    The Workout

Got lucky and came here when there was a $10 deal for The Workout box. Thought this was a solid price for the food portions, but at normal price of $15.50 it feels a bit pricy. I liked the five spice chicken and pickled veggies, but thought the tamarind and spicy sauces were tad too sweet for my liking (just personal preference). Our server was extremely kind and friendly when taking our order and helped us understand the menu options. There's a small amount of seating available inside, as well as some outdoor spaces throughout the Pruneyard.

One of my favorite take Asian take out place. I got bah mi with salmon and workout today. Normally I get shrimps bah mi but the salmon was so much better. It was too good I forgot to take pictures. Chicken workout was good too. I think chicken used to be cubed but this time it was sliced too thin. Still the flavor of chicken was good. Wire time was about 10 minutes but I ordered online so I didn't have to wait too long to pick it up at the store. It can be pretty busy during the lunch time so recommend to order before hand.

Created my own salad with chicken and steak with the works minus the peanuts and dressed it with the tamarind dressing. The steak was cooked very well it was nice and tender l and the chicken reminded me of chicken pho. Loved the textures from all the veggies and jalapeños provided crunch and spice. Also had a Thai tea that was pretty good very sweet and creamy. Service was fast and helpful. The location is small but the inside is nice and clean and there is area outside to eat as well.

    No Jalapeños means NO JALAPEÑOS!!

AI, RUDENESS & DISRESPECTFUL SERVICE and HALF BROWN & HALF WHITE RICE COOKED TOGETHER HAVE TAKEN OVER AT THIS POPULAR LOCATION that I have been going to for years! Instead of an actual person taking time to take your order, two (2) Autobots input your order. The gal with the highly visible neck tattoos who's too busy behind the counter making cookies to help you, then sighs loudly & audibly when you ask her a question about said Autobot who is quick to replace her job. HER TONE RUDE AND DEMEANING then shuffles over & argues rudely said autobot fails to accept my order. I ordered my food with NO JALAPEÑOS though there they were!

Asian box has different locations this is the one at the Pruneyard. I like the deal that you get 4 boxes, 4 spring rolls and 4 cookies for around $56 with tax. You can also sub salad for rice to be extra healthy. The chicken is really good you can tell it's grilled. I've also gotten catering at my work and that's good too. This location has lots of parking and not much wait. The staff were very nice. Forgot to take a picture before I started eating but I always have a lot of leftovers because it's good portions of chicken or pork.

We ordered via Door Dash so service and ambiance were not a thing. We ordered a Workout Box, build your own with steak and a shrimp spring roll. The boxes were good, but the shrimp spring roll was honestly a joke. For $6.45 for one shrimp spring roll they only served two shrimp that were sliced in half to make it look like there were four shrimp.

Whoever is in charge of their menu should really rethink their profession. I get that you want to keep the menu fresh so you re-utilize several ingredients. But whoever thought of sandwiching cubed steak within a hard stale baguette and calling it a banh mi needs to get off the couch and do some actual research. I'm not calling for a superior banh mi from a fast casual restaurant but someone needs to do better instead of slapping "banh mi" on this disaster and calling it a day. I've had their box entrees plenty of times: it's fast, it's fresh. It's not for all occasions but when it calls for it, the box entrees can quickly hit the spot. I was going on a picnic so I wanted something handy which led me to discovering Asian Box offers a banh mi. It takes a lot to get a banh mi wrong. It usually consists of a lot of components so if one thing goes wrong, there's a lot of redeeming qualities of the other ingredients. I haven't written a review in years but I just had to after eating this absolute culinary disappointment. The cubed meat is from their entrees but it was SLATHERED with mayo. It sounds like it may be just a matter of personal preference but the bread was absolutely rock hard. The crust felt like I could hammer something with it and the bread texture was akin to a dense foam. Now I'm wondering if the team had to use that amount of mayo to counter-act the harshness of the bread. Furthermore, there were little to no fixings. Where is the veg? Where is the refreshing and crunchy veggies?! This is just a cubed meat sandwich. Did I mention disappointing? I just can't believe it. It's inevitable that prices are getting higher and places are trying to take some shortcuts to keep prices low. But wtf Asian Box, your prices are still relatively high and you're taking some super shortcut and serving up garbage like this.

Ive eaten at several locations and this is easily the most consistent. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it's DELICIOUS and always full of fresh flavor and unique flavor. I default to the double chicken box with hot box it and sriracha sauce. My chicken and rice go to in Campbell.

Chef's Salad with steak, Miss Jones, two kids meal
    Jo C.

