I think I have a huge obsession with Asian Box. I've been here three times within the last week and I have fallen in love with the garden box! The garden box is filled with extra tofu and brown rice and includes sprouts, carrots and extra greens, yum. The service is super fast and the owner has been very attentive! I wish the restaurant was a bit bigger as it gets crowded during lunch time and it can be difficult to find a spot to sit. I'm not from the Burlingame area so I hope to find an Asian Box in SF. read more

a vietnamese chipotle. best way to describe. this place is popping up everywhere in norcal and coming down south too. you can get a premade box or you can choose your own carb, protein, and sides. around 10-15$. very friendly workers. if you are allergic to something, they make your box separate from the others. they have on tap the vietnamese ice coffee and lemonade. food is not bad. its like fast food vietnamese basically. every ingredient should be local and fresh. a good size box for lunch or dinner. parking may be hard as its located in downtown burlingame. very small place, fits maybe 30 people but i think this is more of a grab and go type of place. read more

Since I became lactose intolerant, I've been eating more and more asian foods. While on my way down to South bay with my dogs, a friend of mine suggested grabbing lunch at Asian Box. They have a few seats outside and fall into the category of "healthy-ish" asian food. Asian box is actually not that asian by traditional standards. The whole layout reminds me of a chipotle for vietnamese food. It's somewhat similar to fresh roll in the city (without the rolls.) It's pretty nice for a quick lunch-time grab & go meal. A lot of business men stop by here as I've noticed on their lunch break. The food was decently, definitely overpriced but it wasn't bad. I had a really great experience! The cashier was super friendly and even as they were bringing out my food the staff was kind and attentive. When I was asking for a lid for my food, another customer was just tearing in to the employees about her food taking a while (have people heard about dinner rush), and they handled it so calmly and professionally. Ivory and "Chuck," I mean Hannah, are very friendly! Just yesterday Ivory actually said "Hi" outside the Apple store and it reminded me about this place on my walk down to get coffee at Peets! lol. Annddd everyone in my building has been asking if I tried this place yet..I work nearby in the Fox so it was a stone's throw to try. So today was my second try and due to dietary needs I usually cook for myself, so eating out is kinda limited. But this place is solid as any in Burlingame. I especially love how the vegetables are not overcooked. Good prep and the food comes out fast, friendly service...then its back to work for the rest of us that work on the ave. I give this place 4 stars for the quality of the food, although the service did not cut it for me. When we arrived we were the only ones there. First, they forgot to give my boyfriend his lemonade. I've had Asian Box in Mountain View many times -- it was near our work so it was our go-to for lunch. Since I work from home now, it felt like I wasn't going to fulfill this craving I've had for AB since I don't live near Mountain View. When they opened one up in Burlingame, I was excited and ordered delivery through DoorDash the first few times. However, I noticed my order would always have less veggies than I prefer and the ratio of meat to noodles was always pretty off. I thought it was just this location that skimped on the order, but I went there in person a few days ago and they were just as accommodating in person as they are in Mountain View (so I think the delivery person is the one to blame if I were to pinpoint it on someone). Anyways, I always customize my order - chicken with rice noodles, all the veggies including the egg + extra crispy onions, extra lime and sauces on the side (tamarind vinaigrette, no oil fish sauce and Asian street dust). I tend to mix all the sauces together cuz I'm indecisive like that.. and it works lol. The chicken is seasoned just right, noodles compliments it well (I'm sure rice would do the same) and the sauce gives the veggies the right amount of tang. My parents ordered with me in person and it was their first time trying it -- they loved it! They thought it covered everything in terms of protein, carbs and veggies. And if you're watching your macros, you can customize your order, which is always a good thing. So if you're looking for a faster, healthier alternative to what you usually get from some Asian restaurants, I would recommend going here! read more

TLDR: A solid 4 star rating. Great food, fast service, solid value for the money. Paleo/keto friendly! Had it delivered via doordash, so YMMV. Was concerned the portions were going to be small due to the pictures, but boy was I wrong. Double meat is a must if you like protein. The shrimp rolls were great too! Small request for the manager: let us pick multiple sauces when ordering on doordash. The Dust was good, but i wish I could had added a wet sauce as well. Lastly, it would be great to have clear distinctions on items that have cilantro, as my wife can't eat anything with it. Couldn't find anywhere on your website or doordash listing that the shrimp rolls came with it. As a person with celiac disease, this restaurant is a dream come true. I wish there were more like it that are completely gluten free. But that's not the only reason to eat here, the food is delicious. I think some people hear "gluten free" and think it's going to be lacking something, but in reality this kind of cuisine does not need gluten and shouldn't have it. The grain options (noodles, rice, spring roll wraps) are all rice based, as they should be. My boyfriend and one of my friends who is a very picky eater both like this place, and neither of them are on a GF diet. It is very much in the style of Chipotle- you choose a base, a protein, and then toppings. There are other things here too. I almost always get jasmine rice, tofu, and all the toppings with peanut sauce. Yesterday I tried one of their special boxes though, the Chicken Curry and it was outstanding. Great place for takeout. Please go here and keep restaurants like this in business for us with celiac disease! It makes life so much better to have a simple option where everything is OK to eat. read more

