    Horrible tasting food

Time to box this place up and put it on the shelf. I'm really struggling with Asian Box because it had so much potential. I like the IDEA of their menu, it's just that their food isn't good, and the service here is lacking. I've been here multiple times trying to support their business and everything from their very dry sitting out and not fresh since it's been sitting out for hours "fresh" rolls with peanut sauce is always dissapointing. Just think about the rice paper drying and shriveling up until it becomes hard and chewy. That was my last visit with their dry salmon rice bowl. This time was the incredibly awful chicken pho. The watery broth, gross dry chicken with no flavor and noodles that you can get via a package at ANY Asian market and here you go for like $20 after tax and tip. Yup, this place will not be in business long if this continues.

Hmm.... Hmm.....,., I've been here five years ago, and it was good. Even taking a look at the pictures from five to eight years ago, it looked much better. But I just returned recently because I remembered that it was really good. But I was a bit disappointed. Perhaps I tried the wrong item, and the seasonal Fall special item looked good. But what we got was a bit small and underwhelming. The pickled vegetables were really good and were the best part!

    Really delicious

It's really delicious and the staff is friendly, I recommend it , I leave you the photo of the workout, it's my favorite box The atmosphere is comfortable and pleasant

This restaurant was surprisingly good and the service was amazing! My boyfriend and I decided to eat here after trying a generous sample of their Vietnamese Hot Chicken. The sample came with a generous amount of chicken and rice. Although, we opted to try different entrees for lunch, the Vietnamese Hot Chicken was hot and spicy, fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. What I like about their menu is not only do they offer meat options, the menu is also vegetarian/vegan friendly. You can choose to create your own box or choose from one of the many great signature boxes. Our lunch consisted of: * Salmon Salad - came with roasted lemongrass salmon, salad greens, pickled veggies, herbs, and a delicious ginger soy vinaigrette. This order took a little longer because of the salmon being cooked, I didn't mind the wait at all. This salad was delicious! It paired nicely with the dressing and picked veggies. * The Garden Box - came with organic tofu, yellow curry, broccoli, pickled veggies and brown rice. My boyfriend loved this dish! It was light and flavorful, and just enough protein from the tofu! * Lemonade and a Rice Lager which were both refreshing! * Shrimp Fresh Roll (not pictured) - it was light, had a nice bite from the veggies and came with a delicious peanut sauce on the side. The restaurant is moderately quiet with plenty of indoor seating, and is overall clean! Hospitality was top tier! We will definitely be back again and looking forward to trying more dishes!

Completely gluten free? YES!! This celiac girl is so happy! Menu changes a little seasonally, but there are some items that remain on the menu. Everything I've had has been great (and safe). I've been here and one other location - this is the closest to home - I wish there was one closer to Pacifica. It's great that they also have an airport (SFO) location for gluten free travelers.

    Banh mi

    - one of the worst banh mi I've had. Bread was very oddly dry; I could barely swallow it. Meat was chewy. Much better banh mi next door at Cherimoya, or even better at The Original Royal Donut (yes, banh mi at donut place). I believe the normal box meals are much better + staff was friendly + Location is good and has outdoor seating

First timer and it wasn't bad. The food was fresh. Portion size is very good. Lots of bean sprouts but My kids didn't mind. The sauces were delicious. I love that there's an option for everyone. It is located in downtown Burlingame so parking can be a hit or miss depending on the time of day. It's never too busy inside the restaurant but don't let that fool you, the food is good.

salmon salad and Vietnamese iced coffee
    Angel L.

The salmon salad was okay. The sauce was savory, tangy, and sweet, which paired nicely with the fish. The Vietnamese iced coffee had a strange rubbing alcohol taste, and there were some alarming hard chunks (beans?) at the bottom of the cup.

