho broth had so much bold flavor ( how pho SHOULD taste) and the meat was very tender and tasty. I ordered the beef, brisket, and flank pho for only $11!! Very affordable prices. I also had a shrimp spring roll and the pork egg rolls, you could tell their rolls are homemade which is what I appreciate the most but flavors were awesome also. I was coming back from Hilton head and needed a pit stop for some grub. I was wanting a Viet ice coffee for my travels so I decided to check out Saigon bistro since it was not too far out of my way and seems like one of the few viet places around that's opened on a Monday. I tried out their hu tieu and the broth was good but I've hooked up better packet hu tieu before. It comes with the sweetened pork, 2 shrimp, and some imitation crab bits. I think their pho is probably better since that's what most others around me ordered. They also had banh xeo which I was curious about but didn't order. They're for sure an authentic Vietnamese restaurant and seem to have good business on a Monday afternoon, I probably didn't order the winners on the menu. I ordered a ice coffee too which wasn't a hit for me. The good was that it was made fresh to order but it was still warm or something when the ice was put in so it tasted like milky water and I didn't really taste the coffee. Overall, Saigon bistro will fulfill that fix for sure but that's all, in my opinion. Not good or bad, I left not hungry. read more

Strawberry Smoothie - the only one on the menu that uses fresh strawberries. For all other flavors, they used powder. This was the worst strawberry smoothie ever. We returned it and they made another. 2nd one was slightly better but unworthy of being called a smoothie. 2. Thai Ice Tea - so bad. We took only 1 sip. 3. Vietnamese Coffee- not sure what cheap coffee ground they used but it was not good. 4. Chicken curry - terrible. 5. Pho - kinda eatable with lots of hoisin and Sciracha sauce. 6. Bun Bo Hue - spicy beef bowl - don't know how this dish is as they forgot about it. Grilled pork Banh Mi sandwich was okay so we ordered a 2nd one as a replacement for the missing beef noodle bowl. 2nd sandwich was absolutely terrible. It was done in a hurry - bread was not toasted. This has been my place to go since I moved to Savannah 6 years ago. Is a well known place for locals, not even close to the tourist areas, unless being at the hospital can be a tourist spot. She saw we have little kids and I told her to give me extra containers to eat at the hotel. Therefore, she decided to let us stay to finish our meal without me even asking! The 1st time we ordered, the size was small for the amount we paid, so this time we asked if we could make it a large and we were told we could do an XL so we did. Pad Thai was extremely dry and flavorless. There were were four slivers of chicken about the size of a quarter. No sauce at all -- it was just a Styrofoam box full of cooked spaghetti noodles with nothing on it. The menu says it's topped with peanuts, photo on their menu shows it topped with peanuts, but mine -- no peanuts. Not a single one. Shame on them for calling this Pad Thai. The other dish was lemongrass chicken. I've cooked with lemongrass many times -- used to grow lemongrass on my patio -- there was no lemongrass in this dish at all. This was a whole lot of rice with a very small portion of stuff that's supposed to be lemongrass chicken with zero lemongrass and very little chicken. This was my first time ordering here. There was a Vietnamese place in SF that I loved, and I was hoping to find a Vietnamese place here in Savannah. What I found was another failure of a restaurant that is now in the "never again" category. read more

My hubby and I used to like eating here but we won't go back. I ordered veggie pho with tofu but it was pretty much noodles with water. Literally one piece of carrot one piece of cabbage and two ultra thin pieces of tofu. No kidding! When I was stationed in Georgia, I frequented here ALL THE TIME. I made the 30-40 minute drive just to eat here lol. Honestly, the best viet restaurant in that location. I tried several and this one was the best. Great service and affordable, delicious food. It was usually the same people working and they always knew our order. I loved it. The server always was friendly and made conversation. If I wasn't in the mood for pho, my go-to order was always their grilled pork chop with rice, egg, shredded pork and veggies. We had been here before for eat in phö and it was fine, but we just had takeout and the order was incorrect. We ordered a spicy sa-te noodle bowl and received a tofu phö. I ordered spicy lemongrass tofu and that was ok. Very spicy!! And not much sauce. The chicken fried rice has onion peels in it and the spring roll had plastic inside. The sprouts were going bad. The pad Thai was made of pho noodles and not only did it not have your typical pad Thai seasoning, it barely had any seasoning at all! They gave the tiniest piece of lime that was too dry to squeeze barely any juice out of it. The shrimps tastes soggy like they grilled old shrimp. The dessert? Came here for lunch on a Sunday and the place had just started to get crowded. To start with, me and my friend shared the pork spring rolls, which were average. The peanut sauce it comes with wasn't the best. I got the chicken salad bowl for my entree, which was lacking flavor. The sauce it comes with wasn't flavorful either so I had pour the sauce from the spring rolls and a little bit of siracha in the bowl. My friend got the all in one pho, I have had better pho before. The broth was flavorful but there was not enough meat. We also got the taro bubble tea, which wasn't the best because the bubbles were very hard. I have tried their bubble tea before, it was good but it failed this time. The service was horrible, one guy serving all the table. He never came back to check on us after taking our order, no water refills. I had to go to the desk to order the bubble tea. You pay at the front desk, which is fine and quick.