My husband had the tofu box and I had the shrimp and both were yummy. We had the sriracha sauce with the Asian dust. They definitely have a few teething troubles and it can get crowded on weekends. Limited seating but they're soon getting patio seating which would be great with spring around the corner. It's a nice little option for lunch. I also loved loved their Vietnamese coffee. I've been wanting to check this spot out since their signs were up before opening and finally had the chance to try for lunch. I came in around 12:45pm on a Saturday and it was pretty packed. I made my own bowl, half brown rice half noodles with chicken, peanuts, veggies, shallots, herbs, lime, bean sprouts and tamarind sauce on the side. The box was really good! Chicken was flavorful and tasty and I really liked their crispy shallots and tamarind sauce. I'm glad I got the sauce on the side bc I didn't really use too much of it because the box it's self was flavorful. I also got an iced tea which was good. I will definitely be back! read more

I like this place. Love the concept and have always enjoyed the food. Was a little put off today though. Placed my order online, it was ready when I got there to pick it up. Got home and one box was made correctly, the other was missing two items (noodles and one of the sauces). I called to let them know (complaining on yelp is not my first choice of communication of an issue). The gentlemen who answered didn't seem at all concerned or apologetic. He said he will ask his manager about how to rectify the issue and call me back. I asked if he needed my number he said no he had it (I assume from caller ID or that they could look it up on my online order). Got his name and waited for a call back. Didn't get one. :( I'm not expecting a free meal or a refund, I know times are tough for everyone. I got the ox box and it was pretty good but the minute I found the lime hidden under my veggies. The world of flavor was enlightened. Must use the lime to add a freshness to your box. First thing first, their Vietnamese iced coffee is AMAZING. I would go here just for their iced coffee and it's free refills! SO GOOOOOOOOD! The service is also really great. All the employees are super polite and caring which is a plus. The boxes, however, took kind of a long time. We ordered at 3:50pm and by 4:15 we still didn't get our food. We finally had to ask the waitress and then the food came out shortly thereafter. She did also give us a coupon for next time for a free box, which was awesome. I got a chicken salad box with the sauce on the side. The salad was pretty flavorful. The chicken on the other hand was really chewy and almost tastes as if it wasn't cooked all the way. I will start by saying it's a great idea and concept. I think the staff is friendly and dedicated to trying to make it a great experience for their guests. What I found bothersome was after entering the shop, I did not smell any food being cooked nor did I hear any food being cooked. I did not see any smoke or actions by staff that remotely looked like cooking. I was disappointed all the choices of meat were already marinated and sugar added. The sauces and marinades were different. If you wanted chicken for example the marinade and the sauce choices did not match. The marinades do not match any of sauces. The mix is kinda odd tasting. The real disappointment came in the box, the preset salad on the side, in the box was all wilted and dead from heat from sitting there, pre-made, waiting for a order to be placed in the box with it, it was gross. In summary, the food seems pre-cooked from somewhere then shoved in boxes to order. My idea of "Asian Street Food" is food that is fresh to order and cooked to order at that exact moment it's ordered and served piping hot. "Farm to Box". Means just that. Not drenched in sugar previously before ordered. Sugar is the unhealthiest ingredient one can consume. Ugh!!! I can't control me back, not a healthy choice! Neither my husband nor I are healthy OR outdoorsy -- but I'm gluten-intolerant and have PCOS, and we're both counting calories. So a high-protein, low-carb, low-cal diet is really great for me, and we don't always cook at home. Enter Asian Box. I know it sounds like the most Californian thing in the world -- paleo-friendly, mostly local, etc. -- but we're SO glad we found it, because we frequently find ourselves halfway through the week totally out of groceries. I love that they're so transparent about ingredients, because it makes it easy to use MyFitnessPal (or whatever tracking software you might use) to keep up with what you're eating. I usually have a double lime-chile shrimp veggie box. But I also really like Gracie's Grandma's Pho, since most pho is out of the question for me, and all I really want is bone broth with rice noodles (yum!!). The pickled veggies are awesome, and the caramel eggs can't be beat. Six-spice chicken is heaven. My husband has a particular affinity for the pork. We're yet to try one protein we dislike! I highly recommend Asian Box to anyone who is on a 30/30/30 diet (30% carbs, 30% protein, 30% fat) for endocrine or other autoimmune reasons. (I kept playing with my macros, and doubling your shrimp order is the way to go!) I lost 20 lbs in one month by replacing a couple of my weekly dinners with Asian Box, and I'm so grateful to y'all for helping me with that. We were mildly disappointed with the food here. We were expecting Asian "street food", which I guess could be interpreted in more ways than one. This was more like just boxed rice lunches. Quality was just OK, flavor was pretty good. But there's no way you can compare this to going to an Asian restaurant and getting a piping hot plate fresh off of the wok. This is more American style food than anything. The seating was cramped and uncomfortable. The restaurant looks so much smaller now than it did when it was Melt. Overall it's just OK. The one thing we probably should have returned was the $5.00 shrimp roll. Bad enough that it was exactly 1 x 4inch roll cut in half for the price. Worse that it was so old that it was hard as a rock and inedible. We threw it away. If the executive chef is Vietnamese, then I'm surprised that they wouldn't know how to properly store shrimp spring rolls to avoid from getting dried out. Pretty good! We were looking for a quick, easy and healthy bite after a long day. This hit the spot. Food quality was amazing. Fresh, tasteful but simple. Sure it's a brand new spot, but they are hustling in here. Including one of the owners, Chad--a multitasking guru. The first thing that jumps out as you as you enter Asian Box is the amazing service. You walk into the restaurant to immediately hear about 5 hellos from the workers, who are all incredibly happy, friendly, and helpful. They have quite a variety of boxes, from shrimp, pork, veggie and beef, with creative themes countries like Vietnam, India, and Hawaii.--There really is something for everyone here. The best part is everything is from $9-14, the portions are huge, and the ingredients are fresh. I ordered the curry box for lunch, and my favorite part was definitely the pork--It was very juicy and well-cooked. Overall, I would say Asian Box is my new go-to lunch (and yes, probably even dinner) spot in the Marina! --Somewhere I'll likely go once a week--I want to try them all! read more