I placed an online order and received a text when it was ready. I got the 2 box family with cookies: Chef's salad with steak, Miss Jones with lemongrass pork, two kids meals salad and noodle, chocolate chip cookies and two apple juices. The portions were decent for all. Good amount of vegetables which is what I wanted. The steak was medium and cut thinly. I wasn't a fan of the kid's meal sauce, the Chef's salad sauce was also a bit salty. The rice noodles were also cooked well, it wasn't sticky or gummy and still retained its chewiness. The chocolate chip cookies were thin but surprisingly chewy. I think their 2 box family is great for meal preps. Their website asked if utensils were needed for each of the items ordered but I received none. The inside of the restaurant is small and the staff didn't acknowledge me. I found the wall of online/mobile orders and grabbed my stuff.

Service was great! Food was yummmmmmm! We took the garden box and the Vietnamese hot chicken box. Both were very filling & flavorful. Hole in the wall kind of street food restaurant ambience, decent pricing for the serving sizes. Shawn was a wonderful host! Thanks.

I was curious with this restaurant because they serve meals mixed with Asian ingredients. You can order signature meals or customize your meal. Usually I order a signature one since it's my first time here. I didn't want to dine here because traffic will get heavy later on when trying to go back home. I wanted to use cash to pay for my food, but they don't have dollar bills anymore. Kinda disappointed in that, and it goes to show that contactless payments are relevant and that we are diving in an era of technology. The food is tasty though. However, it's quite overpriced given how small the portion sizes are. I am a fan of normal-sized meals since they contain less calories, but kinda tune the price down.

If you're looking for great customer service when dining, head over to Asian box and meet Sean. I was instantly greeted with a warm and friendly face upon my arrival. Sun was very kind and professional and made me feel welcome at this restaurant. I ordered the Vietnam Surf and it came out very quickly. This restaurant is very clean and there's plenty of room to sit inside or outside. There are great options on the menu, especially the creator your own box which I find really impressive. I really appreciate great customer service especially from people like Sean and that alone really made my day. Thank you very much!

I was on a father/daughter date night to catch the San Jose Symphony and my daughter recommended the Asian Box for dinner before we hit up the performance. This establishment is one of her favorite places to eat. Wow! The Asian Box didn't disappoint me. My daughter had the curry chicken and I had the Vietnamese hot chicken. We sample one another's plate and both were delicious. The person who took our orders warned me that the Vietnamese hot chicken is very spicy and yes it was! Fortunately I have the genes for spicy food. I bookmarked this establishment for future visits the next time I'm in Campbell.

Just never got around to working a review before. Went early on a Saturday evening recently and was surprised to not have to wait. We split a Bibb lettuce salad that was simple, refreshing and perfect. A tiny pea fritter was the very definition of a small bite, and while it wasn't what I expected, it was crisp and tender. Grilled artichoke was one of the best I have ever had. (Just wish they had been explicit on the menu that it was a half a grilled artichoke). Cocktails were up to their usual high standard -- rye Manhattan for the BF and clarified milk punch for me. I don't get out much these days and I rarely drink alcohol, but is $20 a lot for a cocktail? Or is that normal now? They were great though. BF got the ribeye with morels, which was perfectly cooked and unbelievably tender. I had the burger, which was more exciting than it sounds, dressed with a wild combo of veggies, cheese and bacon while still managing to be harmonious and fresh tasting. Side of fries were crisp and tasty, though not as perfectly hot as I would ideally wish. Because the burger was late coming out, or server (Bernardo I think?) comped us an amazing little dish of vanilla soft serve ice cream with olive oil and sea salt, along with the butterscotch pudding that we ordered. The pudding didn't have the strong butterscotch flavor that I hoped for, but the vanilla ice cream stole the dessert show. OCK isn't a place I can afford often, but I still really like it. I appreciate the creativity of the dishes, the quality ingredients, and the bar. And the old-school shopping center vibe of the Pruneyard is low key festive and garden-like. The interior of the restaurant is kind of standard-industrial modern, but nicely so. Oh, and their glassware is super nice.

Additionally the patio space at night is unmatched in terms of a cozy and perfectly intimate dinner experience. Our server Katherine N was outright hostile and messed up our order on top of having a really rude and unprofessional attitude. Bummer. This used to be the best dining in Pruneyard but its sister restaurant Be.steak.a, as well as Luna and Marafuku Ramen make OCK's bib gourmand look more than undeserved. The rest of the wait staff is lovely, and we look forward to some improvements in the menu intentionality and execution as well as said outlier staff member, as this restaurant has been a favorite in our family for over five years.