The service was wonderful from the get-go - they were extremely friendly and attentive the entire time, and made us feel very welcomed. And though we arrived on the slightly later side, they never made us feel rushed. The interior of Rin-Tei is minimalist and cozy, and had a very familial feel, as virtually all the tables are connected by a long bench along the wall. It contributes to the inviting, inclusive atmosphere of the restaurant, making it a great spot to meet up with friends. We ordered a variety of dishes which we all split, including: the garlic shrimp, the Vietnamese papaya salad, cold sesame TanTan pho, keema curry, calamari, sizzling wagyu loin, and a couple drinks. And everything we had was excellent! My personal favorites were the sizzling wagyu loin, which was perfectly cooked and abundantly juicy and flavorful, and the warm, tasty keema curry. I'd also never had cold pho before, but I ended up being very pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it! I don't think you can go wrong with anything here. I loved my experience at Rin-Tei, and will no doubt be back soon!

Just a heads up, they only accept phone reservations for groups of 6 or more. If you have fewer than 6 people, it's walk-in only. Ordering is done through a QR code where you can add items to your cart. I actually liked that multiple people in the party can scan the QR code and add items themselves instead of having one designated person order everything or having separate carts that no one else can see. The only downside is that it can be easy to accidentally over-order if someone adds something you were already planning to get, so I recommend reviewing your cart carefully before submitting. Since this is a skewer restaurant, you probably won't get super full from just ordering skewers, so I recommend getting some main dishes as well if you want to feel satisfied without spending too much on just meat. Service was pretty quick and the skewers came out in a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately, they were sold out of a few items we wanted to try, which was a little disappointing, but maybe that's a sign I'll have to come back again. Everything we did try was delicious. The skewers were well-seasoned, and they also have extra seasoning available at the table. They allowed us to bring a birthday cake, stored it in their freezer for us, and provided plastic forks and paper plates, which was a nice touch. Our waitress was also very friendly and attentive throughout the meal. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and would consider coming back when I'm in the mood for skewers. I don't think it's somewhere I'd crave all the time, but I have no major complaints. Parking can be a little difficult, but luckily we were able to find public parking at the garage on Flores Street.

Fast forward, it's Mom's Day, kids having meals on their own as parents, our celebration is to go somewhere good to have a meal, no lines (didn't make a res), kinda spontaneous. Hanabi fits the bill. Ordered the pork belly ramen ( looked really good at a neighboring table) and the Mayu-ramen, spicy, with kfc chicken (not what you think, means something else), both with a miso base. Wait was reasonable, time to get a table was 30 seconds tops. Other nights it's been jammed but not Mom's Day, just quiet, enjoyable. Both meals were spectacularly reasonable, serving what you'd want, with enough of everything to want to dive in because you were pretty assured you were going to be satisfied. Not fru-fru or bougie, ingredients that make the dish memorable yet feel you are knowledgeable and appreciated. Pork belly was soft, fatty yet lean, cooked well enough to be tender, yet with a little chew (not disintegrating like some bellies), lots of noodles al dente so you appreciate the noodle was not a mushy mass in the bowl like some places. The Mayu came with 3 drumsticks burning hot from the fryer but oh so good because it's served in a separate dish so it doesn't get soggy. The spicy is good enough to keep things interesting with losing its identity (unlike a lot of places). And they give plenty of ramen because it's that good. We keep coming back because they serve no-frills, you-can-bank-on-it ramen that is satisfying, consistent; staff is friendly without being overbearing. It's not a big place, tables and a counter, but they know how to keep diners happy and coming back for more. What more can you ask for? Thanks, Hanabi, will definitely be back!

The first thing I noticed was that there was really not many pieces of ribs, maybe they made the ribs portion smaller to make room for the lap cheung I ordered? Strangely, although this place seems to share a kitchen with Social Eatery, the rice was cooked much more poorly here, which is obviously a shame for a place specializing in clay pot rice. It seems like the rice had too much water added, so it was a bit overcooked - you couldn't feel the "single grain" mouthfeel texture you should expect from well-cooked, high quality rice. Since the rice was too mushy, it obviously didn't crisp well either. Though it had some small amount of bits stuck to the edges of the metal (not clay!) pot, it was definitely not the super crispy, well browned "faan ziu" I expect, and not at all like the pictures featured in some earlier reviews of this restaurant.