Whenever I'm housesitting in San Mateo which is often, my "go to" casual restaurant is Asian Box. I love been greeted warmly when I approach the register to order. Maybe some people think it's corny to hear "welcome to Asian Box," but I don't because I think the staff really means it. I can get a healthy meal, great portion and good selection and value. I like knowing from where the food is sourced. I'm there so often that one of the employee -- Armando (I think he's the manager) gives me a special welcome. He always seems genuinely interested in how I'm doing. I appreciate the smooth running operation, and I suspect that even without a manager present, the staff knows what they're doing. To be completely honest, I am always skeptical about places that serve "Asian food" so the name and varied menu put me off. Asian Box proved me wrong. My girlfriend was more curious and so we visited on Sunday. I ordered the caramel catfish without expecting too much and she had a beef dish. I thought this would be a boring "Asian brown sauce" fish, but instead had a wonderfully tender/flavorful dish. My family is from Southeast Asia so the familiar blend of lemon grass and ginger hit my tastebuds in a way I usually experience when I visit my parents. The beef dish tasted much like Vietnamese dishes we've had before but with very fresh vegetables accompanying it. The prices were surprisingly cheap given the quality of this food and I expect to come again. The only negative mark I could give was to the slow service. We did have to wait a good amount to receive our food, although I imagine this was because most of their customers do not normally order the catfish. Not a terrible problem but something to watch out for since the restaurant wasn't too full. Looking forward to having that catfish again. read more

This place is YUM!!!!!!! I had the Asian salad box with the beef, and it was LOVELY!!!! The flavors came together wonderfully and the beef was flavorful. Historically I have not been a fan of Asian fusion food, but this place is awesome. Food is good, portion size is wonderful, and priced at a great value (relative to downtown Burlingame). So glad Asian Box has opened up on Burlingame. It's a great option for a fast, healthy, and affordable meal. Also, the staff is very friendly and happy to answer questions. How it works is simple. Pick your base, protein, toppings, and a sauce, or you can choose an already created box. Last time I went, I got brown rice, chicken, all toppings except scallion oil and jalapeños, and tamarind vinaigrette. The vinaigrette was really great. It was a little sweet but balanced out the more savory flavors of the box well. The chicken was well seasoned but I'm not a huge fan of chicken thighs so next time I'll go with the shrimp or beef. I've gotten the beef before and enjoyed it a lot. I'd say go for as many toppings as you can. All the different textures and flavors make for a delicious box.