For instance, even though the menu stated that it offered happy hour on the weekend, the waiter, said no, there's definitely no happy hour today and we were there at 3pm. (Online it shows that happy hour is indeed offered on the weekdays and weekends, I should mention.) I feel like he should've at least walked over and confirmed with his manager because the manager was there onsite. There was also no price listed for the Pacific Caesar salad. So the server finally got back to me with the price. My friend said that she had just gotten it with chicken. The server said that adding chicken or salmon would be $8 for either one. However, also incorrect! Online it shows that chicken is only $6. (hello, fish is always more expensive, especially salmon.) I didn't trust what he said, so I decided to skip that dish. My friend had said it was really good too. Oh well. I also didn't appreciate how when I went to pay the 22% was also marked as a default tip, so I would assume he ticked that. This is the first time that I've had service that has been subpar. Almost every other time the servers have been outstanding. I felt like the waiter should've double checked a few things have not been lazy about it. A few months ago, my friend and I also went and they had a different menu. It was three for $16 or something. He also said he didn't have that today either. And he claimed there was no such menu. So maybe they got rid of it. However, it is still listed online? My friend had got the tacos before and she loved those so I'm posting that picture here as well but this was the prior visit in the spring.

Some items were fine, but nothing really stood out enough to make me feel like I'd confidently reorder them. Given the prices and very small tapas-style portion sizes, it just didn't feel worth the gamble overall. Our Lila Latte (ube latte) didn't taste like ube at all. When we arrived and asked about seating, we were told they weren't taking walk-ins. So we went online, made a reservation for 10 minutes later lol. And then got seated right away with that reservation. Their seating system could use a bit of streamlining. Overall, cute setting and decent vibes, but between the price, portion sizes, and inconsistency, I probably wouldn't rush back unless I knew exactly what to order and could guarantee outdoor seating. I'll admit, the word liver immediately made me hesitant, and if they hadn't told me what it was, I probably would've been less nervous trying it. But I'm really glad I did because it was incredibly buttery, smooth, and rich. It almost melts in your mouth, and I honestly think it would pair perfectly with a bowl of steamed rice. We also ordered the Hiyayakko (cold tofu with ginger & scallions), which was a really refreshing starter. The tofu was silky smooth and delicate, and the ginger, scallions, and soy-based seasoning added just enough flavor without taking away from the freshness of the tofu. It was simple, but really well done. We also ordered the Salmon Mayo Yaki Onigiri. While it was good, I think this is the one dish I'd probably skip next time. The crispy grilled rice ball itself was delicious, but there just wasn't enough salmon mayo on top. It felt like I only got a tiny spoonful, so once that was gone, it was mostly just rice. Since my family couldn't decide, we ended up ordering all three clay pots: the Sake Oyako Meshi (grilled salmon & salmon roe), Unagi Meshi (BBQ freshwater eel), and Tori Soboro Meshi (braised ground chicken). Out of all of them, the Unagi Meshi was easily my favorite. The eel was tender, slightly smoky, and coated in a sweet-savory glaze that soaked into the rice underneath, making every bite incredibly satisfying. The clay pots also gave the rice a nice crispy layer on the bottom, which added even more texture. We also shared two of their signature pizzas: the Mentai Kinoko and the Nasu Curry. I wasn't expecting much since it's pizza at a Japanese restaurant, but they were honestly so good. The crust was paper-thin, crispy, and light, so it didn't leave you feeling heavy afterward. The Mentai Kinoko had a great balance of spicy cod roe, snow crab, mushrooms, bacon, and cheese, while the Nasu Curry had a rich curry flavor that paired surprisingly well with the eggplant and cheese. Both were huge hits with my family. The restaurant itself has a warm, traditional Japanese atmosphere that makes it feel cozy and inviting. The server was incredibly friendly and helpful, taking the time to explain the menu and recommend dishes when we couldn't decide what to order. Their recommendations definitely did not disappoint. My whole family left happy, and it's one of those restaurants where I already know I'll be coming back to try even more of the menu.

Food: Wafa Cesar salad 3/5 pretty standard salad…read more Sirloin steak 5/5 delicious with the fried garlic Kamo yuzu Duck 3.5/5 the duck was cooked very well, but I didn't like the salsa that went with it as much as I thought i would. The yuzu makes it more of a sour sauce than sweet. Nasu Buta Hasamiage fried eggplant in broth 4/5 this was perfectly fried and am interesting dish served in a light broth. Unagi claypot 4/5 it was delicious, but I wish they included a little more Unagi. The rice on the bottom was crispy and all the flavors were well blended. Green tea creme brulee 5/5 well balanced flavors, maybe could use a little more green tea flavor, the vanilla over powered it. But it was still very delicious. Service: 90 minutes of dining time, the menu is large so it took time to decide what to order and they don't have paper menus anymore which is a little hard to review the small font on the phone. I think they should go back to providing at least 1-2 real menus per table. It was very warm in the restaurant even though they said the AC was on. The food came out relatively fast, but there were some pauses between dishes. The claypot rice took the longest and I was almost full by the time it arrived. Ambiance: casual restaurant, authentic Japanese style where you have to remove your shoes and sit on mats. The restaurant filled up quickly by 7pm. We had a reservation for 6:15pm.

Starting with the drinks: -lychee martini so fresh and tasty -and their signature lychee drink, tastes like bubble gum and is so amazing Veggie rolls are amazing! The care that they put into making them is so obvious. My partner loved his rolls (non-veg) Matcha tiramisu was very unique, but good. Vibes are fun inside too, very lively. So many vegetarian options and a little patio!

The former because it seemed like they might be a bit pricey for what they are; the latter because most of my friends that have tried them have spoken relatively highly about what they've had. As such, while they've been on my list of bookmarks for a quite a while, I never felt very compelled to try them either. And yet, somehow, we've managed to make our way to the one here in San Jose multiple times now! Sitting right in the heart of Santana Row, this particular Ozumo makes for a great spot to grab lunch during a day of shopping, happy hour after a long day at work, or a Friday or Saturday date night. Unlike your neighborhood Japanese restaurant and their array of bento box combos, the menu here is more like an izakaya's, with a much more varied array of options to offer - small bites, ramen/udon, entrees, nigiri, sashimi, and a mix of classic and house sushi rolls. In addition, they also have an interesting cocktail menu, featuring a lot of staple drinks that are infused with Asian flavors/ingredients. -- HAZAKURA - Umami Gin, Sake, Luxardo, Sakura Vermouth, Orgeat Cherry Blossom Elixir, Lemon, and Greek Yogurt Not only did this sound really unique (first time seeing a cocktail with Greek yogurt in it), but it was pretty tasty, too! I liked how the overall profile was light, semi-floral, and super easy to drink. Pretty solid! -- TOKYO VICE - Arette Blanco Tequila, Grapefruit, Ume, Fresno, Lime, and Togarashi This felt pretty true to a spicy paloma, as the Asian elements were subtle, and tasted pretty good. It was hard to separate the ume from the grapefruit, but I liked their combined tartness and the spice from the Fresno chilies and togarashi. -- HANABI - Sliced Hamachi & Avocado, Shredded Daikon, Leeks, and Warm Ginger-Chili Ponzu All in all, this was pretty solid. The hamachi was flavorful and I liked how every piece had ikura on it. The avocado was a little firm, but it still complemented the fish well, as did the ginger-chili ponzu sauce. -- KYUSHU KARAAGE - Japanese Style Fried Chicken with Red Yuzu Kosho Aioli While I certainly wish the portion had been larger, the taste of this was great. Each piece was surprisingly big, the batter was crispy, and the chicken itself was quite juicy. -- BROCCOLINI - Grilled Broccolini with Sweet Onion Sauce and Sesame Seeds Ehh...I wasn't a fan of this one. This was described as grilled, but it didn't taste that way. Rather, it felt like it was sauteed and overcooked at that. By no means terrible, but I wouldn't get this again. -- KINOKO - Roasted Enoki, Hon Shimeji, and Oyster Mushrooms with Garlic Tamari and Chives Aside from how the enoki mushrooms felt a little overcooked and stringy, this dish was pretty good! Loved how the mushrooms has a slightly earthy taste and how the garlic tamari added a nice umami. -- AGEDASHI TOFU - Crispy Silken Tofu with Kabocha Squash and Shiitake Dashi This was great! The tofu was silky and I liked how the batter didn't fall apart nor get gummy. The kabocha was good too, but the highlight for me was the shiitake dashi, which I wish every agedashi tofu dish had. -- SAKE YUAN YAKI - Grilled Salmon with Citrus Soy Glaze & Yuzu Togarashi Maybe it's just because I had a bad one just a few nights before, but I liked this one! The edges had a nice char, the salmon was super moist, and I liked how the glaze had a touch of sweetness and acidity. -- HAMACHI MANGO HAND ROLL with Soy Paper It was a little surprising to see this was left unwrapped, but this was no less delicious! The slices of mango weren't super juicy, but they were fresh, the rice was well cooked, and the hamachi was terrific! Across each of the visits we've made here, the service has been pretty good. Every server we've had has been welcoming and attentive (yet not overbearing). What's more, orders typically seem to come out relatively fast regardless of how busy the place is. As much as I enjoyed the vast majority of what we've tried, though, I do wish that the portion sizes had been larger, particularly the Hanabi, Karaage, and Agedashi Tofu. That being said, it was hardly shocking to see given how Ozumo is nicer than your average Japanese restaurant (and it's Santana Row of all places). In any case, it wouldn't stop me from coming back, despite how there are so many other restaurants nearby that I still want to check out. Or, at the very least, finally visit their original spot in SF to try their sushi offerings! All in all, THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded up.
